Maya

It had been atleast a few hours since Kalia left. The guilt was killing me. Sitting there, wondering if she was okay. She never even mentioned where she was going, not that we deserved to know anyway after how we had treated her.

I had tried calling her phone several times, but it kept on going to voice mail.

I sat in the living room in silence, tears threatening my eyes. What had I done.

I looked over my mother who seemed like she had just lost a child.

"I knew she couldn't be trusted from the word go, I knew it." she said painfully as she sat down across from me.

"Mom, please don't.." i started, but she held her hands up, to stop me.

"Maya, don't even think about making excuses for her anymore. She betrayed us. I highly doubt that baby is Jake's either"

"Mom none of this is true, none of it." i blurted out, I couldn't take it anymore.

I had wanted a sister for the longest time, a friend I could confide in and I had finally found that in Kalia, and now she was gone.

Her face w

Kalia. The drive back to Jake's house was short. I dreaded getting there. But in order for my plan to work I still needed to go back there and pretend that we were a happily married couple, atleast since it was supposed to be our honeymoon. His house was brighter than I remember seeing it during the day. Will all the lights on, it was spectacular, really fitted him and his extravagant lifestyle. I sat in my car for a few more minutes contemplating whether I should go back in.When I finally gathered the courage to walk to the front door, no one seemed interested in me. The guards went about their business like I was nonexistent, almost like they had been instructed not to give me any mind. I opened the front door and slowly went in without turning on the lights, hoping to get to the guest room with no interactions. I almost tripped on the carpet when Jake turned on the lights. "I am so sorry I thought you were already asleep, I didn't want to wake you." I said heading straight

I had been working overtime for the money and the hours were starting to get to me. I was exhausted, but I needed the money. I turned away from the cashier’s counter closing it and slammed into a hard wall.. well, it felt like it was a hard wall, but in fact, it was a man’s solid chest. Large, powerful hands came around and gripped my upper arms to steady me.For a second it was all right. I had the apologetic, slightly flirtatious smile and appropriate words that passed for polite regret ready, I’m so sorry. But when my eyes flew past the broad shoulders up to his face my whole world tilted crazily. I felt the blooddrain away from my head and my face whiten. A part of my brain screamed, No. No. No.No fucking way. Not halfway across the world. Not after all this time.I had done a pretty good job of starting afresh, far away from my previous life, far from anyone that knew me. And for a while it had worked, or atleast I had thought so. I opened my mouth and… Closed it like some du

The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting long shadows across the park where Kaliahad arranged to meet Mark. She arrived early, her heart racing, rehearsing the words she had prepared over the past few weeks. The crisp autumn air filled her lungs, carrying with it the scents of fallen leaves and the promise of change.Kaliaglanced at her watch. He was late, as usual. A bitter smile crossed her lips. She had spent years waiting for him waiting for apologies that never came, waiting for affection that often felt like an afterthought. Today was different. She wouldn’t be waiting; she would be confronting.Jakefinally appeared, a casual air about him, as if he hadn’t just walked into the scene of a storm. He wore a navy blue jacket and jeans, his hair tousled, a look that had once made Kaliaweak in the knees. But now, she felt a fire burning inside her a mix of anger and resolve.“Ella,” he greeted, his voice smooth, yet something in it felt rehearsed.“Mark,” she replied, keeping her to

"Hey Maria," I said to the housekeeper who was busy washing utensils in the kitchen. "Has Jake called yet?" I asked her hopeful, she stopped what she was doing and looked up at me, I could see the pity in her eyes. She felt sorry for me. "He said he will be late." she finally said, our eyes met, and I tried to hold back the tears welling up. "Oooh," I said awkwardly and walked back to my room. I tried to lie on the bed, still looking at my phone, there was nothing. Jake had called the housekeeper, but he didn't leave me even one message. Maybe I deserved it. I said to myself trying to ignore the urge to break down. I looked at the time again, it was almost ten pm. I put my phone on the night stand and tried to get some sleep. • A MAFIA LOVE STORY    Chapter 103

Kalia sat in the sterile, fluorescent-lit waiting room of Saint Gregory’s Hospital, her hands clasped tightly in her lap, a mixture of anxiety and exhaustion written across her face. She had been sitting there for days, her eyes glazed over from the endless monotony of hospital life. The cold white walls of the room seemed to close in around her, mirroring the weight pressing down on her chest. Her husband, Ethan, had been in a coma for over three weeks. The doctors had given her little hope. Yet, Lena refused to give up. She couldn't—she wouldn’t.Ethan had been the love of her life since their high school years. They had married young, had children young, and lived their lives with a quiet kind of happiness that seemed impenetrable. Until that car accident. That fateful day when a distracted driver had plowed into their car, sending Ethan into a coma. He had been unrecognizable, hooked up to machines that beeped and whirred incessantly. The doctors had told her that the chances of h

I walked slowly to the cemetery with a bunch of my mom's favorite flowers. Unlike the other tombstones, my mom's was dirty broken and filled with dirt. I sat down in tears cleaning it with my hands. It was written all over words like slut, home wrecker, murderer. I tried to rub the offensive writings but nothing could come off. Then I saw it, the rosary put at the edge of the tombstone with fresh flowers. Five years ago"Really? Tim Bradford?" Naila said when she caught me staring at Tim Bradford. "I have been thinking about the people I will miss, and i don't really want to miss Tim Bradford." i say staring at him through the car's side mirror. "Chen, i love Tim but he was horrible to you in high school."I miss you so much mama! I wish you were still alive to see how well your daughter turned out. I said in tears to myself before standing up and walking away. "You could atleast get an Instagram so your high school best friend can stalk you from afar." Naila said as soon as i w

Kalia. After dinner, I went out by the pool. It was a beautiful night, the full moon out along with a sky full of stars. It was so beautiful and calming out here tonight and generally in the country. I had always wanted to raise my family in the country, away from the buzz of the city.I dipped my bare feet into the cold water, getting a certain satisfaction. I was still reeling from dinner, from that made up how we met. I had watched Jake all night, he seemed happy, he was so committed to the fake story that I wondered if he really did remember how we met. He could be a good actor because even I bought it. Which is why it was going to be difficult to read him, to trust him. My phone buzzed, and I looked at the watch on my wrist, it was past eleven almost midnight. Who would be texting me at this hour? Maybe something was wrong with my dad, that was the only reason I could think of why someone would be texting me this late. I quickly got out of the water, rushing to the table

We moved towards the gym, and i had noticed earlier a door that i had assumed led to a storage room. It didn’t. I soon came to realize.Alec opened the door, switching on the light and allowing me to enter. The instant we were inside the room, i became aware of the warmth. My wolf moaned against it and seemed to bask in the sudden flush of heat.He didn’t say anything as we moved down a long, old-fashioned flight of stairs that led to a dungeon.“You have a heated dungeon?” i asked surprised.“A long time ago I realized that with a lot of wolves who have been hurt and struggle between packs, warmth helps to soothe them. Calming them is always a challenge, but in these rooms, it helps to relax them, to draw them out. The cold only makes them more violent, and their rage is always in full force. Heated rooms are expensive but necessary. When it comes to the pack, I don’t s

He had told me who was behind the accident, thats what I had come to tell her.But this was my fight with Naima and whoever else was coming after me, I could not drag her into it, especially not when she was carrying my child. Her leaving was for the best for both of us and I needed her to leave angry at me, it was harsh but it was going to work.If Naima found out we were no longer together, she would be off the hook.
