ARTEMIS POV

It took me almost a while to find where Aidan was. Daymon didn’t even tell me where to find him. Eventually, I wandered to the gardens and met him there waiting... probably.

“Hi,” I said and he turned. How could someone look so hot and cruel at the same time? The afternoon breeze blew his dark hair, making him look more... handsome.

“So here’s what I wanted to tell you before we meet my parents,” he started, going straight to the point and I shot him a glare.

“Can’t you reply with ‘Hello’?” I retorted and his eyes darkened. I watched the light go out of them replaced by cold dangerous anger.

“Watch how you talk to me,” he sneered. But I didn’t care. I wasn’t scared of anyone or anything, not even the icy chills of his voice.

“And you don’t treat me like a piece of shit too,” I replied sharply. Aidan growled, he grabbed me and shoved me to a barn wall.

“You don’t understand. You have to get this or I’ll lose all I have worked for to my brother,” he seethed and I shrugged nonchalantly.

“I don’t care,” I said and he stared at me. Then his eyes wandered to my lips. Suddenly, I was aware of how pressed he was against me. I could feel every inch of him and I meant every inch. I caught him staring at my lips again and mine parted instinctively but he pushed himself away.

“You have to understand. You are impersonating my old girlfriend, you two look so much alike so I want you to pretend like her as long as you can.” He said and I shook my head, trying hard not to laugh.

“So I have to drop my life and play pretend just to please you and your parents?” I asked and he nodded.

“Yes,” he answered. I shook my head and gave him my most business-like stare.

“What is it in for me?” I asked.

“A million every month and just whatever you want,” he said and my lips curved into a smile.

“I am in, just tell me what to do.”

When we got back to the house and settled down at the dining I had already showered and dressed up. Aidan had sort of given me lessons 101 on how to be like his girlfriend and it wasn’t hard. Funny enough the way he described

her just seemed familiar, like I had met someone like that and had a vague knowledge on how to act like her.

Aidan’s dad's beady eyes watched me carefully like he was calculating something. It felt uncomfortable with him watching me but I steeled my nerves and gave them both a smile.

“Welcome Hera,” he said and I paused. Hera? I once caught my father mentioning the name to someone and he told me that it was the name he wanted to give to his next child just like how he named me Artemis.

I flashed a smile at him and leaned over and kissed his cheek just like Aidan had instructed.

“It’s an honor, Don Carlo. Aidan here has made me very happy beyond words I can’t wait to be part of this family.” I said and Don Carlo smiled. Aidan’s mother was grinning proudly and it felt overwhelming. It has to take all willpower not to run outside.

“Let’s dig in dears or the food will run cold,” Aidan’s mother said and I stared at Aidan, who gave me a fake smile in return. The rest of the dinner seemed awkward to me. Don Carlo asked me questions that Aidan had prepared me for so it was sort of easy to answer.

Don Carlo scraped his chair back folded his arms and glared at Aidan.

“So when are you gonna get married?” He asked and Aidan's green eyes widened. He turned to me. I smiled like a robot and kicked his foot under the table.

“Soon father. We want to, honestly. We just don’t think now is the time” he said and Don Carlo raised a brow.

“What are you waiting for, Amigo? I know you two must have had countless sex and I want grandchildren in my lap before I die. Don’t give me bullshit Aidan,” He said and I blushed.

Countless Sex? That’s not me sir

Aidan's green eyes had gotten colder and I wondered why he hated the idea of being married so much.

“With time father,” he stood and kicked his chair back. “Umm Hera and I have something to talk about,” he grabbed my hand and pulled me up. Don Carlo grinned.

“Talk about giving me grandkids. Go easy on her boy” he said and burst into laughter at his joke. Aidan scowled and dragged me away. I struggled to keep up with his long strides with him pulling me along.

“Hey!” I protested. “You're hurting me “ I cried but he didn’t stop walking. “Aidan!” I yelled and he stopped. His eyes eyes were like thunder.

“Calm down. It’s just a joke, no need to act like a spoilt girl,” I said. Aidan sneered and slammed me into a wall.

“Don’t call me that,” he growled and my eyes widened. He looked menacing and as if he wanted so badly to kill me.

“Fine fine. I am sorry,” he said and the hands pressed against my waist loosened. He turned away and fished into his pocket, probably for his cigar.

He brought it out and sighed when he couldn’t find a cigar in his pocket. I handed him the tiger-designed lighter I stole from his room earlier and he stared at him. I shrugged.

“What? It looked nice” I insisted and he shook his head and lit the cigar. “Thief,” he said and I smiled.

“Jerk!” I shot back. He lifted his head and smiled—-like a wolf.

It wasn’t what I bargained for and being in front of stubborn paparazzi was beginning to tell on me. Every click of the camera gave me paranoia.Aidan had told me not to worry that it would still stop but I was getting wary. I was a small-town girl and wasn’t used to all this glamor and paparazzi. It wasn’t funny at all. The other part of this deal that made me uncomfortable was having to sleep on the same bed with Aidan. It wasn’t so before, I had my room but his father had insisted on it.I peeled my eyes open now watching Aidan sleeping. Even with my resentment I couldn’t help but admire how perfect he looked. In his sleep, I couldn’t find the cynical circles around his eyes. He looked young and at peace, and his hair. I had always wondered how they were so black, like midnight. They cascaded his face and I rea

ARTEMIS POVI was lost, stage five lost. I had no clue of anything. The large office with the tainted glass that showed an impressive view of the city suddenly felt like a cage. I was seated beside Aidan. Daymon stood behind us, I could tell he had a gun because the face-off going right here was scary and I didn’t even have a clue why Aidan brought me.“Mr Creek. I have come up with a proposal. One I hope you like,” he said and Aidan cocked his head to the side, making his dark hair fall and giving him those Greek rogue looks.“I don’t always like your proposals, Hernandez. Let’s see what’s on the plate,” He said and Hernandez's gaze rested on me.“Is that your wife?” He asked. Aidan didn’t look one bit bothered. He lounged in his chair and shrugged. “Not yet. We fuck a lot. Quite a lot, she should be pregnant by now. Don Carlo needs a grand heir,” he said and I blushed furiously. How was he able to say that without choking? Now that he mentioned it, silly images filled my head and

It was like I had been wanting it. But I hadn’t been wanting this, had I? I couldn’t recall. What changed?I had wrapped my legs around his waist and he had slammed me into a wall and I could feel his erection throbbing between my legs but he had stopped and asked if we could go.I was embarrassed after that but I didn’t regret kissing him. I wanted to kiss him again. His lips were intoxicating, I could still taste the cigar on them.I ran a hand down my leg as I stared at the mirror and imagined it was Aidan running a hand on my thigh.“Miss?” Someone said and I jumped. I covered my legs and turned. It was Daymon. “I was knocking and you didn’t responsibly I

ARTEMIS POVThe man in front of me looked so much like Aidan that it unnerved me. I smiled at him and extended a hand.“Artemis,” I said simply and he smiled. His green eyes were not as dark as Aidan’s but somewhat rougher.“Artemis, I like that. What goddess is she of again?” He asked and I stopped. Aidan had known that but he didn’t... maybe I should stop comparing the two brothers in my head.I smiled at him instead.“She’s the good of the moon, hunt, and wild animals,” I explained and his eyes lit up. “Yeah. I remembered that well. You know I never paid attention to Greek myth class,” he said and I chuckled. There was something off about him but I liked him anyway. He wasn’t as cynical as Aidan and knew when to crack a joke.Stop comparing Artemis.“So Artemis, why are you here?” He asked and I shrugged.“I came with your brother, Aidan I mean,” she said and Kane smiled.“Ohh I see...” he paused. “Do you like him?” he asked, catching me off guard. “I...I...I don’t”“Well I don’t,

He brought a lady and throughout the night, I heard her moans and screams.Aidan didn’t even talk to me, take me anywhere, or ask if anything was up. He just walked past and minded his business.I was trying to act cool but it was hard—when the person you had fallen in love with was avoiding you like trash. His father had been happier, I was sure he didn’t notice his son wasn’t sleeping in the same room with his supposed wife.Aidan came out of the room immediately I stepped into the hall. Our eyes met and his hardened. I sighed. I wanted to apologize but my stubbornness won’t let me. Why should I even apologize?Aidan started to walk past and I did a cheery smile. “Good morning,” I said and he breezed past without a word. Sometimes I wondered if he was mute, if he hadn’t spoken the first time we met I would have said he was dumb.I gave him a scalding look, but he didn’t even blink. He just kept those ice-cold blue eyes on me and it gave me chills.“Stop staring at me!” I yelled in frustration and he blinked but kept staring. I sighed and got up from the bed to stare down the window.“What did you guys do...” I turned and smacked into a rock-hard chest. I looked up to see Daymon standing close.“Why are you behind me?” I asked and Daymon closed the window shut. He grabbed me roughly and flung me on the bed.I stared at him in anger and sat up, did he think I was going to jump out the window? I wasn’t that stupid and I didn’t want to die. “What’s wrong with you I am not jumping out from a five-story mansion. I am not stupid,” I said.“You are,” came his voice so unexpected and deep that I nearly screamed.“Really?

ARTEMIS POVThe next few days were the worst. I and Aidan avoided each other, no greetings, no talks, no banter. Daymon on the other hand was unusually soft and didn’t rough handle me. He had even made coffee the morning I fell sick. Aidan for some reason had been there too, but I told him that I didn’t want to see him. Of course, he had ignored me and asked a maid to see me. “Here have this,” the maid said, handing me a tonic and I peered at the liquid in the bottle.“I don’t want this, Esther,” I said and Esther shook her head. I didn’t blame her, I was as stubborn as a mule.“It’s for your health ma’am,” she said and I made a face.“It’s bitter,” I said and Esther laughed. She caught herself and made a sheepish face.“Sorry,” she apologized and I smiled.“That’s okay,” I said and drank the tonic and retched. I hated medicines, and I always hoped to avoid getting sick. The door opened and Aidan walked in, with one single glance Esther scurried out of the room.“You didn’t have to s

Aidan POVThe next few days after Kane's threat began to unroll in a whirlpool of events -- within each minute the quiet strain between Artemis and I. We had decided on attending the charity gala, together, for the display of unity and defiance against the haunting shadows of Hera and Kane. I stood in front of the mirror, while adjusting my tie, pondering upon what I may have done, or not done of late, to have the weight of expectation hanging upon me. The gala would be where the most influential people would congregate. If ever there was a time for Hera to strike, it would be here."Are you ready?" Artemis called from the other room. She sounded almost haughty with a mixture of excitement and nerves. "Almost," I replied, forcing a smile. I had to be his strength. It was his entry into, a very new and dangerous world-and I had to make sure that it felt like a support.I was silent for a moment when she came out. Artemis POVThe night air was cool under my feet as I stepped outside the garden, and everything was cast under a silvery glow by the moon. I could not shake the unnerving feeling pressing at my heart since dinner. Aidan's father and his expectations were hovering like a dark cloud above us, and I felt like a puppet in their great play. There was some magnetism in Aidan that drew me toward him, something I could not quite put a finger on. I found Aidan leaning back against a marble pillar, the phone still clutching in his hand. The air was thick with tension as my heart fluttered at the thought of going up to him. Did he feel it too? "Aidan?" I softly called, stepping closer. His head rose, and those piercing green eyes locked with mine. For a moment, everything ceased to exist outside this sphere that encapsulated both of us in limbo and yearning."Artemis," he said, his voice low and sultry, making me shiver. "What are you doing out here?""I needed some air," I swallowed, hoping

Aidan POVThe night hung heavily as we drove back to my family's estate, enshrouded in tension. The showdown with Kane had jolted us, and I could feel the pall of uncertainty over Artemis. I glanced at her: her jaw was set in a determined line, though fear, I knew, lurked beneath the surface. "You okay?" I asked after I parked the car, breaking the silence. "Just trying to process everything," she answered, her voice steady, but her eyes were full of worry. "What do you think Kane meant? That we were in over our heads?""Don't know," I said, raking my fingers through my hair. "But we cannot allow him to scare us. We are stronger together, and we need to focus on Hera."As we stepped inside, it was like suffocation; the grand foyer resounded with the silence of empty echoes. I felt my father's wishes bearing down on me as his wildest expectations presented themselves. I had gone against him, and I was wise enough to know that my father would not bear it lightly.''Let's go talk to hi

Artemis POVThe next few days rolled into a blur of work calls, meetings, and strategizing: Aidan and I finally reached out to our closest friends, determined to spend anxiety-ridden hours seeking out enough people to build a network of support able to help us resist Hera's power. With every discussion, one more layer of the web unfolded before us, and, with the feeling of growing tension as we neared the time of confrontation, I could feel the strands beginning to coil tighter. One evening we had gathered in my apartment. The air buzzed with anticipation, and Aidan, Emily, and Ryan comprising the rest sat serious in the living room discussing what would be the next move with me."I know it's a risky affair," Aidan said in a very firm tone. "But we've got to confront Hera directly. If we let her decide the narrative, we'll never free ourselves from her dictation."Emily nodded with her brow knitted in thoughts.
