CHAPTER 16 - Nothing but just a misunderstanding

It was none other than Shawn. He had red eyes, as if he didn't sleep for weeks. The hurt was visible in his voice. Even if they had nothing among them, he still had something for her. 

Could it be the love from the first sight of her? The fragrance made his heart roll over and over. He still couldn't forget the kiss from that night.

He ignored everyone there and mumbled words while staring at her. "You're with him again?"

The words she said to him hit her mind again and again. 

[Of course, I thought a lot about your words last night. It made me realize that we should look forward to the future. Past is the past, and we can't change anything. Better live my present life.]

She lowered her head and glanced down. The moment was all about awkwardness, and Mark added much more when he grabbed her waist and showed off their togetherness.

"Is he your son, Mr. Vaughan?"

"Don't call him my son. This jerk doesn't deserve to be my son."

His mom pinched on his arm and asked him to stay quiet. His mom gently handled everything well. Despite that, Shawn's anger was above anything. He wasted no time and walked away while Selena saw him disappearing from her sight.

She took a deep breath before turning back. 

To lighten the mood, his mom grabbed their hands and sent them to the dance floor.

"Go and dance, kids. We're watching you."

For the sake of his mom, Shawn's dad allowed him to join this party. He finally met his mom, but his dad gave him no chance to talk.

They walked towards the dance area, and Mark grabbed her waist, pulling her close.

On the other hand, Shawn sat calmly around the bar area and kept having his drinks.

She was forced to put her hands over his shoulder. She took a step closer, and they rounded.

The Audience cheered for them. 

There were no feelings radiant in her heart. She tried to finish this act because she knew someone misunderstood her. She was looking for a perfect chance to clear this doubt with Shawn.

She could do it only if Mark gave her a chance to be alone. He was trying his best, but Selena already had her decision-ready.

Then a voice came, and couples turned to find another partner. She rounded over and over. The spotlight followed her until she bumped into a muscular chest.

She looked above and met Shawn's daring eyes. She finally could hear the slow music around them. Now, the voice of the audience didn't reach her ears.

He turned elegantly, his body in tune with the slow music. Yet, there was a sort of crudity to him, like he was someone who shouldn’t be underrated.

The warmth between them grew more effectual by the flash. Her heartbeat rapidly grew steadily along with it. 

Their feet moved in sync, and so their eyes locked on each other.

That was when she decided to let go. Let her concerns, pain, and sorrow go. Right there, right now, she felt like living. 

Nothing else seemed to matter anymore; she allowed him to take her wherever he wished on this dance floor. He went right; she went right.

He raced up; she followed up. 

With the song, they became one, with the dance and with each other.

The moment he pulled her arms and her face stopped just an inch away from his face.

It was the closest moment between them. 

There was confusion between them, and the closeness bothered him.

When the song ended, the audiences’ applause filled their ears. She had tears in her eyes when he apparently separated himself away from her.

She watched him leaving the hall, and so she followed him.

Right there, Chris watched the whole drama. He drank up the glass before following them.

He kept on walking while she rushed to chase him. At that moment, she finally covered the distance and came in his way.

"Stop neglecting me like that."

"What should I do then? Aren't you already with your jerk ex?"

"It's not what it looks like, Shawn. Can you hear my explanation too?"

She tried, she tried a lot, but he was not ready to listen to her. He had his narcissism first over anything.

"Nothing left to hear. My eyes saw it all, Selena. And who am I to comment on it? Just your boss. Whether you try to sign with Celine or get back to your ex. It's not my concern, right?"

She left with nothing but disappointment. 

She expected him to be more mature, yet he was playing childish around. 

She wanted a peaceful life, and clearing up with him could help a lot. But he was not ready even for a talk.

"You're right! I'm a fool who thought so much more than needed. I took everything wrongly. How can I even think of us in one shoe? You had an egoism which I can never tolerate, Shawn. Act as nothing happened then." She declared in a weeping tone. 

"That's better!" Shawn didn't even care about it and left from there, giving a cold shoulder once again.

She stayed there with her elbows resting on the balcony's railing. Her face was lowered and eyes closed. She misunderstood the situation again. She thought Shawn thought of her as something else. A tear rolled down her cheek.

"It turned out... It turned out my affection was just a misunderstanding."
