Jess was shocked but that lasted for only a split second. Her reflex would have made her run but she was stubborn. She, rather, brought her phone out and tried to record the moment. She thought it was a unique sight to behold a person in real life transforming into a wolf, although frightening. Adrenaline rushed through her, she was excited and wanted to scream. It took everything in her to hold her phone tight, miles away, and catch the whole thing on camera.
A deep growl escaped his lips as his skin turned dark. She heard his bone cracking as the air started to shimmer. A feeling she couldn’t denote enveloped her, she was numb. He cried out and suddenly, a black wolf was standing on his spot.
When Anthony had fully turned into his wolf form, he charged at her. Immediately she realized what was happening, she dropped her phone and tried to run. She was already weak from running previously plus the wolf was way stronger and faster than she was. With only a few steps, he was able to grab her and over-power her.“Anthony…” She struggled to call. He held her up so tightly that she felt her blood flow had paused. Fear enveloped her, she tried to move but was unable to. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She stammered.
Dropping her down, Anthony’s wolf stomped angrily to where her phone was laying on the ground and he crushed it.
Jess couldn’t feel her bones the moment he left her.
“Heavens!...” She cried out. She couldn’t move and the wolf was coming near her again. “Anthony, please. I won’t say a word to nobody.” She begged. The wolf's eyes were red. When he stared at her, it seemed like fire was passing through her body. She managed to crawl backwards but that only made it worst. He pinned her to the wall and she screamed so loud because of the pain she felt.
The palm of the wolf felt like it had thorns in it. He brought her closer to him, then, she couldn’t tell what happened next.
Jess awoke when a cold hand tapped her numerous times.
“Is she drunk?” The female voice asked.
“I don’t know.” Another voice replied. They tried to raised her up and she stayed still, letting them do what they want with her until she heard, “Oh my God, she’s so bruised. We need to call the police. I think she was robbed.”
“Shouldn’t we take her to the hospital?” The other person asked.
Jess realized it was time for her to stop the prank. She shot up immediately. “I’m okay. I’m okay.” Getting up from the ground, she dusted the sand from her clothes. She felt so cold…and bruised. She looked at her skin and yeah, she was so bruised.“Heavens! He scratched me.” She cried out, events from last night running through her mind. The two girls stared at her in awe. Both of them were the cleaners of the university’s mini library, they had morning shifts.
“Are you okay?” The taller girl asked. “Do you need to go to the hospital? Were you robbed?”
“No, no.” Jess said. “I just came here to read and…” She paused when her eyes rested on her phone that laid a few steps from where they stood. Girls, my phone is so ruined. My documents, my pictures, everything...Oh, right, they’re saved in the cloud. Did you by any chance see any blonde nerdy boy here this morning?”
“Nope.”
“Okay, did you see a big…” She paused. It would sound crazy, definitely, but she to. “Wolf?”
“Christ! Definitely not. We only saw you here, lying on the ground, eyes closed, looking so dead.”
“Uhh, whatever. I should be on my way home now. You had better start your work before the librarians come and meet this place messy. You would lose your job. Thanks for your help, pretties.”
“She’s so weird.” They hissed but Jess didn’t mind. She was trying not to show that she was internally freaking out. The part of her arm where Anthony grabbed her was red and it had scratches. Her legs were bruised too. She felt a sore on her face but she couldn’t tell if it was a cut or scratch.
Too tired to run, she settled for walking or was she jogging, rather? She was walking in a fast pace, almost running, but she wasn’t running.
Jaden stood in front of their apartment, dressed up, he looked worried sick that she almost burst out laughing.
“Jess, Jesus Christ! I was coming to look for you. I didn’t even realize you didn’t come in until it was past three. I was so worried, I thought you got lost or something.”
Jess excused herself and went inside. The excitement in her had been drained.
“Tch, babe. Are you mad at me for something?”
“You mean, you didn’t realize I wasn’t in? That’s such a mean thing to say. Didn’t you see me leave? You couldn’t care to stop me and now, you didn’t realize I didn’t come back till past three?”
“I told you not to go, Jess. I don’t get why you are mad. I begged you not to go. Shouldn’t I be mad that you went back out by that time of the night to get a boy’s contact? Do you care about whatever ideas I could be getting from that situation? And it was 3 O'clock, which was just three hours from when you left…” He said, clearly frustrated. “And I was sleepy.”
“You are simply unbelievable.” Jess cried out and turned away from him. She turned her phone torch and and began to search for her undies and fresh clothes. She started to grumble about something else and it just made him feel so bad. He hated when she behaved like that. She wasn’t like this before she got pregnant so he would bet his whole arse that it was pregnancy hormones. He understood that sometimes, she couldn’t control it so he let things slide.
“How many weeks gone are you?”
“Thirteen.”
“I’m sorry I talked to you like that. I’m really sorry. I promise, I was worried. I was so worried.”
“It’s fine.” She smiled and he heaved a sigh of relief. “I would love to use the bathroom.” Her clothes had a bad stench, she smelled like Anthony’s wolf and she hated it.
Inside the bathroom, Jess began to cry. She stood in front of the mirror, naked. Her skin had become really bad and she thought she might need to go to the hospital. The worst thing was that she couldn’t even explain why.
Jaden kept on tapping on the the bathroom door, asking her what was wrong. She refused to open the door and she sobbed loudly.
“I’d open it myself, Jessica, if you don’t open it this moment.” Jaden warned, in a stern voice.
She resorted to turning the bathroom light off so that he wouldn’t see her, then she opened the door.
“Seriously?” He asked, as he turned on the light. “Oh my God, what happened to you?” Jaden cried out.
When she had come in earlier, the day was still dark and he had turned the light off. “Oh shit, holy cow. Heavens! What happened? Jessica, talk to me right now.” The fact that she was crying wasn’t helping matters. He held his arms out for a hug and she gave in. What wasn’t helping matters again was that he was getting a boner that moment. “Fuck.” He groaned. “Love?” He called.
“Yeah?” She answered softly.
“Freshen up and come let’s talk, okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you need help with your bath?”
“No, you perv.” She laughed, throwing him a punch jokingly. He pretended to be in pain, then he left her to have a bath.
Jess wore a black leggings and a crotchet sweater over a tank top that she had worn at first. Her hair was very tangled so when she had tried to comb it and the comb kept getting stucked, she gave up on it and wore a bonnet instead.
Jaden walked into the room after he had called her for the umpteenth time to come for breakfast, he caught her trying to apply some make-up. Jessy never applied makeups unless it was her birthday or she was attending a party or something.
“Look at you so dressed up and now, you’re gonna apply some make-up? Babe, you know you don’t have to hide them, right? These scars doesn’t make you less beautiful and I know they would heal over time, okay?”
Jess stood in front of him, pouting her lips and staring at him like a child who had just been caught stealing milk and was getting reprimanded.
He hugged her. “Now, come let’s eat. And you’d tell me what happened to you last night.”
“Don’t bother 'cause you would never believe it.” She warned as they sat down in the dinning room.
“Why is she so nosy?” Anthony sighed as soon as Jessica and Jaden were out of sight.Immediately, he got up and packed all the chemistry and physics text books into his school bag. He hadn’t come here to read chemistry. He came for something else. The university's mini library was hardly used because there was a much bigger one in the main campus. The main library was so beautiful and it even had a museum in it. The e-library and ‘graphic charts' that helped aids explanation for any course, was a huge topping on the parfait. So, Anthony was confused as to why Jess and Jaden had come here instead. The University management had warned that students desist from the mini library at night. It wasn’t connected to the power supply so they had to use candles to read. It wasn’t advisable and it could cause a fire. The mini library was no safe too, as it was at the farther end of the school. It was supposed to be used only in the day time by special students who couldn’t use the public library
"I’m waiting.” Jaden reminded Jess midway into the meal, as he was becoming uncomfortable with her silence. “The problem with you us that you doubt a lot. I feel there’s no need to tell you this because you wouldn’t believe it.” Jess said, as a matter of factly. Jaden feigned annoyance and continued with his meal. After eating, he still wasn’t talking to her and Jess had began to feel bad. “Jade.” She called. He ignored her. “Jadeeee.” She whined again. After being ignored for the second time, she picked up the remote and turned the television off. He faced her. “Are you ready to talk now?” “Yeah.” She nodded, sitting on the couch beside him. “As soon as I got there, I practically saw Anthony turn into a werewolf. I know this is unbelievable, yeah, but you just have to believe me. I wonder why he came out when the moon was full. Little wonder he was so rebellious when we were arguing about werewolves. Trust me, I was about to record to show you but the wolf pounced on me. Loo
Allison had just finished her last class for the day and was supposed to catch a bus in ten minutes. She decided to grab some snacks from the tuck shop when she got a call from Cece, her big sister. “Hey, big sist.” She said, the phone was placed between her shoulders and her ear as she held her backpack with one hand and the pack of fries she just paid for, with her second hand. “Cece.” She called again because of the silence from the other end. When she managed to put the fries in her bag, she held her phone properly. “Why aren’t you speaking? Is it the service from your end? Cece? Can you hear me?” At that point, she was already strolling to the bus stop but as soon as she heard Cece say, “Ally, come home. I’m dying,” she had become dishevelled and she began to run. If it was in her power to make the bus move faster, she would have done everything. Arriving in Cece's apartment, the door was locked and she didn’t have her own key with her. “Cece!” She screamed. “Cece, are you
“Cece, let’s talk about that at home.” Jade intervened immediately, freeing himself from his cousin. He wondered why his own cousins acts like he was just a random boy dating their sister. He was their family, for Christ sake; Jess was not. At least, not yet.“He doesn’t beat me. He has never touched me.” Jessica added when she realized that the tension in the car remained the same.At home, they spent the evening listening to Cece talk about how Jaden had made her feel with his actions towards Jess previously. She had been reminded, from that action, her ordeal with Chris, her ex boyfriend.“I do not want you to be like Chris. Nobody should have a partner like Chris. No one should have to go through what I went through.” Cece said, sniffling.Allison already fell asleep. She was bored. Each time Cece had gotten drunk—which was often in the past—and Allison had come to her rescue, she somehow had to hear this story again and again; now, she could recite it like a poem.“He used to say
Chapter seven. Jessica was sick. She had begin to notice dire changes in her body that made her scared. Jade strongly believed it was part of the pregnancy package. Through out the tonight, her body temperature was fire. He turned on the AC to get the room cold but she was feeling shivering. She had both a warm bath and a cold bath at different intervals through out the night. In the morning, they were supposed to set off to the hospital but surprisingly, she was okay. She was hyper and it didn’t seem like she was ever sick. Jade still insisted they go to the hospital because it was unbelievable. At the hospital, nothing was diagnosed. She and the baby was doing fine, the doctor had said. They had only given her drugs to reduce the fatigue she complained of. Jade kissed Jess on her cheeks as he set out to school. She had decided to rest at home for the week till she was sure she was fully okay and Jade seconded this. She had the option of online classes too so she opted for that in
A thud on the window awoke Jess, but she laid still. The second time she heard it, she rolled over quietly to reach for Jade but he wasn’t on the bed. She laid still again and wondered where Jade was and where the noise was from. The third time she heard it, she had to call for Jade.“Babe? Babe, Is that you?” She whispered at first. “Are you trying to play a trick on me, Jaden?” She called loudly this time. Jess was frightened. There wasn’t a net over her window, someone could easily break in or steal something from the window. They were supposed to get the window properly fixed a long time ago but she had been postponing it. “My shit is going to catch up with me today!” Jess whispered under her breath. The thud didn’t repeat after the third time but she wasn’t going to remain in that room. She reached for her phone and turned the torchlight on. She walked on her toes to the dinning room, just in time to see Jaden minimize the G****e tab. She had walked in from behind him so she
Jessica and Jaden waited to hear a thud on the window again for weeks. The second time Anthony had dropped a book in Jessica’s room, she had been the one to see it. And, she had kept this away from Jaden. Jaden still did not tell her about the first book. He didn’t believe and he didn’t want her to, too. However, he was inwardly determined to get whoever did that and question the person. Unfortunately, the second time it happened, he had gone to the library alone. Wrong timing. He had gone to the library almost everyday since the first time it happened. He had started to believe Jessica’s story about Anthony turning into a werewolf because nothing else made sense to him. Sometimes, he thought she planned all of this and she was messing with him. Jessica had always loved to prove a point whenever she thought she was right. But, she had never gone that far. He strongly wanted to tell her to stop if it was a joke but he always remembered that she was still in the dark about the book a
Everything she had read to prepare her mind for this moment escaped her immediately. She couldn’t even tell if Jaden was there, watching in fear or not. The only thing she could think of was the excruciating pain she felt as her muscles begin to expand, ripping her clothes. She felt like she was being stabbed with numerous needles. Her feet were sore, she groaned as the feeling became worse. Jessica noticed pricks all over her body as tiny hairs began to cover her. She tried to stand up but failed and fell to the ground, hitting the floor as her bones started to break and reform. Jessica’s ears began to reform next as she cried out from pain. Her fingers and toes became longer too. She kept her eyes fixed on them as she noticed the way they became covered in hair. Her nails and toe nails grew into claws. The hair on her skin was not just any hair; they were furs. White furs. She couldn’t tell if they were beautiful. Heck, you couldn’t even tell anything. The only time her mind wav
Mr. Yugo paced back and forth in his home library. Anthony was mad, he thought. On his way home, he received the flier from a complete stranger. This proves that if you give power to a young person, they are prone to misuse it. Did he not warn Anthony? Did he not warn him enough? He placed a call to him and asked him to come to his house urgently even though it was almost 9PM. He managed to sit down as he read the content of the flier again, as he tapped one foot of his on the ground repeatedly. Anthony arrived at his doorstep half an hour later. By then, his rage had calmed down. Nevertheless, he still had a lot of questions for the younger boy.“What is this about?” He asked Anthony as he raised the flier up.“What? What is that?” Mr. Yugo handed the flier over to him and Anthony denied being responsible.“LEGALIZE WEREWOLVES AND VAMPIRES MOVES AGAIN. END THE BAN!” That was what the flier read. Once it clicked, Anthony burst out in laughter to the amusement and anger of Mr. Yu
As soon as they got to Mr. Yugo’s home, the man excused himself to go get a cup of coffee for both of them. When he came back to the living room, he saw Anthony undressing. His shirt and singlet was already off and next was his pants. Mr. Yugo turned away in annoyance, “I never told you I wanted to see you unclad.” Anthony chuckled. He wanted to remind Mr. Yugo that he did the same when he wanted to prove to him that he was a werewolf too. But, he doesn’t say anything because he didn’t want to disrupt the process. Mr. Yugo peeped after a few minutes to see if he was transformed yet but he wasn’t. His whole body was trembling and his eyes were turning dark already. Mr. Yugo trusted the process. He was already proud of his boy because he knew he was on the right track. His skin pulling taught over his cheekbones and his bones made loud cracking sound like an earthquake was airing on TV. Anthony groans. He no longer cries out in despair although, he was feeling a little pains. In a
Anthony visited the library today, after two whole months of hiding. Mr. Yugo was ready to accept him back with open arms. “You can’t hide from your destiny.” Mr. Yugo told him. Anthony nodded and took a seat, “I figured.” He said. The older man giggled, “I have missed you, my boy. Now, tell me something new.”Anthony thought for a while if he should tell him he could now transform at will. IT wasn’t as if he did not trust the older man. He absolutely did. At least, the man had proven himself countless times to be wise and trustworthy. The man has also been his teacher and mentor and had helped him accept himself to an extent. Now, he felt less like a failure and even when he did, it wasn’t about him being confused about being a werewolf and all the packages that came with it. The best thing that had ever happened to him was finding someone or rather letting himself find someone who could answer all the question he had ever had, clear all the doubt he had about himself and give him b
“Please, can I touch your bump?” Jaden asked Jessica after he handed a cup of hot tea to her. She dropped it by her dresser and muttered a ‘thank you’ then nodded to his request immediately after. “Aww, so cute.” He said. He rubbed her stomach with his right palm again and the baby kicked. “Aww, wow. He just kicked. I’m so happy, Christ. My baby just kicked.” Jessica rolled her eyes at the last sentence. Jaden was trying to be overly courteous so she knew he didn’t intend to hurt her but, she couldn’t help but continue to feel he came back for ‘his baby.’ In fact, she couldn’t stop making up scenarios and reasons in her head. But, his actions supersedes all of them. Jaden has been good. Too good that she was suspicious. That was the problem. Her mind was unable to appreciate his actions without thinking there was an ulterior motive. But really, Jaden was just sorry and he was trying to show her.Perhaps, she had to learn how to love him again? But after a whole month, his love for
The letter read, “I’m so sorry, Jessica. I know you must hate more now and you have every reason to. I know if it was me in this situation, you would have been here for me. You have always been there for me and I feel so ashamed that the first thing I did when you needed me the most is to flee. I know you would want to blame yourself for going back that night but love, it’s really not your fault. Nobody saw that coming. I promise that we are in this together. I’m sorry for leaving and for staying away for so long and not just that. I’m sorry for not taking your calls, for not reaching out, for making you think it’s your fault and for making you feel you no longer deserve love. Like you always say, sorry is not a magic word. It’s the actions that shows one is truly sorry so sorry is a magic action. Please, give me the opportunity to show how sorry I am. I don’t know if you are ready to face me but as soon as you decide you are, call me and I’d be there in a second. Jaden.” As soon
The worst kind of punishment is silence. It’s been a week since Jess returned home and her father hadn’t said a word to her. She was looking better already because he had ordered his people to nurse her and make her look like his Jessica. However, her inside was still troubled. He had told her the day she arrived home that if he finds out that the bump is a baby bump, he ceases to be her father. She was sure he knew already. A nurse had taken a sample of her blood and urine yesterday for a test. Her anxiety rose higher than an electric storm. She wondered why Jaden hadn’t tried to reach her yet. But, was it her fault that she was a werewolf? Does this mean their love had come to an end? Why wouldn’t he even send a text to tell her they are officially over? She had tried to call him several times but he wasn’t picking up. “It would take a second before I give up too.” She whispered to herself. The longer she stayed home, the more classes she missed. She asked to speak to her father
Jessica knew it was trouble for her when she opened the door to see her father standing there. He was followed by two men—his guards. Jessica’s father was rich and powerful. He was also an angry man. Jessica liked to describe him as extremely annoying and authoritative. The whole time, he thinks he is being protective of his only child, not knowing that he is hurting her. Throughout high school, he had someone monitor every of Jessica’s footstep. He even wanted her to be homeschooled. He was very hesitant to let her school in New York but at a point, he didn’t have a better choice. The girl was becoming rebellious and didn’t want to listen to him anymore. He didn’t have time for that; election was on the way. He is a politician. “I think it is a wise decision to keep her away from the spotlight.” Houston, the only person he listened to, told him. Houston was Jessica’s dad’s bosom friend. There was no amount of money Jessica could have used to bribe him to say that on her behalf.
Depression was consuming her as fast as a wild fire consumes a polythene. Every day was the same to her. Jaden was gone. For six days now, he was gone. She, too, was gone. She was no longer Jess. After her first transformation, she had to experienced any other one. Only that, she knew loneliness life a childhood friend. Sadness felt a little too ‘at home’ in her life. Each day, she stared at her phone, waiting for a call from Jaden. She scrolled through her contact list numerous times a day looking for who to call, as if she was compulsive. “This is what happens when you meet a man and call him your home.” She whispered. “You can house more than a home,” She said. “But, you are an introvert. Since you found home, you never left.” “What happens when home leaves you?” She hadn’t had her shower for six days. She hadn’t brushed her teeth for six days! She hadn’t picked up the broken pieces of glass she shattered when she was not Jess. She was walking dead. She was breathing, yet no
