Chapter Sixty-Six

 woke several times that night, expecting to find a text from Carter, but nothing came.

At last, at seven AM, after only a few hours of sleep, I flipped on my TV to the news. To my surprise, there was nothing on the news about the arrest at sea. Somehow, even though I didn’t see any cameras around, I felt like it should have been more high-profile than it was.

I’d have to rush to get to work on time, but I hadn’t taken a shower last night. Not only did I feel dirty from the interrogation room, but I also had the smells of the ocean on me still. Not to mention the fact that Carter and I had sex and I hadn’t been able to clean myself from that.

During my shower, I heard my phone go off a couple times, but I didn’t think anything of it. Finally, when I got out, I saw a message from Maddy.
