Chapter 36: A New Friend

Kathleen’s P.O.V

I quickly turned around to find a woman with long blonde hair and green eyes eavesdropping on our conversation.

She looked stunning, with her angular facial structure and her soft cheekbones and natural blonde locks framing her face as she smiled angelically at me and Hayley. She wore a simple black dress that clung to her curves, accentuating her natural beauty. Her skin was simply flawless, with a light golden hue to it. Her hair was perfect, styled in a pony tail, and gelled at the right place. Her makeup was minimal, but complementary. Allowing her features to shine through. She seemed like a character from a movie. And somehow, it felt like I had met her before…which was simply impossible.

But as much as I appreciated her input on our conversation…I didn’t exactly know her, so a stranger to suddenly be close to Hayley caused alarm bells to go off in my head…especially when I saw her slowly approaching Hayley and bending down to whisper in

I couldn't stop thinking about Kathleen and Hayley, as I saw neither before leaving the house since I had left so early. So I needed to be sure that they were both okay and safe.As I read the message that had interrupted me during the meeting however, a deep frown played on my brows. An interesting sum of money had been withdrawn from my credit card, the one I gave to Gerald in case he needed to buy something urgent while I was away. I stared hard at the screen, wondering what he could’ve bought that would be worth five hundred dollars. For a moment, I was tempted to call Gerald and ask. Even though five hundred dollars wasn’t a big sum compared to how

Chapter 38: Sudden Turn of EventsKathleen’s P.O.VHayley and I got home by five thirty and headed for the games room immediately.Chef Koko, who had been setting the dining table when we walked in, came to check what had happened. He walked over to the games room behind us, probably wondering what all the boxes were about as Gerald helped carry them for us."What are you both up to? I haven't seen you two the whole day." He looked at us curiously, smiling briefly at Hayley. This evening, he seemed to be in a better mood and from the way he was smiling and asking me questions, I guess I could say that the cold war between us was over. In all honesty, I think the only reason why he had been so tight lipped that day was because Hayley had asked me to cook for her, and maybe somehow, it had been like an indirect insult to him, who had been cooking in the Dalton mansion for almost five years.Hayley and Gerald were already busy with the wrappers and taking care of all the stuff we had bou

I did try to tell you that he didn't seem to be in a good mood today." Gerald tried to make up for what just happened, but it took me a while to get out of my trance. But as I started coming out of my trance, my mind started becoming clearer, seeing things that I hadn't been able to see before.I had been an utter fool…to even think that our boss-employee status had changed in the slightest after our kiss. In fact, I shouldn’t have initiated a kiss in the first place. I shouldn’t have gone out of my way to do things that I wasn’t being ‘paid for’. Wasn’t that what Arthur had told me earlier? If I hadn't let myself be the delusional fool…then I wouldn’t have had my feelings hurt…feelings that I shouldn’t even be having for my employer in the first place. Chapter 40: Irreplaceable Arthur’s P.O.V The room was dimly lit by the light of a single bulb. I sat on my usual position, gazing out through the window and into the distance of the darkness. Despite all I had. Wealth, influence and fame. I was lonely and with no companion. She and I had built this together, all of it. But she was not here to watch me be the successful man she always knew I was going to be. It seemed as though my wealth and success brought me nothing but loneliness. Over a decade ago, Sophia and I used to sit on this spot and look out through that window, smiling at sight of birds and butterflies that would flutter around. That window has an excellent view of my garden, and this used to be Sophia's favourite room in the entire house. On days it would be too hot to go out in the sun, she would sit here all day and enjoy the view. Everything about her was beautiful and every moment we shared was golden. I still missed the way she looked, the way she spoke, the wa

The streetlamps cast a soft glow on the snow, making it sparkle in the darkness, and distracting me temporarily from the fear in my mind. The air was crisp and clean, and the snow muffled the world around me.I hugged my coat tighter around me, wishing I had more layers of clothing on me as the temperature began to drop rapidly with the advent of the snowflakes. But as the sound of footsteps continued on the snow that had already gathered on the ground, I couldn't help the fear that creeped into my mind once again.I walked faster, almost breaking out into a sprint, but when my foot slipped slightly in the snow, I had to slow down once again, feeling my heart hammering inside my chest. The last thing I wanted to do was fall flat on my face when I didn’t even know if the person following me was just a pa

Hi guys, In my last chapter, I mentioned that I would be taking a break for a couple days to refresh my mind and feel a bit better so I could get back to writing...well, not I'm even more unwell. I don't know if it's just a common cold or flu or the rona, but I've been feeling really unwell since this morning...courtsy of me attending a wedding without a mask on the 1st of February. And even though I thought I could push through, I think it's about to get worse from tomorrow onwards, so I'm deciding to take a break as I won't be able to make my MAB. I'm sorry for the sudden announcement and I really thought that I could pull through but with the constant headaches and the sudden tiredness, it's getting more and more difficult to work right now. And I know for a fact that it'll get worse from tomorrow onwards, because of my asthma. So it's better to take this month off and come back next month so I can finish off the whole story. Once again, really sorry for not being able to update

Chapter 42: Never too Old for Piggy-Back Rides Kathleen’s P.O.V I wrapped my arms around Arthur, and couldn't help the tears that streamed down my face in gratitude. My whole body shook, and my mind replayed all that had just happened. It was a close call…and I never wanted to go through something like this ever again! I thought that would be the end of me…that I wouldn’t be getting out alive. The chances of a miracle happening had been very slim. But Arthur had appeared out of nowhere, becoming my miracle in this desperate situation. I was extremely grateful to him, and the anger that had overwhelmed me moments ago, completely vanished into thin air now that I was in his arms. In fact, the anger from before was now replaced with regret. What I had done was simply childish and mindless. Thinking about it now, even Hayley wouldn't have done that. Like an idiot, I had simply staggered out of Arthur's mansion and into the street, with no other plans on what to do next, or where to go.

Chapter 43: Truth Behind the HateArthur’s P.O.VI couldn’t help the blush that crept up my cheeks when I saw her long, skinny legs being revealed in front of my eyes…that was until I saw the trickle of blood go down her leg, marring the porcelain white skin with a streak of red…and I felt horror crawl up my spine as I quickly turned away from her."It's not that bad, it shouldn't take much time to heal." She said to me, probably worried about my reaction, but I was still too anxious to look. "It's okay if you don't want to see it. I'll apply first aid on it and it should be okay in a couple of days."I sighed, knowing that she had misunderstood the situation. It was my fault that she had left the mansion this late at night in the first place…and now she was injured because of me as well. It seems like all I did was hurt her, intentionally or not.

But this year, everything changed when I met Arthur and his little girl, Hayley.Today, Hayley turned to me with a big smile as we all gathered around the Christmas tree after dinner to exchange gifts. Arthur nodded, still looking puzzled. "Well, while I was there, I bumped into this stunning woman. She was tall, elegant, the kind of person you can't miss. It was Korina, the supermodel."Arthur's eyes widened. "Korina? What was she doing at Target?""That's what I wondered too," I said with a small laugh. "She was looking for a tree just like me. Chapter 75: Eve of ChangeArthur’s P.O.V I stood at the edge of the party on Christmas Eve, the music thumping through the floor and the chatter of people swirling around me. The office had transformed into a wonderful Christmas wonderland with all the necessary decors and even a gigantic Christmas tree to go along with the theme. However, it wasn’t just an ordinary Christmas party that was usually held by our company for the employees every year. This party was different.I glanced at Savannah, who was smiling tightly as she talked with some of the guests. Neither of us wanted to be here, announcing our engagement in front of everyone. It wasn't our idea. Our parents had planned this without our knowledge, springing it on us like an unwanted surprise. As I watched Savannah, my mind drifted back to the conversation I had with my mother earlier in the day.
