CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN: Mother’s Death

“You still wouldn’t give all that up? Why do you have to be so selfish?” I heard my dad say from the room I was in. My mum had warned me not to come out until she asked me to and I know it was because of the fight she was going to get into with my dad. It gets exhausting, I was tired of it all.

***10 minutes earlier***

“Stay in here baby. I need to have a talk with your dad.” My mum said as she sat me down.

“You mean fight?” I asked, holding her back and not wanting her to leave because the “talk” they usually have never ends well for my mum and she ends up getting bruises.

“No. We just want to talk, adult conversation.” She said. “Also, you’re going to be a big brother soon.” My mum added as she guided my hand down to her belly and just at that moment, I felt it kick.

“What was that?” I asked, confused and surprised.

“That is your sister, she likes you.” My mum answered referring to the kick the baby did when I touched her belly.

“I am having a sister?” I asked in excitement.
