I make my way down the stairs and keep my eyes open hoping to find a few particular familiar faces. I wander around the packhouse until I end up in what looks like an entertainment room. It’s massive with a large black sectional with a black coffee table facing a large plasma screen TV on the left-hand wall. There are beanbag chairs, boxes with toys, an air hockey table, a pool table with a scoreboard on the right-hand wall next to a dartboard. Shelves that flank the door are filled with books and movies and there is are large sliding glass doors that make up the entire back wall. I see the people I’m looking for sitting on the couch laughing, so I walk over to them.
“Hey, I hope I’m not interrupting,” I say while in fact interrupting them. Who I now know to be Evalyn looks up and gives me a wide smile, so I guess my balls are safe for now.
“Marcus! Hi. Oh, this is Mei, Chris’s animai and my sister-in-law,” she says proudly making Mei blush. “And Eric who is Vitali’s
With Amelia’s friends off on a mission to help me organise the best first date I can, I go and sit on the front steps of the packhouse to wait for my truck to arrive. Thankfully with all the stuff that’s gone on so far today time is moving quickly, so I don’t have to wait long. I’m waiting for maybe twenty minutes when I can see the red exterior of my GMC Sierra 2500 in the distance. It’s good to have my baby back. I get up just as my truck pulls in with an SUV pulling in behind it. I walk over as Calix gets out of my truck and Aiden gets out of the SUV. Here it comes. “What are you knuckleheads doing here?” I ask with surprise as Calix comes in for a hug which I return. “As if you’d have trusted anyone else with your truck,” he snorts. “Good point,” I say as I pull Aiden in for a hug. “So she hasn’t kicked you out yet I see. You’re setting a new record,” Aiden teases. I ignore the prick’s comment, I can always deck him later. Pretty certain his daughter gets her attitude from him
"And you don’t know of any Alphas who would do such a thing?” I ask my dad while we sit on the couch in my office. He leans forward with his elbows resting on his knees and shakes his head, “Not a single one. It’s not common practice anymore and even under the best of circumstances most Alphas fear the repercussions from the Delegation,” he explains. “But as long as they act within the law they have nothing to worry about. The Delegation isn’t evil, and they aren’t dictators,” I say, feeling a little protective of the friends I have made. Not a single irshiust has a mean bone in their body, they weren’t made that way. But I wouldn’t call them pacifists either. They are trained and highly skilled warriors, stronger and faster than even a nagata. The only thing I know of that can rival them in strength and speed is a God. They have to know how to fight so they can carry out sentencing or stop wars. They are essentially the earthly representative of the Gods or at least Zarseti. But a
When I get to my suite I fling the door open, and my jaw drops to the floor at the sight before me. Standing in all his oh so handsome glory is Marcus, wearing a charcoal grey suit jacket with black lapels – he seems to like black lapels – a white dress shirt with the first three buttons undone giving me a perfect view of his defined pectoral muscles, which right now I very much would like to outline with my tongue. “If you don’t, I will. Hubba, hubba!” Zara pants in my head. He’s paired it with black slacks, black belt, and black loafers with a very expensive looking platinum wristwatch to boot. Gods take the wheel because my mouth has gone dry as a bone and my core is heating up as blood travels south fast. “You’re drooling,” he says with a smirk. “You look amazing,” I admit, and I can hear how breathy my voice sounds. Well, that’s embarrassing. He smiles as he walks over and cups my cheeks in his large hands; the contact sends an instant shock to the system, and I realise how m
It’s not too long before we’re approaching our destination and he’s parking against the curb in a side street. He gets out, zipping over to my side at lightning speed and opens my door for me. He holds out his hand and I don’t hesitate to take it, stepping down from the truck. He shuts and locks the car, but this time I wrap my arm around his before he even has a chance to offer. Marcus is looking down at me like a child who found Christmas just arrived early and I instinctively smile back up at him. It still amazes me how my emotions feed off of his – both positive and negative – even though we haven’t marked each other. Is it just us, or is it all animai? It’s just no one notices because most couples don’t hesitate to seal the bond. I’ll have to ask Chris since he held off longer than anyone I’ve ever known. We walk arm in arm around the corner and a few short steps before he’s opening the front doors of the establishment we’ve stopped in front of. We step in and I’m surprised by
We happily dive into our food, stealing glances at each other between bites and it makes me feel like a teenager being all silly with her crush. I never thought I was this person, but I rather like it. With things going better between us I feel myself opening up and relaxing around him more instead of being guarded.“There’s something I’ve been dying to ask you,” he says after taking another sip of his bourbon and coke.“Should I be scared?”“I don’t think so,” he chuckles, “I just can’t for the life of me figure out what Mei is,” he says making me freeze with my fork near my mouth. This makes me frown; I wasn’t expecting this question.“Is it that bad?” He asks with a worried tone.“No, it’s not that. It’s just not public knowledge, only a select few know what she is, and I’ve been doing my best to keep it that way. I wanted to make sure she was strong and able to protect herself before we let it be more public.”“Oh. I can understand that,” he concedes.I chew on the inside of my ch
Zara was snarling uncontrollably the entire time Davina was in our presence and if it weren’t for the fact I’ve had twenty-one years of practice maintaining my composure, I would have leapt across the table and ripped the lying bitches tongue out and fed it to her. I could see and feel Marcus’ rage, I could even taste it on my tongue. But I also noted his fear and panic; not of her, but fearing her presence would scare me off. I held no anger towards Marcus over this, but I’m glad we are both in agreement that something is amiss. How did a banished wolf follow him all the way to a human restaurant in another state? “She’s still here, and no doubt listening to our conversation,” Zara growls. Her rage still very prevalent. “I know, I can feel her. Let her listen, I’ll deal with her when the time comes,” I assure her. Fortunately, I was able to calm Marcus, who I could tell was struggling to stop Ace from shifting. I could only imagine how Ace is feeling right now, but I’m sure Zara i
We’re driving for a few minutes before Marcus starts up a conversation. “I take it from what I heard that you broke her hand?” He asks with a malicious smirk. “She’s lucky that’s all I did,” I deadpan. “Were you that jealous?” He teases. “I only get jealous about things that matter,” I say dismissively. The atmosphere in the truck becomes uncomfortable all of a sudden. “Are you saying I don’t matter?” He whispers. My head snaps to his and I can see the hurt all over his face. Fuck. Shit. Dammit. Great, now I’m the one putting their foot in their mouth. “Why the hell did you say that?! Fix it!” Zara yells in a panic. Neither of us wants to see Marcus hurt and it upsets me to know I hurt him. That wasn’t my intention. “That’s not what I meant,” I quickly say. “Then what did you mean?” He asks tersely. I rub my face taking a deep breath to think of how to phrase my words. “Have you ever felt jealous or envious over anything?” I ask. He frowns thinking over my questions. “No,
I was so sure that Davina’s sudden appearance had ruined my date with Amelia and our progress altogether, but that was not the case. It did, however, help me understand Amelia better and at the same time have me wracked with guilt for all the shitty things I said to her when we met. Everything she said pierced my heart and soul. She’s controlled and level-headed because one impulsive word or act would be detrimental to her position as an Alpha. She was right, I had made the same argument against her, so I know I was no better, but hearing her talking about what it was like for her growing up had me thinking about what it was like for me growing up. I never had to fight hard to be the Beta. Jasper and I were like brothers, so it was a no brainer. I just had to train to make sure I was the best Beta I could be. Jasper always worked hard because he loves and cares for his pack, but not once did anyone question if he would be a good Alpha because of his gender. The pack rejoiced the day

It’s been a month since the Luna ceremony and life has never been better. We’ve had a lot of new changes – mostly to hierarchy structure in the pack. Eric, as the second Beta of the pack, has taken on a lot of ‘traditional’ Luna roles. He oversees pack events and gatherings and his pack support group continues to work wonders. He’s basically the pack’s resident therapist, which I’m realising many were in desperate need of. Being superhuman beings we tend to brush aside our mental health and wellbeing and it’s definitely something that needed to change, so I’m thrilled it has. Evalyn still holds the title of Gamma but now she works alongside her brother Chris handling pack finances. She’s not as skilled in that area as he is, but the woman knows how to budget and she’s a good go-between for the pack and Chris. Evalyn was never going to be built for fighting and physical labour, but she wants to contribute as a ranked member, and nowhere does it say how those bonded to a ranked member n
We enter the main space, but he doesn’t stop, he pulls me straight into the bedroom and I can hear his heart beating faster. “Marcus, I– ” My words are silenced as he presses me against the door, devouring my lips and sucking the air right out of my lungs. My body’s reaction to him is automatic; instinctive. I fist the lapels of his jacket and pull him against me, needing to feel his body crush mine. Our lips are moving at a speed that screams hunger. “Hearing you stand up for me like that was one of the sexiest things I’ve ever fucking heard,” he growls seductively as he trails hot kisses down my neck as his hands explore my body. “I couldn’t stand her talking about you… like that,” I breathe out trying to remember how to speak as his kisses send tingles of pleasure right to my core. “Fuck, I love you,” he says as his mouth latches onto my mark and his hands knead my breasts through my corset. A cry of pleasure leaves me as his tongue lavishes my mark and wetness pools between my
I don’t have to walk too far before I’m standing in front of Jessica. I must admit she puts herself together very nicely. She’s wearing a beautiful ivory gown that hugs her slender frame. It has a built-in choker with a triangular front and half-open back and a high slit at the front of her right leg. She has her hair wild and free and has kept to simple gold band earrings, a gold bangle, and nude strappy high heels. Elegant and flattering. “You wished to speak to me,” I surmise. “I had hoped you would do the right thing before it went this far, but you proved me wrong. You’re his animai, you’re supposed to show him respect, instead, you are ruining my son. Everything he has worked for his whole life; gone in an instant. You’ve taken him away from his friends, his family, his home and turned him into…” she trails off with a spiteful look on her face. “I’m going to stop you there,” I interject. If she wants to insult me, she can do it until she turns blue, I really don’t give two sh
He did it. He really did it. I’m so elated that tears keep stinging my eyes, but I don’t care if people see me cry. Growing up I always figured I’d run this pack alone. That anyone the Goddess sent me wouldn’t want to be with an Alpha and certainly wouldn’t want to be a Luna. I tried to mentally prepare for it until the day Marcus blew into my life like a tornado. We have had highs and lows and through them, I still never thought we would be here. Marcus is now a member of this pack and its rightful Luna. I know he will care for everyone around him and fight to protect them; it’s who he is. I know that any fight or battle I face, he’ll be right there beside me and vice versa. We are one now in all the ways that matter. We’ve gone around chatting with pack members as he properly introduces himself to those he hasn’t met yet and receives welcomes and congratulations from everyone. My family and friends are so happy for him and for us and seeing them support Marcus, means the world to
The doors swing open, and my jaw almost drops. Don’t get me wrong, what Amelia did for the Vernal Ball was stunning, but this is magnificent. Or maybe it’s because this was done for me that has me so in awe. I’ve never had anyone do anything like this for me in my life, but she did. I don’t know how Zarseti thought I deserved this woman, but I’m glad she gave her to me. The glass doors around the room have been opened and red rose garlands and green vines with fairy lights hanging from the ceiling frame every entrance. Gone are the full-length wooden tables and instead the room is filled with circular tables just like at the ball. But this time they are covered in black satin tablecloths with gold cutlery and gold chairs. The centrepieces are made up of red roses with some kind of green leaves for a pop of colour. At the far end of the room to the right is a large arch made of vines and red roses that looks like nature forged it itself. In the centre of the arch is a small table with
Inhale. Exhale. Repeat. If I just keep doing that I should be fine. Is this how women feel before their Luna ceremonies? How do they not puke? I have been in fights, I’ve fought battles, I’ve fought for my life, but this is the first time I’ve felt petrified. Becoming the leader of a pack isn’t scary, I’ve been left in charge of Aurum Obscuro plenty of times when Jasper had to travel for business, but this is different. I don’t regret my decision; I will be the Luna of the Invictus Pack, I’m not backing out, but I can’t stop wondering what people will think of me. I’m about to be the first fucking male Luna. News will spread faster than an STD at a frat house. Will it lead to more attacks? What if I blow up at Amelia again because of all this? “For Goddess sake, stop spiralling, you’re making me dizzy,” says Ace. “Sorry, I’m just nervous,” I mumble. “Really? I thought you were writing poetry,” he says rolling his eyes. “A little support wouldn’t kill you every now and then.” “
Luna ceremonies are a lot of fucking work but thank the Gods I haven’t had to lift a finger. I used to make jokes about how all Lunas did was plan parties and events, I never meant it, but it is a big part of running a pack, and props to those Lunas. Amelia, Evalyn, and Eric have been working hard on planning this Luna ceremony, the only thing I’ve been asked to do was pick flowers, colour scheme and whether I want it indoors or outdoors. I chose indoors; the pack colours – so green and black – and red roses. I did ask to be left to handle what I’ll be wearing since I want to surprise Amelia. What a blessing Grandma Sorrell had been; she is a feisty bite-size woman. She is so delightful until she gets annoyed and then she’s dropping the hammer. The moment someone around the pack makes a snide comment about me being Luna, Sorrell is whipping them into shape. She doesn’t even have to do much. A strong smack to the head or a tug of the ears has them in tears and then she makes them do c
I kick the door shut behind me, throwing us both onto the bed, her body trapped underneath me. I trace her Alpha’s Mark on her heaving chest with my tongue to the sound of breathy moans as she bucks her hips against me, her needy pussy seeking what it knows can bring it unmatched pleasure. I press into her, grinding my hard bulge against her pussy covered by her soaking panties. “Is this what you want?” I ask as I slide my hand into her dress massaging her breast while gliding my tongue up her neck. “No,” she breathes, and before I know it she’s flipped us so she’s on top. Fucking hell, this is a nice view. “This is what I want,” she says, her eyes and voice full of lust. “Show me,” I tell her as I glide my hands up her inner thighs. She quickly pulls off her dressing tossing it away, my eyes getting hypnotized by the way her tits bounce from the action. She guides my hands to her panties, her eyes on me with so much dominance… you’d think I’d feel weird about it, but it’s fucking t
