I became so excited when I saw a car come in my direction. But he zoomed past me, speeding like a blind bat out of you know what! I know that person saw me trying to flag them down, and they just drove by like I didn't exist! But, Lord! I'm going to be out here in this pitch darkness all night. My tired arms hopelessly dropped down by my side as my throat tightened, that lump developed, and water filled the creases of my eyes.
"Don't cry, Taesha. Someone else with a heart was going to come again."
I turned, trying to pull my feet, which felt like bricks, up out of the snow and dirt to get back into my car, where I felt safer. That's when the exact vehicle I saw only moments ago slowed down and parked. A big grin came across my face. I was happy they had a change of heart. But why are they parking way down there? The car was several feet away from my car. Shouldn't they come closer to see if they could assist me? My battery might need to be jumped. But then again, as I peered closer, something was off. The car door remained open for a few seconds, but no one got out. Then finally, I could see someone exiting the car slowly. Instead of the person getting out coming down here to assist me, they leaned against the hood of their vehicle with their blinding headlights on. I could hear the bass booming from the car speakers from a distance.
It was so eerie for me! I felt fear grip my heart! So I quickly turned away from the headlights, trying my hardest to get back in the car. My wet slushy boots felt like a ton of bricks as I struggled to walk to my vehicle. I was so out of breath while trying to open my car door.
I heard a male's voice call out before I could get in the car.
"Is everything OK?!"
I turned my head in the direction of the voice. But unfortunately, I couldn't see who was speaking because the headlights obscured my vision. So I put my hands above my eyes, trying to block the light. Instead, I see a tall silhouette with broad shoulders, a slender frame, and a perfect posture standing in the middle of the road. The headlights made it appear as if he was glowing, or at least his eyes appeared glowing.
My eyes stretched wide, trying to focus on the shadowy figure in the middle of the road. But instead, the person wiggled his fingers before inserting them into a pair of gloves. My heart shook; oh no! I just knew I was about to meet my death! But then, I could see the male figure proceed to walk toward me.
His appearance was menacing and frightening from a distance! I quickly tried to get in my car and shut and lock the doors! But once inside my car with the light shining on my hood. I gasped! I saw for the first time how badly damaged my new car was. The front end of my hood was smashed in.
"Oh, no! My car!" I yelled out in anguish.
~~~~~~
The man hears my piercing scream! He immediately paused, not quite sure what was going on—now treading carefully, wanting to help but unsure if he should come any closer. He couldn't reasonably determine what was happening to me or my reason for screaming so loudly.
So he stops walking and calls out to me again. "Are you OK? I'm not going to hurt you. I was only going to try and assist you?!
I became silent, not moving a muscle when I heard him talking. I was too afraid to give a response.
I'm in my car freaking out over the damage and this strange man with all-white eyes! I couldn't take my eyes off the front end of my once pristine cherry bomb or the strange tall thin man.
I whispered. "Look at my car! Oh no, my brand new car!!!
"Are you OK?" The man calls out to me again, proceeding to stroll up cautiously to my car.
I jumped, not realizing he had gotten so close to the hood of my car. I gave my full attention to him as I saw this strangely dressed guy approaching me, wearing clothing that looked like a costume. His frame blocks the headlights of his car. But I could see his face. His large eyes had a strange tint. I had never seen eyes that looked like that before.
I didn't want him to come any closer. I was thankful, afraid, and happy he stopped, but...To get him to stop where he was, I quickly said.
"I'm OK. My car is hurt more than me. "
He nods and says, "Good, you're not hurt. But, unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to drive your car away from here tonight."
Dexter Pov
I knew once the sound of her voice confirmed that she was female. So I knew I should probably offer to give the lady a ride. But I can smell the alcoholic beverages from way over here. So now I understand why she smashed into a tree! She must be intoxicated!
"Miss, do you have a cell phone? I have one if you would like to call someone."
But in good conscience, I couldn't leave a female stranded on the side of a dark road, drunk or not. So I thought of offering her my cell phone, so she could call someone to pick her up. It's the most gentlemanly thing to do in this situation.
"There's no service out here! At least my phone doesn't have service."
I looked at her with a slightly surprised expression at hearing that. But then, I looked at my phone, and she was right.
"What the? I guess this is useless." I exclaimed, shoving my phone into my pocket.
I walked closer to the passenger side, keeping my distance from the female. I saw the damage to the little car and looked over it for a few minutes. The smell of wine was even more pungent. It was so potent. I had never smelled a wine with such a strong aroma. Not only was the scent of it streaming out of the car heavily. It made my eyes begin to water, so I backed away.
"I guess you wouldn't know if there is a tow company around here anywhere?" The girl asks, distracting me. From the sound of her voice, it seemed like she was about to cry.
I suddenly began to blink. My eyes blinked several times, feeling woozy. Something was going on in my head and eyes, but I answered.
"No, I'm not familiar with this area. I had to take this detour because the other roads had formed ice. They closed the main highway."
I cleared my throat and rubbed my eyes. When I reopened them, flashes of light and color appeared. I shook my head. I knew the girl must have thought something was weird about me.
"Well, would you like a ride somewhere?" I asked, trying to carry on as usual, but this wasn't an ordinary experience.
The young lady stared at me for a few seconds, slowly backing away as I continued to rub my eyes, blinking and amazed by the light and flashes of color that kept appearing. Then, finally, I opened and then closed them again. When I reopened my eyes a third time, I saw a quick glimpse of her face but in color!
Did I see color for the first time in my life?
I squeezed my eyes shut again, shaking my head to prevent the water from leaking from my eyes. When I opened them, I looked around, and everything was the usual dark gray I would see day or night. But when I looked at her, I saw her brown skin color and almond-shaped whiskey-colored eyes; she had full lips with rosy lipstick on them! I blurted out, astonished.
"What is happening to me? My eyes! What's going on with my eyes? I can see you!" I said, staring at her, astonished that I could see her face crystal clear! The color of her clothing and even her muddy blue boots! I began to laugh, thrilled to death that I could see! But when I looked at her face again, I could tell I had scared her; the girl thought I was making fun of her or thought I was insane.
"Look! Thanks for the help but my friends are coming. I don't talk to strangers. I'll be alright; you can go! They will be here any minute! Soon, real soon!" The young lady says, getting back into her car.
"No, wait! I promise I'm not a crazy person! You'll be safe with me. I promise." I said, trying to calm her down and pretend everything was OK. Yes, I was OK! Better than OK!
"My GPS said I had another 18 minutes or so before we'd be able to get back on the main highway."
The young lady looked at me hesitantly, totally untrusting.
On this cold February night, I encountered the strangest thing that ever happened to me. A stranger, a girl I can see in full color! The encounter changed my very existence! What has happened? What kind of powers does she have to cure my eyesight? What was it about her? I want to know; I got to know!
Dexter POVLarge dark eyes stared at me through the glass, untrusting and unsure. With her window cracked, I could smell the wine, and the subtle scent of a sensual perfume wafted from the interior. Seeing her eyes that were an odd shade reflecting hints of gold. What made them appear so attractive was that they were set in a brown face with hues ranging from sienna to alizarin.For once, I found a girl that wasn't like any other, maybe because I could see her so clearly. And unknowingly, she was helpful to me in the most significant way. Usually, when I deal with females, it is only to fulfill one need, and that's sexual. When I go to places like the 'Niche,' I know they are seeking out the same thing I'm seeking. One night to quench that aching need that only is calmed by a night of intimacy. Before tonight I was in shadowy darkness, with every female appearing the same. I am usually the visual, the beautiful peacock in a room, and they all flock around me. My looks, fame, expensiv
Taesha's Perspective.I watched him cautiously as he got out of his car and began walking toward me. "Lord, here we go." I was cold from being in the car for so long, and the smell of the hibiscus wine had started to soak into my clothes and skin pores. Then, finally, I was ready to get out of my car and go to where it was warm and didn't smell like wine. Unfortunately, it was the stranger's car that offered all of what I needed.Wiggling my toes became impossible. I worried that I might be experiencing the early stages of hypothermia. If only he had removed his gloves or wasn't wearing them. That way, I could have seen if he had a ring on his finger. A wedding ban on his finger would lessen my fear of him if he had a family. But there was no way to see a wedding ring on his finger. Looking down at the dark, barren road ahead, I knew no one was coming to pick me up. It was only wishful thinking. Cam would have no idea how to find me with all the road closings. It feels like I've been
Taesha's POVThe ride was quiet. Even the music he listens to sounds strange as it plays in the background. Whoever the artist was, they were singing in a foreign tongue. I kept silent. I had zero interest in him or his music. I busied myself, trying desperately to get my phone to power up. So I could call my friend Cameron and let her know what has happened to me. But don't think I wasn't keeping my eyes discreetly on the stranger with the peculiar eyes for a minute. 'Oooh! It can't be happening this way! My head drops in despair. Thinking about leaving my brand-new wrecked car behind was heartbreaking. I've been driving since I was sixteen years old and have never gotten into a wreck until now! I spent a lifetime avoiding dangerous situations like the one I'm in tonight! I glance down, and I'm barefoot like a fool! I don't have any shoes on my feet! Is that why he made me take my shoes off so I couldn't run away? If that is the case, he is sadly mistaken because if he attempts to
His Perspective.I have never been in the company of a female who is unphased by my presence. Almost all females are usually intrigued by my appearance or dress style. I'm so used to hearing. "Ah, Dexter baby, I love how you talk and sing, and your music is awesome." I've even had some girls tell me I smell and look good enough to eat. And my scent was irresistible. So I'm perplexed by this girl's lack of interest in me. Her reaction, or lack thereof, is something I've never had happened to me before. I sighed and tightened my grip on the steering wheel to keep frustration from building or making it obvious. I glanced over at her, confounded by the lack of attention toward me. Being in the entertainment industry, I've been in the company of pleather of women most of my life, though not every kind of female. Despite that, I thought I was pretty knowledgeable of girls, regardless of race, creed, and color. But I'm sitting here so perplexed. Why isn't this easier? "What kind of fema
It took Taesha a minute for her to register what he had said. "We?" "Oh, there is no "we" and no us. So soon as Dexter gets back in here, I need to set him straight. So there won't be any confusion." The minute Dexter gets back into the car, Taesha tells him. "I hope you don't think I need you to stay out here with me. I'll be fine. You can go home." "I can go home? I can't head home this time of night. Have you forgotten already about all the road closures? The road that leads to my home is closed. That's how I ended up meeting you. I'm in a predicament like you. Sorry, it looks like we are in this together. You can't go where you were trying to go, and neither can I. The snow is falling too heavy to be on the road trying to make a long-distance trip. It wouldn't be safe or wise for me or anyone to drive out." Taesha sighs. "So, what hotels did the mechanic suggest?" He mentions that a woman named Ms. Henry rents out cabins to overnight travelers about a mile up the mountain.
Dexter had gone completely still as his fingers felt a sizzle from touching her neck. He stared directly at her, liking what he saw. We both stared at one another for a long heated moment with many questions whirling around in our minds. At least I knew I had questions that I positively wanted and needed answers to.Ms. Henry's blue eyes peers at them with a hint of a smile as she clears her throat, watching the powerful attraction right before her eyes between these two. Taesha rolled her eyes at Dexter, giving her attention to Ms. Henry's obvious hint that she was still in the room. "So, was there really an accident?" Ms. Henry asked, looking at the two of them. But before Taesha could respond, she heard him say. Dexter had gone completely still as his fingers felt a sizzle from touching her neck. He stared directly at her, liking what he saw. We both stared at one another for a long heated moment with many questions. "Yes! When I found her on the side of the road, she had hit a
"Good night Ms. Henry and thanks for everything."They both said, waving as they hurried back to the cabin. The snow outside was falling heavier. But once inside, they were now alone under the same roof. Even though Taesha felt exhausted, her nerves wouldn't let her relax. The uneasiness of being alone with a man; on top of that, he was a stranger kept going through her mind. "Is this counted as a one-night stand?' Taesha begins to reflect on her many conversations with her best friend, Cameron. Taesha remembers telling her how she could never have a one-night stand. Well, this is the closes she'll ever come to having one.She watched Dexter remove his long black coat from his slender frame, hanging it on the coat rack. Taesha asks herself, 'what are you doing?' It wasn't the first time she's had to check herself when it came to him tonight. Taesha feels the need to fill the awkward silence. Taesha walked around the cabin, exploring and talking out loud. "It feels so good in here," sh
The following day Dexter begins to stir, feeling uncomfortable. He sits up but with his eyes still closed. He rubs his neck, which had become stiff from lying on the couch. When his eyes finally opened, he got the shock of his life. The shadowy darkness had returned. Everywhere he looked in the cabin was ash-gray. He stood rubbing his eyes, blinking, and then reopening them. But the shadowy darkness remained the same. Finally, he rushed over to the bathroom to look in the mirror. He splashed water on his face several times, rubbing it into his eyes as if to wash the ash gray away! Everything was still that awful ash-gray color! "Why?" Never before has his lack of vision ever bothered him. But for the first time, it bothered him greatly! Dexter had never hated his eye condition in all these twenty-eight years until now. The heat of anger rushed to his head, and immediately, water welled in his eyes; looking in the mirror, he couldn't stop the waterfall of tears from streaming from t
Dexter thought about how it would pain him if he lost his Gamma. His family wasn't perfect, but he loved them. To lose his grandmother would be a significant loss in his life too. He held Taesha in his arms as they lay in bed and cried together. Then, they took a flight to Taesha's home for the funeral, and he served as one of the pallbearers for funeral. Unfortunately, they all had come together on such a sad occasion, but Dexter met even more of Taesha's family. She showed him pictures of her Chinese father, and Dexter could see the resemblance. He loved his mother-in-law. Taesha's Chinese father couldn't appreciate what he had in this woman, Taesha's dear mother. Dexter thought maybe Taesha’s father let the idea that she was black and he was Asian and how the outside world constantly tries to look down on interracial couples. Too bad her parents could find that kind of love they had for one another.~~~~Several weeks back at home and into their routine. Taesha realized her period
"Taesha! Taesha!" "What, boy? What's wrong with you?" She asked, turning to look at him, concerned by his panicked voice as he entered the kitchen, huffing, and puffing."Baby, are you sick?" Dexter asked breathlessly."No, why would you think that? Wait! So you do know what you did?" She looked at him suspiciously."I don't know what I did. Did I do something, Tae? You just freaked me out! Whew! It's good you're not sick. So what is it that I supposedly did to you without knowing I did it?" Dexter asked with a sigh of relief. Taesha swallowed hard. "Don't be sarcastic! You got me pregnant!... I think...!" "Pregnant?" Dexter chuckled. "No way. Did I get you pregnant?” He asked excitedly. “No, did we get each other pregnant?" He pointed at her continuing. "Sorry, I didn't get that memo." Dexter laughed."Don't laugh. Dexter, did you knot me up on purpose? Look at those eyes. Yes, you did! I've been trying not to think that you would do something like that, but you did! Ooh!" She
The honeymoon phase was filled with steamy nights at their home in the mountains. It appeared every two weeks, Dexter's sight would diminish and return to total darkness. But waking up blind wasn't as frightful now because he knew the capacity of one glass of Taesha’s homemade wine could do for his sight. Dexter, of course, was grateful for this breakthrough. Any breakthrough that could give him the sight he's always longed for, and he wanted Taesha to seriously consider sharing it with the masses of color-blind and legally blind people. But she was afraid of all the responsibility. Taesha was content, knowing it helped him; she didn’t want fame or notoriety. Even though she did want to help people, she had to figure out how to do it without drawing too much attention to herself. Taesha couldn't believe how one horrible night stranded on the side of the road turned into this dreamland life. But, then, she was a married woman. To a wealthy, handsome man name Lee Dexter, who were many
Careless or Careful?"I don't know why but It's in the music, books you read, and some movies. I decided if I found the one, and I did, I would treat you with the utmost love and dignity. Out in a world, it's full of lust, Taesha. It's all about pure selfishness. My music is successful because I write what women need and want to hear. But women are very complex creatures, emotional and all. I've seen countless women willing to do a lot to get a man, win his love, money, and sometimes his body. Observing, being alone, I've learned much from females.""You mean you used the females for business purposes?""That's not fair. I've never taken advantage of anyone.""What am I? Some experiment for you to examine and use?" She stepped away. "No, never! I'm trying to say that, for the first time, you were the first girl I couldn't read or figure out, and you certainly have never been willing to do whatever I wanted you to do, and you were careless about my wealth. And when it comes to my body
Laying in bed, Taesha couldn't immediately dismiss her strong thoughts and urges. Instead, she felt a rush of excitement come over her, knowing how Dexter felt about her. Glancing at the clock, Taesha realized her day would start in the next two and half hours. She knew she had to get control of herself to go to sleep. When the alarm went off, to her surprise, she rose full of energy, not the least bit tired. Taesha took a hot shower, threw on her robe, and took her hair down.She was stating to herself. ' Wow! I feel so revived and alive now that I've talked to my baby.'Taesha opened her kitchen window to let in the fresh air, and listening to the birds sing added to her joy. Then, opening her closet door, she looks for something to wear.She pulled out her white linen suit. The skirt was a high waist fitted skirt that came just above the knees that had the open face gold zipper on the thigh. Next, Taesha put on her soft yellow silk tank top sheer blouse with the jacket with open g
When they had to awaken this second time during this same day, it was late afternoon. Taesha says, turning to look at one of the most handsome men on earth and his seductive smile. She mumbled to herself, "he's my husband." So many unanswered questions, but one mainly resided in a secret place in her heart.She put a big smile on her face. "So get up lazy, boy." Taesha pulls him by the arm out of bed. His hand found her waist and gently dragged her back to bed so she could lie beside him again. "Baby, we got to eat," she said, snickering."I know I got to feed my baby."It's very early in the marriage, and Taesha can see Dexter enjoys being with her, and if it wasn't love, it indeed felt like the real thing. She watching leave the bed, walking his lean muscular nude body across the room. Taesha ran approving eyes over his slim hips and muscled thighs, those powerful shoulders, "Mm...he was gloriously built," she uttered, licking her lips. Taesha couldn't remember when she was so exc
After an hour of talking, Dexter was still in complete darkness. The wine did not affect his eyes. Nevertheless, they both were heavily disappointed in the results. "I'm going to bed, Taesha," Dexter says, pulling the cover-up over his shoulders and turning his back to her in bed. Tears fell from his eyes as a mass of confused feelings entered his heart. "Baby, I'm sorry, but I never thought I had anything to do with your eyesight." "It's okay. Good night Tae." "Are you upset with me?" "No," "Then don't turn your back on me." "Taesha, I'm trying to go to sleep. Can you do the same?" "What? No! You are upset with me, and I don't like it!" "I'm not upset, but if you keep nagging me, I will be!" "Nagging you! I don't believe my ears! I'm trying to console you! I know you are disappointed that it didn't work! But don't turn your back to me as if it's my fault!" "God! won't you stop talking! I don't want to talk right now! Are your ears stopped up!" Dexter says, getting out of b
“Thanks, my love, for picking out my outfit. I can do the rest from here.”Dexter slipped on a pair of light brown skinny-leg pants with a deep royal gold thick sweater. He grabbed a lightweight gold scarf with guitar designs throughout the scarf. He brushed his hair in the direction he always did. Taesha had already sprayed his cologne on his clothes. He sat down while slipping into his shoes, grabbing his leather brown jacket and sunglasses as he left the bedroom.Once she selected his clothing, then she picked out her own. ‘So this is what it would be like with him completely blind for the rest of our lives.’ She never imagined herself being married to a man that was blind. She worried about them being an interracial couple and how others would treat them. But she never in millions of years thought she would be married to a man who couldn’t see. Taesha silently continued to pray his sight even if only what he had before with the ash gray would return. Then, she got dressed, took h
The following day, Taesha kisses her husband, stroking his handsome face while running her fingers through his dark hair. The gentle caresses of her fingers stir Dexter awake. Unfortunately, his sense of timing was off because he had stayed awake most of the night. But Dexter's heavy lids finally opened, then he closed them again, asking groggily. "Is it still nighttime, my love?" She smiles, thinking he is joking. "Baby, yesterday is officially over. I know you wish it could last on and on. But a new day has arrived. Look, Dex, the sun is shining brightly."Fear gripped his heart as he opened his eyes again, and it was pitch black! Dexter rubbed his eyes, reopening them only to be once again to be faced with darkness. Taesha sees the anguish on his handsome face. "Baby, what's wrong?" "Taesha, I can't see! I can't see anything!" "What do you mean? Are you seeing in ash gray again?" "No, I'm blind! I can't see at all!" "You have not been this way before, unable to see at all!
