"I have to protect you!" He uttered as she flashed him a scowl.

"I feel responsible for your safety because I know your father would be quite upset if anything were to happen to you," Scott quickly amended, observing Fiona's smile.

"I apologize if that came across as overprotective. What I meant to say is that I genuinely care about your well-being, and it's important to me because I know your father values your safety and happiness. So, I want to make sure you're always looked after and protected." He smiled back at Fiona, hoping his clarification would put her at ease.
