Author's Pov

The men were settled around bottles of cognac when Artemis entered to announce that dinner was ready. Not for all—they knew. It was for Don Carlos and Aiden and her. the guards would figure out themselves though they wished to be part of the meal.

“Indeed,” Don Carlos rose to his feet. Aiden joined him and together, they followed Artemis into the building, but Artemis led them out through the backyard door to the backyard garden where she fixed a makeshift dinning and laid out the meal she made.

“What the heck is this?” Don Carlos posed.

Aiden raised his brows. He could have warned Artemis to be super careful with recipe she would decide to make because his father is not an easy-going fella. He was the type who would take detail of everything and grunt at whatever he detests.

“It’s a makeshift—”

“Yes, I love it.” Don Carlos did not let Aiden defend Artemis.

He took the first seat and gestured at Aiden and Artemis to join him. the two lovers looked each other in the face

Aiden's POV I snatched up my phone as soon as Artemis left the room and turned it on. It took a split of seconds to boot and soon, it displayed the screen with the notifications on the message icon.I tapped into it, but before I could read what was sent, my phone buzzed. The number was an unsaved one but I picked up hoping it was Hera. But it was not Hera. It was Marlon.“Sire—” his voice announced his identity. “Sorry, I had to call with a different number. I broke my phone in action. We were attacked.”My heart skipped a beat. Attacked?Who on earth is so discreet they could read my gestures? The move was meant to be smooth, unnoticed, but I knew it had gone public when my father talked of what he knew I would do. Or, maybe the enemy knew just what I will do, and I foolishly played into his hands.“Did you lose anyone?” I asked.“No, sire.” Said Merlon. “They merely aimed for the back seat. Maybe they thought you were in the convoy.”My brows narrowed at his utterance. Who else wh

Aiden's POV The first light of the morning broke through the gap in-between the curtains and rested on rested on my face. I rubbed my eyes and reached out for Artemis, but my hands caught just the pillow. It was then that I realized I had not been awake all night.I shrugged and turned over to meet the empty space with the pillow that had long lost her warmth. I sighed. She must have been such an early bird to have left the bed before me.I crept out of bed and yawned while I looked into the day through the gap between the curtains. The estate was calm, and the garden’s seemed to have new visitors: birds and insects. I just hope hornets are not part of the visitors.I searched my pockets for my phone, and just then, I realized I left it downstairs last night before I carried Artemis to bed. “Good lord,” I sighed and walked out of the room. The house was calm, but the but the aroma of something delicious had filled it to the brim.Artemis was definitely making something delicious in

Artemis's PovSalty: that’s the best way to describe the taste of Aiden’s tadpoles in my mouth. I swallowed them after I picked every drop of his spill on the table but he didn’t stay to see me gulp them.He surely knew I wouldn’t spill his cum into the sink after I picked them with my tongue, but I wanted him to see me swallow every drop of it.I fixed my cloth and returned to the pot on the stove. The chicken soup was ready to be served. The bread in the oven was long done and I had turned off the oven before I went for the soup earlier.I turned off the stove and scooped the soup into a large plate, but just then, Aiden’s voice rippled into the kitchen. He was in an argument with someone in his phone.I shrugged and continued with the scoop till there was nothing left in the pot. I then took the pot to the sink and washed it clean before I made for the bread in the oven.***The dining was set by the hall’s massive window. Author's PovTheir ride was smooth as Aiden had devised a different route for the trip to escape any supposed ambush at the popular routes they could have used on a good day. Artemis’ PovEverything seized to exist for a moment. Silence stole the noise that had swallowed the room earlier and the hall seemed to melt into oblivion. It seemed it had not been recorded anything time in history that the massive door of the Creeks’ Hall was busted open amidst meeting. At this point, I could see the men with their cups raised were merely startled and expectant of whom it was that had dared to interrupt their meeting with such rascal attitude. But there was nothing to see as the door remained open and without trace of anyone.“Maybe, it’s the wind,” Aiden’s father brought the hall back to life with a mischievous smile on his face. But someone snapped from the distance and cleared his throat.“It’s definitely not the wind, sire,” Benny announced on his feet. We all turned to him, and like he liked the attention he’d dragged to himself, he tugged at his suit and pointed towards the door with a proud smile on his face. “It’s another son of the Creeks.”Everyone turne

Aiden’s PovI looked Artemis in the eyes. she was anxious—anxious to leave the hall and have her peace in a secluded room that is void of the sea of eyes settled on us. I could tell she’s most irritated by Kane’s presence, but the big bad thing is we can’t decline my father’s order.I took my hand off her waist, and with a reassuring smile, I took her hand and led her into the center of the hall. The hall formed a circle around us and watched us as we danced. I did my best to guide Artemis’ steps in the dance. She’s not fond of such classic dance as we ought to do, to entertain father and his old friends who wished to have us entertain the hall the way they did in their own days.I didn’t loot for the smile on their faces while we danced, I was focused on Artemis’ face. She seemed not to believe she’s the one in the center of the hall, our bodies stretched out in a dance that looked easy but required energy.“Come on, call in the ladies!” father ordered and the internal exit door popp

Author’s PovThe day broke gracefully with the two lovers cuddled over each other in the massive bed of the chamber. Aiden’s eyes slowly popped open. He took a long breath and yawned with his left hand placed over his lips. Artemis on the other hand clung tightly to his chest, but Aiden slowly freed himself of her arms and rolled out of bed. the curtains in the room were big and thick enough to keep the son out for good and the grandfather clock in the room was at a distant corner.Aiden made to the window and pulled at the curtain but it was heavier than the regular ones he’s had to pull in other places he’d visited so far.He returned to the bedside and picked the remote on the bed drawer.“Good morning, darling.” Artemis greeted sleepily, her voice almost stuck withing her throat. She wriggled over and smiled a week smile at Aiden who answered her greetings with a grin and a nod. “Come back to bed—”Aiden chuckled and pressed the remote. Aidan POVThe next few days after Kane's threat began to unroll in a whirlpool of events -- within each minute the quiet strain between Artemis and I. We had decided on attending the charity gala, together, for the display of unity and defiance against the haunting shadows of Hera and Kane. I stood in front of the mirror, while adjusting my tie, pondering upon what I may have done, or not done of late, to have the weight of expectation hanging upon me. The gala would be where the most influential people would congregate. If ever there was a time for Hera to strike, it would be here."Are you ready?" Artemis called from the other room. She sounded almost haughty with a mixture of excitement and nerves. "Almost," I replied, forcing a smile. I had to be his strength. It was his entry into, a very new and dangerous world-and I had to make sure that it felt like a support.I was silent for a moment when she came out. She was wearing this lacey red gown that molded her body all the right

As I took the turn, he stood toe to-toe with various men, their faces illustrating how morally intense and confrontational the situation was. "Get lost," Aidan growled, barely above a whisper. "Aidan, you can’t just turn your back on this," replied one of the men, sharp-edged. He was the tallest, wearing a dark suit that announced authority. • A Mistress For Aiden Creek    Chapter 156: The Revelation

Artemis POVThe night air was cool under my feet as I stepped outside the garden, and everything was cast under a silvery glow by the moon. I could not shake the unnerving feeling pressing at my heart since dinner. Aidan's father and his expectations were hovering like a dark cloud above us, and I felt like a puppet in their great play. There was some magnetism in Aidan that drew me toward him, something I could not quite put a finger on. I found Aidan leaning back against a marble pillar, the phone still clutching in his hand. The air was thick with tension as my heart fluttered at the thought of going up to him. Did he feel it too? "Aidan?" I softly called, stepping closer. His head rose, and those piercing green eyes locked with mine. For a moment, everything ceased to exist outside this sphere that encapsulated both of us in limbo and yearning."Artemis," he said, his voice low and sultry, making me shiver. "What are you doing out here?""I needed some air," I swallowed, hoping

  • A Mistress For Aiden Creek    Chapter 155: Shadows

Aidan POVThe night hung heavily as we drove back to my family's estate, enshrouded in tension. The showdown with Kane had jolted us, and I could feel the pall of uncertainty over Artemis. I glanced at her: her jaw was set in a determined line, though fear, I knew, lurked beneath the surface. "You okay?" I asked after I parked the car, breaking the silence. "Just trying to process everything," she answered, her voice steady, but her eyes were full of worry. "What do you think Kane meant? That we were in over our heads?""Don't know," I said, raking my fingers through my hair. "But we cannot allow him to scare us. We are stronger together, and we need to focus on Hera."As we stepped inside, it was like suffocation; the grand foyer resounded with the silence of empty echoes. I felt my father's wishes bearing down on me as his wildest expectations presented themselves. I had gone against him, and I was wise enough to know that my father would not bear it lightly.''Let's go talk to hi

Artemis POVThe next few days rolled into a blur of work calls, meetings, and strategizing: Aidan and I finally reached out to our closest friends, determined to spend anxiety-ridden hours seeking out enough people to build a network of support able to help us resist Hera's power. With every discussion, one more layer of the web unfolded before us, and, with the feeling of growing tension as we neared the time of confrontation, I could feel the strands beginning to coil tighter. One evening we had gathered in my apartment. The air buzzed with anticipation, and Aidan, Emily, and Ryan comprising the rest sat serious in the living room discussing what would be the next move with me."I know it's a risky affair," Aidan said in a very firm tone. "But we've got to confront Hera directly. If we let her decide the narrative, we'll never free ourselves from her dictation."Emily nodded with her brow knitted in thoughts. "But what if she tries to retaliate? She has connections in places that ca

Aidan asked, coming closer and lowering his voice."I am fine," I said while forcing a smile, "just trying to grapple with all of this."With his expression raining, he answered. "I know it's quite some taking in, but remember, we have each other."As the gala went on, I tried focusing on the talks we were having, but my mind would attach itself to the topic of threat on us, as Kane's echoed himself in me. Somehow, it all felt like we were walking on a tightrope, one misstep away from disaster."Let's get some air," Aidan said, finding my hand with his.I nodded, relieved to get a moment away from the crowd.
