***
It was already seven o’clock in the evening when the right wing’s chamber on the Sterling Manor was opened, there were barely any staff passing through that area which meant there was only a few people who would get in at such hour without the purpose of inviting any of the family member for dinner.
Vivianne “Vian” Marie Sterling had just finished her work for the day and she was beyond exhausted. She had a lot more to do that day than the usual due to the upcoming grand fashion event which required her attention. Working as a fashion and beauty editor in the high end industry had never been easy, she had to deal with an abundance of events at the same time and delivered results right on time so their rivals would not get ahold of the news or the coverage first.
At that moment there was nothing she wanted more than a warm bath and dinner served, her stomach had been grumbling since an hour ago. She walked straight to her bedroom to find it empty.
She wondered where her husband could be but was too tired to think further about it. Instead, she went straight to the bathroom and removed her clothes only to find the water in the bath had been prepared in advance.
She leaned in to touch it with the tip of her fingers and was surprised when she felt that it was still quite warm, almost borderline hot which meant it had only been poured very recently.
It must have been Adonis. Oh well, I guess I should just enjoy it now.
She put in her feet gently into the water, allowing herself to adjust with the temperature before submerging herself completely, leaving only her hair up in a bun since she did not feel like washing it that night. She touched the water and it felt slightly different. It was a bit more salty and the water was tinted in a soft milky shade which meant he must have added some bath salts earlier.
Vian thought it was quite considerate of him, she definitely needed to thank him for it later. In the meantime, she just wanted to close her eyes and relaxed for a bit. She always loved taking baths, something about it just put her in a serene state of mind. She lathered her body with some calming chamomile liquid soap and allowed the scent to fill in the entire room. It was almost like an aroma therapy.
A few minutes in she heard the door twisted open. She did not have to turn her head to know who it was. His footsteps approached her and stopped in the middle. At that point in her life she was not even embarrassed anymore, it was not as if there was anything that he had not seen. She just casually turned her head over to him and raised her eyebrow. There was a moment of awkward silence between the two of them as they stared into each other’s eyes.
“Ana, you’re back already. I hope you enjoy the bath I prepared for you. I added some of your favorite bath salts. Also, I have made some warm tea for the two of us later. I have also cooked dinner for us, I made your favorite sweet and sour fish and mushroom.” She did not know what kind of response she was supposed to give him, she remained indifferent and it was starting to make him feel like an idiot, just standing there in silence.
“I will wait until you are done with your bath, I’ll be in the dining room.” He was about to leave when she finally opened up her lips and told him to wait.
“Have you taken a bath or shower yet?” She asked. He paused for a moment before shaking his head. She sighed in response, contemplating for a moment the decision she was about to make.
“Okay, why don’t you join me right now? This tub is large enough for the two of us. You can soak yourself on the other side.” Once he heard that his eyes lit up a bit. He did not know if it was because he prepared her bath or because he cooked dinner but she had shown him a slight softness which he had not felt in a while. He did not even think twice before he took off his shirt and pants, revealing his muscular figure which Vian secretly always admired.
It was almost like a bittersweet feeling for her because at one side she bore absolutely no love for him beyond his physics. Yes, the man was extremely handsome and fit, but he was also the thorns on her flesh. He had no real skills or talents, as far as she knew off that was worthy enough for the family.
The man had always been an embarrassment to her each time she had to bring him to the others. Still when they were alone like that, she did feel a bit of tenderness for him because she knew he was not a bad person. He was just useless, but not a bad man.
He slowly got into the water and sat on the opposite side of her. The tub was made to mimic the Turkish Hammam bath, so it could fit around two or three people at once, allowing some space for her to breath a bit even when he was in the water with her.
Once he was in, he took a bit of soap and lathered himself, she was also busy with herself and then he noticed that she could not properly lather the soap on her back.
“Vian, do you want me to help with your back?” He offered. She thought about it for a bit then nodded. He leaned in closer as she turned herself around, showing her slick back. He carefully poured a bit of soap in his hand and rubbed it against her skin in a gentle motion, almost giving her a bit of a massage at the same time.
She let out a small sigh as she enjoyed the sensation. He loved it when he felt like he could be in service of her, her approval made him wanted to please her even further, so he started to move a bit lower and massaged her spine area as well. She was starting to feel slightly roused and he could tell it from her hardening nipples.
“May I?” he asked her as he kissed her shoulder, she nodded and he started to explore her body even more. It was one of the few moments in life where he felt like he was useful. At the same time it also robbed him of his pride a bit because he knew deep down it was the only thing he could do to make her happy at the moment due to his circumstance.
He felt like a dusty man, who could offer nothing but sex, but deep down Adonis did have a desire to please her, to make her happy, hence why he always made sure she had an orgasm each time they had sex, but when the passion dissipated, reality always hit him back, reminding him that he had nothing much to help her.
"That was nice, thank you, Adonis." She thanked. He smiled back in return.
"It's the least I can do for you, Vian."
"Yes, it is."
Once they were done with their baths, both of them headed to the dining room and despite what had happened, she still remained cold toward him. Refusing to look at him in the eyes each time he spoke because she could not bear the reality of her marriage.
He had to be understanding of it, because it was never any of her wishes to be with him to begin with, he gained more from the marriage than her, making him unable to complain.
As they were eating, Adonis did not know why he thought he should tell her about his rejected proposal. He felt shy as he admitted his failure, it hurt his ego a bit but he had also mentioned it briefly to her before.
When she heard it, she was not even surprised, she did not even show any kind of emotions or at least it was her way of concealing her disappointment. Out of all the family members, Vian was rather prudent with her words, for her it was better to remain silent than to speak hurtful words. Still, everything was clear from her gestures and body movement.
"Tell me, Vian, how was your day?" He attempted to inituate a conversation.
"I was busy, like usual. Making money."
"Ah, I see." It was so awkard and he felt ashamed of himself because he was unable to be the breadwinner of the house. She did not even bother to ask him how he was because she knew all he did all day was staying home.
Adonis bit his tongue a bit as he took another bite of the meal. He finished it first and stood up, excusing himself to return to the bedroom and buried his face on the pillow. Drowning himself in a brief moment of self-pity until he fell asleep.

I want to make sure all the preparations go as I asked. Don't try to alter anything without my permission, do you understand?" Vian went back and forth on her phone between different calls with the event organizer whom they had assigned to take care of the family party. It was their annual family gathering that was held at the end of the year. It was a mix celebration for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Because her family was a prestigious family in the city, they always became the party host each year. Besides family member, there would also be a few close family friends and some whale business partners invited. Of course, if they could kill three birds with one stone they would definitely do it. They were after all, the Sterling. Their family history had alway
"The little things? The little moments? They aren't little."-Jon Kabat Zinn-***It was the day of the family gathering, Vian was preparing herself for the party since early in the morning, she had reconfirmed everything to the event organizer and knew it was all perfect and ready. The first thing on her plan that day was heading to the salon, she needed to get her hair done and she also needed to do some quick skin treatment to make sure she was glowing for the evening. She could have done her makeup on her own so that was not a necessary part but she also needed to head over to the boutique to pick up her custom made gown for the day. It was fair to say her day would be extremely busy. She could not do everything on her own so she made sure Adonis came to tag along with her. He was the one driving since she had to hold her phone quite a lot that morning. The whole ride was pretty quiet, she paid not much attention to hi
"Unhealthy families discourage individual expression. Everyone must conform to the thoughts and actions of the toxic parents. They promote fusion, a blurring of personal boundaries, a welding together of family members. On an unconscious level, it is hard for family members to know when one ends and another begins. In their effort to be close, they often suffocate one another's individuality."-Susan Forward-***Since Vian was the person responsible for the party, she was also the one welcoming the guests as they arrived. Although the guest was her own family members, sometimes she felt a bit alien whenever she was among them. Yes, she was raised with the same kind of lifestyle they had, good education, never lacked any comfort or privileges most common people would not have, she still felt out of place sometimes because of her mother’s humble background. The previous years she had tried to stay away from the spotlight for the sa
"It's a feeling without a lid, of what you would do, physically, verbally, to protect the one thing that is your greatest love."-Lena Headey-***Adonis barged into the restroom to calm himself down a bit. All the insults which had been thrown at him in the past hour was too much. He had no idea why they hated him so much, he had never done anything wrong or bad to them yet somehow they always treated him like he was not even a human being. Was it because he was poor? Don’t poor people deserve even the slightest bit of respect and human decency? Why were they so cruel? He knew it was useless to question it because it would not change anything. That family was one of the worst he had ever seen. Prior to meeting them he had never believed that some wealthy people were arrogant bunch because the ones he had known before were all very kind and humble. Sometimes he would question himself on why he even got into the family. He s
"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of others."-Charles Dickens-***Once they had arrived home, the first thing Vian did was to turn on all the lamp and rushed into the bathroom to take the first aid kit. She knew it might have been too long for her to start mending on his wound but she thought it was better than nothing. She pulled the drawer and took the box out of the shelf and brought it to their bedroom.Adonis was seated on the edge of their bed when she returned, he had taken off his suit and changed into a casual t-shirt and shorts for bed instead. His eyes were staring at the full length mirror right across him and saw the bruises on his lips and cheek from Carson’s punch earlier. He did not like how it looked because he knew they would only darken overtime, maybe turned a bit green and odd looking, but there was also a part in him that felt a bit proud of the bruise because it was a
"There are no wrong turns, only unexpected paths,"-Mark Nepo-***He had just sent more resumes and CV to different companies and thought of making himself a lunch. Apparently the whole family members really did not want to have anything to do with their family because they even placed a separate kitchen and dining room, but for Adonis this was an advantage because he could do everything he wanted in peace without any disturbance from the others.Every day Adonis would prepare the breakfast, lunch and dinner for him and Vian. The household had some staffs to clean up their place but occasionally he would also clean up the place here and there. It had become his habit for almost a year. Besides, he would also schedule his day and that day his schedule was pretty darn empty. He thought of spending the day going out to the market to shop for groceries. Yes, he could have just asked one of the staff to do it for him but he mu
"Everything can change at any moment, suddenly and forever."-Paul Auster-***There was a time when Adonis thought he was born to struggle forever, yet it all changed in a snap of an eye. He slowly drove his car to the restaurant where he would meet the man who claimed he knew of his father. He did not wish to put so much expectation in just yet for he did not wish to be disappointed but he did have a bit of faith within him that told him to continue driving.Once he arrived he mentioned the man’s name to the staff and she led him right through the caller man. He had booked a quiet spot in the corner just for the two of them, where no one could disturb their lunch. For the first time ever he met the mysterious caller that made him lose his sleep. The man appeared to be in his sixties, with trimmed white beard and hair all over. His skin was wrinkly all over as proof of his life maturity. He wore a well-tailored black suit
"All discarded lovers should be given a second chance, but with somebody else."-Mae West-***Vivianne arrived at work that day and she was immediately greeted by the receptionist who had informed her that she received a gift that day from a mysterious sender. She walked over to the desk and the woman handed her over a box and a bouquet of pink and white tulip which was one of her favorite flower. She looked a bit confused, who could possibly send her that kind of gift, she already knew it could not possibly come from Adonis. That man barely gifted her anything before just because of his financial situation. She brought it back to her office desk and checked the card which came along with it which wrote, ‘for my dear Vivianne, I love you.’ She had no idea who sent it because there was no sender’s name. Opening up the gift, she found a velvet jewelry box with an Italian private jewelry brand embossed on it. She
"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we'll ever do."-Brene Brown-***It had been been over a year since Vian and Adonis’ honeymoon trip. Two months after the trip Vian was tested positive and right during Fall season of the year she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who was given the name Davina Rose Earlington since she was gentle and soft like rose petals. The couple had been busy taking care of their baby and balancing it with work as well. So many life changings event occurred during the year. Besides the birth of the heiress, Vian also launched her eye-wear brands for the first time.Within a year they had opened up three boutiques, one was in New York, the second one was in Los Angeles and the third one was in Houston where she resided. Of course, her products were also sold on online websites and she used modern marketing tactic of endorsing influencers to promote
"A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in."-Robert Orben-***It was the end of November and the weather was getting colder in the States as winter arrived. It was almost Christmas time and everyone was excited to enjoy the snow and the cold weather, but not with Adonis and Vian. Instead of allowing themselves to adjust to the cold weather, they decided to head over to the other side of the world where summer never ended. After picking through a few tourist destinations they decided to settle for St. Barts in the Caribbean. Instead of covering themselves in thick winter coats, they were dressed in light, flowy summer clothing. As he had promised before, Adonis took the time off he had throughout December to bring Vian there as a way to compensate for their past honeymoon. They had never experienced an exclusive honeymoon before so he would ensure to give her the best experience throughout the one week they plan
"Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends and family belong and laughter never ends."-Unknown-***He led her to the garden on the back of the house. From the front one could not see the garden since it was so closed off so it could only be accessed from within the house, but the garden was so large and despite its enormous size, everything was well-arranged even after the late Eduardus Earlington’s death which spoke a lot about the maintenance practices of the house. Vian gasped as she entered it for the first time.It was clear the garden was inspired by European style gardens inside the castles. There were varieties of flowers planted on almost every corner which meant the previous owner was a huge fan of flowers. Most of them were white florals but there were a few varieties of roses as well. On each sides were lines of different fruit trees. There was some lemons and oranges, figs, peaches, apples and
"And suddenly you just know, it's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings."-Meister Eckhart-***It had been a little over a week since the announcement and Vian was preparing herself to move to the Earlington estate. She had never visited the place before and to think she would reside there from then on was simply beyond her. She had grown up in luxury so she was sure she would not be too surprised by any luxury the place had to offer, but she simply wondered how would it differ from her home.In most countries, when married it is the norm for wife to follow the husband but since she lived in the western society, things had been a bit different, perhaps for the worse because all the casual aspects in relationships were glorified. Plenty had lost respect for marriage which was truly a shame, but she was happy she was married to someone like Adonis, even though she had not found out his real identity until l
"Nobody deserves misery, but sometimes it's just your turn."-Unknown-***“Allow me to introduce myself properly, my name is Adonis Ravenwood Earlington, the son of Eduardus Richard Earlington.” He started. His air was slightly different from the usual Adonis, as if he had just transformed or leveled up in a game. He became a lot more charismatic.Upon the mention of the Earlington, suddenly the other members of the family gasped in shock except for Vian who did not really know who the man was, as she was never properly socialized with too much with their business networks. Yes, since she was young she was often excluded from the networking part of the family as they felt humiliated if the child was to make acquaintance with the elites. She remained silent as she did not wish to embarrass herself by lacking the knowledge to figure out who the man was but judging from the reaction of the other family members, h

They sat frozen in their seat as they had just witnessed two shocking things happening within the room, but little did they know it was not everything.Vian was still by Adonis side after he was shot. Warm tears started pouring from her pretty eyes as she saw him laid there uncons

They still refused to believe that Vian had become the leader of the household, considering her young age and ordinary family background, it was unlikely that she was the one chosen. The probability was so low that not even her parents were present."Once again, it is the decision of the late Madame Sterling. There is nothing I can do about it." The lawyer calmly said hoping he could just get out of there as soon as possible. The longer he stayed there the more chaos there would be.He faced Vian and handed her over a few documents she needed to sign as an official mark of her being the inheritor of the family fortune. Vian looked a bit hesitant at first since she herself still could not believe it but in the end, she grabbed a pen and sign
"Surprise is the greatest gift which life can grant us."-Boris Pasternak-***Everyone gathered around for Greta Sterling’s funeral. Of course, it was all mere formality and staged since no one actually cared for the old woman. It might not be shown straight to the face, but everyone secretly despised her. When she died, they all put fake facades, crying their fake tears and pretended to be good family members, but they were all just gazing each other as if they were staring at their enemies instead of family. The priest was speaking in the podium reading a few holy passages about how her soul would eventually be in heaven with the angels and all of her good deeds would be accepted by God and her legacy would forever be remembered by those around her when in reality everyone knew she was going to hell for all the pain she had inflicted upon others, not to mention all the underground dirty works she had invested in which de

It was supposed to be Greta’s last day at the hospital because the doctor told everyone her health was becoming better and she could go home.Life in hospital was incredibly boring because all a patient could do was to lie down on the bed and did absolutely nothing. Even with company around it could still end up being incredibly boring and the old woman felt the same way even though her first son and daughter in law, better known as Cynthia’s parents were accompanying her simply because they wanted to gain back her favor after their daughter did the unforgivable.Since Greta had disowned Cynthia, she also had somew
