It was the end of the year and my friends had business to attend to.

In Alice's case, there was the Caribbean, enjoying a doctor who took her to take him on the most pleasant end-of-year vacation of her sad life. He was a single doctor, who belonged to a well-to-do family, and who had become a regular client of Alice's, whom she herself had to keep away. However, she liked the man to serve her in a way that others did not, even though it bored her. Dr. Koch was a nice guy, a client who stepped out of the norm of arrogant damn people who just wanted more than attention. It was problematic in more ways than one, yet it was still there.
