Chapter Twenty-Three: Andretti's pov

Andretti's eyes fluttered open, his gaze blurry and unfocused. He's met with a bright, harsh light that makes his head throb. He tried to lift his hand to shield his eyes, but a sharp pain shoots through his stomach, making his gasp.

Dr Roberto's worried face comes into view, "Finally, you are awake!".

Andretti tried to speak, but his voice was hoarse and barely audible. He cleared his throat, wincing in pain. " Lucia....".

Dr Robert smiled, "Lucia is fine, she had been with you all night, I had to pry her away from your side so she could get some rest, she will be back soon".

Andretti nodded, he looked around, he was in his spare room, surrounded by beeping machines, a faint smell of antiseptic hung in the air.

Andretti's memories came flooding back- the shootout, the bullet wound, the feeling of his life slipping away, he tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness forces him back onto the pillow.
