"It's all right, Melvin," Karen said, trying to lift my mood. "There were a lot of vampires in New Orleans. We could still find one."

Three hours later, Karen and I found ourselves back in her place. We are seated on the couch with a bridge of deafening silence backgrounding the living area.

If not because my phone dings, the utter silence could have extended. The message comes from Alpha Draku's beta, telling me that Karen and I must fulfill our duty as werewolf commanders with Johndale starting tomorrow.

He also sends me all the details of our salaries and the schedule of reporting to Alpha Draku. Instead of on a monthly basis, Alpha Draku required us to report to him and the elders every quarter of the month or if necessary.

"Karen?" I breathed out her name softly.

"What?" she asked without dragging her face at me.

"I might be out of here sooner." I said. "your wolf was already equipped with the basics of being a werewolf. And we are done with your train

"Both, I guess." Simon heaved a sigh. Our dilemma started to burst when Coach Green took the first few applicants through their paces on the field. The vampire students moved with lightning-fast speed and agility, dodging and weaving past their opponents with ease. The sound of growling and snarling was unmistakable as Simon and I watched from the sidelines. We continued watching in amazement as the vampire students continued to dominate the field. We watched as one of the vampire students tackled the ball carrier with incredible force, sending him flying across the field. It was at that moment that I realized that these vampires weren't anything like they had ever seen before. It was then that Coach Green noticed us observing the tryouts from the sidelines. He called our names and ordered us to join in the tryouts. "You boys think you can do better? Prove it!" he shouted. "Maybe I should back out now." Jackson chickened out. "I mean, I can graduate without t

After a long pursuit, my wolf finally caught up with the bloodsucker. He was crouching by the tree, cradling the kid in his arms. He turned around and sneered at me, his eyes glowing red. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't drain the life out of this poor child, wolf," he said, enjoying to her the continuous weeping of the kid. I could not help but clench my fists, feeling my claws extend. "Because I won't let you," I growled. The vampire bared his fangs, hissing menacingly. My wolf could see that he was a powerful and experienced vampire, with years of combat experience under his belt. He had long black hair, sharp features, and a lean, predatory build. But my wolf was not intimidated. I knew that, if necessary, I could fight him to death in order to save the kid. In a few seconds, Karen appeared. Perhaps she already locked the old woman back in the car. But accompanied by her appearance, the vampire made a sudden, lightning-fast move, darting towards

The next morning, the vampire woke up and found himself locked up in a cell, surrounded by the werewolf pack behind me. I stepped forward and began the interrogation as planned. Our one-on-one conversation started when I asked the vampire who their leader was, what they were doing in the city, what their purpose was, and if he knew about the vampire students in school. The vampire, who was still groggy from being locked up, tried his best to avoid my questions. He was a cunning and manipulative creature and had been trained to withstand any interrogation attempts. But my wolf wasn't going to give up that easily. I kept questioning the vampire, probing him further and further until finally, the vampire relented. "I will tell you what you want to know, but I need reassurance that you will let me go," said the vampire, his voice raspy and hoarse. "Nice try, but that's not going to happen. You're going to answer my questions or face the consequences." my wolf could not help but scoff

"Please, I need blood," he added. "I can't leave without drinking blood." We already meet a few vampires in school but none of them were desperate of drinking blood. Who is this vampire in front of us anyway? And why is he different from the ones we have already seen? Not that my wolf is worried about his chance of survival but I could not help myself but wonder. Is it in their nature to drink human blood in order to survive? What if they could not drink blood, are they going to die eventually? "Say something, Melvin." Simon broke the moment of silence between the six of us in the basement. Seven including the vampire in front of us. Actually, I could not count how many of us are in the basement already if we are going to include those skinless bones around us. Hundreds if not a thousand perhaps. "We are also wolves. I can feel your bothering mind. They are feeding and bothering our consciousness. So better ask if you have questions." he added. "And we don't

Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm my wolf down. Then I focused on my breathing, trying to push away the anger that was threatening to overwhelm me. But as I watched Alex body check one of my teammates and laughed, my wolf could not hold back any longer. "Melvin, what are you doing?" Jackson started getting worried. "We will end up the training session with broken bones, Jackson. I need to do something. Alex is doing this on purpose." I said back, my voice started to become a growl. With a roar, I leaped forward with my fangs bared and claws out. Alex's eyes widened in terror as he realized the mistake he had made. I landed on his feet, and, with a swift movement, knocked Alex to the ground. The rest of the players on the field stopped what they were doing, watching with a mixture of horror and fascination as my transformation continued. Jackson and Simon quickly moved to restrain my wolf before I could hurt anyone. "Get off me!" I snarled, struggling to bre

Part of me wanted to join Karen by attacking the vampire but I could not help but ask out of curiosity and confusion. "Did he just breathe out our names? Or am I exaggerating things?" "No, you're not exaggerating things, Melvin," Jackson said back. "That vampire certainly recognized you and Karen." Jackson felt his heart racing as he saw the vampire's eyes glow with an unearthly light. He knew that we were in danger, but he also knew that this was his chance to make a difference. So he rushed towards the vampire, his stake held high. The vampire dodged his attack easily, sending him crashing into a nearby wall. Karen and I continued to fight the vampire, but he was too powerful for us. Just as he was about to sink his fangs into Karen's neck, an unexpected figure appeared. "Conrad?" I could not help breathing out his name. Even if the place was a bit dim, my wolf knows for a fact he was Conrad because I know his scent. And as far as I could remember, the l

Alex wanted to talk but all I could hear from his mouth was his moaning. He also tried to loosen up the ropes and chains we wrapped from his body while his tears kept pouring from his eyes. "I will remove the scotch tape from your mouth. But promise me you will not scream okay?" I said before I enhanced my werewolf senses and dragged them to the living area to check on Jackson and Karen in her room. Alex nodded. But the second I removed the scotch tape I covered from his mouth, my eardrums almost exploded from his sharpness, and continues screaming. He leaves me with no choice but to put the scotch tape back into his mouth. "Who could have thought Simon was right," I said, feeling back at the silence of the room. "You, vampires are not worth our trust. I'm trying to be good to you, but you declined to cooperate." Two hours later, Karen and Jackson were surprised after seeing my room was already empty apart from the ropes and chains we wrapped on Alex's body. Fo

I did not finish watching the entire scene so I slide to the bathroom and took a bath, then packed up for school. As soon as I stepped foot on the school's premises, my werewolf senses immediately searched for Simon's whereabouts. But instead of Simon, my senses first found Jackson and Karen walking in the hallway together. And I found it a bit odd when they don't usually walk together. So I was thinking about what happened last night. Perhaps they were talking about me doing the right thing letting go of Alex instead of killing him because that was what they believed at first until I confessed. "What's up guys? Did I miss something?" I shrugged them both and smiled. Karen smiled back. "We were just talking about stuff, Melvin. Don't worry, your best friend was not hitting on me. And just to be clear, he is not my type." Jackson contorted in disbelief, especially when he saw me staring at his face and could barely drop the ear-to-ear smile on my face. And I

He shifted back to his human form, and with a sadistic grin, he cruelly taunted me, relishing in his superiority. He unleashed a barrage of punches to my battered face, blood spewing from my mouth with each blow. The agony intensified, yet he continued to laugh, finding pleasure in my suffering. "How does it feel, huh, Melvin?" he continued. "Does it hurt? How about removing your fingers one by one? That would be music to my ears." The dense forest surrounding the cave was already engulfed in dark smoke and flames. The crackling fire licked hungrily at the trees, transforming the once serene landscape into a fiery nightmare. And at the center of it, all stood a colossal werewolf, towering over us with an air of malevolent power. The massive creature was not just content with burning the forest. Out of curiosity, I opened my hand and looked at what she just handed me. In Jennie's final moments, she presented me with a syringe filled with a mysterious green liquid. As far as I could remember, it was the same serum her father had used to transform me into a human. Her voice trembled as she spoke the instructions. "Please... use this... to stop my... evil dad. Simon immediately shut his mouth, and deny it or not, my wolf started to sense the worries and fears that itched his expression right after confessing to him about the killings. The mask fragmented into countless pieces. Reality itched me as I glanced back to Karen. She's dead. And it was because of me. I killed her, my mate. And the love of my life. But how?
