Chapter 74: Attacked

last update Last Updated: 2025-02-12 20:28:12

Adrian’s Point Of View

The morning sunlight streamed through the bedroom window, casting an eerie glow across the floor. I had barely pulled on my shirt when my phone buzzed on the nightstand. The sharp, urgent ring sent a chill down my spine. Something was wrong.

“Mr. Steele,” the voice on the other end belonged to Detective Roy, his tone clipped and professional, but there was something underneath, something I didn’t like. “You need to get to St. Andrews Hospital. Your mother was attacked in holding early this morning.”

My breath hitched. Attacked?

For a moment, I forgot how to move. My fingers clenched the phone so tightly I thought it might crack. My mother, Evelyn Steele, proud, untouchable, fucking indestructible had been attacked in a damn jail cell? I could barely process the words.

“Is she alive?” My voice came out hoarse, barely above a whisper.

“She was stable when she was brought in, but I’d suggest getting here as soon as possible.”

I was already moving. “I’m on my way.”

Emma’s Point Of View I was in my office, surrounded by my event planning team, discussing final details for an upcoming wedding of my client. The air buzzed with last-minute decisions.. floral arrangements, catering menus, seating charts. My assistant, Edith, was taking notes at lightning speed, trying to keep up with the whirlwind of ideas being thrown around.I was mid-sentence, discussing lighting options, when the door slammed open. The sound cracked through the room like a gunshot, making everyone jump. My eyes snapped to the entrance just in time to see Adrian storming in, his face thunderous with barely contained rage.Behind him, Edith scrambled to catch up, her expression flustered. “Mr. Steele, you can’t just barge in....”“I need a fucking word with Emma,” he growled, his eyes locked on me like a predator who had finally cornered its prey.A sick feeling twisted in my stomach. What the hell is going on?I lifted a hand, signaling Edith to let it go. “It’s fine. Everyone, c

Emma’s Point Of View “How dare he?” My voice was sharp, shaking with fury. “How dare he try to take my daughter from me?” I paced the living room, my hands clenched into fists so tight my nails dug into my palms. My entire body trembled with frustration, anger, and an overwhelming sense of injustice.Ryan sat on the couch, watching me with that usual calm, calculated look he always had when I was spiraling. But I didn’t care. I couldn’t sit still, couldn’t pretend like I wasn’t on the verge of breaking apart.“That bastard wasn’t even in our lives for years!” I shouted, pacing faster, my heart pounding against my ribs. “Years, Ryan! He walked away! Left us like we were nothing! And now... now he has the fucking nerve to come back and try to steal my baby from me?”My breath was coming out ragged, my chest rising and falling rapidly. I couldn’t lose Lily. I wouldn’t.“Emma,” Ryan said gently, but I shook my head, cutting him off.“No,” I snapped. “He has no right. None. I raised her.

Emma’s Point of ViewI crouched in front of Lily, brushing a stray curl from her forehead. Her big brown eyes stared up at me with innocent curiosity, unaware of the storm raging inside me.“Baby, you know Mommy loves you, right?” My voice was gentle, but my grip on her tiny shoulders was firm, as if holding on to her would keep her safe from the chaos threatening to tear our world apart.Lily nodded, her small hands gripping her lunchbox tightly. “I know, Mommy.”I pulled her into a tight embrace, inhaling her sweet scent, committing this moment to memory. Every time I let her go, I felt like I was losing a piece of myself. The school bell rang, loud and sharp, breaking through my fear-laced thoughts.“Mommy, I’ll be late,” Lily said, pulling back just enough to look at me.I forced a smile, pressing a quick kiss to her forehead before reluctantly letting her go. “Go on, baby. Have a great day, okay?”I watched her small figure disappear through the school gates, my heart pounding un

Emma’s Point of ViewI never thought I’d be the kind of person to stake out someone’s house, but here I was, sitting in a car with Ryan, watching Cathrina’s apartment like we were in some damn crime thriller. The heater hummed softly, filling the silence between us, but it did nothing to warm the cold dread sitting in my stomach. The sun had long dipped below the horizon, casting an eerie glow over the quiet street. It had been hours since she ran, and she still hadn’t come back. My fingers tapped anxiously against my lap, my thoughts spiraling into the worst possible scenarios.Ryan, who had been staring out the window, finally turned to look at me. “Emma, you okay?”I let out a short, humorless laugh. “No, Ryan. I’m not okay.” My voice cracked, and I hated the way it made me sound.. small, weak, desperate. But I was.He didn’t say anything at first, just watched me like he was trying to piece together how to fix me.“My daughter…” I swallowed hard. “If we don’t figure this out, if w

Emma’s Point of ViewHospitals had a way of making time feel like it wasn’t moving. The fluorescent lights overhead buzzed softly, casting an eerie glow on the sterile white walls. The scent of antiseptic filled my nostrils, mingling with the faint aroma of coffee from a vending machine down the hall. I sat stiffly in one of the hard plastic chairs, my legs bouncing anxiously as I tried to get my breathing under control. It had taken everything in me to fight off the panic attack earlier. I had used the same breathing techniques I had learned in therapy back in England... the four deep inhales, holding for a beat, and then the long exhale through my mouth. Thanks to Ryan too It worked. Kind of. My breath had steadied, but the fear? That still clung to me, gnawing at the edges of my sanity.Ryan sat beside me, his knee nearly touching mine, his presence the only thing keeping me from spiraling. He had barely let go of my hand since we arrived, his thumb rubbing small, soothing circles

Emma’s Point of ViewA week. That was all the time I had left before the custody hearing. Seven days to prove my innocence, to fight for my daughter, to make sure Adrian didn’t win. But what if I couldn’t? What if the judge ruled in his favor? The mere thought of losing her made my stomach twist into painful knots. I had fought so hard, endured so much, and yet the finish line still felt impossibly far away.I sat on the couch, gripping a cup of coffee that had gone cold in my hands, barely registering Ryan’s presence beside me. His warm hand rested on my knee, his thumb moving in slow, soothing circles.“Emma, you have to breathe,” he murmured, his voice steady, calm, so unlike the storm raging inside me.I let out a shaky breath. “I can’t stop thinking about it. If the judge doesn’t believe me...”“They will,” he cut in firmly. “We have enough to prove Adrian isn’t the saint he pretends to be. You’re not alone in this, Emma. The court will not give custody to an absentia father for

Adrian’s Point Of View I needed to get a glass of water, hence I walked out of my room and headed for the kitchen. I was halfway down the staircase when I heard my mother’s voice, sharp and commanding, from behind a closed door.“I don’t want excuses,” she snapped, her tone dripping with impatience. “Blacklist her agency. I think their name is B. Carter Events or something. Make sure the word spreads in the industry, I want all their clients to pull out.”My steps halted. My chest tightened as I strained to hear more. A silence stretched for a moment before she spoke again.“Exactly. I want results before the week runs out.”A slow burn of anger ignited inside me. My fists clenched at my sides. I knew my mother was capable of cruelty, but this, this was calculated destruction. She wasn’t just trying to take Lily from Emma, she was trying to rip apart everything she had left.Without thinking, I pushed the door open. She flinched at my sudden entrance, her eyes widening in brief surpr

  • A Second Chance With Mr Steele   Chapter 82: Taking Back Control

Emma's Point Of ViewThe car ride was cold, silent, and suffocating. The tension between Ryan and me was thick enough to slice through with a knife. He was fuming, his grip tight on the steering wheel as he maneuvered through the busy New York streets. I could still hear his angry voice from earlier, the arguments that put us at slight odds still echoing in my head like a song on repeat."You make it look like you're trying so damn hard to be proven innocent for Adrian!"That had been the final straw. I had slapped him across the face so fast, my palm still tingled from the impact."I will not stand here and let you speak to me like that! If you won't come with me, then I'll go alone!"Ryan, as stubborn as ever, had eventually caved and followed. Now, here we were, nearing the café where I was about to meet Adrian. I folded my arms across my chest, staring blankly out the window, but my mind was a storm of emotions. Anxiety, frustration, even a hint of relief. I wanted answers. I need

Adrian’s Point Of View“Lily hurry up Sweetheart” I yelled from the sitting room. Checking my wristwatch it was a few minutes past 7am. I needed to drop off Lily at school before 8am, then head to the hospital to see Celia. I couldn't rest easy all night, i’d have gone to the hospital last night but it's too risky to take lily with me last night and she couldn't stay home alone. Then I heard little footsteps dragging my attention back to the stairs as Lily descended. I quickly stood up and walked up to her, picking her off the ground to hasten the walk, I sat her in her car seat and off we sped into the road. It wasn't long until we got to her school, hurriedly I helped her into the gates and rushed back into the car and started the car. At the speed of light I hit the road, only stopping at the hospital entrance. I hurried in and asked the nurse at the station “Excuse me, could I see Celia Guerrero, she was brought in last night” I asked“Hold on please” she scrambled on her keyb

Celia’s Point of View“My plans were finally falling into place” I murmured drumming my fingers rhythmically against the steering wheel as I drive into the busy roads of New York City, a sly smile playing at my lips as I drove through the dimly Lit streets. Despite approaching evening, The city was alive and buzzing with its usual chaosblaring horns, distant sirens, the occasional flicker of neon signs cutting through the darkness. But none of it mattered. Not tonight. Tonight was about control, about setting the pieces in place for the inevitable checkmate. The anticipation bubbling inside me was almost intoxicating.I pulled into the parking lot of a small, nondescript restaurant, a hole-in-the-wall place tucked away in a forgotten part of the city. I exhaled sharply, reaching for the hoodie on the passenger seat. Pulling it over my head, I adjusted the baseball cap snugly before sliding on a pair of oversized dark shades. A quick glance in the rearview mirror confirmed that I looke

Ryan’s Point Of ViewWe have been out here for hours, it took me a whole lot getting Celia’s residential address. For some reason she had this file hidden but I always had my way around it all. The air inside the car was thick with tension, the kind that came from hours of waiting with no payoff. Marian let out a dramatic sigh, stretching her legs as much as the cramped car allowed."Ryan, we’ve been sitting here for hours, ""So?" I muttered, my eyes locked on the house we were watching."So?" she repeated, voice dripping with irritation. "I didn’t think we’d be this useless. I thought we'd have gotten closer to the truth by now so everything will be over and done with."I shot her a glare. "If you are tired, why don’t you just leave? I don't remember asking you to tag along you know.""i tagged along because I want to catch Celia too. To get this damn complication out of our lives," she huffed, arms crossing over her chest. "I just didn’t sign up for a full-day surveillance missio

Celia’s Point Of ViewThe rich aroma of wine filled the air as I swirled the deep red liquid in my glass, my fingers lazily tracing the rim. The soft glow of the chandelier cast golden reflections against the pristine marble floors of my living room. Everything was perfect, just as it should be. My plans were working and it was just a few more cards to play before it all happens.I took a slow sip, savoring the taste of expensive indulgence, relishing the satisfaction of knowing that everything was going according to plan. Adrian was slipping further into my grasp, Emma was as good as forgotten, and soon, my life would be exactly as I had envisioned it.Then my phone rang.I didn’t even have to check the caller ID... I already knew who it was.Adrian. Again. This was the umpteenth time he was calling.I ignored it, continuing to sip my wine. But the ringing didn’t stop. Over and over, it filled the air, each shrill tone like a mosquito buzzing in my ear.Annoyance prickled through me.

Emma’s Point Of ViewI have spent so long in here that I have lost complete track of time. My body was getting weaker as the day goes by, my throat dry, my mind clouded with exhaustion. Time had lost meaning to me in this place. I wasn’t sure how many the outside world looked like now, All that rested in my mind was only that I was starving, they would usually bring food, on some occasions good food and most almost rotten food. When I heard the heavy creak of the door opening, I barely lifted my head because I knew what it was that was coming to me.The guard who always brought the food entered, his footsteps slow and deliberate. He carried a plate of food like always, but something about his presence today made my stomach tighten. His stare as he walked up to me lingered too long, his lips curled into something that wasn't quite a smirk but held just enough malice to set off every alarm in my head.I forced myself to sit up from my lying position. Ever since I'd been locked up in th

Ryan’s Point of ViewA sharp ringing jolted me awake. For a second, I was disoriented, my mind still trapped in the hazy remnants of sleep. Then I felt it... Marian’s head resting on my chest, her arm draped across my stomach.Memories from last night came rushing back. Her moans. Her nails digging into my back. The way her lips tasted warm, desperate, claiming. My phone rang again, cutting through my morning haunted thoughts.I sighed, carefully adjusting Marian so I wouldn’t wake her. I reached for my phone on the nightstand, my brows furrowing at the unregistered number flashing on the screen.Who the hell was calling me this early?I hesitated before answering. "Ryan speaking."A pause. Then a voice I hadn't expected."I know, Ryan."I froze. My grip on the phone tightened. That voice.. I recognized it instantly, anywhere, any day"Nanny Isidro?" I asked, sitting up straighter. She sighed. "Yes Ryan, it’s me. I had to call you."I swung my legs off the bed, my pulse quickening. "H

Ryan’s Point of View"How dare he.." I slurred to my glass "To think she chose him over me" I raised the glass and made to pour the content into my mouth but unfortunately it had finished I raised a hand at the bartender and he came over and refilled my glass. "He got that suspicious bitch pregnant, I bet my entire life that she us behind Emma's disappearance" I gulped down the drink at a go and it stung my throat"Sir, my shift is over, and you look totally wasted, can I take you home?" the bartender offered. Looking at my glass, I felt it was time to go home, but Marian was there! Waiting for more nagging. But could I leave my home to her? I decided to go home. " It's fine I can still find my way" I dipped my hand in my pocket still staggering and took out my wallet, I gave him my credit card and in minutes I stumbled out of the bar, the night air hitting me like a slap. My head was spinning, but not just from the alcohol. Celia. Pregnant. With Adrian’s child.I gritted my tee

Ryan’s Point Of ViewI watched as Celia’s car took a sharp right, her tires screeching against the pavement. She was trying to shake me off. Good. That meant she had noticed me and she was scared.I slowed down, letting her disappear into the highway as I went straight.I wasn’t here to catch her though. Not yet.No, I wanted her to feel some one lurking, to feel like eyes were always on her, like danger was around every corner. Once paranoia settled in, she would slip up. She’d get reckless while trying to cover her tracks, make mistakes that would give me an upper hand . And when that happened, I’d be there to catch her red handed. But for now, she could keep playing her little hide and seek game. She could keep thinking she was in control.I turned my car around and drove back home. The moment I set foot into my apartment, I knew something was off.I stood by the light switch, scanning the room. Celia’s Point Of ViewI stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the maternity dress that hugged my belly just right. It was subtle.. just enough to make myself look like a responsible soon to be mother but still graceful. If I played my cards right today, everything would fall into place. Adrian had asked to meet after days of absolute silence. Could this mean he had made a decision? Maybe he is finally ready to accept me and our baby into his life.A smile tugged at my lips, but I quickly wiped it off. No, I had to stay in control. I shouldn't be swayed by just a invitation. I had spent too much time, too much energy on this to get excited over an ordinary invitation. Emma was never coming back, and Adrian had to accept that.I grabbed my handbag and stepped out of my room, I had given my men strict instructions before leaving the hide out.. From now on, I didn't want Emma’s door opened for any reason. Not even to let her use the bathroom, if she ever wanted to relieve herself, she
