A Werewolf
Matthew had already made up his mind on some things and had called his secretary the night before to start the process of buying Emerald’s magazine. He was no more content with just watching her from a distance. He had always been possessive towards her but this time. He was unable to hold back his need to possess her anymore. He wanted her. He did not care about the consequences of her entering his world. He drove over to her work place the next day. He usually did not control companies himself, but wanted to be closer to her, so he took on the job of CEO. The moment Matthew drove to her office, he heard the sound of her familiar heartbeat, smelled her familiar scent as he entered the elevator with his assistants, and the elevator climbed all the way to her floor. The smell got even stronger as they moved up, this let him know he was getting closer to her. The elevator doors opened, and it did not take him more than a second to lock eyes with her. The moment she saw his face, she went as pale as a sheet of paper. For some reason, her erratic heart at this moment and the look of horror on her face was very interesting to him. It only took a second before he looked away, but her world seemed to have been completely crushed to rubble. There was no hope, life was bleak. Just when she thought she would have time to clear her head, he had to be her boss. Why did he buy her company? He greeted the department managers before making his way to the top floor. He had only bothered to greet certain specific departments when he entered, as they were very key to the projects he was about to take on. He wanted to know every one of them by face. His mood was chaotic when he first entered the office today, but the moment he saw her face, for some reason his mood had lifted. “Emerald,” he tasted her name on his lips before going ahead to fulfill his task for the day, While he was having the time of his life, Emerald’s life was completely getting destroyed. It did not take long for her enemy Lucy to notice that something was definitely wrong and come around like a vengeful ghost to haunt her when she’s at her lowest. “Miss Jackson, why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Lucy asked “Maybe it’s because I have seen a ghost,” Emerald said, always haunting me, hovering around looking for a moment to pound to take over. “If you are not a ghost or poltergeist what would you be?” Emerald asked. “You dare call me a ghost? I was just worried about you. You suddenly became several shades whiter. It can’t be that you have already annoyed the CEO before he’s even entered the office, right?” Lucy asked. Emerald wondered how she could be so spot on. To this, she nearly frowned and almost gave herself away. Did she really notice? She did not believe it. “Wouldn’t that mean that I know the CEO? I did not know you had such wild imaginations, Lucy. But don’t worry, if any of us is going to offend the CEO first, if any of us is going to get in trouble first, it most definitely wouldn’t be me,” Emerald said. She felt she had hidden it enough, hoping Lucy Leaves, she returned to her task very quickly. She would need to find time after work to talk to him. Soon, she found space that night. Matthew, on the other hand, was oddly uncomfortable since the kiss from the night before. His emotion churned all night and as the day grew, the tension in his being was expanding, his emotions were building and were about to explode. But, night had come. No matter how much he tried to stay focused, he felt he was about to transform. This was odd, given that even a full moon would not be able to force him to transform and go into full blown rage as a pure blood wolf king. He hurriedly dismissed his assistants and secretaries and made sure he was alone. Unknown to him, a little rabbit was coming up to make things worse. If he had been half as sane as usual he would have noticed the moment he stepped out of the elevator on his floor. He had forgotten to lock the door to his office and while he was barely holding on, barely keeping sane, his office door cracked open and a little rabbit stuck her head through. The room was dark, but Emerald could still make out a man in front of a desk, so she inched closer. Because she had started rattling away her memorized apology, she did not even register the sound of growling that close to her. The next moment she found herself slammed onto the office desk. She was disoriented for a moment only to look up into very wide eyes she saw his face distort inhumanly and found that his teeth were too much like that of a wild beast, they could know more be called teeth. They looked like fangs; they did not just look like fangs, they were fangs. The moment she noticed what was happening, her mind raced, fear gripped her. She had watched enough movies to know, this was the moment someone would get killed. She struggled and thrashed wildly but his grip was too strong. “Mr. Reeves,” she called out to him but he seemed unable to hear her. “Matthew Matthew !!” she started to call his name and for some reason, he had a hint of clarity and his grip weakened enough for her to crash onto the floor and crawl away from him whether because of panic or plain stupidity she crawled away from the door seeing as he was now by the doorway, she knew her route out had been blocked. “What are you?” she asked and crawled away. For some reason, the look of horror on her face cooled his head a lot. “This is Murder! My meat will be stuck in your teeth for a thousand years,” she said and he could not help but laugh. He was not changing. He was back to human form. “What nonsense do I use to sprout?" he asked, don’t people usually ask for their enemies to die at this time or to be saved?” “Where do you see a savior coming?” she asked him, “Since you are going to eat me anyway, I must make sure you don’t enjoy even a second of the process. I pray for your food to be bitter,” she said. Seeing that he had calmed down, she was slightly relieved but knew she had gotten herself into worse trouble. “I won’t eat you,” he said and turned away, but she did not dare escape as her knees were weak. “What are you?” she asked. “What do you think?” he asked and turned back to watch her. “Please, I won’t tell anyone.” Emerald dreaded this moment very much. She thought of all the things she had done wrong that got her to this point; she should not have agreed to the deal to act as his wife, she should not have come to his office to apologize in the dead of night, now look where she was. “ I promise I will not tell anyone, Matthew .” No matter how many times she begged he remained paused, staring at her as though he had just discovered something interesting. “How am I sure you're not going to tell anyone? ” “I am really tight lipped Matthew , I will take it to the grave,” she said. “You are right, it will be safer in the grave; if not you, at least my secret, ” Matthew said, and she fell to dread calm over her all over again. “You were not this scared when you kissed me in the woods,” he said and she paused. “What?” she asked. “You had kissed me in the woods and said you will marry me, now you are going back on your word.” “What nonsense are you sprouting?” Emerald was annoyed. Why is he pulling out lies from thin air? “So, you never kissed a wolf in the woods as a child and promised to marry him?” he asked, looking at her curiously as he took out a new shirt from his drawer and changed. “Of course I have not kissed…” the words died in her throat when that memory crossed her mind. She really had kissed a wolf and promised to marry him. “Really? You were very scared that night,” he said and she swallowed loudly. “So now what? ” she asked. When he saw the defeated look on her face, for some reason he was not pleased. He did enjoy her begging, but her look of defeat bothered him greatly. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, and definitely irritated, heroes to his feet and felt agitation come over him as he paced around his office. “I will do everything you ask, I will not leave your sight if you don't want me to, ” He turned around and looked at her small figure by the corner, and something about her shivering irritated him. Matthew was a predator, he could smell fear. It was both his weapon and his sense of being. But when he smelled her fear, it annoyed him. “Not so brave now, are you? ” he asked. For some reason, his words sparked a thought in her head; did he enjoy this? Did he enjoy watching her pain? At that moment, she stood and stared at him straight in the face. “What are you going to do with me? ” she asked. “No more scared? ” he asked. “Are you going to kill me? ” she asked him, and his eyes narrowed. Her emotions were consistent; she was scared from the moment she saw what he was, but her reaction bounds between cowardice and bravery. Sometimes she dared not look at him, the next time she was full of courage. He was utterly curious about her. “No,” he said and she nodded. I walked right past him out of his office. She paused at the door and looked back at him, “When you have decided what to do, let me know, ” she said and left him standing there. His demeanor brought a wide smile to his face; her back looked straight and her voice sounded slightly shaken but strong, but he could hear her heartbeat racing in fear. He seemed to have finally found that thing about her that completely excited him. As Emerald walked away, her legs wobbled, threatening to drop her to the floor. But, she was determined to get into the elevator and leave that floor. She knew very little about him, she was not sure if he would change his mind and come after her. While he was still sane, intended to leave quickly. The elevator opened shortly after she pressed the button, and she dashed in. Before the door could close a hand interrupted it out of nowhere. Her heart leapt to her throat at the sight of the person on the other side. “I will take you home, ” he said. “That is unnecessary, ” she said. All the hair on her skin rose sharply at his words. She would be actually stupid if she let him take her home. “I can find out where you live, you know. You had filled out your personal information correctly, right? ” he asked and she bit her lips and looked down at her feet. “I insist, ” he said. The elevator went all the way to the basement parking lot and they got out. Even though the parking space was greatly lit, she could not reduce the absolute fear she felt to be alone in his presence at this moment. What if he does something to her on her way home? What if she never gets home? She followed him up to his car and hesitated before getting in. At first, the drive was silent, until he reminded her she had yet to tell him where she lived. “Or would you prefer I take you back home with me?” he asked and she began to shake all over again. “Calm down, I won’t kill you,” he said in frustration. He was not sure what he wanted from her. He was obviously excited by her fear, yet bothered by it. “Who marries just because of a childhood promise. Why is mine coming to hunt? I also promised to give my childhood neighbor four children, is he also going to pop out?” she blurted and his cold gaze swept over her. “Your mouth is really quick, isn’t it? It moves before your brain can keep up,” he said. “I’m sorry,” she lowered her head. “I won’t kill you? At least not to keep my secret,” he said in frustration. “Really?” she asked. “Really,” he said, and even if she did not believe him, she found herself breaking into tears. Her tears came out of nowhere, making him frustrated and panicked at the same time.To Obey His Wife“Why won’t you believe me? Why would I kill you?” Matthew asked.“So that your secret does not get out,” she said.“Is that what you are worried about? Not that you are my wife?” he asked and her tears fell like rain.“If you think about it, no one would believe you if you told anyone, so…” Matthew tried finding words to convince her, but her cries only got louder.“You are lying, you are taking me back to kill,” she cried loudly. She could no more keep up her brave front as all her tall walls collapsed and she cried like a child. Her crying bothered him so much, it felt as though his chest was about to explode from the pain. His legs came down on the brakes and he immediately turned to her.“I swear I won’t kill you to keep my secret, okay? Stop crying,” he told her. “How am I supposed to believe you?” she cried even harder. He had said so many words, yet, no matter how much he said, her tears came down like rain. He was so frustrated that he got out of the car, s
Waking in his armsEmerald was not sure how she slept that night but by the time she opened her eyes the next day, Matthew’s strong arm was wrapped tight around her midsection, gluing her back to him in the process. She froze; the complicated situation of the last night made a waltz through her brain. She was shocked to fear, confused and terrified. The moment she woke up, Matthew knew, but he did not want to let go. He watched her freeze, panic, then struggled, before stopping. “Mr. Reeves, Mr. Reeves,” she called, growing frustrated every second he did not seem to wake, “Matthew!” she called.“Was it so hard to call my name?” he asked and let go. She escaped the moment his arm loosened, dashing into the bathroom and returning a minute later to get her clothes. He glanced at the time on his phone and back at her hurried state. She would be late if they did not leave in twenty minutes. He got up and adjusted his clothes, knotted his tie and wore his shoes. It was not as though he
Trying to become a third partyEmerald was so distracted all day, it was a miracle she could even get any work done. She had just gotten ready to get off work for the week when her phone rang. It was a number she had never seen before. She picked it up and a familiar voice rang from the other end.“Come down, I am waiting for you,” she heard Matthew order. His voice seemed colder than she recalled. She swallowed at his words and adjusted her mind. She must not argue. Even though he had said he would not kill her, this was a dangerous man. No, could he even be called a man? He was a dangerous being. If she made a mistake, she would get killed.“At the basement parking lot?” she asked tentatively.“Yes,” he answered and she packed her things and went down. When she arrived at the basement, she was confused and could not find his car. Just when she was beginning to get frustrated, she heard a car horn go off and she looked in that direction. She did not recognize the car, but she walk
A fight broke outSince Emerald had started, she decided to get to the very end.“You walking trash family, it is no wonder you would give birth to trash,” Emerald almost felt the need to curse.“Do you believe I will kill you right here?” When he heard his mother getting scolded, the drenched Andrew raised his hand to throw a slap but Emerald picked a tray and slapped his hand away, before slamming it into his face.“Andrew, You dare try to touch me?” she asked and slammed his face with the tray again. When the drenched woman Nina saw him get hit, she exploded in rage.“You dare hit him?” Nina attempted to throw a slap, but the heavenly stainless steel tray wasn’t done. Emerald connected the edge of the tray to her jaw and a scream broke.“Dirty bitch,” Emerald cursed. Emerald’s blood was boiling. She did not know why. For some reason, she was filled with lots of strength. At this point, the commotion in the room was being spectated through the door Emerald had slammed open when she
A Mate“Mate? Are you snow white? I should not have come to your office without an appointment to try and apologize, but that can’t be the reason I have to live with you,” she said. Emerald was frustrated. She had heard him say that they were married so much, it was annoying her.“I don’t have to be here, do I?” she asked.“Yes, you have to be. Not only do you have to be close by, you have to be close enough to touch. We will have to set some ground rules.” he said.“What do you mean close enough to touch?” she asked.“We sleep in one room,” he said.“No! Rule one, my room is off limits. You are in no circumstance allowed to be there unless I allow it,”“How can a couple sleep in different rooms?” he asked.“Move along. I am not budging on this.”“Rule two, we will have you working from home. I can come around and watch you work,” he said. She could not seem to notice that he was teasing her.“No! Rule two, while you live here, you must be quiet and cause no trouble, I hate noise,” s
A Mother-in-law “Where are you going?” he asked.“It’s morning already, are we still going to be in bed like this all day?” she asked.“Why not?” he asked back.“I am hungry, I need to use the bathroom,” she said and he let her go. She entered the bathroom to clean up quickly. By the time she walked out, she realized he was gone. This made her sigh in relief. She slowly took care of her matters before coming down. She wasn’t sure what the rule for food was.She wondered if he would let her use the kitchen. But the moment she descended to the first floor, a staff member walked over and informed her that Matthew was waiting for her in the dining room to have breakfast. She was led to the dinning where Matthew was seated waiting.“Sit and eat,” he said and she looked at the food in front of her. She had never seen this much food served as breakfast before for two people. Was someone else joining them? She wondered. She slowly took her seat and looked at all the food. She was not sur
To Marry Matthew ReevesHe could still hear her heartbeat inside the house. Once in a while, his mind would wander to her heartbeat before relaxing and continuing with work.Time passed into the afternoon and he soon heard her heartbeat approach the living room. He was greatly distracted and thought she came down for some food, but soon found she seemed to be leaving the house.“Where are you going?” he had rushed over quickly the moment he realized where she was going. There was a slight panic in his heart and he could not tell why.“I am going to visit my mother,” Emerald did not like answering him as she felt he was trying to restrict her, but she knew by now not to fight this man.“Let a driver take you,” he said. It was not a suggestion, it was an instruction. She knew that and knowing only made her more annoyed. “No, thank you, I called a taxi,” she rejected, making sure to hide her dissatisfaction. But she was not quite successful. He still noticed something when he said those
ArrestedMartha Jackson had just come out of a meeting when she was surrounded by police. She raised a brow.“Officers, what is this about?” she asked. She had already resolved the issue from last time when they were arrested at the restaurant. Why was she being arrested again?“Martha Jackson, you are under arrest for attempted abduction,” an officer said.“What? I assure you, officers, this is a misunderstanding,” Martha said. She had already handled this matter and was not sure why it was coming back to haunt her.“The men who had attempted the abduction have been caught and named you as the one who hired them,” an officer said and Martha frowned. How was this possible?Emerald though, did not get to go on a coffee date with Dr Kent. He could not find time off work.It has always been this way with him. Almost as though they could never make time. She was not sure why he wanted to see her, but she had quickly forgotten him.So, she went home early.Again, she slept with Matthew
A Red Wolf Though the leaders escaped, along with a few others, one by one, the others fell. The forest was stained with the dark hue of blood and smelled of raw flesh when they were done. Some were captured, their limbs bound by glowing restraints woven from a magical tool made specifically to capture witches. Some were captured to be interrogated by Amanda, while other luckier ones died on those forest grounds. As the last of the witches fell, Amanda surveyed the aftermath, her eyes taking in the scene with a lot of satisfaction. “Take them to my torture room,” She handed over the guide for the restraints binding the captured witches, allowing her wolves to drag them forward for interrogation. She was sure that with a little help, their tongues would loosen. When the battle against the witches stopped, Matthew turned his attention to Emerald. He could sense her distress, her heartbeat was pounding so loud it scared him. The shock of witnessing such carnage and violence
Retreat As Nyx moved to stand protectively beside Emerald, the witches’ eyes widened in shock, their gazes fixated on the woman. How did she wake up so quickly? They heard she would be out for a few months. They even sent one of their own to place her under a spell so that she sleeps longer. “How has she recovered so quickly?” one of them hissed, their words dripping with suspicion. They had heard that werewolves shared their healing properties with their mates, but they did not think she would recover that easily. What in the devil’s name was going on? Matthew’s form rose, his muscles tensing as a low growl rumbled from deep within his chest. “Did you order the attack on Emerald?” he demanded, his eyes were darker than usual and His bloodlust filled the air. The witches remained silent, their lips pressed into thin lines as they refused to answer his question. Matthew’s anger flared, the dense bloodlust radiating from his powerful form almost choking them. He just attack
The first Wave of Attacks. With those inside in danger, those outside wolves wasted no time in springing into action. Usually their kind involved the strongest surviving and would not usually help one another. But as it looks, if they look away, they will lose more than half the packs in existence. They surged forward, their powerful forms disappearing through the shimmering portal that led to the Shadow realm. If a person listens closely, they could hear a chorus of snarls and howls erupted from the other side of the shadow realm gate, signaling the commencement of a fierce battle.Inside the shadow realm, it was pure chaos.Towering creatures appeared with a ferocious speed that tore through the werewolves’ defenses. The werewolves fought valiantly, moving with lightning speed, their jaws snapping and claws slashing as they engaged these ancient beings in combat. The Stillwater family came together and led the charge with their imposing figure at the forefront of the fray. "Prot
The Hunt"This hunt is not merely a test of strength or prowess," the elder explained. "It is a rite of passage for some, a chance to evolve for others, but whatever it may be, pure glory awaits those who hunt the best."The wolves howled and cheered at the elder’s words."Within the Ancient Land, there dwells many creatures." The elder continued and silence returned "Massive, fearsome beast that will test not only your physical strength but your mental strength too.Your task is to hunt and bring back the largest game they can find. Bring their essence stored in their hearts."A shiver ran down Emerald's spine at her words but the young wolves seemed undaunted, their eyes alight with a mixture of excitement and determination."The only rule in the hunt is to return alive,” she said solemnly and silence returned.“Some of you will die in the shadow realm. When you step through that door, you stand alone,” the elder concluded, her voice solemn. "I wish you all a great hunt. May the bes
Preparations. The meeting went on for a while after that. The date for the hunt was set and many things prepared.By the time Matthew returned to his room, the sun had long since risen high in the sky. He found Emerald coming out from the side bathroom, her hair damp and her skin flushed from the heat of her bath.Without a word, he crossed the room and pulled her into a fierce embrace, burying his face in the crook of her neck as he inhaled her comforting scent. Emerald tensed momentarily, surprised by his sudden display of affection, but soon relaxed into his embrace, her arms winding around his broad shoulders. She was sure irritated a lot these days as she was tired, but she was always calmed when she was in Matthew’s arms. They stood like that for several heartbeats, before Matthew finally pulled back, his eyes drinking in every detail of her face as if committing it to memory. Emerald thought that he sure was clingy. But for Matthew, he had only stepped out but it felt like
A forced vote.Matthew’s eyes flashed with a thought when he heard his father-in-law’s words. He thought back to the woman sleeping in his quarters, whose hair was slowly going red.“One problem at a time. For now, we should hear what the other families have to say to call for an assembly,” Matthew said with a smile hidden in his eyes.“But who called for one?” Nyx asked and they stepped out to look at the runes in the sky. A glowing symbol floating above.“The Taylor family? Who?” an elder asked.“They are that family rumored to also be of Stoneheart bloodline,” Harold said and everyone had many thoughts in their head.“Things are about to get interesting,” Matthew said with a smile. They all made their way to the white halls. The white halls were a grand gathering place for all the great families. This was considered the seat of power where they all gathered and made the decisions of the ancient land. It was still dark, but the white marble walls still reflected light, almost glow
The MeetingThe moment the Stillwater family entered the ancient land, a large wolf call started.Emerald jolted awake, her eyes snapping open as the distant howls of wolves pierced the early morning silence. Beside her, Matthew stirred, his muscular arms stretching under the sheets as he too woke up the moment she did."It's alright," he murmured, his voice still thick with sleep. "Go back to sleep. It's just the wolf's call."Emerald frowned, her brow furrowing as she tried to make sense of his words. "Wolf's call? What's that?"Matthew propped himself up on one elbow, his eyes glinting in the dim moonlight filtering through the curtains. "It's a tradition among my kind," he explained patiently. "The wolves gather in the forest and howl, marking their territory and warning others of their presence. A family has probably just arrived."Emerald nodded slowly, but she was still uneasy and could not sleep. "I don't think I can sleep anymore," she admitted sheepishly.A smile made its w
The Witch CouncilThe red robed group appeared in another forest. “Check for werewolves,” Kendal instructed her subordinate and the young woman started a spell to check if there were werewolves in the vicinity.Without another word, she turned and strode back towards the clearing, the hooded figure following her reluctantly. He desperately wanted to catch as many young wolves from the Stillwater family as possible and break their necks but they left quickly so he would have to hold it in.As they made another stone altar, the others were waiting, their faces looking as though they had words at the tip of their tongues but held it in. Jay stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he took in the scene before them."What happened?" Jay demanded, his gaze flickering between Kendal and the bloodied figure.“One of the werewolves could not control themselves," she replied with disdain. This is why she did not want to work with werewolves. Sure those werewolves who came to their side held gr
The Last great familyFar away, in the Stillwater family, the young wolves were holding a morning call. Intruders. In the early hours of the morning, while the moon was still high in the sky, when the forest was cloaked in darkness, the young wolves wandered the forest. They were only of the last families to leave for the ancient land. They were quite dissatisfied with how things had taken true. They were the ones to host the hunt this year. There were benefits to being the host, but when it was their turn, the Reeves family proposed moving to the ancient land. They were not so quick to comply. That morning, their young wolves ventured into the forest to do their morning call. Unknown to them, they were not the only ones there.Hooded figures emerged from the shadows. Their movements were stealthy, footsteps muffled by the damp undergrowth as they moved deeper into the heart of the forest behind the Stillwater family mansion. These mysterious individuals carried shovels and tools,
