Chapter 5

Even if the price was too much for his head, Nicholas could not believe Sophia would sell him to other people as if she owns his life. Nicholas hated every time he was surrounded by wealthy people. Everything comes with a price. For them, everything can be bought by their millions in their accounts.

Sadly, it does not work for Nicholas. For him, no one owns him but himself. And he was more than just fifty billion dollars even if the fact that he cannot afford that amount either. Even if he owed something priceless to the Major Family, returning his brother in his arms, they have no right to sell him like their property.

"Are you fucking kidding me, Sophie?" John burst out laughing as he could not believe Sophia will put something as huge as a billion dollars for someone like Nicholas. "My fortune is only worth a cent of that price, you idiot."

"Exactly, uncle John!" Sophia laughed as well. "Dad and I have begged Nicholas to work for us. And our pride combined were more than a billion dollars. That was why I priced Mr Jones beyond your budget limit. If you can't afford the price, then, he stayed with me."

Nicholas was having a hard time reading what was running through Sophia's mind. She just sells him to John with a price and yet, in the end, she was simply bluffing. With the kind of strategy that she was working out, everyone could get furious with her. Little did she know that her enemies will keep growing in numbers if she kept doing it.

"Speaking of price, Ms Lambert, we still have an auction to attend to in a few minutes. Better wrap up everything before we get late." Nicholas interrupted their conversation to change the topic. "And for the record, I owned my life even if you are my boss. I'm not for sale. So, if you want me to stay, please, avoid getting that of conversation."

"And where are you going?" Sophia removed her back from the headrest of the chair where she was sitting when Nicholas turned around and lifted his feet to the exit.

Everyone, including John and Eric, also dragged their glimpse at Nicholas when he glued his feet on the floor but never turned at least his face back to their spots.

"I believed the conflicts between you and Mr John were settled now. So, I guess there has nothing to worry about." Nicholas laid his gaze outside for a few seconds weighing each side of the coin and the pros and cons of working with Sophia. "I'd be waiting for you in the car."

Sophia contorted her forehead when she could not believe a low-class paid bodyguard would order her what to do out of his working hours. The Major family is paying him to guard the sole heir of the Mafia King.

Sophia, undeniably, felt belittled by what Nicholas announced right in front of their security guards and in front of John and Eric, who were enjoying the show. For them, it was one of the Major Family's weaknesses.

That the soon-to-be Mafia queen cannot handle and control someone's lower to their positions in the family, especially from a newly-hired security guard.

As soon as Nicholas disappeared from the meeting room, Eric also followed. However, Sophia and John simply ignored his disappearance and continued the meeting.

Meanwhile, Nicholas kicked the wheels of the BMW in too much anger and frustration. He could not believe the kind of job he just putting himself into, considering he wants to avoid killing humans, uttering profanity, and letting his werewolf blood control his human side as much as possible.

But the kind of work he was into, killing someone is inevitable. Getting mad is also unavoidable. Because of that, Nicholas might die sooner without knowing it.

"Hey, you?" Nicholas deliberately dragged his furious gaze in the person's direction who yelled at him. But he already expected Eric will follow him to the parking lot. The worst part was that he walked alone.

Eric is the kind of person who cannot accept being stepped on, especially by someone like Nicholas. Not to mention Nicholas embarrassed him in front of his older brother.

For Eric, Nicholas' head price was only worth a penny. Yet, the way he could speak to him back at the meeting room as if Nicholas was indestructible. Then, he grabbed his gun and cocked it to make sure it was loaded with bullets.

"Get back to the meeting, Mr Eric." Nicholas stayed calm as much as possible while studying the ambiance of the parking lot. He already read what was running through Eric's mind as he pointed the tip of his gun in Nichola's direction.

Before Eric could step his foot forward, he immediately rained the bullets at Nicholas with the thought that one of them is enough to see his body covered in blood. Sadly, none of those flashing bullets even touched the tip of Nicholas' skin as he incredibly moved faster than the speed of the bullets.

As soon as Eric's gun was emptied in bullets, Nicholas landed behind him in a blink of an eye. Then, Nicholas snatched Eric's body by force and pinned, not just his face, but his entire body to the rough surface of the ground.

"I already told you that you are nothing compared to me, Mr Eric. Don't make it hard for yourself. You can't kill me no matter how hard you try."

Eric wanted to remove Nicholas' grasp but the more he moves, the harder his head was being pinned to the ground. Hard enough those rough granules of the soil has caused Eric's baby face bleed.

"Let go of me, you bastard. I'm gonna kill you. I swear!" Eric insisted and forced his arms and legs to support his body to stand on its own.

Because Nicholas could not hurt Eric further than he was doing at the moment, he slowly let go of his grasp, slowly letting Eric get his poise back.

However, Eric was persistent unless he could get his burning flame of vengeance against Nicholas. He punched Nicholas right in the face. And he succeeded in hitting him.

"Is that all you have, Mr Eric? Are you even a real man?" Nicholas teasingly breathed. "Do you want to taste how strong my punch is?"

Because of too much irritation, Eric kicked Nicholas. But his kick did not even move Nicholas a bit from his spot. In the end, Eric only got an irritating smirk from Nicholas.

"What's going on?" John and his security guards suddenly appeared in the parking lot.

"Brother John, he punched me in the face. See the bruises on my face?" Indeed there were bruises on Eric's face after pinning him to the ground. "Just want to talk to him in a civilized way but he won't listen. Instead, he punched me."

"Because you're such a pain in the ass, Eric. You left the meeting for what? To get back to this useless bodyguard? Don't step that too low, Eric. Our family was the head of the minor. And he was just a bodyguard. I might not get the chance to pick you up when you stepped beyond my reach." John crossed his arms around his chest and ordered his men to hop to their respective cars. Days passed by, Nicholas Jones continued doing his humanitarian mission along with his packs, day and night. For the past few days of helping those humans in need, he accumulated a total of one more year of his lifeline. That means his wolf could have lived one more year. One more year to continue searching for his little brother. "Nicholas Jones, twenty years old. Been traveling from place to place for a few months in a year. Been to Chicago, Los Angeles, France, the Philippines, and more. Well, that's quite promising," a woman's familiar voice suddenly echoed behind Nicholas while sitting on a bus heading to his next humanitarian mission. Even if Nicholas was wearing his earphones, Sophia's words were loud and clear in his ears. So, he shortly turned his face around, in utter confusion. "What are you doing here?" Nicholas asked before he removed his earphones and put them back in his backpack. "Following you? Isn't that obvious?" Sophia asked back with a smile on her face. Part
