CHAPTER THREE
What Kate did not expect the next afternoon was to find Frank Edward at her door.
"I just wanted to apologise about last night, I admit I was extremely rude. Am grateful to you for helping my son."Kate mildly rolled her eyes and folded her arms across her ample bosom, it was a gesture she realised didn't go unnoticed by the man. She thought about it for a moment before concluding, "Apology accepted. Good day Mr Frank Edward." She was about to shut the door in his face."I was hoping that you could join me for lunch.""No I’m afraid I have other plans." which includes staying in my room for the rest of the day away from you."Okay. Have a nice day Miss Kate." Frank said almost reluctantly. It had been a long time since Kate was addressed as a single lady and to hear him say it surprised her but then she remembered she had no wedding ring on her finger because she'd taken it off in a fit of rage. Hearing Frank address her as 'MCHAPTER FOURAfter dinner, Kate let Frank escort her up to her room then they said their good nights and parted. That night for the first time in a long while she slept with a smile on her face and every night after that.Spending time with Frank and his son made Kate feel alive once again. They would walk by the beach every evening and in the afternoons they'd take a rented boat out into the water or simply just have lunch together and Kate would find herself thinking, if all that was just a dream she wouldn't want to wake up from it at all and it might hurt more than she imagined when it' time to say goodbye. Frank was a kind man, he loves his son more than anything in the world, they've known each other only a few weeks and Kate felt like she'd known Frank for eternity so when he kissed her one evening after having drinks in his penthouse suite, Kate welcomed the gesture, savoured it for as long as it would last. She'd never been with another man besides her
CHAPTER FIVE "Kate get some fuel there's none left!" her mother called from the business centre they owned and operated which was strategically located by the road side unmissable by passers-by. Kate saw that all the computers had shut down the stupid PHCN were at it again she muttered then went to the back room to get a gallon. She crossed to the other side of the street to the black market vendor on the road side in his little kiosk, there was no time to go to the filling station as the shop was overrun by students who are impatient to get their JAMB registrations done."Ba ni three litres. Akwai changee?" Give me three litres. Do you have any change? She showed him the one thousand Naira note and he nodded. While Kate was waiting as the man proceeded to fill her requested litres someone wrapped their arms around her legs and the feeling of deja vu washed over her."Aunty Kate!" The boy peered up at her and recognition slammed into her gut leaving her breathle

It was too spacious, too opulent and equally neglected she was sure that most of the brownstone mansions lining the street outside were just the same as this one and remained unoccupied because the owners couldn't be bothered to give it to someone else. Though she reasoned it might’ve been left to serve as a vacation house for some as it was no secret that many who worked on the island were tempted to own houses
CHAPTER TWO"Yes I’m here in VI, I’ll quickly get the document then I’ll be on my way." Ken assured the person on the other end of the line as he opened the door, got in and shut it behind him before he cut the call and shoved his cell phone into his jacket pocket then he took the stairs two at a time. When he got to his office he found the place scrubbed clean and nodded his approval. He was going to make his secretary get the proposal for the Magnus Hope Centre bid but Ken wanted to do this himself as he could not afford any mistakes that could cost him the coveted bid which he'd worked so hard to get, he had a feeling that this project would make K.C constructions an even bigger name in the country not to mention his recent appearance on the Daily Times as one of the infamous Victoria Island Billionaires alongside many big name young entrepreneurs like him. Ken frowned suddenly when he couldn't find the file at the place where he'd kept it, frustrat
CHAPTER THREEVivian huffed, she was about to protest but thought better of it and got in instead. They were silent on the way back. After Vivian had changed out of the work clothes she'd forgotten to take off before she ran off, she came down stairs and found that Ken had made dinner, he asked her to have a seat to which she didn't protest as she hadn't had anything to eat that afternoon, they both ate in silence except for the clanging of the cutlery. The tension at the dinner table was palpable. They were both silently hurting and angry at each other, Ken doesn't let himself trust easily as he had learned to depend on himself all his life because he didn't want to be vulnerable, and the only people he made an exception to were Markus his best friend and Yemisi. Vivian had come as a pleasant surprise to him, Ken didn't want to fall in love but she drew him in with her charming charisma and kind heart he'd trusted her but she betrayed him with someone who meant the world to
CHAPTER FOURHe'll be damned if he let her leave with his child Ken thought to himself. He couldn't sleep. And after two hours of tossing and turning he gave up. The rain had finally stopped and the wind blowing through the curtains was a bit chilly. He couldn't get Vivian's words out of his head, it was not possible that Markus could betray him like that he was like a brother to him they've known each other for practically all of their lives. On the streets they only had each other. But Yemisi had been his friend in college and there was nothing that suggested she had any feelings for him, granted she'd been clinging onto him for the past few months since he'd broken up with Vivian. Could Vivian have been right? Could she have been set up?Ken remembered that day vividly, it was the day before they were to have the white wedding and Yemisi was there at his place telling him all about Vivian and Markus' affair imploring him to finally see his fiancée's t

She felt a stab in her heart but told herself no more, Ken can go rot in hell for all she cares but she would not let this madness continue."I'm leaving now." She said steely and hoped that her voice was stern enough to make him understand that he shouldn't think about coming after her or her child. But she was surprised when Ken held her arm halting her exit.Vivian wanted to protest but one look in his eyes and she saw the promise in their depths, imploring her to trust him. Common sense told her to run while she still had the chance but instinct told her to give him the benefit of the doubt. But hadn't her instinct failed her before? CHAPTER FIVEA Year Ago...Claire was two hours earlier than she'd hoped to be but no matter, she'd just wait it out. She adjusted the strap of her shoulder bag just as the lift opened at the second floor."Claire you're late." Charity's tone was reproving but Claire rolled her eyes and ignored her."Please, i'm two hours early." Charity was her friend and room mate."And why are you hanging out here? Shouldn't you be working?"Charity pointedly ignored her but then her eyes lit up suddenly and that meant she's got mischief up her sleeve."No I don't wanna hear it.""Come on, I've got this awesome dress I would like you to try on.""Try it on yourself.""I wish." She sighed wistfully. The thing charity was worried about the most was her size, she fretted over the fact that she couldn't fit into all the cute little dresses and jeans she's always wanted.Claire ran her fingers on the silky-smooth fabric. The dress wa
CHAPTER FOURThat tiny feeling of doubt lingered through the next morning, it suffocated her to the point that she thought she couldn't breathe. As she slipped back into her uniform, work was the last thing on her mind right now. She could feel Dimitri's heated gaze boring into her skin and knew he was awake. "You plan on sneaking away like a coward?" he drawled.Claire wasn't sure she'd wanted to sneak away. God she had no idea what she wants right now, her feelings were all over the place. Must be PMS or something. When she swivelled around, she sucked in a sharp breath as she saw his member proudly jutting up and she felt hot all over. Sex right now would mess up her already messed up mind so she forced her gaze to his face. Right now, she couldn't decipher what he was feeling at the moment. he wore the mask of indifference perfectly."I wasn’t actually...""Don't feed me that Crap about what happened between us last night being a mis

How could she forget?"I thought you were the most beautiful woman in the ball room. You took my breath away then, and you take my breath away standing in that cute little uniform." he caught her face in his palms and stared deep into her eyes.Claire couldn't tear her gaze away even if she wanted to. His feelings were so intense it ignited a fire deep within her very soul. "I feel the same way about you as I did when I first met you and there's nothing you can say or do that'll make me feel otherwise." Claire swallowed hard and in one breath said, "even though I was once an escort?"Dimitri shook his head. "No one is perfect darling, your past doesn't define the woman yo

CHAPTER SIX "Why didn't you tell us about it?"Dominic looked away from the window of his water front apartment to his mother, she was holding a brown envelope."I don't want to talk about it. " she was holding the envelope that confirmed his biggest fears, he couldn’t have children of his own.It was a boating accident seven years ago and Dominic was never the same ever since."Your father and I are worried about you. At least come spend some time with us and let us keep you company. " "I'm fine mom, there's nothing to worry about. " She wasn't convinced though. He had bags under his eyes as if he hadn’t been sleeping and there were a couple of empty cans of beer littered on the table. Dominic was stubborn and nothing either of them could do to make him change his mind. These past three weeks were the most miserable weeks of his life. Clara's betrayal had cut deep. There were times in these past three weeks that he'd thought of running to her and
CHAPTER FIVE"You look even more beautiful than I did on my wedding day." Anastasia Magnus gushed as she did the finishing touches on Clara's make up.Clara smiled. "Now you're just buttering me up.""Dominic is doing enough of that already." Anastasia wagged her brows at her friend." I didn't think this day would ever come." "Yeah, well it is here so put that glum look away. You will not get the same drama as my wedding day. " "I know. I'm just being silly. Am glad you're here Ana.""It is time!" Clara's mother ambled into the room with a dazzling smile on her face. "You're glowing my dear.""Thank you mom." her mother allowed herself a good cry before they finally left the room.Clara was being escorted to the limo which will take her to the church where she'll be getting married when a taxi suddenly pulled over in front of the Contas' house and none other than Mark, her ex boyfriend came out of it."You have cheated me Clara.
CHAPTER FOURThe past few days had been hectic, what with all the preparations for the wedding that they didn't have time to see each other. Today was her first ultrasound and Dominic was coming to pick her up himself. She saw his car round the corner which led to his parents' house and stopped in front of her. He got out of the car and came to where she was standing and kissed her full on the mouth. "You look lovely. " "In this?" Clara was wearing one of her mother’s old dresses which she'd mended the other day. It was old and unappealing, how could he possibly think that she looked anything but a homeless person."You look beautiful in anything."He opened the car door for her and she got in before hopped in the driver’s seat. "Make yourself comfortable, the doctor will be with you shortly." the nurse informed them before exiting the room."Do you want a boy or a girl?" Clara asked.Dominic kissed her knuckles as
CHAPTER THREE"Dominic! we were just talking about you" his mother cried as soon they stepped into the room. "Mom, dad, this is Clara Wilson... my wife. " The table went silent and the only sound heard was the clatter of fork slipping from the table to the ground. "Since when?" his dad asked."My dear son, come up stairs will you?" his mother spoke after a long silence. Clara felt so exposed under their scrutiny. "Why don't you make yourself comfortable, i'll be right back." Dominic gave her hand a reassuring squeeze."What is this I hear about you being married to that girl Dominic?"His mother was the first to demand."I hope you know what you’re doing son." his father said."I know that I should've told you all sooner but I couldn't wait.""Marriage is not some game you can play anytime you feel like it." His mother said."There's only one reason why he could possibly want to get married, and so out o
