Lila's pov

I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. The long, flowing red dress I wore stuck to my body, hugging every curve. The dress sparkled like tiny stars along with jewels on my necklace.

My hair was styled in soft waves that framed my face. Everything was flawless, put on by an expensive stylist Alex had insisted on hiring.

To anyone who looked at me, I probably looked beautiful. But as I looked into my own eyes in the mirror, I didn’t see the woman I once was. I saw someone trapped. Someone who was the faint outline of the person I used to be.

It felt like I was Alex's puppet now, like a ghost wandering through my own life.

My mind drifted back to the fight few weeks ago when Alex had disappeared without a word. I remembered the perfume he’d come home smelling of—it wasn’t mine.

The scent clung to him like a stain I couldn’t ignore. It didn’t belong to me. It belonged to someone else, and that thought had been a slow, twisting knife in my chest

Lila's pov The limo came to a slow stop, and Alex extended his hand to me. I hesitated for a brief moment before slipping my hand into his. His grip was firm, as if to remind me who was in control. With a forced smile on my face, I stepped out of the car, immediately I was greeted by a camera flashes from the paparazzi. The paparazzi swarmed us like vultures. Bright flashes from their cameras went off everywhere making my head spin. I blinked over and over, trying not to lose focus. The noise was overwhelming—shouts of “Hyperion! Over here!” was mixed with the sharp crackle of cameras . It was suffocating. And the memory of that disastrous interview kept flashing in my mind. The one where I had fainted in front of everyone once before, and for a second, I thought it might happen again. Before I could gather myself, Alex put his arm around my waist. His touch made my skin crawl, but I didn’t pull away.I didn’t want to give him—or anyone else—an excuse to get suspicious. Ins

Lila's pov We moved through the crowd of reporters, until finally, we reached the grand entrance of the gala. The doors opened, revealing a scene straight out of a fairy tale. The room was massive, glittering with golden chandeliers that hung like oversized jewels. The floor was polished marble reflecting the lights above like a mirror. Every corner of the room was filled with people who practically radiated power—business magnates, sponsors, and, of course, other heroes.Public figures with perfect hair and perfect teeth, mingling like they ruled the world. And maybe they did. I felt sick just looking at them. They acted like gods, untouchable and invincible. But I knew the truth. Behind their sparkling veneers and glittering clothes, they were just people. Flawed, selfish people who loved to pretend they cared. The wealth, the privilege, the smugness in every conversation—they all made me want to turn and walk out. These weren’t people to admire. They were parasites, feed

Lila's pov “Oh, we’ve… had our share of travels,” I said, keeping my tone even. “But I’ve always been partial to quieter places—somewhere with fewer people and more nature.” How ironic, I thought bitterly. Alex couldn’t stand quiet places. He thrived in the spotlight, surrounded by people who worshipped him. Nature meant nothing to him unless it was the backdrop for one of his grand speeches or photo ops. The idea of us sharing a quiet moment in some peaceful, remote place was laughable. The reality was that his time was divided between chasing perfection and being Hyperion.. And me? I was an afterthought, like a forgotten decoration in the grand display of his life. I noticed the judgment behind Clarissa's eyes. It was clear she didn’t buy into my answer. “How quaint. And Alexander? I suppose you prefer the excitement?” Alex chuckled. “Lila keeps me balanced. Her love of solitude is refreshing, though I can’t say it always suits me.” His answer earned a ripple of laught

Lila's pov The room felt like it was closing in on me. I could feel the tension in the air, like a thick fog wrapping around me. It wasn’t just the uncomfortable silence that followed Victor’s entrance, but how everyone felt his presence. He was tall, his dark suit was perfectly tailored, and he gave an aura of power and control that kept everyone on their toes. I kept trying to keep myself composed, but my heart wouldn’t stop pounding in my chest. And I couldn't even afford to show signs that I regained my memory. Not in front of everyone. And not especially in front of Victor and Alex. Behind Victor, there was Isabel. Also known as Electra. She stood with a confidence that could only come from someone who had mastered the art of seduction. Her eyes moved over to Alex, and I noticed the way she tossed her hair back, She had a smile at at the corner of her lips. She was beautiful, in a way that made it impossible to look away, but there was something strange. about her

Lila's pov Victor tilted his head. "I trust that you’re... well taken care of." His words had an edge to them that made me shiver. He was testing me, probing for a weakness. He always did that, always trying to find a crack in my armor. But now, with everything swirling in my mind, I was already breaking. I couldn’t hide it. "Of course," I replied. I didn’t want to show him any weakness, but the fear was building inside me like a storm I couldn’t control. The memory of him, the way he had instructed mindwave to wipe my memories without any remorse, the feeling of helplessness and terror—it all came rushing back. The man who had taken everything from me. The man who had controlled my life alongside Alex. Alex, sensing the tension, stepped in. "Lila’s been great," he said"She’s always been supportive." His hand rested lightly on my back, but the touch felt like ice against my skin. I stiffened under his hand, but I didn’t pull away. Not yet. Not when I was still trying to pro

Lila's pov I stood on the balcony, the cool night air brushing against my skin as I stared up at the stars.Behind me, the gala’s music was soft, like a memory fading away. I felt like I didn’t belong, like a stranger in my own story. I didn't even know what was I doing here,I should be inside with Alex, pretending everything was fine, playing the perfect wife. But the lies, the secrets, the things I couldn't ignore anymore—they were all pressing on me. Meanwhile,The stars were shining peacefully as if mocking the chaos in my heart. I thought of Victor’s annoying smile, Isabel’s effort charm, and Alex—always Alex—shrouded in the lies I’d once believed. The man I had sacrificed so much for, who had once been my anchor, had become the reason I couldn’t breathe. I laughed bitterly, but it hurt. It sounded broken, as it echoed in the quiet night. The irony of my life was too much. How had I become so trapped in the illusion of a perfect life? For Fuck's sake, before meeting Ale

Lila's pov He pulled back just slightly, his lips turning with a sarcastic grin. "Miss me much?" His tone was light, but I could see the tension in his eyes, the way he was trying to keep things normal, even though we both knew that we had history. I gave him a forced smile and scoffed. "Yeah, sure, Damon. I was just waiting for you to show up and ruin my night." The sarcasm was thick in my voice, but it was all I had left. I stepped away from him, leaning against the balcony railing, staring out at the stars. The world outside seemed so peaceful I wonder if my life could ever feel that way again. “You were right,” I murmured, my voice was hollow. “About everything. Every little detail. Alex has been using me throughout our entire five years together. And I... I let him.” I let out a bitter laugh, but it didn’t feel like a laugh at all. It was broken, cracked. And then, as if it had been waiting to escape, tears started falling from my eyes. I wiped at them angrily, but the

Lila's pov “My mom... she couldn't handle it, Lila. She couldn’t live with what happened to Isaac. She’d already been through so much—fighting to raise us, dealing with the loss of my dad ,and then... losing Isaac like that. The guilt ate her alive. She kept saying it was her fault, that she didn’t see the signs, that she should’ve stopped him. I couldn’t tell her it wasn’t her fault—because I knew in some twisted way, she thought if she had kept him safe, maybe he would’ve been enough. Maybe Hyperion would’ve noticed him.” Damon’s voice shook, and he wiped a hand over his face, trying to push the memories away, but they seemed to have a hold on him that wouldn’t let go. “Two months later, she... she took the pills. The ones she kept hidden under her bed. I found her. It was too late. I couldn’t save her either.” He chuckled bitterly, though it didn’t reach his eyes. Isaac. A kid who just wanted to be seen. Lila's pov Damon got off the table. “A while ago,” he said, his voice quieter now, “there was this protest. A big one. Hundreds of people gathered to speak out against the G.H.C. Kids were there, Lila. Families. People who had been hurt, who’d lost everything because of those bastards.”His fists clenched at his sides, and for a moment, he stopped pacing, he was staring at the floor as if reliving the memory. “The G.H.C. sent their soldiers,” he said, his voice laced was with anger. “Rounded everyone up like cattle. I went undercover, tried to get information, tried to help. But…”He turned to me then. “Hyperion used his solar blast. He burned it all down. Every last thing. The people. The evidence. He didn’t even hesitate.”I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. “And you think it’s connected to Project Erebus?”Damon’s gaze hardened. “I don’t just think. I know. Whatever Erebus is, it’s worth more to the G.H.C. than human lives. And your husband—your perfect, heroic husband—he’s neck

Lila's pov “This is Caleb A.K.A black vortex” Damon said, nodding toward the figure in the corner. “He works with me as my side kick”Immediately, I heard the name "Black Vortex," and my breath hitched. The name wasn’t just familiar; it was infamous. Black Vortex was a shadow in the underground world, a digital phantom who could infiltrate the most secure systems without leaving a trace. He also had the ability to manipulate shadows, bending them to his will, creating illusions that could disorient or terrify his enemies. This power made him a master of stealth, able to move unseen and strike from the darkness. To hear Damon refer to him so casually, as his sidekick, was both shocking and unnerving.I looked back at the young man in the corner. He didn’t fit the image I had in my head of a notorious hacker. Caleb—Black Vortex—seemed almost... ordinary. His messy black hair fell over his face as he worked, his fingers moving like lightning over the keyboard. “Black Vortex?” I repeate

Lila’s POV:I stood in front of the house, and my breath stopped in my chest. Damon had called this place his “little sanctuary,” but nothing about it screamed “little.” The house was massive, a mansion that looked like it belonged to someone much more powerful than I could comprehend. It looked like something out of a dream—or a nightmare. There was a circular driveway, with shiny black cars parked around the courtyard.Oh my fucking God.I couldn’t believe it. This wasn’t just a house. It was a fortress. The kind of place you only saw in movies, the kind where people who had everything—and wanted to keep it all—lived.“You call this a little sanctuary?” I muttered, my voice was filled with disbelief.Damon glanced over at me, his smirk never fading. “It’s cozy,” he said, with a laugh that made me feel like I was missing something. He led me toward the massive oak doors, pushing them open with ease. As soon as we stepped inside, I was hit by the huge size of the place. The entryway

Lila’s POVThe low rumble of an approaching car drew my attention back to the street. My taxi had arrived. I quickly grabbed my suitcase and made my way downstairs. I paused at the mirror in the entryway, taking a deep breath and forcing a smile onto my face.“You’ve got this,” I whispered to my reflection.I opened the door and stepped outside. My smile widened as I waved to the driver, making sure the men across the street could see. I was just a woman heading to a medical conference. Nothing unusual, nothing suspicious. The driver exited the taxi and hurried to open the trunk, taking my suitcase with a polite nod before returning to the driver’s seat. I slid into the backseat, settling myself and smoothing out the fabric of my dress.“The airport, please,” I said. The driver nodded, and the car began to move. I glanced out the rear window and, as expected, the black SUV pulled out of its spot and started following us. My jaw tightened, but I kept my expression normal . They didn’t

Lila’s POVDo you have to go?” His voice was soft, almost pleading, as his arms tightened around me. “The medical conference takes about two days, how will I cope without you”Ah, the conference. How could I forget? It was the perfect excuse, one I’d painstakingly planned. A real event, something he could easily verify if he decided to check. But I wouldn’t be attending. No, today wasn’t about medical advancements or networking with colleagues. Today was about meeting Damon and taking another step toward uncovering the truth.I turned slightly in his arms, looking up at him with fake regret. “I do,” I said. “It’s important. You know how these things are.”How funny. Alex, the same man who essentially forced me to give up my career as a doctor, now seemed perfectly fine with me attending a medical conference. Not just fine—encouraging, even. He’d offered to arrange everything, from travel to accommodations. Suspicious didn’t even begin to cover it.Was this guilt? A sudden desire to “s

Lila’s POVThe morning sunlight streamed through the large windows of our kitchen. The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air. It was a beautiful scene—Los Angeles waking up to another beautiful day, birds chirping in the distance, and the world seemingly at peace.I stood at the sink, my hands were in warm, soapy water as I scrubbed the last of the breakfast plates. My reflection on the windowpane stared back at me, the face that I saw was perfect and composed, as though I had everything anyone could ever want. Behind me, Alex sat at the dining table, legs crossed, reading the morning paper like the devoted husband he pretended to be. His brow shifted slightly as he looked at the headlines, his coffee cup resting beside him.At least, that's how it seemed to most people. But ever since the gala, I had started noticing the subtle shifts in his behavior—the way his eyes were on me a second too long, or how his tone held a quiet edge when he spoke.Like now. He was pretendi

He nodded, his jaw was clenched, and his fists balled at his sides. "I’m asking you to help me expose them, Lila. Help me take them down. You know what they did now. To other families. To Isaac. And to you" His eyes were full of pain, but there was also something darker there, something I didn’t fully understand. "I can’t do this alone. I need someone on the inside. Someone who knows what it’s like to be broken by them, to have everything torn apart by their lies." I shook my head, my hands trembling. "But Damon... you’re talking about revenge. About becoming what they made you." He stepped closer, his presence felt overwhelming. "And you think I haven’t thought about that?" he said, his voice rising. "Do you think I enjoy being the villain? No, Lila. But if they want me to be a monster, I’ll be the biggest one they’ve ever seen. And I’ll drag them down with me. I’m doing this for us—for everyone they’ve hurt. For the people who can’t fight back." His eyes softened, his voice be
