DOMINIC

This is demeaning.

I am a fucking alpha of a pack that has stood for over three centuries and here I am.

Hiding in the dark, like some pathetic trading wolf

I shouldn't be doing this

It is beneath me.

But what choice do I have when the wolves who are supposed to be doing this are below average?

Should I just kill them all and start afresh?

Hmm… now that is an idea.

But for now…

For now, I am here, lurking in the shadows just beyond the borders of Rowan’s settlement, waiting.

Patience is something I have not perfected over the years, and tonight is no different.

I can literally feel the tension coiled in my muscles, ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice, but for now, despite my desires, I remain still, my eyes scanning the scene before me.

From my vantage point, the buildings are little more than shodows against the night sky, dark and silent like tombs.

A sham compared to my pack’s buildings

How can she want to remain here?

A flash of anger burns through me

DOMINIC“I know about Louisa! I know about her… and her daughter!”The wolf’s words slam into me, freezing my blood in my veins. “Rowan and her daughter?”Rowan… Louisa?Louisa has a daughter?A child?“VIKTOR!”The growl rips out of my throat like a sudden thunder echoing across the sky.How dare he?!How dare he touch what is mine?!The bastards. They will pay for this!If it is true of course.I look down to see my grip still tightened on Martin's collar, the fabric bunching in my fist. He is trembling, I can feel it, the fear radiating off him like heat. But he is not lying. He is terrified, and that is when I know it is real. It has to be.“Daughter?” My voice is a low growl, barely restrained rage simmering underneath. “What the hell are you talking about?”He flinches but forces the words out, stumbling over them. “Louisa… she has a daughter… five years old. Looks just like her.”Five years old. I do the math in my head, quick and sharp. Viktor had only met her early thi

VIKTORI hear Calvin before I see him.His footsteps crunching rapidly against the dry leaves, faster than normal. Frantic Panicked. That can't be good.I look up just as he breaks into the clearing, and I immediately know something is wrong. His face is pale, his eyes wide and frantic, darting from side to side as if he is expecting Dominic to jump out from behind a tree at any moment. Sweat beads along his hairline, and he’s breathing hard like he is been running, though the spot isn’t that far from where he usually comes.I frown, standing as he approaches. “Calvin… you’re late.” My voice is sharp, but my concern overshadows the reprimand. He looks worse than last time, more unraveled, like a man haunted by shadows he can’t escape. He doesn’t respond right away. Instead, he collapses onto the wooden bench, his hands shaking as he wipes his forehead with a trembling hand. For a long moment, he just sits there, his breathing uneven, and I can't help but get more panicked.Whate

ROWAN“What do you think he is planning?” Lisa asks, her voice breaking through the silence, her question hanging in the air like thick with tension and worry.I glance over at her, sitting across the desk with her arms crossed, her brows drawn tight together. Rina is perched beside her, a look of equal concern etched across her face. They are both watching me closely, waiting for answers I clearly don’t have. Leaning back in my chair, I heave out sigh, running a hand over my face.“I don’t know,” I admit. “None of this is making sense anymore.”Rina shifts in her seat, leaning forward. “But you talked to Kaylee, didn't you? Are you sure she is giving you the right information? You know how she can be biased. She sees everything Dominic does though dark tinted lenses. Maybe-”“She wouldn’t lie,” I cut her off, shaking my head. “Or make mistakes about this. Kaylee is not the type to mess around with something like this. And she has been good with her information so far.”Lisa purs

DOMINICPerfect.Just perfect.I am standing in the doorway of the newly furnished room, arms crossed over my chest, as I take in the room with a deep sense of satisfaction. It is perfectJust as I envisioned it. The dark wood floors shine underneath the soft light of the chandelier, casting sharp shadows along the walls. The whole area is filled with the sense of purpose, not the frivolity that usually fills the rooms of five-year-old girls. No, this is a room of strength, a room for someone destined to be more than just another weak, coddled child.I made sure to have any childishness stripped away. No toys.No frilly decorations. No pastel-colored fantasies. Instead, I have lined the walls with sturdy wooden shelves. They are empty now, but soon they will be filled with books on history, strategy, and power. Things she will need to learn, things I will make sure she learns.Above the bed, a massive, intricately framed mirror dominates the wall. It shows every corner of t

DOMINICI arrive at the meeting spot under the cover of night, the air thick with tension. The shadows of the forest stretch long and thin across the ground, as if the darkness itself is waiting for something to happen and as I approach the clearing I had told him about… I see him, Martin, the cowardly werewolf waiting as he looks around in fear.He is standing near a tree, his eyes darting around nervously with his shoulders hunched while he wrings his hands like a child afraid of being caught doing something wrong. It takes all of me to resist the urge to sneer at him.Of all the wolves I could have manipulated, I am stuck with him. But then again, at least his fear of me ensures that he will do as he is told.I guess it is a good thing that he is out of my pack.He is her problem now.“Alpha,” he says, his voice shaking slightly as I come closer. He nods his head in a half-bow. “You… you told me to come at this time.”“Yes,” I say coldly, stopping just short of him. I let the s

The not knowing- it’s worse than any confrontation and my mind races with possibilities, none of them good.Around the table, my most trusted allies sit in silence. VIKTORThe air is crisp as I step into Rowan's settlement. Ever since that phone call, my wolf has been more than insistent, urging me to come to the settlement.Like he knew something was wrong. He is usually calm and quiet about things and just lets me have my way, so when he behaves like this… I listen. I hadn’t planned on coming here…not yet at least but here I am. It is good to be back tough. The memories I had here when I was Louis still makes me feel warm and fuzzy. As I alight from the car infirmy of the manaion,I catch sight of most of the wolves moving about in their business. There is the initial surprise when their gazes flicker toward me.Shock, delight and even curiosity and in their eyes. None of them expected me. “Viktor?” Rowan’s voice reaches me before I see her. ROWAN.It is timeI have dreamt and thought about the day that, I and Viktor would finally announce our mate bond… and it has finally arrived.People are gathered all around the bonfire which keeps throwing sparks of emebers into the air and allowing its warmth spreading through the clearing. I can hear the laughter and chatter that fills the air, the mood curious but carefree and standing beside Viktor or Louis, as they still call him… everything feels perfect. Jhenelle giggles nearby, her playful laughter a comforting sound amidst the celebration. She likes running around playing tag with some of her caretakers being just absolutely adorable.Yet, despite it all, there is still something that keeps tugging at the edge of my mind.A feeling I can’t quite shake. I glance around the clearing, noticing the wolves laughing, toasting, and talking, but there is an oddness in the air. My eyes settle on a wolf standing near the edge of the gathering, his back is turned slightly as if he

ROWAN“Mummy looks like a princess!”I laugh at the remark as I stand in front of the full-length mirror, fingers trailing over the delicate fabric of my mating dress. The soft white folds cling to my body like a second skin, flowing down in elegant waves to pool around my feet. The intricate gold embroidery along the bodice and hem catches the soft light, making it glimmer like stars across a night sky. The dress is modeled after ancient Greek designs, and yet it feels uniquely mine, as if it were made for this exact moment. Which it was.“You are right,” Lisa tells Jhenells as she adjusts the waist, while Rina’s fussing over my hair, placing small white flowers into the delicate braids. “But a queen instead. You are the princess.”Kaylee stands off to the side, smiling at me like she already knows what I am thinking.“You look... perfect, Rowan,” she says softly, her eyes filled with warmth. “Viktor won’t know what hit him.”I let out a small laugh, a nervous tremble in my chest

DOMINIC The world narrows down to just Viktor and me, as it was always going to be. This fight has been a long time comingHis eyes burn into mine from below, and I snarl down at him from the balcony. All the noise, all the chaos around us fades into nothing. Just him. Just me. My pulse thunders in my ears as I leap from the ledge, muscles coiling, ready to tear him apart. In mid-air, the change rips through me. Bones snap, skin stretches, and fur bursts from my skin. The transformation into my wolf form is savage, overwhelming. And in the space of a heartbeat, I am no longer a man but a beast. I barely register Viktor doing the same, his massive body surging upward to meet mine.We collide like thunder.Teeth flash, claws slash, fur and flesh tear. I drive him to the ground, snarling, biting, desperate to tear out his throat. But he fights back just as viciously, his teeth sinking into my shoulder with a brutal snap. The pain is white-hot, but I don’t feel it. Not really.

Wolves are running, voices are shouting, and I feel trapped in a slow-motion nightmare, each second dragging on while the urgency inside me screams for action. My heart is racing in my chest, fear gripping every part of me, and I know -I just know- that Jhenelle is no longer here. Dominic… he was here.He must have taken her out of the park. The bastard.
