The Next day..
As I got back home from the café I work at during the day, I picked up a bottle of water to drink water then proceeded to pack my hair into a bun, I picked up my work bag and worked my way out of the little flat I call home.Playing with the ring on my index, I stand at the curve of the road waiting for the bus to arrive. Seeing People dressed sharply coming back from work made my heart ache a bit because I knew that no matter how much I dreamt it wasn't a luxury that I would never be able to afford.Dreaming was just not for me anymore. The bus finally arrived and I got on by tapping my card and finding a seat in the middle. I look out the window and watch the scenery go by. I close my eyes for a nanosecond to get myself together to face the world I was about to walk into once more. I sigh as I open my eyes as another passenger comes to sit beside me.Finally, the bus gets to my stop and I alight.Looking up at the neon lights of the club, I crossed the road to get in.“Bailey, you are here early,” Robin says. He is a very dark and buff man, one of the bouncers of the place and one of the few people that ensured I was comfortable in this place. I nod, giving him a slight smile. I reach into my bag and bring out a bag of cookies I was able to take home and stretch it toward him.“If you keep feeding me these every day then I might have to consider taking another job because you are going to make me fat.” I giggle at his statement and place the bag in his outstretched palm.“You’re welcome anyways,” I say as I walk into the place. The stark difference from how the club looks once the customers are in welcome me.I sigh as I place my bag on the table and walk up to the pole to perfect my performance for the night.Once down with that I pick up the bag once more and walk into the backroom to eat since I’m the only one here at the moment. Two hours later, the backroom was bustling with half-clad women rushing from one point to the other. I open the transparent garnet packaging bag and pull on the outfit. John, the club manager with slicked-back hair and a perpetual smirk, approached me. His voice was rough, like sandpaper on rusty metal. “Angel, you are on next,” he said, his eyes scanning my body as if sizing up his newest prey. Angel was my stage name here, john gave it to me personally which i still feel is unfair because everyone here got to choose their stage themselves I forced a smile and nodded, my fingers trembling ever so slightly. “Good luck out there,” John added, his tone dripping with condescension. I headed towards the stage, but before I could step onto it, Robin blocked my path. His towering frame made him look like a human wall even with the …inch heel I put on. “Remember, Angel,” Robin said, his voice gentle despite his intimidating appearance, “you are better than this place. Do not let them break your spirit.” I sighed, appreciating his perception but understanding the harsh reality that kept me here. As the pounding beat of the music coursed through my body, I locked eyes with May, a fellow stripper. She had fiery red hair and a smile that hid the pain the had behind her emerald-green eyes “Angel, you ready for another night in hell?” May shouts over the music. I nodded, my voice got lost in the noise of the club. It was a simple question, but it held a whole lot of understanding between us. This club and the men who frequented it were the enemies we battled every night, and our weapons were seductive.Closing my eyes and letting out a breath I open my eyes once my cue song hits and stroll towards the pole. It was way noisy out here. The chants and hoots of the men increased as I stood on my tippy toes a couple of inches away from the pole before spinning with my hold still on the metal stick.Leaning back against it with my foot against my knee I did an outside step before clamping my knees on the pole as I dragged myself down while keeping the spin. This made it rain almost immediately. I pull myself up in a sitting position before spinning around and landing on the floor with a split. The men round the stage stretched their hands forth and tucked wads of cash in my outfit. Doing a little more I end the performance and walk off the stage panting.“You did well as always,” John says approaching me to collect the cash from me and proceeds to count it before handing me my share.“ I’m short of staff today. So you will have to bartend for the rest of the night ““But-“ He walks off, cutting me off and leaving me standing.May was waiting for me in the backroom of the club as usual. We were each other’s wingmen. She had a bottle of water ready, knowing how thirsty I always got after a performance. With a grateful smile, I accepted the bottle and took a long, refreshing gulp. “Great job tonight, Angel!” May exclaimed, her eyes still fixated on the stage. “You know how to work the crowd.” I swallowed the water and blushed at the compliment and looked down at the floor. “Thanks, May. I am still trying to get the hang of it, though. It is all new to me, you know?” I say closing the bottle. May nodded sympathetically. “I remember when I first started. It can be overwhelming, but you will get the hang of it. Just remember to keep your head held high and embrace your unique style. One step at a time.” I let out a sigh and twirled a lock of my hair nervously. “Sometimes I feel like I am not cut out for this. I mean, I never expected to be a stripper. It is not exactly the career path I had in mind.” May leaned closer to me, her voice soft and comforting. “Angel, don’t be so hard on yourself. We all have our reasons for being here. It is just a job, my love, nothing more. You are beautiful, talented, and deserving of the same respect as anyone else anywhere, okay?:” Tears welled up in my eyes at the motivation and I wiped them away with the back of my hand. “Thank you, May. It means a lot to hear that from you. I guess I just need to learn to feel comfortable in my skin and not let judgments get to me.” May smiled warmly and reached out to give me a reassuring hug. “You will get there, Angel. Trust me. If you ever need someone to talk to or have any questions about this whole place, I’m here for you.” I nodded, feeling a newfound strength building within me. “Thank you, May. I appreciate all you do for me and we’re going to conquer this one step at a time more like one dance at a time.” I say making her giggle. And with that shared determinationMay and I faced the mirror, staring at our reflection of the women we’ve become. I picked up a wipe and wiped my makeup off since I wasn’t going back on stage while May applied an extra coat of lip gloss before heading back into the noise-filled club.We may be strippers, but we are also strong, determined women with ambitions and aspirations beyond the stage. Together, we would rewrite the narrative and prove that our worth extended far beyond.I made my way over to the bar to spend the rest of the night bartending to drunk men. Twenty minutes later, John signals me to the end of the bar. I excuse myself from the customer and walk over to him. There is a man in room six for you.”“W-what, I d-don’t do private dances.” I stutter.“Well, that has to change. He just paid two grand to see you so I suggest you start moving.” He says leaving me standing.I make my way to room six and push the door. The door swung open. In the room lit with red light bulbs, I saw a man sitting confidently. In the middle of the room. He looked up at me and offered a warm smile waiting for a reaction from me, I immediately recognize him and I say,“Who are you and why have you been following me?”“Miss Simons.”“How do you know my name?” I ask fiercely. “I know you must have seen me one of these days and you must have been curious about my identity.”I was terrified. I did not know what to do or say. The man continued, “I do not mean you any harm. I really just want to talk to you.” “You did not answer me. Who are you and why have you been following me?” I said angrily.“I can not give you all of the answers right now, but I promise to explain everything if you’d agree to meet with me tomorrow. I would like you to meet someone.”“Why should I put my trust in you?” I don’t even know you, how do I know that this is not a lie that you use to abduct innocent people, for all I know you might be a kidnapper or one of those men who sells women for money”, I ask, trying to put on a tough face even though i was beyond terrified. He smiled softly and said.“I understand your concerns Miss Simons but consider this if I have ever had any intention to harm you, I would have probably do
THE MYSTERIOUS MANW-What, is this a joke?”I exclaimed, literally jumping up from my seat as I glared at both Mr Orton and the mystery man who just kept staring at me like I had something on my face.“This is crazy, outrageous even. I-I can’t do that, I don't even know you guys.“Just think about it. “Ok?”There’s a lot you’ll be gaining from it, and…“And what?”. I say, cutting him off.“How do you know I’ll be gaining from it? You don’t even know me.”“Trust me Mrs Simmons, I am well aware of your financial situation, and this contract is offering more than you make in a year with your two jobs combined.” The mystery man said while staring at me intensely.“And also,” Mr Orton chipped in. “A contract will be drawn so you’ll also get a say in everything and it will be tailored to benefit you both.” I guess Mr Orton was trying to do some damage control. As he probably noticed me standing there with my two arms crossed around each other fuming with anger and wondering why I thought co
It has been four days since I went to meet Luke and his boss, William and I still have not come to a conclusion if I will be accepting the offer or not. I haven’t even told Shayna about the offer and she has always been in the known for everything occurring in my life.I knew I couldn't hide this from her.I used the back door to enter the club because the main entrance was so crowded today and I guess it was probably because the club has been open for a while now.I wasn’t supposed to come in today but I was asked to fill In for Tara, one of the bartenders. As I walked to the backroom, I couldn't help but notice May coming in from the front. I am guessing she had just finished her performance. I decided to creep up to her back, just to frighten her a little.“Are you done for the day?” I ask her and she jumps and turns around immediately, holding a hand to her chest.“My God! Are you trying to kill me?” She says playfully, glaring at me, making me grin.“Now, why would I do that?”
“Have a wonderful day,” I say to the customer I just finished serving as the next customer walks forward. “Welcome to Daisy’s, what can I get you?”The day has been quite a struggle. Aside from the busy chatter of the customers and the heat wave outside of the cafe, what my decision to the offer I was made five days ago would be was also bothering me, the thought kept on lurking and burning at the back of my mind. And I couldn't stop thinking about it no matter how hard I tried.I would have just called Luke Orton or William Armani himself but I don’t have either their personal or work number so I will just have to go to the office to see them and be faced with the Likes of Stacy one more time.My thoughts were interrupted by a young woman dressed up in her office uniform.“Hello, welcome to Daisy’s, what can I get you?”“a black coffee, no sugar, two vanilla lattes, and a box of doughnuts. Here’s the company card.” She hands the card over to me and I debit it and hand the card back t
“Yes, I have.” I nod anxiously.“And what’s your decision?”“Before I answer your question, I would like to know exactly what I’ll be doing in detail as Mr Armani’s, “WIFE”, you people can’t just keep in the dark about something like this and just expect me to comply.” I said in a tone that came out angrier than I had anticipated.“Patience Bailey, if you decide to accept the offer then you’ll surely be filled in about all the details of what your job as Williams' pretend wife will comprise of.” He said “And like I said last time, we cannot go into detail about any information in regards to the agreement until you sign the non-disclosure agreement, do you now understand Bailey?” he asked as he leaned backwards on his chair giving me a slight smile.I nodded anxiously“Good, so what’s your decision?”, he said as he picked up a pen from his desk to scribble something on the book infront of him.“I accept the offer.”“Great! William isn’t in the office today but he'll be back tomorrow n
“Pfftttt,” she spewed the water right out of her mouth in a sudden burst, splashing water all over the table and my clothes.“Shayna!” I exclaimed“What’s wrong with you?” I said as I stood up to get a napkin to wipe my shirt with.“Sorry, it was a mistake,” she pouts.“But Bails, you’re joking right?” she exclaims immediately after.“No, I am not, why? What happened? Do you know him or something?”“Know him? You can’t be serious right?”“Ha-Ha-Ha,”“you got me because…” She took a sip of water and continued her rant.“There is no way that you are entering into a pretend marriage with ‘the’ William Armani, He has only been featured on Clique magazine for being one of the youngest and hottest billionaires for like what, 4 times in a row now? He even campaigned in that weird but sexy Calvin Klein underwear advertisement last year.”“So he’s like a celebrity?” I ask with uncertainty and she rolls her eyes smacking her forehead.“Yes, Bails, what are you Patrick?” She says and she smacks
We finally arrived at the airport and were ushered to a packing spot away from the arriving and departing crowd. I began to wonder if he owned a private jet. I can’t believe how nice the other percentage of life is.The time on the dashboard read exactly 7.30pm. Luke got out of the car to make and take some calls and judging from where I sat, he seemed to be very angry at whoever he was talking to. He came back into the car ten minutes after with a loud sigh, hitting his head softly on the steering wheel. I guess it was probably an attempt to calm himself down.I glanced at the dashboard once more and the time read 8pm. I wondered what got Luke so worked up, perhaps something bad had happened to William?Even if I didn’t know William personally, I couldn't help being worried because Luke looks like he is really stressed out about something and I didn't know how to ask Luke to confirm or deny my assumptions.I glanced at him once more. Maybe he had felt my eyes on him because he immed
Luke dropped off Henry at his apartment building before driving to William’s place. By the time we arrived at William’s large black gate, the time on the dashboard read 10.30pm.William opened his gate remotely with his phone and Luke drove in. “Wow,” i say in a tone that only i could hear. This is more a mansion than house, it was so beautiful i couldn’t help but amazed by the well trimmed and maintained lawn. The low grass looked so g-green. Luke drove into the outside garage which was at the side of the house and parked his car after which we alighted from it.If I wasn’t jealous of the lawn, the house certainly got me jealous, how rich was this guy?The architect who built this house deserves accolades. The southern architecture of the building was done to perfection and the grand double stairs that led to the entrance just gave the three story building an exquisite feel.William led the way and we followed him as we climbed the staircase up to the main entrance. He unlocks his
EPILOGUE A few months later…Bailey's POV I sighed as I finally laid Arlo to sleep after all the crying. I looked at his peaceful face and couldn't help but notice how much he looked like William. After a lot of horrible suggestions from William and Shayna. We finally agreed to name him Arlo after William's grandfather, it was either that or John Cena. And I was not gonna name my son after William's favorite wrestler or after Shayna's favorite rapper.I quietly left the room in search of William. It had been a very long day and I hadn't seen much of him. Matthew had thrown us a huge party to celebrate the renewal of our marriage vows and I was tired from all the rush and excitement.I opened the door to our room to find him asleep, at least that's what I thought. I went into the bathroom to take a shower and came back to lay beside him. It wasn't even up to 5 minutes when I heard Arlo crying through the baby monitor. I groaned in utter frustration and
A few months later…Bailey's POV “Thank you for coming with me,” I said as I adjusted my seatbelt. “You don't need to thank me, according to this book, it's my duty.” He said, pointing to the pregnancy help book on his lap, William has been reading a lot of these pregnancy help books over the weeks and I personally think the author sucks. Just last week, he kept trying to convince me to go for something called a vagina steam, and don't get me started on the time he practically coerced me into making a mayonnaise face mask. How does that help the baby? William pushing a stray strand of hair to my ear brought me out of my thoughts. He shifted it back a little so that it was not too tight on my belly. He was always so cautious and passionate when it came to my belly and he had no idea how happy and secure that made me feel. “Thank you. I'm tired already, I can't wait for him to come out.” I grumbled, touching my belly. He chuckled. “I gotta admit, pregnancy suits you.” He teased me
Bailey's POVThe gates of the mansion opened up as I pressed the entry code, as I got to the big doors I saw Agatha “Oh, child.” Agatha said, running to me when she spotted me. Worry was written all over her face. I was surprised to see her seeing as William wasn't sure she would come back after he jailed Gianna. “Agatha.” I smiled at her and entered the living room. She glanced at my stomach and I noticed her eyes got watery. “Oh, Bailey.”“It's been so long aunt, how have you been?” I asked her and she hugged me. I didn't resist. I hugged her back. She must be going through quite a rough time herself, I thought.“Erm.. I'm so sorry about Gianna.” There was a moment of silence and then she spoke.“You don't have to apologize for anything, child. She made her own choices and she has to own up to the outcome, hm?” She said, holding my chin, and smiling. I forced a smile too.“I'm so glad you're back. Should I make you something? You must be so tired.”“Noo, I am not um… I won't be lo
Matthew's POV“It all started when I fell sick, some months after William turned 9. I fell into a coma during my sleep and woke up with a stroke.”I recounted and Bailey gasped in shock.“Ohh my God! I am so sorry, that must have been horrible” she replied, tears welling up in her eyes.“It was and there is no need to feel sorry for me. It happened years ago,” I replied and she nodded. I know I was a bit harsh with my words but I absolutely despised it when people felt pitied for me. I continued talking, and Bailey inched closer.“My life was shambles. Vannessa wasn't working then and I was the main provider for my family. It was also the worst timing because prior to that horrible day, I remember making plans for us to take a trip.. I wanted to make an extra effort to bond with them and have a good time, as Vanessa always complained that I spent too much time working and was almost never at home.” I took a deep breath before speaking up again.“It wasn't entirely my fault I was alway
3 MONTHS LATER…Bailey's POV“Yes Shayna, I'm just getting home. I'm about to climb the stairs.” I said, balancing the grocery bag in my other hand.“Take the elevator. Why are you using the stairs, are you trying to kill my baby?” she squealed.“Your baby?” I asked.“You know what I mean! But just take the elevator Bails,” “If you must know, I got to the elevator and saw it was under repairs. According to Richard, it broke down in the morning. Besides, using the stairs would mean exercising, it keeps the baby active.”“Okay. How was the appointment? What did the gyne say?”“Nothing negative, Ultrasound is done, baby's fine. He said we'll be able to determine the baby's sex by next week.” I said and she squeaked happily.“Okay cool but don't wait up for me today, I'll be home late. I'm going out with Scott today.” “You guys have been doing a lot of that lately, but you claim it's nothing serious.” I mocked. “Yes, because it's nothing serious. Get your mind out of the gutters, Baile
Bailey's POV“What.. What's this, William? Divorce papers? W..why?” I asked, my voice trembling and breaking as I stared at William who types away on his phone. “Don't ask me why. Just sign the damn papers.” He replied, his eyes still fixed on his phone. He didn't bother to meet my eyes. “But this..this means..”“I know exactly what this means, Bailey. I breached the contract, so I'm gonna pay you. Henry would handle that aspect. Now, please, sign the goddamn papers.” He said, finally putting the stupid phone away. I don't know if it was the pregnancy hormones kicking in, but I hate that stupid phone.“I wasn't talking about the money, I-”“Bailey I really don't have time to waste. Sign these.” My leg started growing weak. I sniffed. I had been trying very hard to stop myself from crying but my voice was giving me off. I had to sniff to push the emotions in. “B.. But what about your grandfather's will? Your inheritance? How are you going to get..”I said, my voice breaking. “I don
Bailey’s P.O.V“William what…where have you been? No, don't answer that. I have never been so glad to see you. Did yo.. did you hear what Ethan said about gian-“Yes, I heard everything.” he replied with a sad look on his face. He looked tired and uninterested with what I had to say. I slowly observed his appearance and the sound of something dripping caught my attention. That was when I noticed the massive trail of blood around William, I gasped when I saw his bloody knuckles.“W.. William, what happened to you? Why… let me go get the first aid box,” I stammered as words failed me. “Just stay here, I'll be ba–”“Don’t bother, I can take care of myself,” he cut me off and turned around heading towards the kitchen door. “Wait, where are you going? I called out to him, “You can't leave me here. What about Ethan? W… what are we gonna do about him?” I whispered that last part out.“Nothing, I’m going upstairs to take a shower and as for Ethan, leave him. The cops will be here any minute
Bailey’s POVBang! A loud crash jolted me up from my sleep, I rubbed my eyes groggily to try to make sense of my surroundings when I heard another crash, it sounded like it was coming from downstairs. I reached for my phone to check the time and saw it was the dead of the night. I couldn't help but wonder where William was and who could be causing such a commotion.“What's going on,” I mumbled in a sleep state as I rushed downstairs, the kitchen seemed to be the source of the noise. The kitchen was in a mess, broken plates, broken silverware, everything was in a mess and Ethan was in the middle of it all, he was standing there in a disheveled state, his hair was a mess and there were dark circles under his eyes it looked like he hasn't slept for days. I was still taking in his features when he threw an empty wine bottle on the floor causing an ear shrieking noise.“Ethan,” I called out my voice trembling, “What…what are you doing,” I asked, “what are you doing here so late at night?”
BAILEYThe past week has been so weird, everyone's attention has just been weirdly fixed on me, especially William. I noticed that he's becoming more caring and always following me for doctor appointments whenever he has the time. It's nice of him to do so and I would never complain of such but it does seem a little fishy. I had always thought that he wouldn't want to even like the idea of having a baby, especially since Gigi is in the picture but he's different. And not once did he even opt for things like abortion or divorce. He's being so mature about it, I had expected earlier on for things to go much worse than this.I heard a knock on my door and it was like I was talking about the devil. I looked up to see Williams holding a coconut oil in his hands. I smiled admiring his peaceful nature. “Hey you,” he walked over to my side, sitting close to me on the bed.“Hi, how have you been?”“Good, just bought this for you,” he brought out the oil. I was about to collect it but he immed
