CHAPTER 40: SECOND KILL

ROSALINE’S POV:

The crunching of trees beneath my feet was the only sound that filled the air. I wandered around cluelessly, not bothering to hunt down the various bunnies and lizards that passed me by.

I knew they counted as kills, but there was no way I could kill them in my human form. I mean, I could, but I did not have a weapon.

"Come out, Wolfie Wolfie, it’s time to work your magic," I said aloud, even though it wasn’t necessary.

My wolf was an extension of me; we shared the same soul, so at times I did not even need to think before she knew what I wanted, and vice versa.

But she was always so quiet. She never spoke to me.

My wolf is my best friend, huh?

"You and I do not have the best relationship; I do not know why, but we can’t do this forever, you know. We need to learn how to communicate and understand each other. And honestly, I do not understand you even in the slightest. So can we please try to get along?"

Silence.

A sigh leaves my lips just as my legs give up on me.
