Brielle's POV
“Now,” Andrei confirmed. “Why the rush to leave so quickly, my dear? We've just begun our journey as husband and wife. Shouldn't we savor this time together?" I swallowed hard, my throat constricting as my anxiety intensified. With a slight shake of my hand, I attempted to grasp the handle of Andrei's wheelchair, but before I could, he swiftly placed his hand over mine, gently guiding it away from the wheelchair. “I’ve got this, Brielle.” He then pressed the controls on the armrest of his wheelchair, and I adjusted my pace to match his. But my mind was still spinning from the chaos Brielle unleashed. Knocking someone out cold with a bottle? Sure, I knew my bestie can be a bit crazy sometimes. But to hit someone with a damn bottle? On top of everything else, we didn’t know if Liam had any ties to Andrei. No. Please, God. Drey is already neck-deep in problems. He's been through a great deal such that I feel empathy for him. And then, out of the blue, Ivy decides to unleash more trouble. What the hell was she thinking? Drey’s eyes flicked to me, an expectant look on his face. “Something on your mind, Brielle? You've been awfully quiet." “Well, I… there’s a bit of a situation with Ivy,” I stammered, trying my best to sound calm. “She needs me.” “Oh, I see. Hope your friend's alright. Is it urgent?” I nodded, my mind racing for a way to explain the urgency without revealing too much. “Yes, she's…she's had a bit of an accident. She's um… She's pretty shaken up and could use some moral support…" “I’d like you to meet my doctor, Eva,” he explained. “After that, you can go check on your friend Ivy. Is that okay?” “That’s... That's fine." We entered the spacious living room, and its grandeur took my breath away. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls exposed the vibrant landscape in all its glory, while the high ceilings and polished floors added an opulent sheen to the already awe-inspiring space. My attention was drawn to the corner of the room, where I spotted the same gentleman with whom Andrei had previously conversed, standing with the same dignified air as before. He turned his gaze towards me, offering a courteous smile, but I was too disoriented to return the gesture. Andrei addressed the well-dressed man: “Any news from Liam yet, Paul?” “I’m afraid we haven’t received any communication from your brother since last night, sir.” My heart plummeted. Liam, Andrei… brothers? Holy shit! I needed to take the weight off my feet, so I promptly plopped my ass down on the nearest cushion. Just as I was grappling with this game-changing revelation, a stunning young woman entered the room, her presence catching me off guard. Dressed in a crisp, white lab coat, her youthful beauty was striking, highlighted by a cascade of golden blonde hair that danced over her shoulders, framing a face with the most piercing blue eyes I’d ever seen. Her gaze lingered on me for a fraction too long, giving me an eerie feeling that she was studying me. Realization struck—this must be Dr. Eva, Andrei’s personal doctor. As she approached Andrei, the atmosphere shifted from businesslike to a warmth that felt almost intimate. She knelt to his level, her hand gently grazing his face. Her voice, soft yet clear, carried across the room as she announced, “I’ll take off your mask now, Andrei.” Andrei's refusal was subtle, a simple shake of his head that conveyed more than words ever could. "Please, Drey. Let me,” Eva's insistence seemed to stem from a place of genuine concern and I couldn’t help but wonder why she was so adamant about removing Andrei’s mask when he was clearly uncomfortable with the idea. Still, her hand hovered over his mask, her persistence mounting, “Just let me_” “Didn’t you hear him?” Helen snapped, stepping protectively in front of Andrei as Edna joined her side. “He doesn’t want you to take off his mask. And if you’re smart, you’ll listen.” Eva's Azure gaze hardened as she stood tall, "I’m a certified medical professional, Helen, and You don’t tell me how to treat my patient.” “As you can see, Drey is fine. Very fine. When he needs your expertise, we will call you. Now leave!” Eva chortled in disbelief, “It’s not that simple. “Drey is my patient, and I can’t just up and leave because you demand it. He’s still dealing with PTSD… and he needs treatment.” “Don’t bother with all this talk about PTSD,” Helen retorted dismissively. “You’re the reason Drey’s suffering from it in the first place. His symptoms only flare up when you’re around.” “Enough!” The word came out as a snarl, barely contained rage seeping into every syllable. “Both of you. Helen, Eva, enough!” I had never seen Andrei lose his temper, and it was unexpected to witness his transformation from calm to seething_ The room fell silent but for the suppressed murmurs of Edna, Helen’s glare of disapproval, and Eva’s teeth grinding in barely concealed rage. Amidst all of this drama, the buzzing of my phone was relentless, a persistent reminder of Ivy’s efforts to reach me. The knot in my stomach tightened, and I nervously bit down on my lips. With the tension in the living room reaching a fever pitch, I knew it was now or never. I quietly rose from my seat, and quietly walked out of the living room. I slipped into the kitchen, which featured a glass sliding door that led to the garden. I eased the door open, and Just as I thought I’d made a clean getaway, Andrei's voice cut through the silence, calling out my name. Shit!Brielle's POV With a heady mixture of panic and disbelief coursing through me, I practically bolted from Ivy's bedroom, “For God’s sake! What in the world did you do? What happened here?!” “Stop sounding so hysterical, Brielle. You’re scaring the shit out of me." The absurdity of Ivy’s statement knocked me off-kilter. I whipped around to face her, “Are you fucking serious? We’ve got a guy lying here, dead or dying, with blood all over his face, and you’re telling me to not freak you out? Yeah, let’s just crack open the champagne and party,” I drawled sarcastically. “Because who cares that there might be a dead guy in your bedroom, right? We’re clearly the life of the party here.” All jokes aside, I faced Ivy with a steely gaze, demanding answers. “What the hell happened?' My patience wore thin with every passing second. Ivy was hesitant and right now, time was the one thing we didn’t have. “Spill it, Ivy, or I’m walking,” I warned, leveling a steely gaze in her direction
Brielle's POV Desperation twisted Ivy’s face, her eyes pleading, “Liam’s life is hanging by a thread, Brielle. Every minute we argue is another minute we lose. If you’re scared of seeing Sanjay again because of some ancient history between you two, you need to get over it. Fast." Jeez. I thought I got over him. Why the hell am I so worked up at the thought of seeing Sanjay again? Sanjay's this adorable, Indian guy I used to have a major crush on. I mean, I tried everything—cards, letters—to get his attention. And nothing. I’m still kicking myself for being so stupid. I’d tried so damn hard to get over him, to put those feelings to bed once and for all. What if seeing Sanjay again stirs up those old feelings? What if I start liking him all over again? I’d already tied the knot with someone else, and the last thing I needed was any more complications. In a nervous tic, I began twisting the ring on my finger, a gesture that caught Ivy’s eye. She gave me a questioning look, an
Brielle's POV Entering the grand living room, of the Carter estate, I was greeted by a familiar sight: Andrei, seated in his wheelchair, a slight, almost knowing smile playing across his features, visible even in the soft, subdued lighting that cast a gentle glow across the room. “I'm glad you made it back safely. Ms. Monroe.” My smile was subtle. But then, a sweet, divine scent captured my attention: the roses in Andrei's grasp. Those flowers were a sight to behold—all delicate and fragrant. With a gentle, almost courtly gesture, he presented me with the bouquet. I gratefully accepted them. But a nagging thought gnawed at the back of my mind. It wasn't my birthday, and it was far too early for Valentine’s Day. Curiosity getting the better of me, I inquired, "What’s the occasion?” “Not everything needs to be tied to a specific occasion, When you share your life with someone special, every day is something to be cherished. And that, Ms. Monroe, is what I wanted to do
Brielle's POV It was as if I were being bombarded with all this contract talk from Andrei Carter. He was talking a mile a minute about what it entailed and all that, but I was lost. Still, he kept throwing out questions, asking if I agreed completely, if I was okay with it. How could I possibly say yes or no, when I didn't have a clue what I agreed to? I had made it abundantly clear that I hadn’t signed any marriage contract with him, yet he continued to push the issue. By the time dinner rolled around, I was completely drained. Two days as a married woman, and already I was up to my eyeballs in chaos. I needed sleep like a drowning man needs air. *** I awoke to find Andrei calmly seated in his wheelchair, his distinctive smile greeting me as it always did. As my vision adjusted to the light, I noticed a tray resting on his lap, carrying a warm cup of tea and several freshly baked cookies, whose tantalizing scent wafted through the air. “Edna was just outside with
“Brielle. It's quite a surprise what… What are you doing here?” Sanjay's question mirrors my own thoughts. “I'm interning at Centurion Medical Center under the supervision of Eva Adams. That, that explains why I'm here.” Right. He's working with Dr. Eva, the ice queen herself. That woman had some serious nerve, dismissing me like that. I understand she's a high-profile doctor and all, but a little common courtesy won't kill her. “What about you, Brielle? What brings you to Centurion Medical Center today?” “I, uh…” My eyes darted away. Sanjay's brow creased, concern flashing in his eyes as he looked at me. “Are you sick? Is that why you’re here?” “No, no. Sanjay, I'm not sick. Can we… can we talk outside?” I shot a quick glance at the partitioning curtain, the hushed voices of Eva and Andrei still echoing behind it. We exited the office and entered the hospital's sterile corridor. Sanjay stated, “I've been trying to reach you, Brielle, to inform you that Liam has been
“A patient needs our attention, not idle chatter about romance,” Eva's footsteps announced her arrival behind me. She directed a stern look that was all business to Sanjay, “You should go check if the patient in the operating room is ready for his pre-anesthesia evaluation. I’ll handle things here.” I glanced over at Ivy, —she was waving her hand, a grin on her face as she bared her pearly whites at Sanjay. In response Sanjay offered a subtle wink. And I couldn’t help but wonder if these two were up to something fishy. With Sanjay’s departure Eva turned to Ivy and me “If you wouldn’t mind giving us some space, we need to avoid overwhelming the patient.” “Brielle should wait behind” Drey said without looking at me, his tone—which usually held warmth—growing chilly. What the hell was that about? Was he mad at me for leaving him behind? Jeez, it's not like I had a choice. After all It's his bossy, know-it-all doctor who thinks I'm crazy. 'Buying her an Audi won't make her an
“I thought you two had discussed it, Helen. That’s why you’ve been holed up in your room, right? You seemed so upset.” Edna said. “What do you mean ‘discussed it' Edna? You think I would be okay with her moving in if I knew about it?” Helen retorted. As if on cue, Andrei wheeled himself into the living room, his voice level as he replied, “I did mention it in passing, Helen. I didn’t think it would be such a big deal.”Somehow, I was angry at him. I mean, here he was putting his doctor before his ‘pretend wife’. Didn’t matter we were in a contract marriage; I deserved to know. ‘Moving in’ meant Dr. Bossypants was coming to stay.Whoa, hold on a sec. Maybe this whole thing's about Eva and Andrei not trusting me.They both might be looking at me and thinking I'm the crazy one. Seriously, are they really out here believing I'm unstable?I let out a big, exasperated huff, flabbergasted by the whole mess. The back-and-forth between Andrei and Helen only got heated, “No, no Andrei. You to
I could feel Andrei's body restless, fidgeting and turning. His sleep was fitful, and his mumbles were filled with confusion. Among the garbled words, one name stood out clearly — Anna. I turned towards him. I gently placed my hand on his arm, attempting to soothe him in his slumber, but the intensity of his body heat startled me and I pulled my hand back. He seemed to be displaying symptoms of fever. I dropped off the mattress, a silent battle raging within me. Should I call his doctor? But was she even helping him? I just wasn't sure. Once again, I softly called his name. His brown eyes, fluttered open, darker and heavier than normal. His breathing was rapid and shallow. My heart was going a mile a minute, and Before I could catch my breath, the door swung and then, in comes Eva, “I'm here to give Andrei his medication,” she stated matter-of-factly. “In the future, have the decency to knock before barging into someone's bedroom.” I snapped. The nerve of her acting li
Brielle's POV I glance towards the entrance, and my heart skips a beat as Andrei stands there, his presence a welcome relief. Finally, he's home. But my attention quickly shifts to the unsettling scene unfolding before me. Helen's behavior is erratic, and I'm lost. She's been ranting about bad omens and curses, things that need to be “cleansed.” I exchange a bewildered glance with Andrei, his expression mirroring my confusion. I thought I knew Helen, but this superstitious side of her is unfamiliar. And who is this elderly man she's brought along? His presence only adds to the chaos. Andrei's face darkens, his eyes narrowing as he takes in the scene. He looks like he's about to explode. “Oh, Andrei, thank goodness you're here! We need your help to chase away the evil spirits…" Helen motions for him to follow. He keeps his eyes trained on me, gritting his teeth… Well, don't stare at me like that... “The Oracle's here,” she announces. “He traveled 120 miles just to get here.
Andrei's POV I stand by the window of my office, gazing out at the city skyline. The bustling streets below seem to stretch on forever. My thoughts are lost in the urban landscape when Sarah's soft voice breaks the silence. “Sir, package just arrived.” I turn, and there's Sarah with this gorgeous bunch of roses. Thick, velvety petals in deep red and pink Sarah's cheeks flush as she places the flowers on my desk. “They're pretty. Meant for your wife, I presume? Who else deserves these three dozen beauties?” A smirk plays on my lips, my gaze drifting to the bouquet, “You think Brielle would love this?” “I think she'll love them. They're beautiful.” However, Someone else is getting lucky today, I hand Sarah the roses. “Stick these in the car, would you? I'm done for the day.'” *** I arrive at the hospital around 3 pm, just before visiting hours end. Standing in Jamie's doorway, I take in the serene scene. She sits upright, clutching a teddy bear to her chest, eyes fixed on the
Andrei's POV. Whoever shot at wife better start praying to whatever god they believe in, 'cause they're gonna need all the divine intervention they can get once I get my hands on them. The estate's on high alert. I've reinforced the perimeter, stationed extra men around and sealed off all exits. Brielle's staying put, no arguments. I know she can be stubborn, but I won't budge. She'll remain safe at home while my team and I tackle this Ivy situation, no matter how deadly it gets. However, the latest update has my gut twisting. The location's been rigged with explosives. It's absolute chaos unlike anything I've ever witnessed. Events unfold at breakneck speed, but nothing could've prepared me for this. Paul and the explosives expert assured me they'd defuse the bomb, but now I'm gripped by doubt, “How long until extraction?” I ask, eyes fixed on the road ahead. Paul's voice crackles through the earpiece, “Three minutes, tops. We're still working on disabling the security feeds.
THIRD PERSON "You're abandoning ship, Liam? Coward!" Eva's tailing Liam, her feet pounding the ground. He whirls around, his face set in a determined grimace. “This place is a death trap. Every minute we waste, we're one step closer to prison – or worse. You can stay here and rot if you want, but I'm not sticking around to take the fall for all this." “Our plan, our company — we've just started building this thing from scratch! What's going to happen to it all? It's all on the line_” “Fuck it! If you're gonna stay behind and babysit everything, then go for it! You do that shit! I'm ghosting,” Liam walks out, leaving Eva seething. She shoots him a parting glare, accompanied by a scathing curse. But she's not done yet. She's hot on his heels, her feet moving swiftly. “You think you can just bail on me? Think again, Liam.” He storms out of the dilapidated building, slamming the creaky door behind him. The place is a total dump. The surrounding woods are super eerie, wi
Ivy's POV. After hanging up with Andrei, I take a look around and shudder at the creepy atmosphere. The peeling paint, dusty furniture, and flickering lights make this place feel like a haunted house. But my gaze keeps drifting back to the door. It's a behemoth – thick, metal-reinforced, and intimidating. More like a gate than a door, really. I recall trying to secure it earlier… struggling to lift that heavy metal bar and slide the bolt into place. . I'm still catching my breath from that crazy escape. Liam and Eva were too busy arguing to notice me making a run for it. I took off like a shot, pounding up the stairs two at a time. That was either genius or madness. Eva went ballistic, firing three shots that narrowly missed. The woman's got a serious screw loose – Locking myself in here, I've temporarily dodged the bullet, but the clock's ticking. How soon can Andrei rescue me from this hellhole? Each passing moment feels like an eternity. Liam and Eva's fury intensifies, th
Brielle's POV Andrei's intense stare pins me. “You seem uneasy, Brielle What's wrong?” My eyes dart away, taking in the breathtaking view. The rolling hills, lit up by the moon, are like a velvet painting come to life, and the Carter estate glows like a lantern against the dark backdrop. Beautiful scenery, but I'm getting bad juju. Something's off, and it's freaking me out. Andrei's gaze snaps back to mine, his eyes narrowing. “Don't conceal your fears, let me know if something's amiss.” His hand slips behind the hem of his coat, his fingers vanishing from view as though he were tucking something away within its folds. It’s a discreet movement, almost imperceptible, but there’s an undeniable weight to it. I shrug, eyes still scanning the surroundings. “Nothing, Andrei. Just paranoia.” His eyes, dark and intense, bore into mine, questioning my sincerity. I nod, trying to convince myself more than him. “Yeah, I'm good.” “Sure?” “Honestly, it's just a weird feeling I have,” I
Brielle's POV Andrei holds me close, his rhythmic heartbeat calming my fears as he whispers, “I know this seems crazy, Brielle, but trust me – it's necessary.” Trust. Such a fragile thing. Easily broken, hard to repair. But what's love without trust? I think that's what I've been missing – faith in Andrei, in us. Time to take a leap of faith. This feels scary, but also…liberating. Like I'm finally letting go of all the doubts and fears. Accepting Eva back into the family has left me uncertain. I don't want to be selfish, but if Andrei has a child with her, I worry about the dynamics… “Starving, are you?” Andrei inquires, his brow furrowed. I nod. “I'll bring dinner. You bring… your appetite.” “And my willingness to tolerate your cooking.” I quip. Why am I already assuming he's a bad cook? Never seen him in the kitchen, never tasted his food… but something about that grin makes me think “culinary catastrophe.” For some reason, I’m already convinced he’s gonna burn d
Ivy's POV. “Last time I showed up at the Carter industries, I had to put sunglasses on. Courtesy of that little bitch sitting right there.” Eva points at me. My eyes narrow, but I manage to maintain an outward cool, smirking as I mentally stick my tongue out at her. “You're lucky Liam intervened,” I sneer. “Otherwise, I would've gouged out both your eyes. Let's see if you'll still have targets to aim for next time.” The moment the flashlight's beam dances across Eva's swollen eye, I lean back, content to let the nurse do her thing. I'm no doctor, but even I can tell that thing's more messed up than it looks. The nurse's face screws up, probably wondering how to patch up that mess. “Alright, let’s get you fixed up,” she says with the professional grace of someone who's seen much worse. “Fixing that eye, Mariah?” I bark, incredulous. “I took it out for a good reason. That witch deserved every bit of it.” I fix Eva with a glare. She responds in kind. Mariah, caught in the middl
Brielle's POV “Trading champagne toast for coffee breaks, a 9 to 5 maybe?” Andrei raises an eyebrow intrigued, I nod contemplating, his expression turns thoughtful, “I admire your desire to change. What sparked this?” “Just feeling unfulfilled I guess.” “Carter Industries is always open for you, Brielle. It could be a VP position, or a marketing role, or a board membership – whatever you desire.” I know Eva's doing her sabbatical at Carter Industries, and frankly, I want no part in the drama that comes with it. I'm trying to escape the trophy wife trap, not get sucked into more dysfunction. Why did Andrei even mention Carter Industries? Does he not get it? I want to start fresh, not navigate Eva's manipulations. I swear, that woman has a radar for vulnerable moments. She'll sense my uncertainty and pounce. I've had enough of her condescending smiles and veiled insults. Andrei thinks I'm just being stubborn, but he has no idea what it's like to be in my shoes. Eva's prese
