Zyrielle's POV.

Rain's Residence.

"Do you want something else?" Rain inquired as soon as I pushed the bowl of chips away.

"Yeah..." I drawled, yet racked my brain coming up with nothing in particular.

"Oh... Is this exactly what I think this is?" I asked him as soon as the door opened. The aroma of chicken soup wafted into my nostrils, tickling me and causing me to become alert.

"You like?"

"Yeah, I do." I grinned in anticipation.

We hadn't still spoken after the doctor left today and I waited for us to have a discussion. "I knew you would. I would have given up had you also rejected this." He admitted.

I appreciated his honesty because I knew that I was stressing the hell out of him but it wasn't intentional anyway. It was just something that kept rising despite me trying my best to be free from it. "You have done a lot. How do I repay you?"

His eyebrows were the only thing that signified his attention. "I would prefer in kind." He wiggled his brows and I rolled my eyes. He wa

Zyrielle's POV. "Best shape?" I inquired after he ended the call. I could pick up from what they were saying that there was a problem which probably needed my intervention but they feared that I might not be able to handle it because of a perceived weakness. "I received an information from Mandy informing me that there's a rumor circulating that you sold thirty percent of the company. I know it's a lie but they will expect you to come out to defend yourself probably." Rain informed. "Are you serious?" I asked him. This was strange to me. How Lucas came up with these lies was beyond me?" I don't think the public knows that, because the company is currently undergoing an upheaval which I'm the mastermind. I've been buying shares indiscriminately, so all the partners are beginning to come to companies with my endorsement." He expatiated."I don't understand what's happening. Is my company going under?" "Something like that. Whenever there is a massive buyout, all companies begin to

Zyrielle's POV. "That was beautiful! Who would have thought?" Rain commented as soon as Mel walked out. A grin appeared on my face at the way he was acting so giddy. "you're too happy." He grinned, "Now she would know better than to mess with you. I'm so excited, I could kiss you." He winked. The smile wiped off from my face as I stared at him. If he realized that something was wrong, he didn't say a word because instead he continued humming and walked to his dressing table to spritz some cologne. I sneezed the instant I smelt it. "Hey... Pregnant lady over here." I snapped. "Oh, I'm sorry," He replied with remorse appearing on his face. "Do you want to take a seat?" "Nah, I'm fine. Pregnant, not sick." I warned him to stop acting as though I was just someone who was going to die just from being pregnant."So, are we going to talk about what the doctor suggested?" He began and I sighed. With Rain, there was no breathing space. This man was thorough in his approach. No wonder he

Zyrielle's POV. "I've been waiting for you all day." I mumbled as soon as he walked in at the strike of midnight. Watching him push some hair away from his face, I made a mental note to remind him to get a trim soon. "You look tired." "Yeah... Had a long meeting today. I need to take a shower." He answered abruptly and headed into the shower. This was unlike him. I didn't want to complain because after witnessing firsthand how his meetings could go, and that was only the preliminary stage, I knew that it was enough for him to trudge in.I had no right to accuse him of infidelity when we both knew the terms and conditions of the marriage. We were more like flatmates than real couples and I was more to blame for that. "Do you need anything?!" I yelled."No. Please tell Meg that I'm not hungry," he responded before shutting the shower door. Okay?... Something was going on but he was refusing to talk about it. This was weird anyway but I was intrigued. By the time he came out of the

Zyrielle’s POV“Aargh!” I yelled, pretending to lose my footing naturally instead of as a consequence of my eavesdropping. I blinked back the tears that threatened to fall out of my eyes as soon as the light appeared. “Are you hurt?” Freya asked me, but I knew she was only pretending to be concerned. I shook my head and attempted to rise. “Wait, I will help you.” She said, but I knew it was all a lie. She was probably happy about my fall. I flenched as soon as she came closer before moving away from her. Her eyes widened in shock at my movement, but I didn't care one bit. It was just one of those things that happened whenever I was unsure about a person. “Are you sure that everything is fine, ma'am? " she inquired. I picked myself up refusing to allow her to touch my body because I know the implication. She didn't like me and made it clear. I would be a fool to act like she wanted the best for me. “This is very weird. I would never expect that you would act this way.” She said,

Rain's POV. I didn't bother to listen to her, instead I kept on laughing. "Darling you are jealous that's why you even ask that in the first place. I mean it's okay for anyone to be jealous. It shows that we have something real going on and that it is going to progress somewhere sooner or later." I answered. She wrinkled her nose at my confidence because this didn't even make any sense to me. "You are only trying to draw out conclusions that would fit what you have in mind." She answered in a nonchalant tone but I wasn't put off because I knew that we were heading somewhere definite. On the other hand I think I enjoyed the chase. She was stubborn but I wouldn't have it any other way. "Hi Mandy, tell me what is happening over there." I tapped my Bluetooth device connecting straight to the office. There was a sound of shuffling of papers in the background and I wondered where she was because I expected everyone to have gone home. "Oh sir, I just received an email from Gray industri

Chapter 41. Zyrielle's POV. I tapped my feet on the ground impatiently as I continued waiting up for Rain to return from his meeting. He had promised that he wasn't going to stay long but now my mind was beginning to go haywire. A part of me reminded myself not to be gullible the second time. How would someone say that he had a meeting at such an odd hour and I believed hook, line and sinker in the first place. That showed my level of trust in a person and how it was backfiring on me. This was the same thing that Lucas did when he began to cheat on me with Cheryl. I slinked the glass door open and walked out to receive some fresh air at the balcony. I had a lot of things to think of instead of thinking of a man who probably had a lot going for him and was only stringing me along. His car drove into the compound with horns blaring. My heart surged for joy as I kept looking at him. Something was changing which I didn't want to keep on happening. If he continued to be this n

Zyrielle's POV.A gust of wind blew, moving my shirt up and I smiled. This was exactly what Rain was talking about and I saw him smiling stylishly which made my smile widen. "I think this is my cue to come in." I said. A smile was earned in return. Who would imagine that Rain would be so calm? Sometimes I felt like I needed a kind of disruption from him so I could say, ‘I said so.’ This could be post stronger, this could be post trauma talking but I guess he wasn't into that sort of thing which was quite commendable if I would be honest."I need some hot chocolate, do you care for some?" He inquired and I wrinkled my nose. I knew what he was trying to do. If he couldn't get me to admit that I wanted something, he could make one for himself and pass it off to me, thus having a win-win situation. "Are you going to make it yourself?" I inquired and he nodded. "What do you think of me? I've been a bachelor for the longest time. So making a bit of hot chocolate here and there isn't any

Zyrielle's POV. "Damn it," I muttered slowly as I saw Rain jubilating and wiggling his brows. This beef stew tasted so well and the burst of flavors on my tongue was to die for. I would say that this was my best meal so far that I had been privileged to taste and my head was practically spinning at this point out of deliriousness. "What did you say, baby?" He inquired while raising his brows and making suggestive faces at me. "I knew that I was going to wow you. Look at you being short of words just at one spoonful of my secret recipe. I need to hear you call this a masterpiece." He said and I shook my head. He was gloating quite alright but he truly deserved it. I wasn't sure that I could get someone who was as confident in their skills as he was. "I said dammit because I didn't feel the taste. Something is missing here..." I wrinkled my nose acting as there it was trash despite knowing that it wasn't I just wanted to bring down his ego but he wasn't letting me do that.

Zyrielle’s office was filled with the warm afternoon sunlight, showering a soft glow on the sleek furniture and the framed photographs that hung on the walls. She stood by the window, sipping her coffee as she gazed out at the bustling street below her. It was hard to believe how much her life had changed. Her fashion business had blossomed into one the biggest brands in Wisconsin; you couldn't even walk into a boutique without seeing her clothes. Every major fashion house in the country seemed to want a piece of her, a lot of them offering a large amount of money to have her relocate. She had declined their offers of course. Moving out of Wisconsin wasn’t part of her plan, this place had become her home. Not just that, it was also a matter of pride. She built this business with her bare hands and she'd be damned before she gave it away to strangers. She placed her cup down and walked over to a dress form draped in one of her latest designs. Running her fingers over the delicate embro

Author's POV.The sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Zyrielle’s studio, painting the room in golden light. The soft hum of her sewing machine filled the air, a comforting rhythm that steadied her nerves. She stood back from the mannequin, her fingers trailing over the fabric of her latest creation. The dress was a masterpiece, an accumulation of everything she had learned and done to get to this point. Her fashion business was finally taking off, and every day looked better than the last. Orders flooded in, collaborations were just on the horizon, and she felt, for the first time in years, that she was finally making progress. And yet, a strange unease simmered beneath all of it.Zyrielle shook her head and glanced at the clock. “Maybe I just need some fresh air,” she muttered, grabbing her bag and stepping outside. The city greeted her with its usual hustle and bustle vibe. The chatter of pedestrians, the distant honking of cars, the scent of freshly baked pastr

Rain's POVLife had a funny way of stitching moments together—victory, love, and the occasional unexpected twist. Today was a day stitched in gold. As I stood in the kitchen, holding a steaming mug of coffee, my thoughts drifted to the woman sleeping upstairs. Zyrielle. My wife, my anchor, the woman I loved more than life itself. The mere thought of her brought a smile to my face. After everything we’d been through, the surgeries, the sleepless nights, the worry—I could finally breathe again. She was here, alive, and so were our babies. Life felt like it was finally clicking into place, and I swore to myself that nothing would stop me from building the future I’d dreamed of.As I sipped my coffee, my phone flared up on the counter. I reached to pick it up, barely glancing at the screen before answering.“Rain Lark,” I responded, giving my new surname, whilst leaning against the counter.“Mr. Lark!” an excited voice burst through the line. “I have fantastic news! Zyrielle’s PovI felt my toes curl up slowly against my cold feet as I gained consciousness. The first thing that came to my senses was the crisp sheets of the hospital bed and the very strong stench of antiseptic.I thought I had gotten accustomed to it by now but it striked me each time.I groaned a little as I tried to lift myself to sit up with my eyes glued shut. My body still ached all over, but I was certainly feeling more energized. For the first time in what felt like weeks, I wasn't drowning in absolute pain.Instead, I felt— alive. My eyes finally fluttered open, and the first thing I saw was Rain, sitting by my side in a cushioned chair. His deep blue eyes were focused on me, his expression a mix of relief and hesitation. He wasn’t touching me, though, just sitting there like he didn’t know what to do with himself.I found that oddly cute.“Rain,” I croaked out, my voice weak but steady. I needed something to drink, I couldn't understand why my throat felt so dry.His li

Zyrielle's POV. "I want you to tell me if you feel any pains in your body." The doctor told me just before I was taken into the theater. I took a deep breath and watched my husband shake at the thought of me going inside the machine and being operated on. It was a 50/50 chance of survival and we knew what this meant. One of us wasn't going to come out alive and I hope that it wasn't my kids. "Can I speak to my husband before I go in?" I responded instead and Rain jumped at my side immediately. I had never seen him this angry in my entire life and out of his wits. If there was a way he could take away the pain from me and inflict himself instead, he would have done it, and my heart went out to him. Marcus also watched us from the glass mirror and acted as a moral support but it wasn't going to be enough to quench the way my husband felt about this situation. I was certain that he would punch the doctor if it ended up not going well. "I need you to be strong for me and the kids. We

Rain's POV“Please you have to try”“I understand, Mr. Rain, but my hands are tied. I can't take on a case like this. I'm sorry.” With that, the call ended, and I clutched the phone tightly in my palm. This couldn’t be it. That was the third hospital to refuse to operate on her but I wasn't giving up, not when her life was in danger.I kept scrolling through the endless list of contacts. Each name blurred together, none offering the solution I desperately searched for.“Rain,” my father’s voice broke through the haze, he was also searching for a doctor who could help me. I was glad for his support because I couldn't do this alone. “Any luck?” He questioned, and I shook my head, defeated.“We’re running out of options, I can’t lose her,” I murmured in a pleading tone. “She’s everything to me, my life will be meaningless without her in it”“We won’t have faith,” he assured, his tone firm, though his eyes betrayed his doubts. “I’ve reached out to my network and there's someone who might

Zyrielle's pov.My head throbbed badly as I regained consciousness; slowly, I blinked back, forcing my eyelids open to the ceiling of the hospital wards. The room was quiet except for the soft beep of the machine and footsteps. I angled my head spotting Rain pacing in the room.I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side made me wince, forcing me to lie back down. "Rain... I called out barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to catch his attention. He froze mid-step, his broad shoulders tense as he turned toward me."You're awake," he murmured rushing to my side. "Finally.""Finally?" I repeated, bewildered. "What do you mean, finally? What happened? How did I end up here?"He didn’t immediately answer, his eyes scanning me as though checking for any signs of injury. His jaw was tight, and for a moment, he hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. Then, he let out a low breath, stepping closer to the bed."How are you feeling?" The question came out soft, almost too gen

I tried to move and tried to get away but I couldn't move.I was trapped.“Goodbye, Zyrielle,” she sneered, raising the knife and stabbing me right in the heart.“No!” I cried, jolting awake. My breathing ragged and I was sweating profusely.Instinctively, my arm clutched my chest, feeling my heart this rapidly; I wasn't injured. It was just a dream yet why did it feel so real?I felt a nudge by my side and I turned sharply, finding Rain half awake beside me. His arm was draped over his forehead, his brows furrowed even in rest. Reaching out, I touched his shoulder, my fingers trembling."Rain," I whispered, my voice cracking. He stirred, blinking slowly before turning his head to look at me. "Hey, you good?" Zyrielle's POV.I shifted uncomfortably in my spot watching Rain clench and unclench his hands on the steering wheel. The tension between us was so palpable you could slice a knife through it, I didn't like the silence between us. I know he was worried still it didn't feel right."You're too quiet," I finally ventured, my voice cutting through the stillness like glass breaking. "Stop overthinking. It’s going to be fine."Rain’s jaw tightened, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he kept driving. "When we find her it will be fine," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper."Do you have any support on this? Were you able to convince them to help us out or are you trying to play the hero and do this alone?"For a while, he didn't reply, and I could tell he was battling with whether he should tell the truth or not."I’ve got a few," he finally admitted, his voice flat, devoid of the confidence I’d hoped to hear."A few?"
