Althea jerked up when a cup of iced water was poured on her, bringing her back to consciousness.
Perhaps, it could have been better if she had just died than to be woken up to a life filled with more misery. She looked at the Wardens whom she have come to despise so much. They are also part of this torment she's experiencing by being so unjust. "Althea..." She looked towards the direction of the voice, It was Warden Zheng. "Please leave us.." He said to the other wardens who hesitated before leaving. When he was sure they were gone, he moved closer to Althea, squats to her level and places a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry this had to happen. I wasn't on duty that night, I would have done something to prevent this. You must have been so scared, weren't you?" Althea casts her gaze on him. She could see sincerity and concerns in his eyes. She nodded her head, responding to his question. "I.. I promise, I didn't try to escape" She forced herself to say. "Oh dear! I believe you. I know you would not do such a thing. I was extremely worried but there was nothing I could do to bring you out. As police officers, an order cannot be broken. However, seeing how much damage your inmates have done to you, I asked that you be transferred to the state Precinct and it was approved. That way you could get a grip on yourself and get to meet other inmates who are kind, I assume" Tears welled up in Althea's eyes and she couldn't hold back herself, she burst out crying. "Thank you.. I.. I..." "There's no need to thank me. I just feel that you shouldn't have been framed this way. But I promise you, I'll carry out proper investigations and ensure those who framed you up are punished rightly" " But why? Why are you doing this? why are you treating me differently? " She asked that one question that have been bothering her for quite sometime now? Is there a different motive to his actions? Because those who claim to be helping her, always turns out to ruin her. "I once had a daughter, just the same age as you and you look so much like her. The first day I saw you, I almost mistook you for her. Although, she died three months back but I failed to be a proper father to her. Seeing you, made me feel like my daughter returned and that was why i grew a soft spot for you" He explained. Althea became sorry for him. His reasons were genuine and truth be told, she was begining to think he was one of those flirty wardens. " I'm sorry..!" She mumbled. " It's not in your position to be" "Will you be at the state Precinct?" "Unfortunately, I won't. But I do hope you will be better on your own" " Thank you. Thank you so much Warden Zheng! This really means alot" He rubbed her shoulders slightly. " The car will be ready soon. Head back to your cell and get your stuff ready. Be safe Althea! " Althea hasn't been this emotional. Not about herself but Warden Zheng. This might look like something little, but this is a lot to her. Finally, she can breathe properly and away from her crazy inmates. Although, she has no idea how the state Precinct and the inmates there would treat her, but she hopes it gets better. SIX MONTH LATER Althea felt a tap on her shoulder and she knew exactly who that is. She groaned and adjusted on the bed, shrugging her hands off. "Go away Lynx" "Not until you get your a*s off the bed" She knew Lynx will stop at nothing to see that she gets off the bed. "Fine! Just get off me!! " She pushed Lynx off her and lifted herself off the bed, pushing her hair backwards. "Gosh, you look like a zombie with this hair of yours.." Lynx teased, sucking her teeth and shaking her head. "And you look like Maleficent of this century..." Althea teased back and they both shared a laughter. But Lynx is right. She really can't remember the last time she properly had her hair washed and trimmed. Her hair Is over grown and sometimes, it stinks. Well, it's one of the awful things you get to experience as a prisoner. Having a proper bath and getting your hair trimmed all happens once in a blue moon. Although, they wash up everyday, but with a very little quantity of water. "Hey! What are you thinking of? You zoned out again!" Lynx snapped her fingers in front of Althea, interrupting her little thoughts. "Sorry, I just thought of something!" Lynx rolled her eyes. "Anyways, hurry up and let's go. I can't wait to properly wash up my hair, gosh! It stinks so bad!" She pulled the tip of her hair and inhaled, cringing at the odour of it. Althea chuckled, washing her silly act. "Go on ahead, I'll join you later on!" Lynx left. Althea couldn't help the smile that lingered on her lips. Should she say Lynx is the best thing that has happened to her since her arrival in the state Precinct?. Well, obviously... yes! Lynx was brought in shortly after her arrival and since then, they have gotten along quite well. Although, she did want to interact with her fellow inmates, but Lynx wouldn't stop bugging her. She's funny, and natural and Althea could hardly believe that a petite lady as her could commit fraud. Well, who is she to judge? Even the innocent can be dangerous at times. With Lynx around, Althea feels alive. There was someone to talk with and joke around with. It wasn't this way at the other precinct where everyone was after her. Her inmates here aren't bullies. At least, they have all be minding their businesses. Sometimes, she wondered what her life would have been if Warden Zheng had not arranged her transfer. Speaking about Warden Zheng, not a single day passes without Althea thinking about him. Although, she knows that he would be doing okay, but she wants an opportunity again where she can thank him properly. Amidst her thoughts, thoughts about Oscar snuck in. It's been over six months she took the fall for him.. Has he really given up on her? Not a single word from him. Foolish of her to keep hoping inwardly. Does he even think of her even for a split second? Does he at all wonder how she's doing? He hasn't for a single day come visiting! Does he know that she has been transferred to the state Precinct? Althea sighed softly. This is how it feels getting stabbed in the back... The betrayal and hurt penetrates too deep and most times, she wonders if she'd be a"Gosh! I feel fresh.." Lynx said, twirling hair sideways. " I honestly cannot remember the last time I felt this relieved and clean "" Well, we won't get to do this again until six months later... "Lynx sighed. " It's what we have to pass through as prisoners. Althea was quiet, her mind racing with thoughts of what Lynx had said."Let me ask you something Lynx" She turned to Lynx. "Tell me Lynx and I want you to be honest, if you had not been caught by the police, what would you be doing by now?" Lynx placed her hand underneath her jaw, thinking hard. "Let's just say I'd be super rich by now. Having mansions built all round the states. I'd probably be a multimillionaire, don't you think?"" That actually sounds weird! Why would you live off someone else's livelihood? " Althea asked. " Just kidding... " Lynx teased, nudging her arms playfully. "Well, to answer your question rightly, I guess I'd be better off with a well paying Job. I really am not a fraudster you know, but cir
Althea felt belly sweet when the Warden forcefully dragged out the inmates. She stuck out her tongue at the chubby woman who had spoken Ill of her. She's not the type to get back at others, but this was worth it. They shouldn't mess with her just because of her crimes. They're equals regardless."Hey! Why the hell did you do that? " Lynx asked, slapping her arm."They were using hard drugs. Besides you know it's against the law of this precinct right? " "Still, it's none of your business Althea. You shouldn't have had them reported. They have been doing this for ages, and no inmates have dared to report them." Lynx scolded." They got on my nerves. I would have let them off the hook if they had quietly put the cigarettes off but they made fun of my past and I got sick of it. Well, I'm not the one to just see what's wrong and let it slide" Althea said with an eye roll." Well, this is prison... You don't react to certain things. Besides, rights and laws do not work here. They are cert
"Althea!.. Althea!!" Lynx tapped on Althea gently, trying to wake her up. She was awoken by the sound of Althea murmuring in her sleep like she was having a nightmare. Balls of sweats formed on Althea's forehead. Her brows creasing into a frown and her eyes shutting tightly. Lynx tapped her again, her voice raising as she called Althea's name again. Althea jerked up upon hearing her name. Her eyes frantically searching everywhere but as it settled on Lynx, she calmed down a bit. "What happened?" She asked. Lynx crossed her arms underneath her bóöbs, raising her brows. "I should be asking you what happened to you? You kept mumbling in your sleep. Where you having a nightmare or something?" Althea let out a weary sigh, her hand rising to massage the tension in her forehead. She had a nightmare. A really terrifying one at that. It was a dream about Oscar and Katie Roland getting married on the day she was to get released and then, she rushed over to the church to try to stop th
It was visiting hours but Althea sat curled up on her bunk bed. She closed her eyes, lots of thoughts going through her head. She reminisced over the moment she and Katie were at loggerheads and that was over a year ago. _______________Althea used to work at the reception in an hotel when a lady showed up looking elegant as ever. Her bags, shoes and glasses all looked really expensive. She stood in front of the reception and took off her glasses while her mouth rumbled as she chewed her bubble gum noisily."Welcome to Kings Hotel ma'am.." Althea said, smiling widely."Are you Althea Grace Miller?" Althea felt perplexed that the stranger knows her name. However, she remained calm and answered."Yes ma'am, is there a problem?" "Not at all, but I want to have a word with you outside. Let's talk!" Katie turned and walked away, acting all bossy.Althea hesitated, wondering why some Lady she doesn't know wouldn't want to have a word with her. But, she felt it might be work related and
What do you want?" Althea asked, her eyes racing through the inmates. The chubby lady took a step forward and Althea unconsciously took a step back. She could not understand why they would suddenly show up and to top it all, there was no one else in the restroom. She had a strange feeling about this but she stood firm. Lynx was right. They're going to get back at her. It wasn't a new thing to her tho because that's what prisoners do. They never let things slide. "If you aren't going to respond to my question, then move aside, I need to get back to my Ward. She made to pass again, but the chubby lady pushed her backwards, making her fall flat on her butt.Althea groaned slightly. Here comes the bullying she thought she'd avoid at all cost. But still, she did not regret having them reported. They needed to learn their lesson. The chubby lady crouched down before her, grabbing her hair and yanking them backwards. This was always their thing. As though her hair was a gold medal, why
*She deserves to be punished**Let her suffer!!*The protesters at the court kept chanting and all Althea did was lower head in embarrassment. She has never been this embarrassed in her entire life. It's a situation where she can't turn back the hands of time even if she wanted to.A situation where only she had the answers to.She listened quietly to them rain abusive words at her. Their words alone tore her soul to pieces. Everyone sees her as a murderer, they all want her to suffer for the crimes she did not commit. If only they have even the slightest idea that she's innocent and the real murderer is out there, lurking around and living freely."Ms Althea Grace Miller, do you plead guilty or not guilty for the attempted murder of Ms Katie Rolland?" Asked the judge. Slowly, she raised her head up, her eyes lurking through the crowd that had gathered to watch her receive her punishment. Her eyes searched through for that one person who had promised to be there for her. For that o
Like a criminal, Althea was pushed into her jail cell. This was reality, slapping her right at across the face!.Just a month ago, she was living her best life not untill she took the fall for somebody she loves. Now, this is where she is, locked in the four walls of this prison cell. She knew what awaits her, the torture of being in jail and a criminal.. But how is she going to survive this? She shut her eyes tightly, grabbing the rails of the prison door, tears escaping from her eyes. She has been reduced to nothing but a murderer and a fraudster. She trusted him, he had promised her a light sentence, not the five years that was passed to her. What has Oscar done to her? Her mind was conflicted, can she still trust him? Will he still get her out of this hell hole called a cell? She thought within, wiping off the tears that kept rolling down her cheeks."Hey you!!" Her eyes pulled open, hearing a croaked voice say from behind. She refused to turn around, knowing fully well that s
Althea's brows furrowed when she found Oscar's lawyer seated. A feeling of disappointment washed over her because for a split second, she had thought it was Oscar himself and he was finally here to get her out "Hello Althea?" Said the lawyer, putting on the same smile which she found annoying. It was the same smile he had on his face when he had assured her of having a light sentence alongside Oscar. It can't be trusted anymore. What she failed to understand was that, why she was giving that long sentence regardless the promises.Oscar is someone that can get things done at the snap of his fingers, getting her out of jail is a piece of cake for him, yet he hasn't done anything."What brings you here?" She said casually."How have you been Althea?" Asked the lawyer and she snorted."What a ridiculous question to ask, don't you think? Shouldn't you be asking if I'm mentally okay with the five years imprisonment or not?" The lawyer chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck." Wh
