Chapter Thirty One

Jack's POV

I spend the rest of the day in my room, away from everyone else, as I try to come to terms with the loss of Jenna.

I do not understand why I still feel so strongly for her when I had in fact chosen a mate for myself.

I am also plagued with guilt at the realisation that something bad happened to Jenna in the forest. It doesn't matter whether or not she had been taken willingly by some crazed animal in the forest. The truth remained that I had done something to push her out of the pack, and her leaving was and will always continue to be my fault.

When the door raps once and then pushes open to reveal Violet's face, it distracts me from my thoughts.

She pushes into the room without permission and comes to stand beside my bed, her eyes studying my frame thoughtfully.

“Are you alright?”

“Do I look like I am not?” I retort, fully aware that my tone is biting and that I am in no mood for company.
