She stood, handing change and a bag of treats to a customer. She was so focused that she didn’t notice who walked in, but he sure as hell noticed her. He stood at the line stealing glances at her, and to him she was the most beautiful girl he had ever met.
“Good morning, what can I get you?” she smiled, asking the next customer. She couldn’t help but take in the small features of his face. The short dark hair, captivating hazel green eyes, the freckles scattered on his nose and cheeks. In all, he was simply gorgeous. When he didn’t respond, she called out louder “uhm sir” shaking him out of his day dream. “Oh yeah, can I have a chocolate mocha cupcake and a coffee to go please?” he asked, flashing her his infamous cheeky grin. “That will be $4.64 please” she smiled. He place a five on the counter, she turned and reached into the show glass and grabbed a chocolate mocha cake. Placing into a small box, and grabbed a cup of coffee. “Here is your change” she dropped it on his palm ‘thank you and have a nice day” He turned to leave and she released a breath. She was getting ready to attend to the next customer when he turned back towards her. “Hey, can I actually get another mocha cupcake?” he asked, a small smile forming on his face. “Uhm sure,” she replied, confused. She grabbed another cupcake and boxed it, before she could hand it to him, he stopped her. “Is there any way I could add a date to the tab?” he asked, with a smirk. Her eyes widened at his tone, before it morphed into a frown. “If it wasn’t obvious enough sir, I’m not for sale. Your money is $2.08.” She glared at him, not caring that he was a customer. His face fell “Does that mean you’re taken?” he asked “No,it means that I’m not for sale” she snapped “Now if you don’t mind sir, you’re holding up the line". she added. He placed the money on the counter, and told her to keep the change. He glanced at her name tag “thank you for your time Brooklyn". He gave her a small before he turned, and walked out of the shop. Basically, it was the most impressive cake she had made so far and in such a short notice too. She had started with a perfect tiered cake and then used the movie poster for inspiration as she decorated the layers, creating mind blowing scenes with sugar and icing. They’re many bakers in the world who would find making a cake both elegant and captivating almost impossible to achieve, but Brooklyn, she sure as hell managed to nail it. The cake was basically her gateway to get more work for even months or years. She wore her favorite dress for luck, a knee length flowery dress that compliments her red hair, and she paired it with a black pom. She paid one of her workers overtime to help transport the cake to the venue, since she didn’t have money for a full-time delivery man and she didn’t have a car herself. Traffic was so horrible that she ended up reaching the venue thirty-five minutes late and she went straight into panic mode. Her stomach was basically in knots as she and jack grabbed the pieces of cake and dashed inside. She wasn’t sure what scared her the most, the possibility of running into Brian, or the possibility of messing everything up. Don’t think about him, she scolded herself. Besides, the party doesn’t officially start for another hour and she would definitely be out before then. The ballroom was in chaos when they walked in, people were rushing around trying to get everything set for the party. The place looked spectacular. Draped in silver and blue and shimmery taupe, and with ruins that managed to evoke the setting of the movie and look beautiful at the same time. They were directed to the far end of the room where the large table set aside for the cake was located. She glanced around for Tegan, but saw no sign of him. “Start assembling” she told jack “I’ll go get the rest” Shifting into business mode, she thought through her plan for getting all the decoration on the cake quickly. She grabbed the decorations from the van and returned inside. On the way back to meet jack, she decided to swing by a kitchen or bathroom and get some water in case her sugar paste pieces decide to break in the process of assembling. She didn’t know her way around the place obviously, but it shouldn’t be hard to find a sink, or so she thought. She set off quickly down a hallway to the right, away from the main ballroom. Normally, she would stop and ask someone for directions, but everyone was so busy and she didn’t want to be a bother. She pushed open a few doors but most of them were just storage rooms. How on earth was it so hard to find a bathroom? She asked herself. She glanced down at her watch, twenty minutes until the party. She was thinking of forgetting the water and heading back when she heard voices. Good, finally someone who could point her to the right direction. She followed the voices down the hall to a door that was slightly ajar. Her arms were occupied with decorations, so instead of knocking, she nudged the door with her hips. If she knew what she was about of see, maybe she wouldn’t have. She didn’t stumble across a staff like she thought she would, she stumbled across a couple with their tongue deep into each other’s throat. The man was sitting on a chair while the lady straddled him with her gown pushed up around her hips as she threw her head back and writhed against him. His hand gripped her waist as she quickened the undulations of her body, and a moan escaped her lips. She stood there stunned, unable to move even though she knew she probably should, but her feet were rooted to the floor. The lady tilted her head a little further back and a gasp escaped Brooklyn’s lips as she realized that it was Brianna stars, the leading star actress in the movie. She couldn’t believe that she just walked in on Jason and Brianna going at it in the room. But as Brianna shifted again, Brooklyn’s body suddenly went cold as she caught a glimpse of the man, and it definitely wasn’t Jason Kamryn. Brianna stars was having an affair with her fiancé’s brother. Some of the decorations slipped from her hands and crashed on the floor, causing the couple to freeze. Brianna’s head jerked around, her face filled with the embarrassment of getting caught. Brian’s gaze locked on hers, his expression was that of annoyance until he recognized her. She quickly grabbed the decorations from the floor and dashed out of the room. She was still in shock, her whole body shook as she dashed down the hall, and she couldn’t stop replaying what she just saw in her head. Four years ago, he was basically everything to her. She did things for that man that she couldn’t do for anyone else, and the fact that her body responded to him so bad was just the icing on the cake. And it still does, and that was what scared her the most. She was afraid of running into him, but that was far worse than anything she could’ve imagined. She couldn’t stop hearing her moans, and his heavy breathing as their body moved in sync. She wasn’t sure if she was falling apart because he was sleeping with his brother’s wife, or because she just saw her Brian with another woman. She was so scared that it could be the latter. Jack frowned when he saw her all shaken up “what’s wrong boss?” then his eyes dropped to the decorations “fuck, what happened?” “They fell” she replied as she dropped them on the table. “Is anything salvageable?” he asked as he scanned the decorations for unbroken pieces. She forced herself to take a deep breath, as she reminded herself that she still had a job to do and she wasn’t going to sabotage this opportunity just because she walked into something she shouldn’t have. “We’ll find a way around it” she said, going into full work mode. And they did. They found some unbroken pieces and stuck the rest with royal icing. She always made extra pieces of décor, so that helped too. It surely wasn’t how she envisaged the cake to be, but it was still pretty damn good. “Looks pretty good” a familiar voice whispered behind her. She smiled and turned towards him “I’m almost done” she said. “They’re going to love it” he reassured her, his eyes flickered from the cake to her face “why do you have that look on you face Brooklyn? Seriously, the cake is awesome” She tried to force a smile. “What’s wrong brook? Why are you all shaken up?” he asked. She looked around, jack was on the other side, arranging some décor on the cake. She went closer to Tegan, so only he could hear “I saw him” she whispered. Jack’s eyes widened “I’m so sorry brook, I thought he wasn’t going to show up” “It’s okay, you didn’t know” she waved him off. “I saw Brianna too though, and they were in a very compromising position” It took a while for that to sink in “you mean like….” “Compromising position” she repeated “of course they were fucking” “Shit” he whispered yelled “how? Where? Damn, what did you do?” “I dropped the decorations” “Wait, did they notice you?” She nodded clearly embarrassed, she wanted to die of humiliation. “Well,” he urged “what did he say? Did he recognize you?” “I think he did, I’m not sure “she shrugged “didn’t wait to confirm” “Shit” he repeated “do you need a drink?” She shook her head “no, I just want to finish decorating this cake and get the fuck out of here” “I understand” he checked his watch “shoot, I need to meet up with my boss, call me okay?” She simply nodded. No matter how she tried to focus, she couldn’t get him out of her mind. It was wrong how much it hurt, how much she felt betrayed, some very pathetic feelings it seemed. She was supposed to hate him and resent him. But in the end, he still had that overwhelming effect on her. Maybe the incident was Gods way of telling to that whatever she was feeling was a lost cause and that she should get on with her life. Even though her personal devil will forever have his claws In her, she had to suck it up and complete the task at hand, and that she did.She felt like she just got off a rollercoaster when she got home, the day’s work definitely took a toll on her. She took off her sneakers and closed the door, her mind still reeling from the incident that happened earlier on. She walked into the kitchen to fine her cousin, Mira preparing what appeared to be tacos for dinner. One of her favorites. “Hey couz, how was work?” Mira asked her. “It was okay” she shrugged. Mira gave her an unimpressed look “really? Is that all you’re going to give me?” She sighed “look Mia, I’m really tired okay? I’ll give you the details later”“Sooo, why don’t you go up, freshen up, and then we’ll discuss over dinner okay?” She simply nodded and exited the kitchen, heading to her room.
She ignored him “blueberry is also a nice option too, or do you prefer strawberry or butterscotch? And maybe fondant on the outside? It has a great look” He was about to say something, but he was interrupted by the blaring of his phone. He fished the phone out of his pocket and answered it. “What?” he asked gruffly. “I’m in a very important meeting” She snorted. "Just postpone the meeting” he said “I’m occupied at the moment, and please no more of those damn press tours” She was curious about the phone call. Was it his personal assistant? Secretory? She thought. Even when they were in a relationship, Brian had always been really private. “Just twice a week,” he said, frowning “I can’t promise you more than that...Sure” He ended the call and shoved his phone back in his pocket.
Cutting the engine, he unfastened their seatbelts and they got out of the car. “It wasn’t just the nice car” she sobbed, “He was just good at everything, nice hair, nice smile, nice big di-““Okay, that’s enough” He picked the key from beneath the porch plant. Once he opened the door, she walked inside. “Where’s your cousin?” he asked her “Her boyfriend’s house I guess” she stood by the door. “Should I stay over?”“Nope, you have stuffs to do” she waved him off “don’t worry, I’ll be fine”“Goodnight”“Good night best friend” she muttered as she slammed the door on his face. She was on her way to the living room when she slipped. The last thing she heard before submerging into darkness was the sound of shoes running towards h
Staying at the hospital was like hell to Brooklyn, she had only been there for like two days, and it already felt like forever. She was just glad that she was going to be discharged today, that was what the doctor said anyway. Tegan came in as early as seven in the morning with chocolates and flowers, apologizing for not visiting her sooner. He stayed with her till twelve pm before he dashed out, promising to be back an hour before her check out. Dr. James hadn’t visited her since last night, and it was almost time for her to go home. She stayed in the room waiting for Tegan, who was downstairs, taking care of the bills. She almost leaped off the bed when Dr.james walked in with Tegan, and they seemed to be in a serious conversation. “Hello Brooklyn,” he greeted her “I can see that you’re ready to leave” “Yes” she smiled. &nbs
They weren’t interested in making out just to prove a point, at least she wasn’t. They both agreed to just do the simple things like, hold hands, hook arms, a kiss on the cheek. It’s not like anyone would expect them to shove their tongue down each other’s throat just because they were dating. “You ready brook?” Tegan asked her, his voice filled with excitement.“Let’s get this over with “she muttered. It took her approximately four hours to decide on what to wear. She ended up with a deep green cocktail dress and Tegan dressed to kill. She was sure he probably spent the same hours she did to pick out what to wear, the connection in the party can really boost his career. They both agreed that there was certainly no need to lie about his career or anything else, apart from the fact that they were dating of course. The few
“Anyways, why aren’t you at your party?” “Because, I don’t really care about parties".he shrugged.“Why did you throw one then?” she asked, and he took a step towards her.“Once in a while you need to throw one, it is kind of a necessity".She rolled her eyes.“Wow, it must be really had” she said “just in case you didn’t notice, I was being sarcastic". He laughed. It was rich and deep, just as she remembered.“You haven’t changed you know” he said, taking another step towards her. He was much closer now, and the fact that she was alone with him made her even more tense. Her stomach were literally in knots.“It is getting really cold out here,” she said, wrapping her arms round herself to make it more believable “I think I’m going to head back inside".
Brian adjusted beside her. She wanted the truth, and she was surely going to get it. “Brooklyn stop acting ignorant, you damn well know the reason I invited you here”“And that is?”“To see you of course” he answered, placing her hands in his. He slowly brought it to his lip, and kissed it. She knew that giving in to this would only push her deep into whatever was going on between them. Her anger for him was still there, but yet she was reluctant to pull away. She felt herself leaning into him.“Brooklyn! Are you out here?” Tegan’s voice pulled her out of whatever spell she had been on, and she quickly pulled away. She shifted away from him and scrambled to get up, but sits back due to the pain in her ankle.“Brook?” Tegan called again, as he walked towards the porch stairs, leading to the beach.&ld
After the second ring, her phone dinged, indicating a new message.Kamryn : why aren’t you picking my calls? Kamryn: is everything alright? Kamryn: I’m on my way. She groaned when she read the last message, exactly what she was trying to avoid. Brian was on his way to her house, he was going to see her bed reddened, and he was going to make a big fuss about. Just great. She threw her phone on the other side of the bed just when Tegan walked in.“Hey, what got you panties in a twist?” he asked as he sat beside her.“Brian is on his way”
She had taken the time to curl her hair, which normally she refused to do because of how stubborn her hair was."So," she started, as she turned back to the window. "What made you choose this place to live? The view is really beautiful.""It's really private I guess," he said. His free hand slipped around her hip, stroking it. The gesture made her feel things that she hadn't felt in a while. "Plus, I bought it from a friend, so I didn't need to go house hunting." She chuckled, "oh I know. That's the reason I didn't object when Mira found our house, we bought it quickly. It's really hard to find a place, and when you do, the rent would be outrageous.""So,you are a house owner huh?""It's a joint ownership, we split the bill." He simply nodded, and she stuck her tongue out at him jokingly. He placed a kiss on her forehead, taking her off guard, with a look of admiration."You are so responsible and put together, I find that very sexy," he smiled at her. She laughed, snorting unco
The morning walk of shame had never been the best part, especially when you wake up with a massive hangover, a result of the previous night recklessness. She woke up with a groan, Tegan was still fast asleep beside her. She got up quickly, dressed up and exited the room quietly, careful not to wake her one night stand up. Walking into the house twenty minutes later, she didn't expect Brooklyn to be eagerly waiting for her, nursing a cup of coffee."Walk of shame huh? Classic," Brooklyn chuckled. Mira gasped, clearly startled. She laughed at her expense, as she gestured to the coffee pot, "there's still some in there if you want, I'm sure you were up all night."Mira groaned, making Brooklyn burst into another fit of laughter. "As much as I want to stay here and banter words with you, I really need to take some aspirin, a shower, and that fucken coffee.""Yeah, I definitely took that too. We really outdid ourselves last night huh?" She followed her to the kitchen. "So, how was last n
Brooklyn laid in bed, mad at the fact that everyone thought that she was too pathetic to get over him... But in truth, she was on the path to. Did she still have feelings for him? Yeah, feelings don't just go overnight. But she already chose Aaron, because she liked him a lot too. Why couldn't they just understand that? Speaking of Aaron, her phone dinged, indicating a new message, and it was from him.Aaron: hey beautiful, what are you doing?Brook: nothing at the moment, why?Aaron: can you come over? I want to treat you to a nice dinner, and maybe a movie afterwards?Brook: so sorry babe, I'm going out with Mira today. Rain check?Aaron: that will be next week then, where are y'all going to though?Brook: knister club. Just need some girl time with Mira.Aaron: I understand sweetheart, have fun okay? Brook: okay Boo. It was almost eight pm, and she needed to start preparing. She was still mad at Mira and Tegan, but she was going to tr
"You are home late," Mira said, startling Brooklyn."Oh shit," she yelled. "You scared the shit out of me Mira, why are you up ?" "Couldn't sleep," she shrugged, " where did you go to though? It's pretty late."She raised a brow. "How did you know that i was out?""I was on my way to the kitchen to get some milk, and then I noticed that my car key was gone from the counter. So where did you go? It's pretty late." She rubbed her arms nervously." Well I had to head out for some minutes. ""Oh? To where?"she asked. And when she noticed the discomfort on her cousin's face, she became worried. " is everything alright Brooklyn?"Brooklyn knew that she couldn't hide anything from her cousin,so she decided to tell her. With a sigh, she moved to the couch and sat beside her. "Truthfully? Well, I went to see Brian." Mira shook her head and sighed." Brook, you know -" "I know, I know," she snapped at her, and then sighed, "it's not what you think, nothing like that happened." With a knowing
Brooklyn hurriedly changed out her pajamas, and into skinny jeans and a hoodie... Throughout, the message kept replaying in her mind. Brian: you have some explaining to do. Aren't you supposed to be in a relationship with Tegan? Funny seeing you with a potential boyfriend. Brian: Are you snubbing me? The next message was a picture of Tegan conversing with his boss and a message was attached to the picture. Brian: I found out yesterday that he works for my Manager, it will be really sad for him to accidentally loose his job wouldn't it? Come see me Brooklyn, you have my address. With anger evident on her face, she headed downstairs. She quickly grabbed Mira's car key from the key holder. She didn't have a car just yet, but she made a mental note to get one... She had enough money to get one anyways. Fifteen minutes later, she was driving into Brian's massive gate. She spotted Brian at the front door as she got out of the car. She felt like punching him so hard
"Hey Brooklyn" he greeted, once he was at their table. "Fancy seeing you here.""Well like the say, all work and no play makes you dull" she answered with a strained laugh. Aaron sat there, watching them. There was definitely something about the new guy that made her nervous, who was he?He nodded, and then his eyes drifted to Aaron, "aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?""Potential boyfriend actually" Aaron interfered, cutting Brooklyn off. He stretched out his right hand. "My name is Aaron, and you are?"He simply stared at Aaron outstretched hand. After a while, he replied "Brian Kamryn" ignoring his hand. Aaron slowly withdrew his hands, clearly embarrassed. He had heard about the famous business tycoon, Brian Kamryn. But that didn't give him the right to be downright rude and arrogant... He was a hotshot doctor too."So what are you two doing here?" He asked, his eyes trained on her. Okay so she definitely knew that he was trying to get a rile out of her. She wasn't
"We're out of pompom special" Gerald yelled, making her look away from her phone. Since she got to the bakery, her eyes had been on her phone, Chatting with Aaron."Brooklyn" Peggy groaned, "concentrate and stop being distracted." "Okay okay, I'll put the phone away." She laughed, as she tucked her phone into the back of her pocket."The pompoms are have probably cooled down by on, I'll go arrange them in the show glass." When she was done with the arrangement, she was about to head back to the kitchen when she heard her phone ring. With a smile, she picked it up knowing exactly who it was. "Hey doc." She smiled."Hey patisserie" he greeted, "what are you doing?""Well nothing new, just baking and stuffs, how about you?""Well I just got off from work" he answered, "and I'm on my way to this cute bakery." She chuckled. "Oh yeah, what on earth are you going there for?""You see there's this cute baker, and i want to surprise her."She laughed. "Well she won't be surprised anymo
It was already mid afternoon when Brooklyn sauntered downstairs, still in her pajamas, to brew a pot of coffee. Reaching into the fridge, she grabbed the milk and poured some into her bowl of cereal. When she was done, she dropped the bowl in the sink, and moved grab a mug to pour some coffee when Mira walked into the kitchen."You slept in today? Shocking" she chuckled as she walked towards the fridge. She groaned. "I know right, so unlike me" she took a sip of her coffee. "Well look on the bright side, I'm well rested for my outing tonight, and I won't be looking like a fucken zombie."Thank God for that." She chuckled. "So, when is sexy doc coming to pick you up?""5pm I think.""I still haven't given him the talk though."She laughed. "Calm down mummy, he's not even my boyfriend and you want to start scaring him off?""Might as well know if he's worth it or not ." she shrugged."Well if things go well, he'll be over very often." She winked."But really though, I'm happy that you
The weekends were always the busiest. Weekends are none for relaxation and so, the bakery was always filled with sugar hungry customers, ready to be served. She removed the last set of spring rolls, leaving them to cool. On her way to deposit freshly baked pompom special in the show glass, her began to ring...it was Aaron. Ever since the decided to get to know each other better, they had been sitting out more often, she had concluded that Aaron was literally the sweetest person ever. He took out time from work to call her, spend time with her and also gift her flowers once in a while. In all, it had been really nice, he made her feel special....it made her hopeful that they could work, maybe he could actually make her fall in love with him, and out of love with Brian. She place the tray on the counter, and answered the call. "Hey you.""Hey, how's my favorite baker doing?""Extremely tired, but I'm hanging in there. What about you though? Aren't you supposed to be working?""I am ac
