My eyes opened and I found Enzo sitting on the corner of the bed, still not dressed.
"What the hell!"
I screamed, seeing his figure suddenly.
"What... It's my house."
He stated and yes it was his property but it didn't mean, he would intrude anywhere, anytime he wished to. Especially when there was a girl in the room, he couldn't barge in like that.
"Don't you know some basic manners. Can you just knock before you come in?"
I asked, it was more of a suggestion from my side.
"I am not used to knocking, I have always lived alone."
He admitted and I couldn't comment anything on that.
"Why are you here?"
I asked.
"I have a habit of going to work early. I have businesses to handle and as you are part of it now, don't you wanna get your responsibilities given to you?"
He asked and I wasn't sure what kind of responsibilities was he talking about.
"What job are you gonna assign to me?"
I asked nervous and excited. Mob businesses weren't some nine to five jobs which could be handled easily. They needed much more than time, they weren't suitable for a woman to work on. But I was determined to complete the duties I was assigned. Could face anything in order to get revenge from my husband and father.
"Whorehouses, fight clubs and bars aren't something you can handle, now. Let's start with something basic and uncomplicated."
He was stating the fact, I wasn't ready to face this hard side businesses and need more practice in illegal businesses to handle those.
"OK.. "
I said as I waited for him continue.
"How about you handle one of my five star hotels, Rexivo Oriental?"
He asked and for a second I thought was he being serious.why would he let me handle such a big business of him and that wasn't illegal, I assumed.
"Why would you trust me with such a big entity?"
I asked.
"Because I think you can do well and you won't be alone doing it our partners will help you and I know you won't betray as there wouldn't be a chance to do so."
He implied. Of course he would keep an active eye on me so that I wouldn't escape with his money.
"Where is the hotel situated?"
I questioned as I wanted to start working on it.
"Milan."
He said and what the fuck! The western coast where Alantino ruled, how did he manage to build his own hotel here. Alantino would have protested for sure.
"How could you have a hotel there?"
I asked and Enzo's expressions became serious.
"Our families once had a truce and my elder sister was offered to the Bernardo Russo, father of your husband, as you know. I was a seven year old kid back then. I hated how my sister used to cry whole day and night, when she was to be given to a man of our fathers age. But for our father the only thing that mattered was truce as he wanted to establish his hotel there. I couldn't help her even if I wanted to back then I felt emotions and feeling but now they are nothing to me. My father made his hotel there but one day my sister ran from Russo and she did it with plan, I was happy for that but father and Russo weren't. After the failed attempts of finding her the truce finally broke but they couldn't cease our hotel as we were much powerful."
I could sense how much Enzo loved his sister. But his expressions gave nothing. Maybe he wore a mask to hide his expressions from the world.
"Where is your sister now?"
I thought of ignoring the question but was curious. At least someone succeeded in escaping this life. If Enzo was happy about it maybe his sister told him about her whereabouts.
"They killed her. "
He said with a blank face, looking straight into my eyes and I got goosebumps. How could he say something like that, so easily.
"They found her a month after she escaped, in Hawaii. She was brought back here and was killed by Bernardo. My mother died when I was thirteen and I was inducted in the mafia business at the age of fifteen. I left my father after that and live alone since then."
He told and I felt pretty bad for him. Bernardo Russo was already married to Alantino's mother Rosalie, she was a sweet natured woman and a submissive to her husband for what I knew but Bernardo still wanted to marry Enzo's sister. How disgusting.
"I feel sorry for your sister."
I admitted. He didn't say anything just kept his emotionless mask on.
"I asked the servants to buy certain shoes and dresses for your use. They arranged them in the closet. Get ready fast. We will be leaving for Rexivo in thirty minutes."
He told and left the room.
I got up from the bed and tied my tangled hairs from yesterday's incident, into a bun. A bathrobe was laid on the couch, I quickly undressed myself to find the bruises around my waist and thighs they were stitched and treated . But the thing that I completely forgot about was, who changed my clothes and did the treatment of my injuries in the sensitive areas of my body? Could it be Enzo? I felt embarrassed at thought and decided to neglect it but it came in my mind again and again as I took a hot water shower.
I went into the walk-in closet, which was now filled with dresses, from casual to formal and cocktail dresses. There were dresses for every event and I wondered when did Enzo made servants arranged it all. And what the fucking time it was now? It felt so irritating not having a clock to check timing. It felt like time had stopped and I wasn't aware of it. Foolish thought, I know.
I chose a pastel green blazer along with matching trousers and a plain white tank top,as it was formal and sober and was perfect for my first day at work. After blow drying my dark brown hair, I pulled them up into a ponytail with middle partition and they reached a few inches above my butt. My hazel brown eyes were sparkly today, making me more confident. I applied mascara on my already thick lashes and a red lipstick to give a statement to my formal look. When I checked my reflection for the one last time, I couldn't believe it was me, the same Valerie, who was being chased just a day prior. So much had changed in a single day. I was a shy and boring girl but now I could feel the boldness in my look and would try to be bold with my work as well.
I was on my way to the door when there was a knock. Enzo was accurate of his time, I had been assuming the passing time in my mind as there was no clock in the room. I needed some gadgets for myself, I even left my cellphone in Alantino's car. He wouldn't find anything in that. It wasn't as if my father shared some secrets about business with me. I opened the door and he scanned me from head to toe in amusement. The thought came back to my mind, he had changed my clothes yesterday and I flushed at it but soon neglected it, not wanting to give Enzo any signal about what I was thinking. He straightened and said,
"You don't look like a nineteen year old girl. You have the traits of a lady now. So much changed in a single night."
He stated and was correct. I was glad that the change was observable.
"Can we leave for Rexivo now?"
I asked and he nodded towards the steps. I took the indication and walked towards the stair, Enzo followed. There were few luxurious cars parked outside the apartment and Enzo went towards a black Porsche cayenne and I realized it was the same car that hit me last night. I settled on the passenger seat, the engine came to life and we headed towards his hotel.
"Why do you live in Milan when you are actually supposed to control the southern Italy?"
I wanted to ask him about this from the starting but didn't get an opportunity to.
"I have my under bosses looking after my businesses in the southern coast but dealing here in the west coast is the most troublesome among my businesses. So I decided to handle it myself."
He told.
"So would I work under you in Rexivo?"
I asked him.
"What! No. You would have your policies over there. You will solely control it I mean obviously with the partners but not me."
He said.
"Then what would you do here? Will you go back to Taranto?"
Taranto was the place where he belonged, where his people were. It was his territory.
"No I have one more hotel set up at Genoa. It is much trouble giving than Rexivo. I go there to maintain things and keep everything in record."
He told and I knew he was not an easy man if he could stand two of his hotels in Russo territory. Alantino would be burning when he would see me and Enzo working together. Against him.
Enzo stopped the car in front of a tall, enticing, forty stories building. The aura of building gave me chills as the thought of managing such a big empire was exciting itself. The structure of the Rexivo was beyond belief with perfect balance of aesthetics. Enzo glared at me while I wasn't recovered from the view of the estate. It's simply great! He looked at me, fascinated and said,"Ready to work?""undoubtedly yes."I exclaimed and we went inside the opulent building. The aroma of the building was filled with leathery smell, mixed with musky and fruity smells. The combination was phenomenal. The reception lady smiled and bowed her head slightly when she saw Enzo and I wondered what it must have felt like when there were so many people, paying respect to you. After crossing the reception area we reached the waiting hall and oh my goodness! It was huge, no,giant. It was furnished with fine leather couches and chairs and air
It was sunny but all windy weather in the terrace and a good amount of people were having lunch there but still they barely filled only the half of the tables . Maybe, people mostly preferred having food in their suites."Come let's go there."Enzo pointed at a table which was decorated beautifully like it was arranged for a date."Isn't it reserved?"I asked him because maybe it was for some couple, why would they decorate it heavily, everyday."The reservation was cancelled."He said looking at his tab and then he pushed it toward me to take a look. There were rows and columns in the screen telling the table numbers and those who reserved or cancelled it."Hmm ...Quite a managerial work."I admitted. He smiled and we went towards the table and sat down, the smell of hyacinth and roses was exquisite and one can sit there until they fade. It wo
"Okay. I understood and I will contact Williams personally tomorrow."I said."Yeah but I would prefer you contact his right hand first and don't directly ask them to stay at our hotel. That will sound creep."He said as if I didn't knew that."Okay."I nodded."Don't you think you should be good at physical training as well. I will surely provide you a body guard but you should learn self defence too. As you would be the first mafia woman to run mob business."Enzo suggested and he was right. Once the legal proceedings were done I would have many adversaries who would try to get their hands on me. I wouldn't be some general girl, they would think of me as an equivalent enemy as Enzo."When can we start my self defence training?"I asked."Tomorrow morning but for now, the lawyer is com
I took a sigh of relief as the delivery guy handed me my order.I closed door and leaned against it, I wasn't sure what had made me this scared for opening the door but the relief I felt was equivalent as someone has removed a tons of weight from my back. I took the pizza and after pouring myself a glass of juice, I sat on the couch and ate it while watching TV. They were showing the Harry Potter series, the Voldemort was troubling the little boy. But Harry was able to muster the power to win upon the evil. I ate my pizza, watching the same movie, I had watched a tons of times. It was still fun to watch it. I ate my last slice of pizza and was already full to have the desert I ordered for myself. I was feeling dizzy but did not want to go to my room I decided on watching the TV until I could and eventually fell asleep on the couch, was too languid to switch off the TV.I don't know what time it was when I felt myself moving and my body felt a lot more lig
I panicked under Enzo's hand and he looked at me, I was petrified and nervous. Enzo followed my gaze and his grip on my shoulder tightened. Alantino made his way towards us with an unreadable face. I thought it wouldn't take me much efforts to face him, I thought I have mustered that much courage but somewhere I was wrong and for a second I thought of running away from there. But there was no turning back now, I had to face him, if I had to survive here and most importantly, to seek my revenge. I would only survive in peace, once I'd made sure that none of my adversaries, rest in peace."I suppose you have your hand on my property."Alantino said with a cold smirk to Enzo and then looked at me and the small hairs on my neck rose."Well, she is no one's property."Enzo said, pulling me towards him and exerting the more pressure in the word:property."You can't stay that close to her, she
"I loved it."I admitted to Enzo and he was still standing at the door, observing my expressions."I'm glad you liked it, but I'll take my leave here. Your assistant Chloe Winthrop will help you in everything. Also I'll be returning late today, so I have asked one of my best soldiers to not leave your side until I am back. He is standing outside."He told me and I peeked out to find a tall, muscular man, dressed in formals with a straight body posture, standing beside the door. He was as tall as Enzo, but I still didn't believe anyone or rely on anyone as much as I did on Enzo. But it was good to know that he cared for me and assigned me a personal bodyguards to my service. If he wanted he wouldn't have bothered about my life. He wanted to play games with his enemies and anyone could have done the help for him if not me. But it felt so good to know that he actually cared for me."Have a safe trip. I'll d
"That's a great news, Chloe."I said and there was a big grin on her mouth."I should call Enzo, first."I said and Cloe handed me the cordless phone, she was holding. But I kept it back on it's place because I wanted to call him from my personal number and for some reason it fascinated me to talk to him on phone, with my personal number. Crazy, wasn't I? I took out my phone from my handbag and was about to call him when the door flew open and Enzo's tall, muscular, beautiful body walked in. There was this formal look on his face which made him look all the more gorgeous. I pushed the thoughts aside. He was only my boss, in a way as he was letting me handle his hotel, nothing else... Right? He looked at me and said,"Congratulations on your first big achievement."He said and smiled. This time the smile reached his eyes that meant he was genuinely happy.
Enzo took a seat beside me and across Duke. Chloe and I watched him in utter shock, as he didn't even cared to explain his sudden appearance and even Duke was calm on his seat. After settling down, he looked at my bewildered face and smiled."Would you bother to explain your sudden appearance?"I questioned."I called Duke to check on everything, he told me you were planning to dine here, so I came to join you."Enzo answered."What about Genoa? You didn't you go there today?"I asked."No, Valerie I don't go there everyday. I have businesses to attend in Milan too."He said simply and that's when I realised he must also have his illegal businesses going on in here. The waitress served us food and I was happy that Enzo joined us for dinner but I was cursing Duke in my mind for telling everything to Enzo. Of course, Enzo cared for me for
"You should be sleeping now, you already had alcohol and I remember you refused to have champagne in your wedding, saying, you don't consume any alcoholic thing. When did you start drinking alcohol?"She asked in a solemn tone. She was worried at my situation, I wondered how pathetic I must have looked for her to be this concerned for my alcohol consumption."I still don't usually drink alcohol, this was the second time I did."I told her and a realisation struck her as her expression changed and gave me an encouraging smile."You've been through a lot Valerie but you must choose your ways wisely. Alcohol will only make ugh distracted from your goals and attracted to it."She explained to me as she helped me wipe my makeup off and undo my hairs."Mrs Russo... Mrs Russo helped me reach my home and I was feeling much better in the silence. She put her hand on my head and smoothened my hairs. Then gently sat beside me on the bed."Are you okay Valerie?"She asked gently with a motherly love, that I almost felt like hugging her and crying all my problems out. The void was so filled with depression. I was tired of all this, I didn't want to fight anymore but I couldn't even step back now. How many things would I have deal to survive in this world? I wanted to live not just survive."Not really."I answered in a hushed tone. I wasn't sure what to say, to tell her his son was the ultimate reason of all my suffering? Or should I tell her that her husband was the worst man I've ever seen? I couldn't, she was being nice to me and I couldn't take that for granted. I know she could only help me till she saw no threat in me but if I started making her familiar with my rea

"What are you doing Alantino? He's the son of one of our underbosses."Mr Russo reminded him but his expressions remained same. Deadly."He dared to touch Valerie."He said in a voice that would make anyone tremble out of fear and many of the people gathered around dance floor were already frightened. No-one would want to get their name associated with what that guy had been doing with me. And I could see many of them had already made a distance from me."That doesn't mean you'll beat him to death."Said Mr Russo as he gave a disgusted look towards the man lying on the floor drenched in blood. Then another disgusted look at my way."What did he exactly do?"He asked me and was he fucking kidding me, by asking me in what way did the man harass me, in front of everyone?"What did he do Valerie?"He asked again
"You look fabulous, Valerie!"Complimented Mrs Russo, who herself looked epitome of charisma. She always managed to look so effortlessly beautiful, she had a great sense in fashion."You look stunning! "I couldn't stop myself from complimenting her, she looked so gorgeous."Should we have something to drink, dear?"She asked and I knew her drink meant having to join other ladies, wives of mafia men."Yeah sure."I said despite the urge of not wanting to face those trophy wives who had poor ideologies of a lady and I certainly did not wanted to be their next target to have tea about. But then, Mrs Russo was the only person that would be easy to go with and I couldn't possibly be alone throughout the whole party.Mrs Russo directed me towards a group of ladies siting around the table, drinking and laughing and gossiping... we went inside the hotel and to the hall where party was meant to be."whose party is this?"I asked trying to know about the people I was surrounded with."It's the eighteenth birthday party of the only daughter of our enforcer."Alantino answered."Do mafia people even celebrate birthday of their daughters? I thought the only celebration for them was the induction day of their sons."I said the bitter truth of our world."True but our enforcer seem to love her daughter and he is not the only one who feels that way, there are many fathers in our world too who loves their daughters, sometimes more than their sons."His words made me think about a men that I have came across who loved his daughter as Alantino was saying, but I couldn't even remember of a single man with that quality.
