Enraged Ruth

Her hands crackled with a dark lightning power that was both mesmerizing and terrifying.

Her eyes were an inky black and her hair billowed around her as if caught in a fierce wind.

If I hadn’t known her better I would have doubted anyone who claimed this was Ruth.

“WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING, MICHAEL?”

She took deliberate steps toward us her gaze locked onto Michael.

“ANSWER ME, MICHAEL”

With a forceful motion she struck his shoulder with a massive spark of electricity emanating from her hand.

I would be lying if I said it didn’t hurt him; being an Alpha usually provided with being more strong but if she had hit a mere Omega I feared the consequences could have been dire.

Michael grimaced clutching his shoulder tightly.

But Ruth wasn’t finished. She advanced toward us again.

I gazed at her in sheer horror.

I had never seen her like this before.

Who was this monster?

Could this truly be the woman I had called 'mom' all these years? It seemed impossible.

When she unleashed a wave of black aurora witch power upon Michael I lost my composure.

I recognized that power all too well.

It could seize control over one’s soul, mind, and body compelling them to perform malevolent acts against their will.

Fortunately I was there for my mate. Before I could let the situation escalate I touched Michael’s shoulder and quickly chanted healing spell then turned my attention back to my mother.

“HOW DARE YOU, MOM? YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU COULD HAVE DONE TO MY MATE.”

I didn’t finish my sentence; she interrupted me with a witchy chortle.

“HAHAHA YOUR MATE? LITTLE GIRL MICHAEL IS MINE. HE BELONGS TO ME AND ME ALONE, MY DEAR DAUGHTER.” Her voice had taken on a demonic timbre.

Michael responded, “NO RUTH. YOU LIED TO ME! YOU SAID YOU WERE MY MATE. I DON’T KNOW HOW YOU MANAGED IT BUT I HAVE FOUND MY TRUE MATE NOW. IF YOU EVER CARED FOR YOUR DAUGHTER, PLEASE CALM DOWN AND LET’S DISCUSS THIS.”

He winced in pain, still clutching his shoulder as my healing spell hadn’t been fully effective due to the chaotic circumstances.

Ruth fell silent for a moment, then erupted again.

“No! You kissed my daughter, and now you want to take her from me after all these years? No, I won’t calm down, Michael. How could she possibly be your mate? This wasn’t part of the plan. No! How did I overlook this? I followed everything to the letter.”

She began pacing back and forth, her hands clasped behind her back, ranting and gesturing animatedly.

Michael spoke with a calm resolve, “Ruth, it’s over now. Don’t do anything you’ll regret. You’ve already done enough to me. Yes, I forgive you even if I don’t understand your motives.”

“HAHAHA, you foolish Alpha, you—”

Before she could continue, Michael declared. “I, ALPHA MICHAEL ROGER OF THE BLACK MOON PACK, BANISH YOU FROM MY PACK AND DEMAND YOU STAY AWAY FROM US FOREVER.”

I was at a loss for words or actions.

My mother had crossed a line and though she had once been my support I couldn’t allow myself to be embroiled in this conflict.

I chose to stand by my mate.

She looked at me likely expecting my loyalty but I firmly stated, “NoMom, you brought this upon yourself. LEAVE NOW!”

In a flash, she sprinted towards Michael her fist charged with black aurora striking him across the face before dissipating into thin air.

“No!” I screamed as Michael collapsed, unconscious.

My heart sank.

How could my mother commit such a heinous act against me? Why couldn’t she accept that Michael was my true mate?

Deep within her dark heart she must have known that Michael was never really hers.

From the beginning, she had been aware that he would eventually find his mate yet she had chosen to pursue her twisted plan anyway.

Who was my real father? How had my mother conceived me while still involved with Michael? What had led her to choose him among all the Alphas?

These were questions only my mother could answer but I vowed to uncover the truth.

I knelt beside Michael.

Just then the door swung open to reveal Beta Jayden and Gamma David.

They rushed in and knelt beside their Alpha.

“Claire are you okay? What happened to Alpha’s face? I knew that witches would cause trouble.”

Beta Jayden exclaimed then sheepishly glanced at me.

“Uh it’s alright. Not all witches are good; some like my mother are certainly not.” I replied, determined to maintain my composure.

“Please help me get him to his room so I can tend to him properly. He won’t wake up anytime soon.” I added, looking at both of them earnestly.

They nodded in agreement and lifted Michael with ease.

Together, they hurried to the pack house entering his room and gently setting him down on the bed remaining at his side.

I understood their hesitance; my mother had deceived them and given that I was also a half-witch it all made a strange kind of sense.

Taking a shaky breath I approached Michael.

I began chanting my healing spells feeling warmth radiate from my hands. One hand rested on his face while the other pressed against his heart.

As I chanted his face began to glow with a yellow light and my hand over his heart illuminated in red.

Gradually his injuries healed and his heartbeat began to stabilize.

I knew my work was complete.

I glanced at Beta Jayden and Gamma David.

“Well, I’ve done all I can for now. Let’s hope he wakes within the next couple of days.”

They both nodded in agreement.

After stepping out of the room I decided to freshen up and rest.

'I’ll see you in the morning Michael.' I thought to myself.

Yet something was troubling me. I tossed and turned in bed.

I figured some fresh air might help clear my mind so I opened the window.

Thoughts raced through my mind like a marathon.

I had a mate I would never abandon.

My mother had tried to take Michael from me.

Knowing Ruth she wouldn’t give up without a fight.

But as long as I had my mate by my side I was determined to protect him from her.

With a deep exhale I settled back into bed and finally allowed myself to sleep.
