After being accosted by a vampire while trying to get the book, Carl had run off to the other side of the Island. He did not leave because he wanted to see what happened to Garrit and Luther. He waited for about half an hour, and when he thought that his son and the others might have now left, he went in search of his two accomplices. By that time, they had gained consciousness and control of themselves and were looking for him. When the three of them meet, they share the stories of what happened to each of them in detail. Evarius is nervous about this meeting because if she has completed the book, he has no idea what she might or might not have understood.
