Chapter 5

When I woke up Dimitri was no longer sitting with me, I started panicking right away. I started screaming my little head off, what is going on he said he would stay with me. But right then he came running into the living room with his shirt off which immediately made me blush. “What is wrong? Are you ok?” My face started turning all different shades of red, “ I am sorry I woke up and you weren’t here and I panicked I am so sorry.” He walked over to me, sitting down beside me, “Squirt no need to apologise I am right here and I am not going anywhere ok.” Just then there was a knock on the door, Dimitri just smiled, “That must be the food finally I am starving.” He jumped up from the couch running toward the door, he was still a big dork at heart. He came back with two trays of food one in each hand he nodded his head towards the table that was set up by the window. He sat his tray down first then pulled out my chair, once I sat down he scooted me in before sitting my tray down and taking the lid off. I looked down to see that it was a bit fat juicy steak with potatoes and green beans and he had a glass of orange juice and water on the tray too. “Thank you Dimitri!” He just smiled at me, “I remember you use to eat this all the time when you would come over to the house so I figure it would be ok.” I just nodded I grabbed the fork and knife, I immediately cut into the steak and I could see that he remember I liked my steak rare. We sat in silence while we ate our meal, I couldn’t finish the whole thing. “Dimitri, I can’t finish all this I am sorry!” He grabbed my chin with his finger making me look up at him, “Quite apologizing ok you have been through a lot I am just happy you ate anything ok.” I just nodded my head, Dimitri got up and started cleaning the table off while I stared out the window.

I must have zoned out because when Dimitri tapped me on my shoulder I jumped so far out of chair. Dimitri looked surprised for a moment, “ I am sorry squirt I didn’t mean to scare you I was just going to see if you wanted to watch tv for a little bit longer?” I just nodded at him, we walked back over to the couch and he pressed a button on a remote and this large tv came down from the ceiling. My mouth fell open, “That is a very big tv where the hell did it come from?” Dimitri just started laughing, “it came with the room, money can get you just about anything if you want it too.” I guess he was right because this whole hotel room is amazing, he started flipping through the channels and that is when he found my favorite movie the lion king. About ten minutes into the movie, and my eyes started tearing up, within minutes I was full blown sobbing on the couch. Dimitri didn’t ask questions he just engulfed me in a hug, “It is ok Victoria I am not going anywhere your safe now.”

He held onto me a little bit longer until I quit crying, “How about we watch something else sorry I wasn’t thinking I forgot this was the movie you use to watch with your parents all the time.” I just nodded my head, I must have fallen asleep at some point because I woke up in the room Dimitri gave me when we first got here. But Dimitri was sleeping in the chair at the end of my bed, I thought he was going to sleep in his own room why did he sleep in here? Careful not to wake him I gently pulled the covers back grabbing the bag that I brought with me. I walked over to the window and noticed that it was already day time I walked into the bathroom right off the bedroom and locked the door behind me. I opened the bag and grabbed a dress and some heels that Dimitri packed for me, I placed them on the counter by the sink. That is when I noticed he had hair brushes and all my normal stuff that I use to freshen up laid out on the counter for me.

He always paid attention to what I liked and used more so then even my family did sometimes. I turned around walking over to the stand up shower turning on the water to as hot as I could stand it. I stripped my clothes of throwing them over by the counter before stepping into the shower, and that is when I realized that I never grabbed my body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. I went to get out the shower to grab it but out the corner of my eye I saw something so I turned around in the shower and that is when I noticed that he already placed everything in the shower for me. When did he have time to do that, he even put my favorite razor in the corner as well as the shaving cream? How does he know this much about me did he really pay attention to everything growing up. I guess he really was my protector and my guardian, I didn’t waste anytime I shaved my legs, underarms, and my sensitive area I know some people say shaving down there is bad for you but I don’t like hair it is one of my biggest pet peeves. Once I got done shaving I washed and conditioned my long hair before washing my body and getting out. I wrapped the towel around me before walking over to the sink where the mirror was. I looked at myself in the mirror and I didn’t even recognize who I was you could see that I had been crying for some time with the redness around my eyes. I noticed that there was a pair of scissors in the cup in the corner and I don’t know what came over me but I grabbed the scissors and pulled my long hair over my shoulder and started cutting it so that it was up to the middle of my back now. I finished getting ready for the day before putting the dress and heels that Dimitri had packed for me when I came out of the bathroom thought Dimitri was no longer in the bedroom.

I could feel the panic starting to rise in my chest so I took a few deep breaths before walking out of my room and started heading towards the living room. Dimitri was on the phone with someone, and when he turned around his mouth fell open. “Let me call you back.” He hung up the phone, “Vic you cut your hair is everything ok?” I just shrugged my shoulders, “ I just needed to change it thinking of all the blood that was on it I just couldn’t have it long right now. Who were you talking to?” He just looked at me and I could see the sadness in his eyes, “Officer Michael he wants us to come down town so that he can talk to you a little bit more.” I just lowered my head, “It is about what happen at my house isn’t it?” He just shook his head, “Let me get my keys and grab our jackets ok.” I just nodded my head wrapping my arms around myself, a sudden chill surrounded me. What if they found out what happen to my family and friends? I didn’t have to wonder in my thoughts for long before Dimitri came back helping me to get my jacket on. He opened the door for me, making sure to stay close to me all the way to the elevator and out of the front door. Once we got to his vehicle he opened the door for me and allowed me to get in first.

While I was putting my seatbelt on he started the vehicle and then started driving. I just stared at the window, by the time we got there I had zoned out and didn’t notice until Dimitri placed his hand on mine. “Vic were hear are you ready to go in?” I just lowered my head looking at the floor, “ Not really but I have to do this!” Dimitri got out walking over to my side of the vehicle and opened the door for me I got out and he grabbed my hand. “I got you I am right here ok just remember that.” He gave my hand a slight squeeze, then we headed into the police station and up to the counter. “Victoria Ambers here to see officer Michael!” The lady just looked at me before picking up the phone and dialed a extension.” She looked back at us, “He said he will be right up why not take a seat.” We walked over to the chairs sitting across from the counter. We didn’t sit for long before Officer Michael came out and told us to follow him, we followed him back to his office and he closed the door behind us instructing us to sit down in the chairs he had in his office. Once he did that he sat down across from us, “Victoria I want you to know that I am so sorry this happened to you, we have already talked to the other families of this tragedy and they hold no ill will toward you and want you to know if you need anything to let them know especially Temperance’s parents.”

I could feel my breath stop when he mentioned my best friend’s name, Dimitri squeezed my hand. I smirked at him before turning my attention back to officer Michael. “Now the reason I called you in is to see if your remember anything else from that night that may help us because I am going to be honest with your right now the only thing that we have found is some animal DNA that is currently being tested at a lab to see if we can determine what animal may have been involved.” I just looked at Dimitri then back at Officer Michael, “What do you mean animal DNA?” He looked at Dimitri then again back at me, “I am sorry Victoria but that is honestly all we have at this time is that some animal did this but no animal would just attack humans without something or someone else being involved. Right now the case is at a stand still!” I started having a hard time breathing again and that is when Dimitri squeezed my hand and took over the conversation, “ She said she doesn’t remember anything other then the pain she was in before she blacked out. When can she bury her family and when can she leave she needs to get away from here?” Officer Michael just sighed, “We can release your parents to you today and you can leave after that your just have to give me the address, and phone number so we can get ahold of you if anything else comes up with the case.” Dimitri placed his hand on my shoulder turning me towards him, “Let’s have them release them to my families funeral home and then we can go back to your house to get everything set up for the funeral, and don’t worry we had it cleaned up already and I will be there with you the entire time ok!” I just shook my head not sure what to say, how could they not find any leads except for some animal DNA your trying to tell me an animal did this by theirself there is no way in hell that happened. We left his office and started walking slowly out to his vehicle in complete silence I can’t believe I have to prepare my parents funeral. I just turned eighteen I shouldn’t have to do this.
