The next day…
Anna refused to come out of her room after receiving the treatment the doctor had given her for her injuries. Her aunt, who had raised her, gave her a scornful look as she dropped the tray of food on the bedside. She hadn't taken a single bite when she heard another knock on the door a few minutes later.
Tiffany entered the room and approached the bed with a concerned look. She gasped loudly in shock. “Anna, what happened? Is it true that Darius rejected you?”
Fresh tears spilled out of Anna's eyes when she remembered the most horrible moments of her life. Everything was like a nightmare to her, something she wished she could wipe away from her memory.
“Yes, Tiffany.” Anna sobbed despairingly. “Darius played me like a fool. He lied and deceived me. ”
“I heard something today from my grandpa, who is a pack elder.” Tiffany looked around to make sure they were alone before she continued. “You know there are three states a wolf has, right? Normal, Rogue, and Savage.”
“So?” Anna wiped her runny nose with her sweater sleeves.
“I heard that every man in that Dark Edge pack is in a rogue state. That is why they are so dangerous.” Tiffany enlightened her. “But yesterday, my grandpa said that your rejection pushed Alpha Kodiak into a Savage state. His wolf is now in 70% control of his mind!”
“What?!” Anna shot up from her bed when she heard her friend. The guilt that had been eating her away suddenly returned, she was the one responsible for the whole mess that had happened throughout the pack.
Before Anna could utter another word, the door was barged open by her Luna, who glared at her with an ugly expression. The dominant aura radiating from Anna made her retreat until her back hit the wall.
Her Luna pointed at her and screamed at her, “Anna, do you know what you have done? My son is about to lose his life because that damned Dark Edge Alpha has barged into our house to beat him up!”
“W-What are you saying?”
“Come with me and see for yourself!”
When they were just a few meters from the Stark Pride Alpha's house, Anna could already hear the commotion in the house, which made her unable to take another step forward. She was frightened and tormented about the situation waiting for her to resolve. She was simply a submissive wolf, what if they tried to kill her?
Her Luna did not allow her to escape, but instead pushed her into the house, forcing her to enter a miserable state. Her arrival caused a pin-drop silence when they saw her, but that moment quickly passed when her eyes located Alpha Kodiak in front of her.
He was different now. More dangerous. More savage than she had imagined.
“You brought her here, Hyde?” Alpha Kodiak roared in anger when he saw her, snapping at the Stark Pride Alpha who had been shielding his son while his men subdued him.
“You are not sane anymore, Kodiak. Do you think I will let you cause a ruckus in my territory?!” Hyde scowled back at him, but his outburst only attracted scornful snickers from the Dark Edge men. They all knew that the only reason the alpha hadn't attempted to fight him was because of Kodiak's savage state.
No one wanted to offend him at this precarious moment.
“Kodiak?” Anne successfully gained his attention, almost flinching at his red eyes gazing at her coldly. She had no idea what she could do to remedy this situation, but she was willing to try. “What do you want from me?”
Kodiak's eyes turned angry and pained when he heard her words, but instead of taking it out on her, he spun around Hyde and sent a ruthless kick to his son in the stomach. Darius was sent flying as he hit the wall and quickly fainted.
Kodiak approached her with a lethal aura, wrapping his hand around her stiffened neck. “What would I want from an outcast like you?”
“I don't know. I will do anything to make it up to you.” Anna's eyes quickly became teary when she faced him like this, but it was not from fear this time. She was filled with regret that she had caused him to become like this, she had made a big mistake.
“Then you should become my woman.” Kodiak's other hand pushed back some hair from her face as he spoke to her. The next words he spoke to her shattered any illusion that things would be easy for her. “I guess you no longer deserve the title of being my mate, right?”
Anna stepped back from him in an attempt to escape, her eyes darting to her Alpha and Luna for help. “I-I…”
“You don't have a choice, Anna. This is the only condition I have to leave this pack unscathed from my rage.” His words were said not only to her but also to her alpha as a peace offering and a threat.
Even though savage wolves were normally put down immediately they lost their minds, no one could do it because of the Dark Edge and Frost Fang wolves protecting him. If they dared to kill him, this pack would be filled with bloodshed immediately.
Hyde, the Stark Pride Alpha, agreed without hesitation. “Alright, we will agree to your terms.”
Anna whimpered from fear and disbelief when she heard the two of them converse about her like she was not there. Her opinions did not matter, and from the looks of it, she did not have a choice anymore.
“Please don't do this.” She tried to plead with him. This situation was ridiculous, she had no intention of becoming his mistress!
Kodiak wiped away the tears on her cheek with his thumb, but there was no pity in his gaze this time. He only leaned in and whispered into her ears in a mysterious tone filled with plenty of promises. “Don't worry, princess. I will take good care of you.”
Anna tearfully packed her things into her bag with the help of her friend as she prepared to leave her pack. No one defended her this time, not even her aunty when they heard she was going to the Dark Edge pack. She felt very helplessly facing this mess all by herself with no one to help her. Most female wolves would rather slice their throats than endure such humiliation, so should she do the same thing right now? She was sure that her life in the future was going to be nothing short of hell, which made her wonder if she should just exit this world quietly…“The Dark Edge wolves are here,” Tiffany informed her, peeking through the window as the sunset glow shined through her bed. “I am so sorry, Anna.”“What about Darius? How is he doing?”Her best friend gave her an uncomfortable glance and turned away to stare at the wall as if she hadn't heard anything. Anna was about to demand an answer from her, but a deep, familiar voice responded instead. “He is getting married to his true ma
Anna later woke up in an unfamiliar room where she jerked up from the bed after she noticed she was naked under the blankets. She remembered she fainted when she was travelling with Alpha Kodiak but the rest memories were very blurry to her, she had no idea how she arrived here. Her eyes went to the orange sun setting in the west through her window. A knock on the door mysteriously appeared like an answer to her question, as an old woman walked into the room and placed a food tray and some clothes on the table. “Here you go. Alpha Kodiak said you must finish everything on the plate and come out immediately.”“Thank you.” Anna was famished as well so she did not hesitate to take the food being offered to her. Her eyes wandered around her surroundings before she asked the old woman. “Where am I?”“You are in DarkEdge territory.” The old woman gave her a side glance before she made her way to the door. Anna could sense her hostility so she did not bother to make any further conversation
When Anna regained her consciousness, she could faintly hear some angry and soothing tones beside her which made her scrunch her eyebrows. The people around her didn't seem to notice her small actions as they conversed with one another. Eventually, she recognized one of them and tensed on the bed as she listened...“What do you mean she is still adjusting to the pack? Does it seem like I brought her here to enjoy some sort of paradise?” Kodiak growled as he paced back and forth, ranting to his Beta who had returned his mate a few minutes ago. “I am just trying to take care of your wolf, Sir. You shouldn't go savage now you have returned to the pack. The elders have been keeping an eye on you ever since they heard about the rumors.” “Do you think those old geezers can do anything to me right now?” Kodiak bared his teeth ferociously and halted at one spot, turning his back at his unconscious mate lying on the bed. “If they had the guts to face me, they would have done it from the day
When Anna heard the door open, she immediately tensed again and retreated to a corner expecting to see the frightening Alpha but a woman showed up instead. She recognized her instantly and forced herself to stand straight up. This woman was her mate's mistress, and she had a feeling that she was not here for anything good. “Oh, sweetie...” Giselle dropped the tray on a nearby table when she saw Anna in such a defensive position. She approached her gently, giving her a sympathizing look as she sat on the bed next to her. She reached for Anna's hand and said. “You know, I think this is all my fault.”Anna scrunched her eyebrows in puzzlement, which urged Giselle to explain further. “When Kodiak told me he had found his mate, I wanted to stop him from leaving but he didn't listen. His father had just passed away, so he had many pressing tasks to complete in the pack but he didn't care about that. He only wanted to be near you. If I had prevented him from leaving, he would have never bec
Anna locked her room door to stop her mate from entering her room before she jumped on the bed crying and wailing under her bedsheets. She had gotten hungry when she woke up from a nap and reasoned that Giselle and her friends must have finished baking the cookies so she went to hunt for some food. She sensed Kodiak's return and wanted to see him so they could find a common ground. After thinking deeply for some time, she decided to try and reconcile with him, maybe he would eventually forgive her and let her go.But all of that is worthless now. She had seen and heard everything that she needed to know, and she couldn't help but feel hurt by all the words he had said about her back there. It was clear that he loathed her very existence, that was something that pained both her and her wolf because this situation was not entirely her fault at all. Her ignorance had caused her to hurt both of them, she had turned her mate into a savage wolf because of her need to be loved and her desire
Anna descended from her room after suffering a great humiliation in the afternoon and headed for the kitchen to get some food. On her way to the kitchen, she met Kodak and his Beta, Knox seated along with Giselle for dinner having a light-hearted conversation until she arrived. She quickly served herself some food and went straight to the dining room where she sat and nibbled on her food quietly, bringing in a cold air along with her. The Dark Edge alpha and his wolves immediately fell silent at her unexpected arrival, staring at her strangely as they watched her eat. The former jovial atmosphere was now filled with uncomfortable tension but Anna continued to pretend that she did not notice their looks at all. Giselle who couldn't tolerate her silence anymore finally spoke up. “Anna, I didn't know you would come down to eat, or else I would have gotten the maids to inform you that dinner was ready. How's the food?”Anna stuffed her face with food to avoid answering this two-faced sn
Several days later, Kodiak roamed the large plot of land scanning a half-erected structure that was supposed to be the new pack orphanage with keen eyesight, revising every detail with the architect by his side as he went along the surroundings. The loud hammering sounds and machine drills helped to clear his head and keep him focused for a while, but that didn't last long because a certain person kept appearing in his mind. His proud wolf which was his other half would probably never admit it, but he could sense its longing for its mate and its restlessness about the distance between them. It was still licking its wounds from the rejection it suffered, rolling in its hatred and resentment because this was something that should never happen to a rogue wolf. His Dark Edge pack was one of the most powerful packs in the Great Landmark, along with his twin's Frost Fang pack but his men were a very peculiar species of wolves, born with rogue tendencies right from birth, unlike the rest of
Anna joined her friends as they tried to open the door, but it refused to budge one bit. Catherine had gone as far as to attempt to break the door down but it was modified with a special type of iron very similar to silver. Vivian immediately broke down and started crying loudly, her face covered in tears and snot as she told them in distress. "This is bad, this is so bad...what are we gonna do now?!"Catherine was also shaken by the current situation, but she tried her best to put up a brave front in from of them. "Don't be so hysterical, Vivian. There is no way Giselle can keep us locked up here for more than a day or people will surely notice our disappearance.""You are just saying this because your grandmother is a pack elder, but what if Giselle's father interferes in this?" Vivian glared at her with reddened eyes. "Our alpha is the only person who can truly save us, and he is not even around!"Anna felt frustrated and powerless about their situation. They had gotten themselves
On a night of a full moon...Anna quietly watched the pack priestess performing a ritual in front of the entire pack. It was an important occasion that had drawn people from all four directions of the Great Landmark to witness. Her eyes followed her mate's every move as he assisted the priestess in her incantations but her iron-clad concentration was finally broken when she heard her friend arrive by her side. “Luna," Catherine placed a tray of fruits by her side and tipped her head towards the direction of the ritual taking place. “Is this really necessary? I thought Ryan had already welcomed your child to the pack already. Why did your mate suddenly summon everyone out of their houses for this impromptu ritual?”Anna shrugged innocently, laughing at the hint of complaint in her friend's voice when she replied, “You know how Kodiak is, Catherine. He wasn't happy about it when I told him last night and decided that he would hold another one.”“This is ridiculous!” Catherine mumbled q
Anna had taken countless fighting lessons from her husband when she had been kidnapped by a savage wolf and she had been honing her skills with Ryan and the other guards in the pack. But she had real-life battles neither had she expected it to be this fast and intense. She could barely keep her life with each punch and kick directed at her so she had been forced into a disadvantage from the start. Giselle swiped a claw near her face, her eyes reflecting the sharp edge which caused the crowd to gasp in fear and anticipation. Anna could sense the vicious determination in Giselle's lightning-fast attacks to end her there but she was not going to let herself be pushed around like that. Anna ducked under another attack and instantly struck out her leg to clear her opponent's own to gain the upper hand. When she succeeded in making Giselle lose her balance, she jumped and planted a punch in her jaw. The dominant female wolf immediately crashed to the ground with a wave of dizziness. When
The news of the duel quickly spread across the Dark Edge pack and beyond, but the mere news was more unbelievable when they heard that a submissive female wolf was going to fight with a dominant wolf. Many bets were already placed on the fight and everyone thought they could foresee the results. After all, Giselle's prowess and strength were well known across the Great Landmark but not many people knew about Anna Knightley. When Catherine and Vivian heard about the news, they immediately demanded to see their friend and came to see her. “Anna, you are not serious about going to fight with Giselle, right?” Vivian gave her a concerned look before adding, “Every woman in the pack knows her character very well, she is the type of person who will do anything to win. What if she tries to kill you there?”Anna shrugged helplessly, “Then I guess I will have to perish there.” She rolled her eyes seeing her friends' appalled looks and spoke, “Oh, don't give me that look, Vivian. Now that me a
The atmosphere in the pack was solemn and tense after the guests had departed, leaving behind only the pack residents in a state of anxiety and trepidation. The hostile takeover had left some people unconcerned since they believed that whoever would replace Kodiak wouldn't harm them, but others couldn't help but worry about the alpha's well-being and whereabouts, having witnessed his triumph in the duel arena.“How dare he do this to me? That bloody bastard!” Mrs. Hoyles, who had been locked up in her house like a caged animal, snarled in rage as she paced back and forth furiously. Conan LeWren, who had been sparing no efforts in suppressing his opponents and searching for the alpha, still couldn't locate him.Mrs. Hoyles felt relieved that she had contacted her grandson in time, urging him not to return to the pack in the meantime. She knew Knox's temper very well, and the last thing she wanted was to hold his dead body at the moment he discovered that something bad had happened to h
Anna lay on the crisp white sheets, her body contorting in pain as she released guttural sounds of pain that echoed throughout the brightly lit room. Sweat glistened on her forehead, the intensity of her pain etched on her face as she gripped the sheets tightly. The pack physician stood in front of her, whispering encouraging words to her with a calm expression that he had learned to master, “Please push, Anna. You're almost there.”“I can't.” Anna cried out in pain, tears blurring her vision. Her breath came out in ragged bursts as she asked him. “Where is Kodiak? Why isn't he here yet?”“He will come soon,” The nurse beside the physician reassured her but her eyes widened when she noticed that the lady was slowly slipping into an unconscious state. “Hey, ma'am! Please don't fall asleep, we need your strength to deliver this baby!”“I-I...need my mate...”Anna mumbled under her breath as her eyes dripped low. The only thing that had been stopping her from falling unconscious all this
After staying in the Frost Fang pack for two days, Alpha Kodiak stood in the room watching the Frost Fang pack physician examine his brother once more after he had transferred some of his wolf's energy to Zayn who weakly laid on the bed. The doctor checked him once more before he put away his stethoscope and informed them, "His condition has been stabilized now, but he will need lots of bed rest for his fractured bones to heal, and he shouldn't overexert himself working from home." "What about his scars?" Kodiak pointed at the long, jagged slash across his twin's face, frowning at the blemish that had now ruined his brother's handsome face. He couldn't help but blame himself for not being there when his brother needed him the most. Maybe it was because he had witnessed Zayn beating people up rather than getting beat up so he thought he would naturally pull through. The pack physician cast one more glance at the unconscious alpha on the bed and sighed. "I'm afraid it's going to take
Zayn's voice trailed off at the other end of the line, leaving a few seconds of silence before he asked his brother again with a hint of surprise in his tone. "You can still feel the bond between us?"Kodiak confirmed this, running his hand through his tousled hair with exhaustion. "Yes, the connection is faint, but it's still there."The Great Landmark was full of mysteries that could not be explained, one of which was the twin bond between their wolves. Kodiak and Zayn had grown up with a bond that was as strong as a mating bond, ever since they were young children. This bond had allowed Zayn to protect and heal his younger brother after their father died, but it had weakened over time when Zayn formed a mating bond with his former mate for the first time.“I didn't think you would be able to,” Zayn chuckled drily. “But if you visit me now, what will happen to your duel?”“I will return to the pack on time. Stay there and don't even think about running away.” Kodiak ended the call a
Anna couldn't believe how fast time had flown by. It was early dawn, and she was already pacing back and forth in her room, feeling anxious and restless. The sleepless nights had been getting worse ever since her mate left her alone in the house. As she started her morning exercise routine, she happened to glance at the calendar on the wall and realized that the duel was only three days away. Although the maids and guards had told her that he frequently asked about her well-being, she was still unsatisfied that he hadn't called her personally. She stopped in her tracks and looked at the wall clock, wondering if he was awake at this hour. She couldn't help but worry about him since no one knew Hunter's whereabouts which was why she had taken safety measures to protect herself and her baby by in the house despite her yearning to go outside. Anna couldn't hold back her anxious feelings any longer. She rushed to her bedside table and picked up her phone to dial her husband's number. Aft
Vivian sat on the bare floor of her room, amidst a pile of cardboard boxes. Her once beautiful face was now stained with tears that streamed down her cheeks, but she didn't let her emotions get in the way of her efficiency. With determined movements, she packed away her belongings, almost clearing the entire room in a short time.Ever since the day she broke up with Knox, the only man she had ever truly loved with all her heart, Vivian had secluded herself in her house, unable to face the outside world. She tried to bury her pain and suffering by cleaning the house and engaging in other activities, but nothing could ease the heartbreak she was going through right now.As she was about to stack the boxes she had gathered on top of one another, a sudden sound jolted her from her thoughts. The doorbell rang loudly, echoing throughout the living room. She wiped her tears and composed herself before coming out of the room to go and check who was at the door.Vivian was taken aback when she
