Once Lacey finishes Evalyn’s hair we’re finally ready to leave. We all split up into two cars. Amelia, Marcus, Vitali, and Eric get into Marcus’ truck and Chris, myself, Tyson, and Evalyn climb into Chris’ gold SUV with black chrome rims. It used to be black and silver, but he changed the colours to represent me.
I know it seems silly – especially since I don’t drive – but he said he just wanted to incorporate me more into his life. He looked so nervous and embarrassed when he showed me – It was adorable. I loved the gesture and honestly, I think it looks really cool.
I lost track of how long we were driving, I was busy just enjoying the scenery and the conversations, so before I knew it we were parked, jumping out and heading towards the club. We were parked around the corner and could hear the music before we even got out of the car – that’s advanced hearing for you. As we make our way toward the entrance I can feel the nerves starting to creep up on me. I’d managed to have them under control until now.
'You don’t have to do this. We can just turn around and go home and enjoy an evening together,' Chris reassures me through our link as he brings us to a stop. I look up at him and once again his face is full of concern. I hate how much I make him worry. I don’t want him always having to worry about me, but with our bond, he always knows when something is wrong, and I feel bad for that sometimes.
I shake my head, 'I’m nervous, but I want to do this. I want to live a little like everyone else.'
He nods, 'Okay, but the moment it’s too much for you give me the signal and we’re heading home to binge-watch stuff on the TV,' he says firmly.
I smile and reach up to place my lips on his. His arms wrap around me, and he lifts me off the ground with ease making me squeal against his lips. He doesn’t put me down or stop kissing me as he walks us to the entrance. I wrap my arms around his neck and bask in his excitement and his love that I can feel through our bond, letting it calm me. Our lips continue to move in perfect synchronicity, his kisses possessing and comforting me at the same time.
I can tell when we have stepped inside, and he slowly parts his lips from mine and sets me on my feet making me pout.
“We can pick up where we left off, at home,” he says with a gorgeous smile as he caresses my cheek. I smile happily at him, suddenly eager to get back home. I sometimes wonder if Chris has the gift of healing because his kisses sure are magical.
“Let’s go find somewhere to sit,” says Amelia to our group. Even though the music is blaring, she doesn’t have to yell, we can hear her just fine. I finally take the opportunity to take in the location and my jaw nearly drops to the floor.
Is this what a club looks like? I’ve never seen anything like it!
The space is enormous and illuminated with neon pinks and blues. To the left of the door is a bar with a lot of people lined up for drinks. The walls are painted black and mirrors with silver borders are spaced out on the walls around the club. There is a staircase to the right of the entrance that leads to a second floor, but I can’t see what’s up there.
People are everywhere – especially in the centre of the club. The dancefloor is a square space lower than the rest of the floor; you descend three steps that are illuminated with white lights that make up the dancefloor border and then the dancefloor itself also lights up. The lights under the floor match the beat of the music and against the far wall is a small semi-circular stage and a DJ booth. There are so many things to look at and take in that my eyes can’t stay in just one place.
I feel Chris wrap his arm around me and tug me with him as we join the others at one of the seating areas. Vitali and Eric are seated on one of the many plush silver lounges found around the room, as are Marcus and Amelia. Chris and I sit on a couple of silver ottomans opposite Vitali and Eric with the drinks table between us. I look around to see Tyson and Evalyn have already disappeared somewhere onto the dancefloor.
“How are you liking the club scene so far?” Asks Eric.
I smile and look around, “It’s very loud, but I like how colourful it is. Though the smell is…” I trail off trying to think of the right words.
“Disgusting,” laughs Vitali. “You can say it. The downside of coming here when you have a supernatural nose, you can smell the body sweat and various other scents that I will not taint your delicate ears with,” he says while patting my knee.
He doesn’t have to say it. I can smell the sex and many other bodily fluids and the intermingling of so much perfume and cologne. It’s extremely unpleasant, how do they stand it?
“Just focus on me,” Chris says, kissing my cheek. Now that I can easily do. I smile and lean into him and breathe in his heavenly aroma, letting it shield me from the unpleasant scents in the room.
“I’m going to go get us some drinks, what does everyone want?” Marcus asks.
“Dry martini, please,” says Eric as he leans into Vitali.
“Gin and tonic,” says Vitali.
“Sea Breeze for me, thanks,” says Chris.
“Long Island iced tea please, babe,” says Amelia.
Marcus gives me a sweet smile, “Mei, would you like anything?”
“Oh, um, just sparkling water, please.”
“As you wish,” he nods with a smile. He gives Amelia a swift kiss on the cheek and then goes off to get the drinks. Just as he walks off Vitali pulls a flask out of his leather jacket, opens it, takes a swig then passes it to Eric and Amelia. He then offers it to Chris who shakes his head.
“Not when I’m driving,” Chris tells him.
Vitali rolls his eyes, “You’re a wolf, one sip won’t impair you.”
“No, none of the drinks from the bar will impair me, but Tezus is another story and I’m not taking risks, especially not with Mei in the car,” he says and from his tone, he won’t budge.
“You make it sound like one sip is going to cause you a car accident,” he sniggers.
“Vitali, drop it. He doesn’t want any, end of discussion,” Amelia says in a hard voice. Chris mouths ‘thank you’ to her and she smiles back.
“Maybe someone could teach me to drive,” I suggest to everyone.
“You want to learn? How come?” Amelia asks curiously, but with a bright smile.
“I don’t particularly want to drink,” I tell them. Pack members getting drunk at Albus Mons usually resulted in me blacking out in a pool of my own blood. Safe to say it put me off alcohol permanently. Chris knows this. “And Chris shouldn’t have to miss out for my benefit. If I learn to drive then he can enjoy himself,” I chirp, proud of my idea.
“Could you be any sweeter?” Eric gushes making me blush.
“Love, I don’t need alcohol to enjoy myself, but if you want to learn to drive I’ll gladly teach you,” Chris says happily.
“I think I would still like to learn,” I tell him as I feel excitement bubbling inside me. Knowing how to drive means I could take myself anywhere, whenever I wanted. Such a simple freedom that so many take for granted.
“Consider it done,” he says echoing my excitement.
As the night goes on I find myself having a wonderful time. I even got on the dancefloor and danced with everyone. I danced with Amelia and Evalyn, I danced with the guys and I, of course, danced with Chris.
Dancing with Chris was like we were in our own little bubble and nothing and no one else existed. It was perfect. However, I couldn’t shake this uncomfortable feeling of being watched. I would periodically glance around to see if I could spot anyone looking in my direction, but there was nothing, yet the feeling never went away. In fact, it got stronger as the night went on.
Eventually, while we were seated back at the lounges the feeling of being watched came over me again, only much more intense and I could feel a slight vibration coming from across the room. It was different to the kind of vibration I feel around Chris. Chris’ vibration also comes with a tugging sensation, this vibration doesn’t. It’s a bit weaker and has a completely different rhythm. I look behind me and through the crowd, across the room, I lock onto a pair of rich brown eyes.
Sure enough, there is a man on the other side of the room staring at me, and even though I’ve seen him he doesn’t look away. He looks about 5’9”, with jet black hair that is styled with gel; has cool, beige skin, defined cheekbones and wisps of black hair above his lip and on his chin. He has Asian features and if I had to guess, I’d say he was Chinese – like me. He’s wearing a pin-stripe black suit with matching black slacks, shiny black shoes, and a crisp white shirt with three buttons undone. He looks expensive and is projecting wealth and power, but something about the way he’s looking at me has me wanting to shed my skin – not that I actually can.
I can vaguely hear someone speaking to me, but I can’t seem to turn away from the stranger’s eyes. There’s something about him I can’t put my finger on.
“Mei? Is everything alright?” Asks Amelia.
“Huh?” I ask finally pulling my eyes away from the man to look at a concerned Amelia sitting up in Marcus’ lap. “Oh. Yes, I am fine, I just…” I trail off glancing back to where the man was, but he’s no longer there. “There was a man over there looking at me,” I quietly say. Both Amelia and Marcus are up on their feet, their eyes scanning around the club. Even Vitali and Eric are looking around on alert, but unable to see anything suspicious. “I swear he was there. He… there was something familiar about him,” I whisper, still not really sure what I even mean by that. How do you describe a foreign feeling?
“It’s okay, we believe you. If you see him again you let us know straight away, got it?” Amelia tells me. I give her a fierce nod. Thankfully Chris returns with drinks, but he knows something is wrong.
“Is everything okay? What happened?” He asks in a rush, sitting down beside me, putting the drinks on the table. There I go worrying him again.
“Mei said there was someone across the room watching her. We didn’t get a look at the guy, but he seems gone now,” Amelia tells him. I almost wish she hadn’t. A growl rumbles in his chest as he pulls me close, his eyes darting around searching for a threat; his body becoming tense.
I sigh. “Chris, I’m okay, nothing happened,” I reassure him, placing my hand against his cheek.
“Some low-life was looking at what isn’t his and making you uncomfortable, that’s not okay,” he says forcefully. I can feel the anger he and Axel are feeling.
'I say we find him and rip his head off,' Axel growls in my mind. Always wanting to rip people’s heads off.
'And if he’s human?' I argue.
'Then it’ll teach him to keep his eyes to himself,' he says nonchalantly.
'Axel, you know you can’t do that,' I carefully remind him.
He sighs, 'A wolf can dream, my Sweet One. Are you okay?' He asks softly.
I’ve seen this wolf rip into people and wolves with no mercy, but for me, he’s the sweetest, most gentle beast ever created. I feel very lucky.
'I promise I’m fine. I’ve told you; you and Chris worry too much,' I lightly chide.
Chris snorts, “And we keep telling you there is nothing you can do about that. Even if you were Goddess Morrtemis herself, we would still worry about you, Mei. You’re everything to us, the thought of anything happening to you, or me losing you, terrifies me. I couldn’t cope if something like that were to happen. I understand how Kylie felt because I would end up the same way,” he says adamantly making me gasp.
I fiercely shake my head, “Don’t say that.”
“It’s the truth, xingan baobei. My life is nothing without you,” he says as he presses his forehead to mine.
My throat constricts and my heart clenches. I don’t want to think of a world that doesn’t have Chris in it. Chris is what makes my life worth living, he makes the world brighter just by being in it. A world without him is too sad for me to think about. I wrap my arms tight around his neck burying my face in his neck, taking in deep lungfuls of his scent to soothe the aching in my chest.
“I don’t want to think of a world you don’t exist in. I can’t,” I choke holding back a sob.
He tightens his arms around me and yet it’s not tight enough. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll never leave you and you better not leave me either,” he warns.
I furiously shake my head, “Never, ever, ever!” I exclaim.
“Good,” he says capturing my lips in a kiss, but this kiss is different. It’s fiercer and knocks me senseless. His fingers find their way into my hair as he holds my head in place; his lips expressing all his love, his fear, and his desire while he growls against my lips making me shiver. He’s never kissed me like this before, but I want more of it. I want to drown in it. I hold myself tighter to him, returning his kiss as I let it consume my senses.
Time and space slip away and all I want is him.
Our lips break apart as we gasp for air; my head spinning deliciously.
“Well, I guess I can cross ‘watch my brother have a fierce make-out session’ off my bucket list,” I hear Evalyn say making my cheeks heat up.
“Why was watching your brother make out with someone ON your bucket list?” Asks Eric in a confused voice.
“It’s just an expression,” she retorts, and I can almost hear her rolling her eyes.
“I’m pretty sure it’s not an expression of any kind,” Vitali laughs.
They slip into their usual bickering, but I can’t take my eyes off Chris. His hazel-green eyes twinkle under the neon lights and his smile speaks to my soul. We’re lost in our own world and as much as I’m loving it, I really can’t wait to get home now.
Last night was… wow. Incredible is too simple a word to describe it. Don’t get me wrong, every intimate moment with Mei is incredible and makes me proud that I waited for her because there is no one and nothing that can compare to this stunning creature, but last night was something else. When we got home it was a frenzy. As I said, our intimate life is pretty damn incredible, but last night was otherworldly. We were consumed with unbridled need. A fear of living a life without the other fuelling our desire, wanting to give in to our need for each other; refusing to go a day not expressing how we feel for each other. She was confident and insatiable, and sexier than I could ever describe, and I was consumed by her. We couldn’t get enough of each other. We were just flesh, moans, and entangled limbs the entire night until we both collapsed from exhaustion. I’d never seen her like that. It had me more turned on than a male-wolf driven wild by a she-wolf’s heat. I’m very protective of
What a day this is shaping out to be! Life as a wolf spirit is pretty great. You get to chill all day; you always have a friend to talk to, sometimes you get to socialise with other wolf spirits and it’s always a good day when I get to take my natural form and let my fur out. It’s a mostly stress-free life, and the best part? I get gifted a soulmate for just existing. How awesome is that?! And oh, what a soulmate she is. Was I disappointed I didn’t get a wolf to mate with? Yeah, I was, I won’t lie. Chris and I had been planning and waiting our whole lives to meet our fated one, so I did feel I drew the short straw in not getting someone for myself but that only lasted maybe a few seconds. I instantly fell in love with Mei, and I trust Zarseti. In fact, I think I understand why she paired us with Mei. Our Sweet One has had a life no one should ever have; she’s been hurt in so many ways – believe me I wanted to rip out the throats of everyone in that Gods forsaken pack – and I think t
I went from having a beautiful morning with Mei to getting my ass supremely handed to me during training. I got paired with Marcus and he was being particularly brutal today; he’s an absolute beast when it comes to fighting. On the bright side, it’s nice to know our pack has two such strong powerhouses to protect it, plus it wasn’t entirely his fault I got my ass kicked so much, I admit I was extremely distracted. Mei was facing off against Amelia – as usual. When we have pack training, Mei only spars against Amelia, because no one else is strong enough to take her on. She only spars with others if she’s helping to coach them on how to take on a stronger opponent. Basically, I neglected to defend against several of Marcus’ attacks because I couldn’t take my eyes off Mei. The way she moves is so lithe and majestic. You would have no idea how new she was to fighting unless she told you, she acts like she’s been doing this her whole life and her style doesn’t even look like she’s fight
I don’t know what came over me earlier. I wouldn’t call it snapping, as I wasn’t angry. I suppose the best word is resentful. I felt resentful of Jane. I don’t personally know her, but Chris has told me plenty when he was warning me about people to avoid in the pack. Jane isn’t a ranked wolf or the daughter of a ranked wolf, but her father is a very wealthy man, allowing her family to be very wealthy as well. I don’t remember what he said he does for a living, but either way, it has allowed him to provide very nicely for his family. Jane is someone who has been handed everything in life. She hasn’t had to struggle or fight for anything, and instead of being grateful for what she has, it has made her feel that she is entitled to even more. She bullies and degrades others because she feels superior to them. She feels strong and happy when she is making others feel weak and miserable. Those were the kind of people who tormented me day in and day out at the Albus Mons Pack. If I was st
I felt Tyson and I accomplished a lot today. We figured out the patrol schedule and then we had lunch in his office while he taught me more about what pack security entails. We discussed future training routines, with him letting me in on some of his ideas. There’s another sensory course coming up where the pack will once again have to learn how to not rely on their sense of smell. They were all so impressed the first time I participated in this, but I didn’t feel I deserved their praise. I admitted to my friends and Chris that even though my nose was plugged I could smell everything perfectly fine through my mouth – actually I smelt everything much easier. I thought they’d accuse me of cheating, but they seemed to think it was really cool. Overall, I’m feeling really good. I was going to go and visit Chris in his office, but he told me through the link that he’s busy having meetings with the contractors who are building the new pack expansions, regarding some financial matters. I de
The downside of dealing with human contractors is I can’t punch them in the face when they act like condescending assholes. I have been on the phone to these morons for longer than I’d like, and they think because we’re a little ‘village’ in the middle of nowhere that we’re hicks or something. As the person in charge of pack finances, let me just say we are a very lucrative pack, and we could buy and sell their stupid company ten times over if we wanted to. I plan to talk to Amelia about these guys so she can maybe consider hiring a different crew because I know for a fact she would not want to be associated with people who have this kind of attitude with their clients. It’s just bad business. But if they want to risk a hell of a payday, that’s on them. 'I’m heading up to your office, so you better let me in,' comes my sister’s usual bossy voice through the link. It’s always the short people who are the bossiest. Maybe it’s a complex. I get up from my desk and open the door to my
I smile shaking my head, but Amelia does have a point. That was a lot of power that came out of Mei today, all triggered because for a brief moment Jane made Mei feel the way that disgraceful pack did. I wonder what it will be like at full strength. 'Come on, let’s go take Amelia’s advice and go back to the suite and put something nice together for Sweet One, and hopefully finish what we started in the tub this morning,' says Axel, wagging his tail. 'I’m going, I’m going. Since when are you so bossy?' 'Uh, since we met the love of our life, duh,' he says, rolling his eyes. I just smile, shaking my head. I get up, save all my documents, shut down my computer and head back to my suite. Mei deserves something romantic. She loves food, so I’ll start by making her something delicious. I roll up my sleeves, head over to the kitchen area and get to work on making chorizo carbonara. It’s one of my specialties and I know for a fact Mei loves it. She usually goes through three or four help
I sit in the corner of the hospital room; its lights have been turned down because they were hurting Setia’s eyes – which were also burned. Time seems to have gotten away from me. I haven’t been paying attention to anyone or anything. Axel isn’t talking, he’s just curled up in a ball weeping. I’d join him, but instead, I’ve been focusing so hard on trying to reach Mei, but still nothing. I’m not giving up though. My senses return to me when I hear an airy voice yell Setia’s name. I look up as a woman with chestnut hair, and glittering latte skin walks into the room in basic pyjama pants and a tank top. I recognise her, she was the Delegate who stopped Alpha Ivan from killing Mei – Defne. She rushes to Setia’s side, a look of deep concern on her face as she begins speaking to her. I can’t understand what she’s saying though; I don’t speak the language of the Gods. A moment later another woman enters the room. She’s the same height as Defne at 5’5”, but she has creamy white skin and lo

“Mei?” I hear Eric ask. I zone back into the conversation; I really need to learn how to stop doing that. “Sorry, Eric,” I say sheepishly. “It’s okay,” he assures me with a kind smile, “Now that I have your attention again, there’s something I wanted to ask you in today’s session.” “What’s that?” I ask curiously. “In the past couple months you’ve interacted with Irshiusts on numerous occasions, but you haven’t once thought to ask them what became of the Alpha and Luna of Albus Mons.” “That’s not a question,” I point out. “You’re right,” he smiles, “I’m just wondering why.” “Because I don’t want to. It’s not something I ever think about. They were brought to justice and can’t hurt me or anyone else again, I don’t need to know more than that.” “Does that mean you’ve forgiven them?” I feel taken aback by his question. Forgiven them? How can anyone who has done such monstrous things be forgiven? “Why would I do that?” I ask warily. “Forgiveness isn’t about the other person; it’s
I take a deep breath as I eye my target. Everything is resting on what happens next. One wrong move and it’s all over for me but I’m not about to let that happen. I’ve come too far to lose now. I watch as the puck glides quickly in my direction and with a quick flick of my wrist, I hit the mallet at the puck sending it across the table where it shoots right into the gap at the end of the table. I throw my arms up in victory and dance around. “Oh, come on!” Vitali exclaims, “There’s no way you’ve never played air hockey before. You’re a devious snake and I think you’re hustling me,” he accuses, pointing a finger at me. “What does hustling mean?” I ask, stopping my dance to look at him curiously. “It means he’s a sore loser,” Amelia teases from the couch where she and Marcus are cuddling. “I am not a sore loser, I just find it hard to believe that someone who claims to have never played air hockey has beaten every single one of us,” he says, narrowing his eyes at me. “I swear I’ve n
There hasn’t been a dull moment since the coronation. Aulen returned and put up a permanent portal between Longsang and Invictus. Mei requested it be placed in a specific room in the palace so that it would be easy to find and prevent anyone from stumbling upon it by accident. My sweet, little Empress is a genius. Amelia followed her lead and requested the other side of the portal open inside the Temple of Morrtemis, again so no one would accidentally find it. Within days of the coronation, several members of the den packed up their belongings and came to live at Invictus. Their new homes aren’t ready yet so in the meantime, they’re staying in the guest house. Mei and I have been helping them to integrate into the pack. Some pack members – the troublemakers and the old-fashioned people – weren’t as welcoming to our new members, but they’re smart enough to keep their mouths shut. The rest of the pack, however, welcomed the nagata with open arms and have been helping them assimilate, es
After the ceremony, everyone gathered outside and what I saw was like I was seeing colours for the first time. More red lanterns hung from strings reaching from tree to tree and as the sun set they cast a soft red glow over everyone. There were performances, music, and plenty of food to go around. Everyone was together celebrating what just happened and if that wasn’t enough to make me happy, getting to see more of my Chinese heritage in action, was. For fourteen years I never even dared to dream I’d experience a day like this one, and yet now it kind of feels like a dream. A beautiful dream that I never want to wake up from. Logic tells me fate brought me here, it wasn’t an easy journey, and it wasn’t one I wish on anyone else, but boy does getting here feel worth it.I’m sure that sounds crazy. Who could ever feel the horrors I’ve lived through are worth it? But the truth is, those horrors allow me to appreciate all of this so much more. Joy, pleasure, love; I treasure and feel thes
Watching Mei take her oath standing before me looking like a Goddess has me captivated. I hoped and prayed every day and night since we met that she would find her strength and become who she was meant to be. I never knew this was what the future had in store for her, but watching it happen before my eyes, it feels right and as I feel the pride radiating off her, I’m filled with pride for her.I force myself to focus back on Qiang as he begins to address the crowd one more time.“Today is a day of many firsts, for today we not only welcome our new Empress who is the first of her kind, but we welcome our new Emperor, the first mutolupus to govern over our people. To those who may disagree with this, I remind you of our most sacred beliefs. The bond between soulmates is the purest gift of love and strength ever given to us by the Goddess Zarseti. It is through our soulmate we find peace, wholeness, and a pillar for life. The Gods have chosen this man to be not only the pillar for our Em
I can’t believe this is really happening. I’ve spent all day in Nuo’s bedroom as she helped me get ready for the ceremony. I’m used to the women back at Invictus helping me get ready for something, but those times took maybe an hour at the most. This, however, has been a day-long process, one I’m very grateful to have had Nuo’s help with. Looking at the final result, I no longer recognise myself. My creamy skin is glowing and luminescent from the makeup she did, shaping and accentuating the shape of my eyes while giving them a small cat eye and a dusting of gold on the lids to match the gold lipstick on my lips. My hair has been pulled up and styled into I guess what looks like several buns elegantly tied together and golden clips pinned throughout. I don’t have pierced ears so finding earrings was tricky, but she managed to find a beautiful pair of gold chandelier clip-on earrings, but all of that is nothing compared to the stunning gold embroidered hanfu I’m wearing. The inner layer
It’s one week till the coronation and things have been hectic as hell, although Mei seems to be thriving. She’s embracing her new role with gusto and watching it is inspirational. She’s been working closely with Nuo, who is overseeing the entire ceremony. She’s organised the decorations and what we’ll be wearing and teaching Mei and myself the words and customs of the ceremony. It’s a lot more than what I experienced for my Delta ascension and to be honest, I’m getting excited and to top it off it’s a crash course in Mandarin. I’m also anxious as hell, but I think it would be weird if I wasn’t. In between learning the words for the ceremony and the ceremony itself I’ve been juggling the fittings for what I’ll be wearing and doing a lot of finance work not just for Invictus but Longsang as well. The people of Longsang know how to be self-sustaining but so much there has been left in squaller because of their selfish prick of an Emperor. Oh sure, he had no issues with buying jets and ex
We had lunch with Qiang and Nuo and then they took us around showing us more of Longsang. Seeing this place as a guest instead of a prisoner helps me to appreciate it more. Longsang is a truly breathtaking place, even Chris was in awe as we walked around. It did give Chris and me a chance to see what changes need to be made. The school here looks like no one has cared about it in years, which makes me sad. It hurts to think there are children here growing up without an education just like I did. The medical centre has definitely seen better days. Everyone’s homes are in good condition because they take care of them themselves, but anything that involves community or public wellbeing has been horribly neglected. When I think I’ve learned all there is to know about Zixin’s cruelty I learn something new that devastates me. Nuo, however, told me that my mother loved the school and actually was one of the teachers. Hearing this has made me even more determined to fix this place up and turn
