Marry Me

"Valerie!" Liam exclaimed at the sight of his mate, he was confused about her presence in his mother's ward. Inspite of being one of their most trusted warriors, there were boundaries his warriors couldn't cross and this was one of it.

'Mate' his wolf purred in his head, running around in delight. He groaned inwardly at the headache his wolf was causing him as he coerced himself to resist.

'Shut up dante!' He scolded his wolf who refused to listen but instead increased the pace of his bustle in his head.

"Hi Liam" he heard her angelic voice, her lips curling into a wide smile that exposed her teeth. His heartbeat accelerated at her appearance, her intoxicating scent whiffing into his nose and messing up his senses.

His wolf swooned at the sound of her voice, while he vehemently forced himself to resist the mate bond. Despite rejection, the bond between them would linger for a while before getting stale, and it would only get stale if they refused to have any form of sexual relationship.

This was done by the moon goddess, so that rejected mates who found themselves falling in love again could have a chance at a redo.

But he wasn't one for that, he was never letting her rejection swing by like it never happened. She had rejected him and acted so nonchalant after the rebuff, he just wasn't going to forget about her dismissal and act like all was well between them.

He heard his wolf growl at his thought in opposition, he ignored him and mindlinked his beta instead.

‘What's she doing here?’ he queried.

‘I don't know too. Your mother asked to see her.’ Kelvin replied, his voice mumbling in his mind.

He was curious. He wondered why his mother would request to see his ex-mate, they never really got along. And that wasn't because his mother was evil or anything, it was just that Valerie was never around. She was a travel warrior.

“What's going on here?” He bellowed unequivocally, staring her down.

“I think you should go see your mother first then we'll talk” She smirked mischievouly at him, like his mother and her had something up their sleeves.

He entered the room his sick mother was supposed to be and closed the door to allow them the privacy to speak.

The hospital was owned by his pack, though after the war it became a general hospital for both humans and werewolves. The point was that each room was built with a peculiar aluminium sheet which disallowed the advanced hearing of werewolves. The purpose was to give each patient the privacy they deserved.

“mum” he called out to his mother who was sitting on the bed in the middle of the room. Her back resting on the wall behind her, his father was beside her with their hands interlocked.

He had always been jealous of his parents love story. They were the perfect example of the definition of love. Unrelenting, unyielding and persistent love. Their story was the best and they never wavered in ringing it in their children's ear.

They had met at a gala, his mother-at the time, was the daughter of the gamma of a well known pack while his father was the typical arrogant soon-to-be Alpha. All of that was before the conflict between werewolves and humans, his mother's pack didn't even exist anymore.

“oh Liam! My poor poor baby” his mother whined playfully, extending her hand for a hug.

From his arrogant and aloof exterior, no one would suspect that Liam was a baby when he was with his mother. It was a secret he preferred to keep, and wanted to be kept that way.

He trotted towards her and pulled her in his embrace, she groaned and giggled at the impact of his hug while ruffling his hair. His mother had always dotted on him since he was a child, you could call him a mama's boy. He had just never showed this side of him to anyone, except Olivia anyways. And she ended up being a player. He sure was a very bad judge of character.

It wasn't his fault right? The moon goddess was to be blamed for choosing the wrong mate for him. Also, Olivia was the perfect rebound he needed to get his head away from Valerie, it was a win-win situation.

‘The moon goddess can never be wrong stupid. Stop fighting the bond’ dante bellowed to him, which he ignored.

“are you ok?” he pulled away from her to observe her features. She looked leaner than he last remembered, almost like she had lost a lot of weight. Her eyes that always held so much life appeared dead and withdrawn.

His heart ached for his mother, he couldn't lose her.

“Yes of course i am” She flashed him an enthusiastic smile, a little too enthusiastic that he knew immediately that she was lying. She wasn't ok.

He turned to his father at her statement, raising his eyebrow in curiosity. His father looked away and avoided his eyes, confirming his thought.

How bad was it? Was she dying? Was it really the point where he'd lose his mother? He couldn't believe it. He had been so focused on his rejection and getting his wolf back that he didn't even notice that his mother's sickness had gotten worse.

“How bad is it?” He ignored her earlier affirmation, cutting straight to the chase. They were really bad liars.

“The doctor said she either undergoes a major surgery or have few months to live” his father grunted in melancholy.

“so what's stopping her? Let her do the surgery.” he muttered.

“She would have a high chance of losing her wolf. The doctor had called in a few favors from his foreign counterparts who made a diagnosis of a coronary heart disease. If she persisted without surgery, could lead to her death. But if she decides to take the surgery she had the possibility of losing her wolf.” His father explained.

“oh mum” Liam groaned in pain, pulling his mother back in his embrace.

“i can't lose her Liam. She's my connection to your father, we'd grown together, it will also affect his wolf” he heard his mother croak from his chest as her eyes pooled with unshed tears.

The mate bond worked in mysterious ways. His mother and father's wolf had grown together, as they became older the mate bond got stronger. Which was why, if his mother ever died or lose her wolf, his father's wolf had the tendency to go on exile.

“We'd still love one another grace, even without the mate bond. We'll grow old and our love will be sufficient for us” his father pronounced lovingly.

“I don't know if i can do that to you. That would be so selfish of me” his mother refused.

“losing you would do more damage grace” Liam watched the exchange between them in sadness while he patted his mother's back in consolation. She hiccupped and sniffed, still on his chest.

The room was getting too sad and gloomy, he knew he had to change the topic or he'd cry-which he couldn't afford to do.

“I saw Valerie outside your ward mum” He said, looking down to stare into her eyes.

His mother sniffed and cleaned her teared filled eyes, before biting her lips nervously.

More suspicious than ever, he pressed her “Mum? Valerie was outside the door”

“uhm….that!” she avoided his eyes. “Well……” she drawled. “you know i could either die in this surgery or lose my wolf right?” Liam nodded impatiently. She needed to go straight to the pointed.

“I kind of begged her to marry you” His mother uttered and grimaced, immediately closing her eyes for his outburst.
