My wolf was in high spirits upon hearing straight from Alpha Draku's mouth that I got a second chance to stay with the pack but the condition was somehow unreasonable and oppressive.

Knowing that Karen is back on her feet made me convinced that my wolf no longer needs to feel remorseful after the terrible and unforgettable incident.

But killing her is completely beyond my feeble imagination, conscience, and morals. That's not me in the first place.

"And if I decline?" I raise the question, not because there was this tiny part of me who considered killing her but because I want to know the consequences that are bound to happen to my wolf sooner or later.

Julian and Jelian simply pointed their sharp eyes at me while waiting for Alpha Draku to respond. However, looking at them in the eye, especially Jelian, who is supposed to be my fated mate only reminded me of their betrayal.

"If you cannot do it, Alpha Draku will assign me and Julian to do the job. And your chance to be part of the pack again will be void. So, better pick the right one, Melvin. You are the smartest werewolf guardian I have ever met." Jelian explained.

After telling them my conclusive decision, I started my journey back to my apartment. I have already decided on what to do with Karen so, my wolf no longer thinks about her case.

Instead, I was thinking about me disowning Jelian being my mate. Who could have thought the incident with Karen would cause me to become jobless, mateless, and a lone wolf? Three worst problems I try to avoid.

But the three of them have befallen me in one blow.

"Great, Melvin!" I uttered to myself. "You did a great job for being the unluckiest and the worst wolf ever lived in history."

"You can still avoid those bad lucks if you get back to me, Melvin," says Jelian from behind me. This time, she was no longer with her twin brother but with Johndale.

As far as I could remember, Johndale is the werewolf guardian who got my spot to keep an eye on New Orleans. And the one who sends me the summon paper.

I don't know for how long the two have been following me but it seems that the two were also on their way somewhere when both of them were carrying their respective backpacks.

"You heard me, Melvin," she added "I want us to get back together. Be my mate again. Forget this woman. Let us do the mission killing her if it is against your will."

"Let me guess," I uttered as my feet kept moving forward. "you and Julian haven't told anyone that we already broke up since the day you betrayed me." then I scoff shortly when I just realized one thing. "Right. You were ashamed of being mateless, especially when there is a huge possibility that whatever lies you and your brother told Alpha Draku might be disclosed."

I intentionally let out those words for Johndale to know the thick mask behind Jelian and Julian's wolves. My instinct believes that even Johndale is not aware of me and Jelian breaking up.

"Apology, Johndale," I added. "You could just ignore our confessions."

Johndale simply shut off his mouth with his eyes pointed to the ground. But I know a lot of things are working on in his curious mind.

As far as I can remember, he is also one of the wolves who has been daydreaming about Jelian before we become mates. And I don't know if I can still consider him an ally or not now that he knows me and Jelian breaking up.

These days, stabbing someone behind their back is a trend. So, I am already foreseeing Johndale will do the same. It is not that hard to stab someone behind their back. That is how easy for Jelian and Julian to betray me.

"And for you, Jelian." I smiled at her with my arms crossed behind the back of my head. "You know, of all the wolves, that trust is always a huge issue for me. Once it gets broken, there's nothing or no one that can fix it. So, good luck with finding your next mate. And I hope you will not stab as well."

To my surprise, which also causes my feet to get glued to the ground, Jelian dropped her knees on the ground, not because she got tired of carrying those luggage bags, but because she feels sorry.

She even poured tears from her eyes. "Please, Melvin. I love you. Can you just let it slide? What about the good things... Good memories that we shared for the past years, huh? Aren't those matter to you?"

She then looks me in the eye, allowing me to remember those good old days we shared. Those days when my arms were wrapping hers. Those days when my lips are being rubbed with her lips.

And those sleepless nights we solemnly discussed and considered having a family. About how many kids we are going to make; that as their werewolf guardian parents, we have to love and take care of them unconditionally.

"Love?" I clarified it to her. "Betraying is your way of showing your love to some, Jelian. It does not work for me. On the bright side, you have shown me who you really are before my feelings for you have gone deeper."

My wolf doesn't want to breathe the same air as her as it was already polluted, so I run as fast as possible away from them. Bad thing I could not shift without the influence of the full moon.

Because if my wolf could, I have already done that to make sure I could run away at the speed of light. Seeing her face is only suffocating me.

Ten minutes later, I dropped my butt on the floor as soon as I got into my apartment with a heavy heart and pouring tears. Part of me wanted to run back and tell her I love her too.

Truth be told, I can't live without Jelian.

But the damage she caused me is too unbearable for me to carry. And I could barely consider getting back to her can solve everything. Getting back to her only means a new day for her to betray me again.

I don't have more than one heart to carry the burden when that happens. So, it would be better this way. My wailing wounded heart will get healed eventually. I hope so. I believe so.

The next morning, I was too early for our second subject when I barely slept well last night. I did not just miss my meal but my bath as well.

Though I showered my entire school uniform with perfume, I am only making it more obvious that I did not take a bath. Let alone those dark eyebags that encircled my eyes.

When I got into the room, I was taken aback when Karen greeted me with an ear-to-ear smile on her face.

"Look who's here to see you?" she eagerly asked me. Then she slides to the corner, leading my eyes in a particular direction of the room.

My sleepiness was completely cut off upon seeing Julian and Jelian smiling at me wearing our school uniforms.

"Is it true that Jelian is your girlfriend?" Karen added.

It seems that my world started falling apart when the sounds of the clock ticking reached my ears while waiting for Karen to open her mouth. Once she discloses my identity, I'm afraid that will be the end of my time. Karen was a very influential student in the school. Everything she says makes sense to everyone. "Karen, Can I talk with you for a sec?" I asked her before she could say a thing to them. "Come on, dude, we are in the middle of discussing something very important." annoyingly says one of Karen's friends. "Have some manners, can't you?" That statement put my wolf into an undesirable situation when it was not just Karen and her circle of friends looking at me viciously, but most students with us in the library. I already caused enough disturbance when I drop the book onto the floor earlier. So, before anyone could throw something to my face, I grab Karen's hand and drag her to the corner behind a towering shelf where no one can see or hear us.

Getting leftovers, most if not all, nights could help me minimize spending dough for my dinner, or if given the chance, my breakfast could also be saved by that. "Can I have your orders now?" I respectfully asked them. And of course, with a smile on my face. "Can you just wait for us to call you?" Julian furiously said back on everyone's behalf, including Karen. "we got seated here like for three minutes." Part of me wanted to drop the order sheet to the table and stab the pen I was holding straight into Julian's eyes when my patience is getting thin already. If

My wolf then notices that Johndale swiftly enhances his werewolf senses while scanning the atmosphere including everyone's faces who are coming in and out of the main entrance. "We are attending the twin's party. Why? Are we in the wrong place? And who are you by the way? Are you a student from our school? Why am I not knowing you? Do you know my name?" Johndale simply asks us one question yet Karen bombarded him endlessly. I did not even expect that coming from her. But then again, I cannot blame Karen for that when I haven't introduced her to Johndale. "Before anything else, Karen, this man in front of us, is Johndale. Johndale, this woman beside me is Karen. You were the one that I confessed to each of you recently." Johndale suddenly drags me into the corner, leaving Karen alone from our spot. "What? So you two intentionally waited for me before you could kill her?" my wolf quickly jump and land on in front of Karen before Julian could lay even the tip of his claws on her. Julian and Jelian suddenly exchange glances. The kind of glance that is telling me to get ready when something I less like is bound to happen at any second. No matter what happens, my wolf is going to protect Karen from them. They have to pass through me first before they could kill her. I know my wolf is being outnumbered. The possible battle is two against one. However, I know everything about Jelian. About how fast and strong is. Not enough to beat someone like me alone. Julian, on the other hand, is thrice faster and stronger than his twin sister. Even if our wolves did not tag along that much when Jelian and I are still mated, I heard rumors that Julian managed to beat four older wolves in one battle. He is not the kind of wolf I should feel at ease. I know my limitations a

As a result of exerting much of my wolf's force, Julian's claws were also extracted from my shoulder and his body was thrown away. My wolf risked flashing in Karen's direction to help her but Julian managed to stop me from doing so. He bumped into my body right before breaking my right leg. But it did not stop me from trying hard to save Karen. And I will make sure before the night end, Karen will be riding her car again heading back to her home. "Try harder, Melvin." Julian viciously uttered. "Then try harder stopping me, Julian," I uttered back right after flipping the broken bones of my leg back to its position. I barely moan despite the pain when I press my gums harder not to produce sound. As soon as my legs finally healed, I flash back to the tree again, this time, by jumping on top of Julian. High enough the only thing he did is to look at me cutting off the ropes that were tied on Karen's feet. "Behind you," she uttered in a faint tone. "What?

"And it's all your fault, you idiot!" there is no turning back from what I said to Julian. Call it disrespectful considering Julian has a noble name to uphold, but I have no regrets about saying that to him. He and Jelian deserve not to be respected. So, I shortly took a glimpse at Karen using one eye in the corner while the other eye was pointed back at Julian. As far as I can see, Karen's wolf started to ease off when I could no longer sense the rage inside her. Let alone she keeps on whimpering in the corner. And her legs were trembling. Her actions are an indication to me that her wolf no longer possesses a threat to the wolves around us. I just don't know what her circle of human friends thought about her. What if some of them recognize her? "Are you kidding me, Melvin? Don't you realize that you and your little wolf are outnumbered? Give her to us if you still want to live longer." Julian said. "And if I don't?" I insisted despite the undesirable
