Jace was already irritated and after hearing Sage's response, the edge of the scale finally tipped his frustration.

Did she really just ask what their relationship was?

He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists as he took a few seconds to regain his composure and asked again, "I would like to know who I am to you, too."

The three men were startled by the way Jace sounded — miserable and sad.

All of a sudden, it seemed as if Jace was the one who was being abandoned by Sage.

Sage sneered and her voice was laced with mockery, "Who else would you be? My ex-husband, obviously. Didn't that sweet lover of yours just come to you? You should be going on dates with her instead. What are you doing here distracting me? Are you planning to have your feet in two boats?"

Almost immediately, the three men stared wide-eyed at Jace and was surprised that Jace enjoyed this sort of thing.
