Shawn did not think Xander was a kind person. "Are you sure?"

"Positive!" Xander ended the call with a snap. It was not sympathy for Abigail that motivated him, but rather a sense of empathy, as he too had a beloved grandmother. Thinking of his grandmother, he immediately called Margaret. The elderly woman had been distressed lately due to his pending divorce.

The call was answered by the butler. "Your grandma says she doesn't want to hear your voice."

Xander shook his head helplessly. "Tell Grandma that Abigail's grandmother seems to be ill."

"What? Abigail's grandmother is sick?" Margaret's voice came through. "When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

Beep, beep, beep...

Xander sighed. He had called her as soon as he had found out.

Abigail sat by her grandmother's bedside, gazing at her. She looked at her grandmother's white hair and thin, wrinkled cheeks, her heart aching.
