Chapter 147: Seeing The Dead

I must be dreaming. Maybe I'm trapped in a trance. Scarlett Burns died two years ago. It's enough time to move on from the past, but this brings everything back like a crashing sea wave. This is impossible. She's impossible.

"Who are you?"

She shakes her head silently. I'm confused. It's like she can't speak. For a moment, she appears like a blank book. To my greatest surprise, it stays that way. She doesn't look like she remembers a damned thing about us.

"Scarlett, if this is you... and you are playing some sick joke. End it now."

I study her clothes. She also appears homeless. Her skirt doesn't hide much of her legs, but it's rumpled and has holes at its hem. The jacket she has on tells the same situation.

I reach for her, but she steps back. Fear flashes in her eyes. She's in a dark alley with a stranger who doesn't seem to be relenting from his intention to keep her here.
