"It's not good," Belle, sitting on the bed beside me, shook her head as she stared at her phone, a pen between her left fingers, and a paper in front of us with our cafe's revenue calculations. In front of us was a laptop lit up, showing our website, which was empty of visitors.
I sighed, my head throbbing as I leaned against the headboard. "Yeah, I think we're going bankrupt."
My sister disagreed. "Don't be such a pessimist." She said. "We have some things to fix and add." She tilted her head, thinking hard. "We can look for trending coffee flavors and modify them."
' Joy, 'The café we built together was still busy, but not like the last or two week after another trend-setting café opened up a few blocks from our kafe. Plus, they seem to have come up with some interesting menus because it's only been two weeks since they've almost won over my loyal customers.
I don't blame them. Maybe it's just because we're not up to date with current coffee trends. This wasn't a one-off, and normally, two or three days wouldn't bother me, but it had been almost three weeks, and revenue had dropped drastically because of the new cafe. This makes a clear statement that the cafe is so outstanding that it puts us behind.
"But before that we have to do experiments, promotions and more." I sighed. "I'm sure Jane and Elle are more than capable of doing it but we're already running out of funds for the new menu experiment from a few months ago. Plus, we can't buy time to do it because their payday is in five days, and now I have to dip into my own savings to make up the shortfall."
Belle glared. "Shit... that bad?"
I nodded weakly. "Jesse Field's little bit left a big effect."
I grimaced. He was a friend of Owen's, and the guy was interested in being one of the people who funded my cafe when Owen offered. He'd been my business partner for a year, and we'd both been fair with the split.
However, Jesse suddenly stopped doing so six months ago, so I was the one who had to scramble to fund everything with the money I'd saved and invested since I was nineteen. At first, things were going well, and I thought I could handle it alone without any financial help from anyone else. I only had the financial advisors of Belle, who had just graduated from Accounting, and Owen, an expert in any business field.
That's it, and I realize now that I set up this cafe recklessly.
Before I built everything, I refused help from my parents because I was already confident in my abilities. Satisfied that I could do it and make it. Yes, I could, but that was just the beginning. I had yet to prepare myself for more complicated and bizarre problems.
"Plus we have to pay the installments to the bank." I sighed, regretting listening to Jesse take out a business loan from the bank. I never thought that there would be ups and downs; there would always be ups and downs and the need for an emergency fund. "I'm not sure I can live tomorrow." I stared at the ceiling, on the verge of tears.
"Don't say that," Belle snapped in a small tone. "We have to tell Dad."
I shook my head. "I don't think so," I replied. "I overheard Mom and Dad's conversation after dinner. They lost a big investor."
Her eyes widened, surprised.
And for a few moments, only a cruel horror-struck.
Belle let out a rough breath, her mouth still gaping in disbelief and her eyes blank. I knew she was shocked. So shocked and disbelieving. I was like that, too, and still am.
"For God's sake, why do problems attack us so relentlessly?" she sighed, her voice very weak and full of sadness.
I shook my head, swallowing roughly. "I don't know. It's..." I didn't know what it was. Some kind of fate? Or was there a business enemy who didn't like us? I don't know, but I don't want to assume the worst. "It's God's will."
"But this..." Belle paused.
I looked at her. "Don't let them know."
She nodded. "Of course, I won't talk about it." She said. "We have to find something. A way out. Won't Killian help?" she asked.
"He has a lot of expenses. His father has cancer." I replied.
"I'm so sad for him," Belle breathed and let it out quietly. "Maybe we can ask for another loan,"
I shook my head. "Digging a hole is very inefficient, Belle. You know that."
"But there's no other way..do I have to sell my shoes?"
"No. No." I shook my head hard. "This is my problem which you have nothing to do with."
"But I'm your financial advisor."
"Shocker."
"There's no other way but to sell it."
"I told you no."
"I did buy it with my own money, and Ace already said that he'll replace it when he grows up," she said jokingly. "Believe me, that's the only way out. Do you want granpa to know this?"
I shook my head. That last one really was the forbidden path. Grandpa had never seen me as his granddaughter after my divorce. He regarded me as a tool for his business transactions, and my divorce made the cooperation between our family and the Sanchez family void. That's why I refused to come until Regina's weeding.
I couldn't help the emotion in my chest when my grandfather looked at me and Ace like we were parasites in his life. I also couldn't help myself if my grandfather let out an expletive when I unknowingly came to borrow money. It was a dangerous path that I certainly wouldn't take at any time. He could have taken it as an opportunity like he did back then. Getting me close to the President's son or some other rich person's son.
And selling Belle's expensive shoes? No, I won't. That's forbidden money. I can't take other people's money to cover my own problems. There were different ways, I was sure there were way out.. and, I don't know, maybe all I was doing was waiting for a miracle?
"I think I need alcohol or sleeping pills to make me pass out." I said.
"Me too,"
**
After tidying up Ace's room, I came out of the room and headed for the kitchen to prepare Ace's lunch. Belle had picked him up from pre-kindergarten, and now they were going for a walk and playing at the mall. Maybe they'll be back a little later, so I won't be bothered with Ace while I'm busy in the kitchen because he always did that.
"Hey, Dad."
My dad was sitting on a stool in the kitchen with a tablet in his hand showing the stock charts. He turned to me briefly and smiled softly. "Hey. You gonna make lunch for Ace?"
I nodded. "Yeah, but they still seem to be playing at the mall, so I can still take my time. Would you like some coffee?"
"Sure." He replied.
I started preparing his coffee while occasionally glancing at him, who seemed focused on his tablet. I wanted to ask about what I had heard yesterday after dinner, and there was no intention behind it. I'm just worried about him because what he's facing now is not easy.
I'm almost stressed out with my own problems that are smaller than what my father is facing. I was able to sleep peacefully last night because of the sleeping pills I took, but I can't imagine if my father could even sleep with pills and stop thinking about everything or not.
"Is there a problem at the office, Dad?" I asked as I placed the coffee on the table before him.
"Hm?" he put down his tablet, looking at me with a furrowed brow.
"That time Mommy told me that you came back early from Rome because of something at the office."
"Nothing. Just a normal problem. You don't have to worry." He replied with another smile and then took a sip of his coffee.
I raised my eyebrows. "Is it really like that? Because I know when you're lying."
He shook his head and pondered briefly as I prepared Ace's food. "One of our big investors pulled all his shares." He said. He looked at me with a haggard and haggard expression, something he rarely hid. Daddy was always open about everything, so we could all guess his expression when he lied or hid something. "Well, so I have to find a way. Seek the kindness of others to help fix our problems."
"Until when?" I asked softly. My heart sank when I saw his lost face.
"One month."
I glared. "That's very little time. If you can't find help, then the investors will leave, Dad. Your company will go bankrupt."
"True, but right now I'm trying to do everything I can."
I sighed, looking at him impatiently.
"Don't worry, I can take care of it." My father smiled reassuringly. "Don't think too much about all this."
I pondered, looking at him, who was refocusing on his tablet. "I can sell my cafe building to cover the losses." The words spontaneously came out of a momentary, wild thought.
He looked at me in surprise. "No, Bella. You can't sell it."
I didn't answer anything. The building was paid off, and the price was high. If I sold it, then it could cover the loss of my father's company, pay off some of my debts, and give my employees their final severance pay. That's easy. But the consequence was... I wouldn't have a cafe anymore.
"Stop that," Dad said firmly.
"But, Dad-"
"If you keep talking about it, I don't want to talk to you anymore." He cut me off. He shook his head. "I'll take care of it, sweetheart. I promise. Whatever it is, it won't starve us. I'm sure it won't take long. Trust me." My father looked at me with a look of complete confidence. Unwavering and so trusting.
But what if this was out of his hands? If it's worse than the usual problems that come along?
I chose to give in and nod at his words rather than having to argue anymore. It coincided with the cheerful singing of Belle and Ace, who had just walked into the kitchen.
"Hi, baby." I approached Ace, who ran up to me, I squatted down to kiss his cheek, and he immediately took small steps toward his grandfather. My dad sat him on his lap.
"So happy, huh?" my dad asked Ace.
"I'm very happy, Nonno," he said as he looked at my father.
"Oh yeah? What did you give my Ace to make him this happy?" Dad asked Belle.
"You didn't give him anything weird, did you?" I looked at Belle suspiciously.
Belle drained her water and shook her head. "I didn't give him anything forbidden. We were just playing on the playground."
"I'm playing with Papa!" exclaimed Ace happily. His innocent smile and his words made me flinch.
"What?" I asked, surprised. The blood receding from my face, I looked at Belle pale.
"Belle?" my father looked at Belle, full of question marks.
"No big deal. There was a man about Dad's age-he was alone and looked sad staring at the children's playground. Ace approached him when he accidentally threw a ball at the man's face, and Ace invited him to play together. That man told me that he missed his children and his wife whom he had left behind because he cheated on her. Now, he's lost track of his family, and now he fell into the puddle of regret," Belle answered at length while eating the cookies in the jar. "He wanted to hear Ace call him Papa, so Ace did."
"Are you telling the truth?"
"Of course. Why would I lie." Belle replied casually.
Ace nodded. "Papa will buy me lots of legos, Momma.." Ace said.
"You can't just let Ace hang out with strangers, Belle." Dad said quietly.
"He's a good guy, Dad. Chill." Belle replied.
"You can't know a person's character in one meeting, Belle." Dad added.
I looked at Ace, who was staring at us in confusion. "What did I say? Didn't you hear Momma about not getting close to people we don't know?" I asked Ace gently.
"But he's Papa, Momma!"
"He's not."
"Yes, Momma. Papa is also going to buy me a big car. Papa says he has a lot at home and he's going to give me five," Ace held up his five fingers.
"Why don't you ask for a plane, kiddo?" my father chided.
"Papa's afraid of planes."
My blood flow seemed to stop, but I neutralized it quickly. Of course, there was no way. Of all the people in Massachusets... there's no way it's him. It was just a stupid coincidence.
I looked at Belle, who was chuckling softly and relaxed. If she had met that man, she would have said something to me because Belle loves me so much that she defended me from him when our divorce happened.
"But I'm going to ask him to buy me a shoe company so that I can pay off the debt to Auntie," Ace said, which provoked laughter from all of us.
I just shook my head. He must be rambling, I snorted. "Yes, yes, yes, your papa must be very rich. Well, now you should eat lunch, and take a nap."

I spent some time meeting some people from my college alumni who could help with my appeal for a fair outcome. Yes, I looked for more investors for my cafe, but it ended in uncertainty. It ended with me sitting in front of my computer and staring blankly at the park behind my cafe. Everything was completely abstract and chaotic. I didn't know the future or darkness I would face.I should have closed the café before everything went wrong because I was stalling for time, and I couldn't keep raking in my savings because I had Ace to support. It was his future savings, and I really had to give him the best.On the other hand, some people depended on me. Some people would lose their jobs if I closed the cafe, and there were my parents who would be disappointed in me. Now I'm really stuck. My head throbbed roughly. I massaged it and stopped when there was a knock on my door. I closed my eyes briefly and calmed myself before speaking, "Come in," I said.Elle, my sweetest employee, appeared a
His gaze was fixed on me. My heart raced as a whirlwind of emotions flooded my mind.My pulse quickens, and my stomach tightens with worry and nostalgia. Seeing Sebastian after so long stirred up memories I thought I had buried deep in my heart. There's a flash of vulnerability hidden behind the veil of calmness I'm trying to maintain. The air crackled with tension as I prepared myself for whatever was happening next, and I tried to calm myself with that."What are you doing here?"Sebastian wasn't the same, and how stupid was it that I thought he would be kinder and gentler? What happened was the exact opposite. The man was looking more and more dangerous. More... charming and deceptive. Maturity radiate better in him. Everything about his physique was already very alluring from the first time I saw him, and it had increased many times over. However, I knew that it was just a mask. A deliberate facade to attract more victims, to cover up all the rottenness inside him.I should have k
I was wearing a t-shirt, jeans and a leather jacket as I left my house to head to the Club after spending an hour getting Ace to sleep. He didn't want to be separated from his legos and was eager to invite anyone to play with him.Elizabeth even fell asleep in the playroom, hugging the lego while accompanying Ace to play in the playroom. Ace is good with time limits, though. He stopped when he saw Elizabeth was bored and then he would rest too. It is only when he is exhausted that I can put him to bed.Now I was in front of Kate's older brother; Beau's Club, and of course with Kate because I never dared to come here alone. Beau's Club is one of those expensive clubs with a clientele that doesn't mess around, and I'm just afraid of looking like a lost woman if I show up alone.A large bodyguard blocked our entrance. Kate widened her eyes and snorted. "Seriously! You don't know me?" with her chatty voice, she started to scold the man, but then the man next to him whispered, and his ster
"Thank you for today." Dante Romano's words made me stop as I entered my house."You're welcome. It was a good show anyway," I smiled at him."Really? I didn't expect you to like it. You were silent throughout, making me think that you don't like those kinds of social events.""Ah, no. I was just tired.""Take a rest, then. I'm sorry, today I seem to have been very troublesome for you." He said with a guilty look.I could only nod my head and smile slightly. I was still standing in the courtyard when the Italian President's son's car drove away and disappeared behind the fence of my parents' mansion. I immediately took off my smile, turned flat, and breathed a sigh of relief that I was free from the damn fake attitude that I had to wear for the past two hours. It was exhausting, it wasn't me.This must all be because of my grandfather. A few hours ago, Vito and Stella-his girlfriend just come from Milan to Boston on business, and they were with the President's son, which surprised me
Everything in my body froze. My eyes widened to look at my son, who was staring at Sebastian with his big eyes.At the same time, Ace's crying subsided. He even immediately clung to Sebastian's leg.Sebastian released his embrace on my body and looked at Ace silently. I looked at him, his expression shocked, but there was another mixture that I couldn't decipher."Papa. .. buy me a train, will you? Please Papa...," Ace said as he pulled Sebastian's hand, asking for attention. His seductive expression appeared, and he blinked his blue eyes a few times; it was what he had always used to get someone to comply with his requests.Ten seconds...Twenty seconds.Sebastian was silent.I was silent, too. Frozen with my breath rising and falling. I wondered what Sebastian would do."Buy me a real train, Papa! Now!" Ace finally cried out in annoyance because Sebastian was silent. Ace went back to crying, rolling on the floor while shouting the word real train over and over again.A few seconds a
I sat on the sofa, linking my fingers, looking down at the police officer's room. I've been here for almost three hours, waiting for Vito with Stella, and Mommy. But there was no sign of Vito coming out of the interrogation room."Has this news reached your grandpa?" Mommy asked me."If there hasn't been a call from him then he still doesn't know," I answered quietly, wringing my fingers in agitation. "What if he doens't knows?" I asked her."Then he must be told," she replied. "Only he can provide a way out."I wasn't sure about that because Vito was the golden boy of our extended family because of his political connections that could make Grandfather increase his power. On the other hand, I felt Grandfather wouldn't be happy because Sebastian Sanchez had always been in the water in the desert for him. He wouldn't let that opportunity slip away. He'd probably let Vito go to jail somehow and lick Sebastian's boots to make my ex-bastard's ego happy. The door opened, and the attorney ca
I could hardly close my eyes, always open with anxiety and restlessness. My mind couldn't stop running. I was already wandering to images of Ace being snatched from my arms.I lay beside my son and held him, stroking Ace's thick black hair and handsome face as he slept peacefully. Can't imagine what would have happened to me if Sebastian had taken him away.Even my heart hurts now.I may not be able to breathe if the time came.I hugged Ace when the back of my eyes felt stung. I held it in because I didn't want to cry. If I cry, it wouldn't stop, and it would be a loud cry and disturb Ace. I didn't want him to see me crying. He would be sad, too.I kissed his forehead and held him while staring blankly at the blue window curtains in Ace's room. I'll be like this until my head is exhausted, and then sleep. But the vibration on my cell phone on the table made me pull my gaze towards it. What kind of crazy person calls at two o'clock at night? I sighed softly and moved slightly to reach

Five years later. The sound of joyful laughter fills our warm living room. I rubbed my forehead, holding back a smile as I watched our twins, Athena and Azriel, run around yelling at each other. Both were still wearing the superhero costumes they got from Janet's birthday party, complete with fluttering red capes as they ran around the living room."Nana! Azzy! That's enough!" I called out, trying to be a bit chatty even though it was hard to hold back my laughter at their behaviour. "Stop chasing each other around the house. If you want to play superhero, do it in the garden!"Athena paused for a moment, looking at me with wide eyes full of innocence. But instead of obeying, the girl shook her head quickly, grinning as she turned to chase after her twin, who ran away. "I don't want to go outside! It's fun here!" she said, her cheerful laughter filling the room."Yes, but I will lose my sanity if you two keep shouting like this!" I tried to put on a angry face, but Azriel just jumped
Sleepiness strikes hard because I haven't slept in two days. It’s crawls over my eyes, making them feel heavy, yet every time I close my eyes, flashes of horror always appear, stopping me from falling into a comfortable sleep. The clock on the wall ticked softly, breaking the silence of the night that felt too quiet. But suddenly, a rumbling sound came from outside. The sound of slamming doors and hurried footsteps. It gets closer, echoing up to my bedroom door, then...The door opened with a bang, and Killian walked in with a tense face. Without a word, he grabs my hand, gripping it roughly. "We're leaving now," he said coldly, his voice low but filled with a frightening haste."What happened?" I demanded, resisting his grip even though there was barely any strength in the resistance. "Don't ask too many questions," he said coldly as he dragged me out of the room, his steps quick, almost running. We walked down the creaking stairs through the narrow, dimly lit hallways. I tried to
Isabella POV.I couldn't sleep. I couldn't close my eyes completely. I stared at the scenery behind the glass. I was expecting something. To someone to come and get me. Sebastian. I wish Sebastian were here.I hug my belly tightly, holding my babies. My chest feels tight, my heart beating wildly in the silence of the night that feels so foreign. Outside, the waves were constantly crashing against the cliff, making a sound that somehow made my body tense up even more. Beyond the windowpane, I could only see the dark, endless sea with no sign of life. Only my own shadow was faintly reflected, looking so fragile in the middle of this cold room.I rubbed my stomach lightly, trying to give warmth to my two unborn babies, hoping they could feel my false calm. "Everything will be okay," I whispered almost silently, more to calm myself than for them. But, I knew I needed to reassure them and tell them their mother would fight. My heart refused to calm down, pounding like it was rebelling
The broken glass on the floor scattered like the shattered remnants of my hope with each passing minute without Isabella by my side. I stared at Marc and Diaz with a sharp look to make them tremble. My chest was beating hard, each beat full of anger and fear that couldn't be suppressed."Useless," I hissed, my voice hoarse and low. They both looked down, not daring to raise their heads.Marc tried to speak, his voice sounding weak, like a child caught in the act. "We've checked the small ports, contacted everyone who might know their whereabouts—""But it came up empty, didn't it?" I cut in, hitting the table so hard that Marc jerked back. "My wife is missing somewhere, and you guys can only stand here like fools!"I looked at Diaz, who gulped, his eyes troubled as he looked at me. But I didn't give him a chance. Every second without news of Isabella made my blood boil. To think that she might be trapped in the hands of a bastard like Killian... my mind was filled with images of a t
My head throbbed violently as the harsh sunlight pierced my eyelids. Heavily, I sat up, trying to understand where I was. Rough wooden walls and small windows with dull curtains emitted light all around me, making this room feel even more alien and rough. My heartbeat quickened, panic creeping up from my toes to my head. This was not a room on our private island, not a place I recognized. The walls were weathered, and the overpowering scent of sea salt pierced my nose, mixed with the damp, unfamiliar smell of wood. The memories swirl, fragment by fragment, starting to return, like pieces of a nightmare creeping in slowly. The silent night on the island, Killian's sudden grip, the thin, cold smile on his face, then the hallways of the house echoing with unfamiliar steps. My memory stops at the moment he pulls me towards the boat, waiting at the dock, as I struggle, trying to escape. But all my efforts were in vain. Killian's grip was like an iron shackle I couldn't break.I stood uns
"I'll be back tomorrow morning before you wake up." Sebastian's voice sounded lazy from our connected call. "I have so many things to take care of. I promise we'll have a good time once I'm done with all this. But I feel bad leaving you alone there."I chuckled softly. "Yeah, that's okay. There's Janet here. I don't feel alone."He chuckled on the other end of the line, his low laugh almost drowned out by the slightly crackling signal. "Yeah, my cousin with her... unique personality," he continued, his voice trying to sound serious but instead sounding full of warmth. "She'll probably set your whole life in pink if you let her. Just make sure she doesn't end up redecorating our house or... suggesting weird names for our baby."I smiled, imagining Janet, who could vigorously transform the house into a sea of pink, complete with flashy accessories. It was like relentless energy ready to fill every corner of the room, chasing away any loneliness I might feel while Sebastian was away. "T
"It looks like your Abuelo has other ambitions."Apparently, he seemed to welcome me not because I was his grandson's wife but because we had a son, and two more twins were about to come out to greet the world. It was like he welcomed a treasure and an asset rather than a great-grandchild. It made me wonder how Sebastian's father had grown up under pressure from his father and how Sebastian had grown up under pressure from his grandfather.I nestled comfortably on his chest. He sat on a lounge chair, his hands cradling my growing belly. In front of us is a beach and a vast ocean. It was a beautiful sight. Sebastian tightens his arms around me, his warmth contrasting with the sea breeze gently brushing against my skin. In front of the calm blue sea, I can feel everything, as well as the freedom that has been almost foreign since meeting his grandfather.Sebastian bowed his head, his lips touching my head gently. "I want our kids to have a choice," he whispers, his voice almost drowne
Silence hung in the air as Sebastian's grandfather folded his arms, his eyes never leaving my face. With a small gesture, he nodded as if encouraging himself to continue the conversation that, perhaps, he had planned for so long."And... what about your son? Ace? Your father told me that he is a cheerful and smart boy." His voice was low, but his tone was unmistakable. Demanding an answer, he turned to Sebastian and to me.I let out a small sigh, trying to keep my smile genuine as I replied, "Ace is a wonderful boy. Smart, full of energy, and very curious." Talking about my son in front of someone who looked so critical felt strange, but I didn't want to show any doubt.Sebastian, who had been standing quietly beside me, shifted slightly. His arm slowly wrapped around my waist, signaling he wouldn't let me face this alone."Oh, really?" he looked at us, alternating between me and Sebastian. A faint light in his eyes showed interest, albeit with skepticism. "He must meet me one day. I
The phone in my hand vibrated softly, displaying a name that instantly warmed my chest. Ace's face appeared on the screen with one touch, and his wide smile greeted me. His hair was a little messy, as usual, and his school uniform was already rumpled here and there. "Momma!" he exclaimed cheerfully. "I just got home from school!" Seeing his face is always like a breath of fresh air in the thick Mexico City air. I smiled softly, adjusting the position of my phone so I could see him better. "How was your day at school, baby?" Ace shrugged his little shoulders, his face glistening with childlike satisfaction. "Good! I learned about dinosaurs today. They're cool, Mom. I like T-Rex, but my friends say I look like a velociraptor." He chuckles, his cheeks slightly flushed with excitement. I chuckled softly my feelings had drifted to a lighter place with his laughter. "Oh? Velociraptor, huh? You're fast like them." "I'm smart too!" he added quickly, his face full of confidence. "
