Damon pov

That night, after we were escorted back to our cells, the plan started. I’d been waiting for this moment, planning it for months. M The guards were overconfident, and that was their biggest weakness.

"Ellie, Tommy, stay close to me," I whispered as I slipped out of the cell, using my shadows to silently unlock the doors. Ellie’s eyes were wide, but she stayed calm, holding Tommy’s hand tightly.

We moved quickly through the dark hallways, the cold air biting at our skin. The prison was massive, a labyrinth of cells and corridors, but I knew the way. I had memorized every corner, every guard shift, and tonight was the night everything changed.

As we approached the control room, we ran into a group of guards. They never even saw it coming. My shadows lashed out, solidifying into sharp tendrils that pierced through their bodies before they could react. Blood splattered the walls as I killed them without mercy, remembering all the horrible things they’d done to the inmates,

Damon's pov I stood, the shadows swirling around me like a storm. "You’re going to pay for this," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I swear, I’ll make you pay." I pulled off the necklace I had always worn, the one that had belonged to my brother. I pressed it into Tommy’s hand. “Take this. It’s from my brother. It’s yours now. But you need to get out of here, Tommy. You need to take care of yourself.” He looked at the necklace, his lip trembling. “Your brother?” I nodded, my throat tightening. “He was a good kid Just like you. He gave me this necklace before he… before he was killed.” Tommy hugged me tightly, and Ellie joined him, wrapping her arms around us both. For a moment, I let myself feel. But I couldn’t let them stay. Not here. Not now. “Go,” I whispered. “It’s for your own good.” Ellie gently pulled Tommy away, her face set with determination. She understood. She knew what had to be done, even if it broke her heart. Tommy cried as she dragged him toward

The moment Hyperion landed, the ground trembled beneath him. His glowing figure stood in stark contrast to the darkness that swirled around me. I didn't wait for him to speak. The anger inside me boiled over, and I lashed out. My shadows surged forward, turning into thick tendrils that shot straight for him. They wrapped around his legs, tightening like iron chains, but Hyperion didn’t flinch. With a single flex of his muscles, he broke free, sending shards of dark energy flying in every direction. He moved toward me in a blur, faster than I could react. I barely managed to throw up a shadow barrier in time as his fist came crashing down. The impact shook the ground and cracked the barrier, but it held. For now. "You need to stop this!” Hyperion’s voice was commanding, almost like he believed he could convince me to back down. As if he hadn't just destroyed everything. “Stop? After what you’ve done?” I growled, letting the shadows weave tighter around me. “You’re the one who needs

Damon's povThe ground cracked beneath us as I unleashed a barrage of shadow tendrils at Hyperion, each strike hammering him, but the bastard refused to go down. He fired back with blasts of solar energy, each beam tearing through my shadows. I dodged one, barely, but the heat scorched my side. I winced, but there was no time to feel the pain. He was already coming at me again.I pushed forward, focusing everything into a single massive strike. Shadows pooled around my fists as I swung at him, the force of the blow enough to shake the air. Hyperion blocked it with his arm, but I saw the strain in his eyes. He was slowing down, he was obviously getting tired.“Still think you can win?” I sneered, stepping back and gathering more shadows around me. “You’re running out of energy, Hyperion.”He didn’t answer. Instead, he rushed at me, fists blazing with golden light. I threw up a shadow barrier, but his fists shattered through it, slamming into my chest and knocking the breath from me. I

Alex’s POVAnger and rage are all I can feel at this point.Anger at Lila for not understanding that only I know what's best for her. Only I deserve to love her. She can only be mine. I haven't been home in two weeks, but what does that matter? Wiping her memories had to be done. I thought it would make her more docile, more obedient, easier to control. I gave her the life she needed—security, protection from all the threats outside our home—and yet, she resists me. She never understood that her choices put her in danger. But I know what's best. I always have. And then there’s Blackthorn, that villain, that pathetic excuse of a man. So what if I killed the inmates and the guards during my mission? They were just casualties—nothing but pawns in a much bigger game. I did what was necessary. All I did was complete the mission I was assigned. But now I have to sit here and listen to these G.H.C. officials drone on about damage control, while Blackthorn is still out there, breathing. This

Lila's pov I sat in the same café, staring out of the window, watching the rain trickle down the glass. It had been a week since that day, a week since Alex had walked out of the house and never came back. Not a single call. Not a single text. The only way I knew anything about him was from the news—images of him tearing through supervillains with brutal force. It was clear he was taking out the anger from our fight on them. What a monster he was. I should’ve seen it earlier. I should’ve known. But sometimes, love makes you blind. Or maybe it wasn’t love—at least, not for him. I gripped the warm cup of coffee between my hands, The truth had been slowly sinking in over the past seven days. At first, I didn’t want to believe it. I told myself there had to be an explanation. That maybe Blackthorn manipulated the videos in someway. But deep down, I knew better because Alex had just stood there while my memories were wiped. Alex didn’t love me. I was nothing more than a p

Lila's pov “Yeah, I can see that,” I said, glancing out the window at the rain-soaked street. “You’ve chosen a different path, one that leads to destruction and chaos.” “Destruction and chaos can be… liberating,” he replied, leaning forward, his dark eyes search. “You’re not happy, Lila. I can see it in your eyes.” I wanted to tell him that I didn’t need his pity, that I had enough of my own problems to deal with without his interference. But there was something in his tone that made me hesitate. “What do you want, Damon?” His smirk faded, replaced by a more sincere expression. “I want to help you.” “Help me? You’ve got to be kidding. You’re Blackthorn—how could you possibly help me?” He sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. “You think I enjoy this life? You think I chose to become the monster they all see me as?” I clenched my fists, the memory of our shared past flooding back. “You made your choices, Damon. You could’ve turned back at any point, but you didn’t

Lila's pov The moment I got home, I saw Alex sitting on the couch. The glow from the TV flickered across his face, showing the tiredness in his face. His hero costume was torn, the fabric scattered, a testament to whatever battles he had fought while I had been drowning in my own misery. He hadn’t been home in two weeks since our fight. Normally, I would have rushed to him, wrapping my arms around him, inhaling the familiar scent of his cologne. I would have buried my head in his shoulder, letting the warmth of his presence wash away the anxiety and hurt. But today, I hesitated.Instead of running into his arms, I stood frozen at the entrance, heart pounding in my chest. The memories of our last argument replayed in my mind, the harsh words exchanged like daggers. I felt a mix of anger and sadness swell inside me. How could I just forget?“Lila,” he said, his voice a hoarse whisper, pulling me from my thoughts. He looked up, his eyes locking onto mine, and for a brief moment. “I didn

Lila's pov I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. The long, flowing red dress I wore stuck to my body, hugging every curve. The dress sparkled like tiny stars along with jewels on my necklace. My hair was styled in soft waves that framed my face. Everything was flawless, put on by an expensive stylist Alex had insisted on hiring. To anyone who looked at me, I probably looked beautiful. But as I looked into my own eyes in the mirror, I didn’t see the woman I once was. I saw someone trapped. Someone who was the faint outline of the person I used to be. It felt like I was Alex's puppet now, like a ghost wandering through my own life. My mind drifted back to the fight few weeks ago when Alex had disappeared without a word. I remembered the perfume he’d come home smelling of—it wasn’t mine. The scent clung to him like a stain I couldn’t ignore. It didn’t belong to me. It belonged to someone else, and that thought had been a slow, twisting knife in my chest

Lila's pov Damon got off the table. “A while ago,” he said, his voice quieter now, “there was this protest. A big one. Hundreds of people gathered to speak out against the G.H.C. Kids were there, Lila. Families. People who had been hurt, who’d lost everything because of those bastards.”His fists clenched at his sides, and for a moment, he stopped pacing, he was staring at the floor as if reliving the memory. “The G.H.C. sent their soldiers,” he said, his voice laced was with anger. “Rounded everyone up like cattle. I went undercover, tried to get information, tried to help. But…”He turned to me then. “Hyperion used his solar blast. He burned it all down. Every last thing. The people. The evidence. He didn’t even hesitate.”I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. “And you think it’s connected to Project Erebus?”Damon’s gaze hardened. “I don’t just think. I know. Whatever Erebus is, it’s worth more to the G.H.C. than human lives. And your husband—your perfect, heroic husband—he’s neck

Lila's pov “This is Caleb A.K.A black vortex” Damon said, nodding toward the figure in the corner. “He works with me as my side kick”Immediately, I heard the name "Black Vortex," and my breath hitched. The name wasn’t just familiar; it was infamous. Black Vortex was a shadow in the underground world, a digital phantom who could infiltrate the most secure systems without leaving a trace. He also had the ability to manipulate shadows, bending them to his will, creating illusions that could disorient or terrify his enemies. This power made him a master of stealth, able to move unseen and strike from the darkness. To hear Damon refer to him so casually, as his sidekick, was both shocking and unnerving.I looked back at the young man in the corner. He didn’t fit the image I had in my head of a notorious hacker. Caleb—Black Vortex—seemed almost... ordinary. His messy black hair fell over his face as he worked, his fingers moving like lightning over the keyboard. “Black Vortex?” I repeate

Lila’s POV:I stood in front of the house, and my breath stopped in my chest. Damon had called this place his “little sanctuary,” but nothing about it screamed “little.” The house was massive, a mansion that looked like it belonged to someone much more powerful than I could comprehend. It looked like something out of a dream—or a nightmare. There was a circular driveway, with shiny black cars parked around the courtyard.Oh my fucking God.I couldn’t believe it. This wasn’t just a house. It was a fortress. The kind of place you only saw in movies, the kind where people who had everything—and wanted to keep it all—lived.“You call this a little sanctuary?” I muttered, my voice was filled with disbelief.Damon glanced over at me, his smirk never fading. “It’s cozy,” he said, with a laugh that made me feel like I was missing something. He led me toward the massive oak doors, pushing them open with ease. As soon as we stepped inside, I was hit by the huge size of the place. The entryway

Lila’s POVThe low rumble of an approaching car drew my attention back to the street. My taxi had arrived. I quickly grabbed my suitcase and made my way downstairs. I paused at the mirror in the entryway, taking a deep breath and forcing a smile onto my face.“You’ve got this,” I whispered to my reflection.I opened the door and stepped outside. My smile widened as I waved to the driver, making sure the men across the street could see. I was just a woman heading to a medical conference. Nothing unusual, nothing suspicious. The driver exited the taxi and hurried to open the trunk, taking my suitcase with a polite nod before returning to the driver’s seat. I slid into the backseat, settling myself and smoothing out the fabric of my dress.“The airport, please,” I said. The driver nodded, and the car began to move. I glanced out the rear window and, as expected, the black SUV pulled out of its spot and started following us. My jaw tightened, but I kept my expression normal . They didn’t

How could I forget? It was the perfect excuse, one I’d painstakingly planned. A real event, something he could easily verify if he decided to check. But I wouldn’t be attending. No, today wasn’t about medical advancements or networking with colleagues. Today was about meeting Damon and taking another step toward uncovering the truth.I turned slightly in his arms, looking up at him with fake regret. “I do,” I said. “It’s important. You know how these things are.”How funny. Alex, the same man who essentially forced me to give up my career as a doctor, now seemed perfectly fine with me attending a medical conference. Not just fine—encouraging, even. He’d offered to arrange everything, from travel to accommodations. Suspicious didn’t even begin to cover it.Was this guilt? A sudden desire to “s

Lila’s POVThe morning sunlight streamed through the large windows of our kitchen. The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air. It was a beautiful scene—Los Angeles waking up to another beautiful day, birds chirping in the distance, and the world seemingly at peace.I stood at the sink, my hands were in warm, soapy water as I scrubbed the last of the breakfast plates. My reflection on the windowpane stared back at me, the face that I saw was perfect and composed, as though I had everything anyone could ever want. Behind me, Alex sat at the dining table, legs crossed, reading the morning paper like the devoted husband he pretended to be. His brow shifted slightly as he looked at the headlines, his coffee cup resting beside him.At least, that's how it seemed to most people. But ever since the gala, I had started noticing the subtle shifts in his behavior—the way his eyes were on me a second too long, or how his tone held a quiet edge when he spoke.Like now. He nodded, his jaw was clenched, and his fists balled at his sides. "I’m asking you to help me expose them, Lila. Help me take them down. You know what they did now. To other families. To Isaac. And to you" His eyes were full of pain, but there was also something darker there, something I didn’t fully understand. "I can’t do this alone. I need someone on the inside. Someone who knows what it’s like to be broken by them, to have everything torn apart by their lies." I shook my head, my hands trembling. "But Damon... you’re talking about revenge. About becoming what they made you." He stepped closer, his presence felt overwhelming. "And you think I haven’t thought about that?" he said, his voice rising. "Do you think I enjoy being the villain? No, Lila. But if they want me to be a monster, I’ll be the biggest one they’ve ever seen. And I’ll drag them down with me. I’m doing this for us—for everyone they’ve hurt. For the people who can’t fight back." His eyes softened, his voice be
