A Steamy Encounter

Elise's POV.

"Mommy, you said that he was dead," Natalie said, her voice shaking.

I felt the wind knock out of me, I'd hoped she'd never find out like this. Not like this.

I exhaled sharply and took slow strides toward her. As I got to her front, I bent down to her level and pulled her into a hug.

It wasn't the time to explain anything to her but just comfort her. She must be thinking badly of me.

"Mommy, why did you lie?" a sob escaped her lips.

My heart broke as I heard her sob "Baby, I'm sorry. Mommy didn't mean to lie to you,"

I stroked her hair from behind and kissed her gently on the neck. "I wanted the best for you and that's why I never told you the truth,"

There was no need for me to continue in my lies. Natalie was a smart girl and I couldn't try to convince her that she heard otherwise. It might make her more upset.

She started crying and my heart began aching terribly. I pulled away from the hug and wiped her tears away.
