Chapter 8 An Exotic Bug (I)

Author: Guai Kai Jun

As soon as Carl got into the back garden, he was immediately shocked at the change in the surroundings and cried out in his heart, "What happened? Is this our back garden?" He looked around, trying to find any familiar landmark.

"Oh, my god, these people must have too much free time..." Carl could not help exclaiming in astonishment. The previous garbage hill had been turned into neatly organized garbage cubes, which were then stacked into endless orderly garbage walls.

"No! These people could not have come here merely to help us tidy up the back garden!" Among the walls, Carl recognized some old junk that had been buried at the bottom of the garbage hill.

The garbage hill had been scavenged through. No one would do this even if he wanted to sort out the rubbish.

Carl continued to explore. Sure enough, some of the rubbish that was familiar to him were placed outside, in orderly rows.

"What's this?" Carl looked at the iron plate in front of him. There was a deep scratch on it, made by something unknown!

Ordinary metal weapons would have made a clean cut. Though the plate was cut from the middle, it had not been cut neatly in half and a terrifying hole was left in the center instead.

Carl walked all the way in and the further in he walked, the more frightened he became.

"Some people must have been fighting throughout the whole garden!" Carl checked the traces of the battle that took place. It was evident everywhere around him and he could barely tell what these things originally were.

Blade marks could be seen on all four sides of the garbage walls. The further he went in, the more blade marks there were.

At this time, Carl became a little nervous. He was fearless, but he had never been in such a dangerous situation before! It was apparent that some lethal weapons were used in the battle here! As a young adult, Carl thought that it could be too risky for him to get involved.

Carl advanced hesitantly and went further into the depths of the back garden.

"Or... I might as well go back..." After much wavering, Carl finally decided to go back. Just when he took a few steps, a violent commotion could be heard from a nearby site.

"Howl!" A roar that he had never heard before reached Carl's ears from a distance.

"What the hell!" Carl panicked. Hurriedly, he squatted by a pile of debris on the side, only to see countless pieces of rubbish being flung violently into the air, at a somewhat close distance.

"Something is approaching!" Carl sensed the impending danger and kept urging his legs to move, but they failed to obey his instructions. Thus, he was rooted helplessly to the spot, watching the thing that caused the ruckus, thrusting its way toward him.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" All of a sudden, several gunshots rang out!

The sudden blasts of gunshots sent a shudder through Carl. Eventually, he regained control of his previously unmoving legs.

"Hurry up! Move..." He shouted wildly in his heart but merely managed to stagger two steps forward. How the hell could he escape from this hazardous area?!

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"Howl! Howl! Howl!"

Alien screams and gunshots rang out continuously and rapidly. Meanwhile, a six-legged monster and a human figure suddenly came into Carl's sight.

The six-legged monster used four of its feet to escape and dodged the man's gunshots either by moving swiftly on the ground or climbing on the walls around.

Meanwhile, two of its fore tentacles kept slicing into the rubbish walls in front and it threw the pieces at its enemy.

The two tentacles looked hard and smooth and had numerous barbs on them. Anyone with sharp eyes could tell that the tentacles could instantly pierce and kill a person, leaving the same horrifying holes in their bodies, much like those in the steel plates.

The human had two silver pistols in an incredibly unique style. They looked rather heavy, but the man hefted them effortlessly, as if they were made of paper.

The bullets shot from the guns had extraordinary power, which could easily knock back and even smash those large pieces of trash thrown by the beast. Occasionally, several bullets would hit the beast and draw out droplets of green colored blood.

When Carl witnessed this, he could not help thinking about the Zergs the dean mentioned previously. This beast with an ugly face and a weird body must be one of them. If not, what else could it be?

"What should I do?! What should I do now?!" The beast and the warrior were getting closer and closer. Carl's face was as white as a sheet, but how could he escape when his legs seemed to have no power at all?

"Howl!" The beast roared right in front of him and Carl was petrified with fear. Thus, the beast and the warrior discovered him!

"A civilian?!" The man with pistols was very shocked! Soldiers had locked down this region, so how could there be a civilian?

The moment the beast saw Carl, it wanted to kill him, so it hopped, waved its sharp blades and rushed straight toward Carl.

Carl saw its ugly face coming closer and was fully aware that he would eventually be brutally slaughtered by its pointed fangs, if not by its sharp tentacles. There was no chance for him to survive!

There was a loud bang before the sharp tentacles touched Carl. Then a figure flashed across and picked Carl up by his waist. They narrowly escaped the attack from the two deadly tentacles!

The warrior held Carl in a firm grip and fell onto the ground, leaving clear dragging marks in the sand and there were even traces of dark blood.

They lay languidly on the ground and Carl felt dizzy from the impact of the fall. The man gasped and said through gritted teeth, "Silly boy! Why did you just stand still and wait for the blow to fall?"

Carl stared blankly at the warrior, whose face was pale and forehead was awash in cold sweat. When Carl put his hands on the ground to support himself, he felt two streams of hot and humid liquid flowing onto the back of his hands.

"You're injured..." Carl stated in a trembling voice.

Though the man breathed heavily, he pretended to be calm and said, "Fortunately, I was not fatally wounded... Alright, boy, run away quickly. I'll cover you..."

Before he could finish speaking, Carl, saw the beast towering before him and immediately shouted loudly, "Watch out!"

The man reacted very quickly—he grabbed Carl's clothes with his right hand and rolled sideways with him.

In a whirl of dust, Carl looked back and saw that the beast's double tentacles were imbedded deep into the hard ground. It was evident that its killing power was very destructive.

Fortunately, its tentacles were so deeply imbedded that the beast found it hard to pull them out!

"Oh, wow... kid, leave now!" The warrior also noticed this. He could not wait to seize this chance to fire a few shots at the disgusting beast!

Even as he spoke, this warrior had already reached for his guns. With a flash of silver light, two pistols appeared in his hands out of nowhere!

His skill startled Carl and an idea suddenly struck him: this man was a War Spirit warrior!
