KAIN’S POV:The chattering and laughter echoing from behind my door distracts me from my train of thoughts and the very important work in front of me, sending me into a momentary frenzy. With a throbbing head from hours of work without taking a break, I stand from behind my desk, walking up front. It’s a known fact that I like my hallways noise free, much more the hallway leading to my office. The audacity of the person behind it fuels my anger and I’m ready to throw them in some cell to spend the rest of their days until they’re forgotten — that is until I push the doors open and I’m caught off guard.Lilith stands on the other side with the other girl I rarely see; I’ve forgotten that one’s name. Beside the both of them is my Beta, IvanShe laughs fondly at something he might have said that she finds hilarious, letting out such a glorious sound I’ve never heard her make in front of me.Something in my chest constricts and even that annoys me, that and the look in her eyes when he’s
LILITH’S POV:“Leave.”Just like that, Kain’s entire countenance changes. One minute, he’s being the annoying prick that he is. The next, he seems too pissed to look me in the eye while kicking me out.I feel offended, or rather, something deeper than that relating more to hurt.A smaller and suppressed part of me wants to know what is going on. Curious about if he’s okay or not, seeing as his work has been cut out for him.But there’s no need to ask.I turn and leave as commanded, stepping out of his office once I’m on the other side and close the door behind me. I let out a sigh of relief once I rest my back against the door.Even in that heated moment where he had threatened to hurt me as a joke, the boiling heat between us had been too intense. It’s like my body confuses fear with desire around him and suddenly, I’m thinking of him holding me by the throat and choking me while I’m high on cloud 9.I snap myself out of my reverie, slapping my cheeks in the process, so my sanity ca
LILITH’S POV:The street is packed with more than the usual amount of people who are more lively than ever with a few new stands erected specifically for the musical.New stands, with more than enough snacks and food to eat, are erected around, while everything goes down, and a few games to play as well. Now that the day is almost over, it’s as though the entire streets have come to life.It almost as though a carnival has come into town for the day.I myself wait patiently while Ivan is at work, carefully holding the stick made of hard paper as he rolls the cotton candy until it’s a perfect large ball.I can already feel my mouth watering.“Here you go.” He hands me my cotton candy and I grab it from his hands, taking a bite and moan from the deliciousness.Initially, I had thought coming out for the festival today would have been a burst, seeing as after putting Ivan and Ariel together I’d be alone, but now I don’t think so.Only issue is no one will sell anything to me unless I’m w
LILITH’S POV:Our hands fall away from the other, seeing as the dance style requires both partners to move together but never touch. We have a brief stare down, a silent wish; may the best man win, whispers into the air between us and then I begin.I swirl around, holding my dress with one hand and the other hand up while swaying my hips and tapping my feet against the hard earth, putting out my best almost instantly.Kain moves as well, dancing more expertly than I’d imagine. His feet work is almost perfect as his taps, with the hastened beat against the floor. We follow each other, mirroring the other's moves, at some point raising our palms up and close to the other as though we want to hold hands, but keeping a little gap between them.Even without touching his skin, I can feel the heat emanating from him. Heat that only seems to grow the faster we dance and move.I swirl around faster as the beat picks, loving the adrenaline rush pulsing in my veins. I can hear Kain chuckle from
LILITH’S POV:Her eyes lit up like the sun instantly, looking down at the familiar piece of jewelry with doubt. After taking her time to inspect it and realizing that it is, in fact, not some fabricated fact to cheer her up, she looks at me again.“Really?”I nod, feeling a bit of happiness just from her expression.I know I shouldn’t let myself get so involved in this, after all the main aim of all this fussing was to get enough trust out of the both of them. Somewhere along the line, it had become fun.And I sort of like hanging out… just a little bit.So, the tiniest bit of my heart pines desperately for these two people to be together. She ties it around her wrist too, quickly admiring the look of it on her with rose tinted cheeks and a lively shine in her eyes.“What are you waiting for? Go and tell him how you feel.” I push her.The longer she stays, the more her chances pass her by.She looks up at me nervously, too scared to move.“I’m scared.”“What’s the worst that could ha
LILITH’S POV:I strip from my dress and undies with only the thread tied to my wrist and walk into the pool of water that is surprisingly warm and tingling against my skin.I close my nose and fully immerse myself into the water for a minute before standing out fully soaked and gasping for air at the adrenaline rush. Kain walks into the pond slowly, after the rest of his clothes have been carefully taken off and set aside.Even though I’ve seen it more than enough times, the sight of his wide and hard chest has me staring at him too long, unable to look away fast enough. My heart begins pounding harder than ever as he makes his way towards me. When he does, he stands, holding my gaze and towering over my smaller form.He reaches his hands over to my side, tracing them over the skin of my chin slowly before cupping it into his palm. I lean into his comforting touch, only because it feels like the most natural thing do while holding his eyes.“I don’t think we can just swim again.” I
LILITH’S POV: It all happens so fast while I’m left forgotten.Kain directed her to his office where they’ve been for hours after she had revealed herself. Never once had his eyes moved towards me to at least send me off with his words.Weirdly enough, that bothers me and not the fact that he has a bloody sister that decides to show up from nowhere dressed in rags, while her brother is fucking rich.A lot of things don’t add up or make sense, and I can’t sleep.Instead, I walk aimlessly around the hallway as maids run about frantically, preparing a room for the lady.Images of Kain’s expression flashes through my mind when he had heard that she was back and when he had seen her. It didn’t look like an expression a brother would make upon hearing about his sister being well.Or a typical brother and sister reunion.Which only means their relationship is estranged.I spot Ivan in one of the hallways, instructing a few of the maids to prepare a warm meal of porridge for the visitor.“I
KAIN’S POVI tap my finger against the hard mahogany wood of my desk incessantly, deep in thought and trying to figure out the current situation.I’m unable to fully focus on the logical side of things every time she comes into my line of vision. It’s as though my thoughts are jumbled by a senseless feeling of rage, yet I can’t do anything about it.The person in question walks sround my office, staring at every trinket and antique curiously, not holding back from touching everything and shifting them out of its place and more to my uneasiness. She herself is an anomaly standing in everything I’ve created and built for the past 13 years.“I see you’ve upgraded Father’s office with a few of your toys.” She speaks after minutes of silence, starting off without explaining why she’s here or what she needs yet.I groan at the thought of that man. An unreasonable amount of displeasure swells within me.“Don’t mention that man in front of me.” I say curtly.“Why? Still have a sore spot for o
