The next day arrived as quickly as possible, and Avelina slowly blinked her eyes open. She stared at the ceiling and feeling much better compared to yesterday, a deep breath fled her nose.
"I feel really hungry," she muttered under her breath, and with all the strength she could gather, she sat up on the bed. She quickly grabbed her belly, which still hurt from the kicking she received, and groaned in pain. She unhurriedly stood to her feet and wobbled towards the door. She grabbed its handle and turned it, but a stressed expression appeared on her face as she realized that it was locked again.
"Hello!!!" she yelled, hoping someone would hear her, but no response came. "Hello!! I am hungry! I am really hungry!" She furiously slammed her hands on the door, causing Lucas, whose room was next to her, to avert his gaze from the book in his hands.
He listened again, just to be sure that he was hearing her voice, and once he confirmed that he was he stood up from the chair. He tossed the book on his bed and made his way out of his room, then ambled towards Avelina’s room and turned the door handle to open it.
"Avelina," he called out. Avelina, who was still by the door, immediately pulled the door handle.
"Lucas. I-is that you?" she inquired in a teary voice.
"Yes. Are you okay, in there?" Lucas asked in concern.
"I am really hungry," she pleaded.
It has been two days, and she hasn’t had anything, not even water. A low sigh fled Lucas' nose, and he walked away from the door. He proceeded downstairs to the kitchen and turned to the housemaid.
"Young master," the head maid, who was quite chubby with red hair, bowed slightly in respect.
"Give me the key to Avelina’s room," he said to her, and the head maid, whose name was Cherry, lifted her head to look at him.
"But m-master… your father said-"
"Does it look like I care?" Lucas questioned as his black eyes scowled at Cherry. Knowing that she shouldn’t mess with him, Cherry immediately pulled out the key from the pocket of her pants. She handed it over to him, and Lucas walked towards the fridge. He yanked it open and grabbed a bottle of water.
He made a quick sandwich and turned to look at Cherry. "Make some proper food and take it to Avelina, understand?" he ordered, and Cherry nodded. He proceeded back upstairs and strolled toward Avelina’s room. He unlocked the door and pushed it open, then moved to step inside. But at that moment, Rosalia walked out of nowhere with an angry expression on her face.
"Lucas!" she yelled his name, and Lucas turned his head to look at her.
"What is it?" he questioned.
"Are you seriously about to feed her? Father gave instructions not to!" She scowled at him.
"You want her to starve to death?" he asked.
"Well, I don't care if she does. She dared to hit me. She deserves it." She shrugged and Lucas shook his head at her. Without bothering to reply to her anymore, he proceeded to hand the food and water to Avelina, but Rosalia, who wouldn’t let that happen, furiously slapped the food away from his hands, causing it to fall to the ground.
"Roselia!" Lucas growled at her and moved to react, but just then, one of the young maids with blonde curly hair rushed up to them both.
She slightly bowed to them. "Young master, young miss, Your father requests your presence downstairs. There is an important guest." She reported, and a slight frown emerged on Lucas’s face. He glanced at Avelina, and without saying a word, he made his way downstairs, with Roselia following behind him.
They stepped down the last stair, and the instant they strolled into the living room, they halted. Their eyes fell on none other than Lucian, who was clad in a white shirt and black suit pants, seated with his legs crossed and his hair wrapped up in a neat bun as usual.
He lifted his head, immediately sensing their presence, and his green eyes looked at the two.
"Mr. Lucian." They quickly bowed to him, but Lucian, who saw them as irrelevant, ignored both of them. Leon, who was standing behind the one-man sofa that Lucian was seated on, rapidly fluttered his eyes and sealed his lips, resisting the overwhelming urge to laugh. Mr. Ferguson shook his head at them, and they quickly moved to take their seats on the long sofa he was seated on. He shifted his gaze to Lucian and folded his arms.
"So… I believe you are here with something important to say," he began.
Lucian lifted his head from his phone and arched his brow at him. "I am here based on what we tackled the last time you came to my house." His deep voice resounded through the entire living room.
"So what is your decision?" Mr. Ferguson asked.
A deep breath fled Lucian’s nose, and a half smile emerged on his face. "I have yet to make a decision, which brings me to the reason why I am here."
"What reason is that?" Mr. Ferguson lifted his brow at him.
"Well, before I make my decision, I'd like to see your daughter first," Lucian stated.
Lucas and Roselia, who still had no idea that the supposed man whom Avelina had slept with was Lucian, glanced around with confused expressions on their faces.
"Who? Me?" Roselia interrupted, and both Mr. Ferguson and Lucian glanced at her.
"Not you." Mr. Ferguson shook his head at her and returned his attention to Lucian.
"What do you mean by "you want to see her first?" he inquired.
"Well, I want to see her, so I can make my decision whether I want to marry her or not," Lucian replied, and a bewildered glint flickered in both Lucas and Roselia’s eyes.
Marry her? they both wondered.
"I am not sure if you can see her—"
"Ferguson, if I do not see her down here in less than twenty minutes, I will leave, and your stupid reputation can flush down the toilet." He scowled before Mr. Ferguson could finish his words.
Mr. Ferguson gaped at him and his hands secretly balled into tight fists. "Alright. You will see her then."
Mr. Ferguson muttered something under hisbreath and then turned to Cherry. He ordered her to get Avelina from upstairs, and Cherry nodded. She made her way upstairs toward Avelina’s room, and onceshe got there, she pushed the door open. "MissAvelina," she called. Avelina, who stood by the mirror staring at herself, turned her head to look at her. "Whatis it?" she questioned. "Yourfather requests your presence downstairs. Please come with me," shereplied with an indifferent expression on her face. Avelina followed behindher, and before they could reach the elevator, they came face to face with LadyFlora, who had an arrogant expression as always. "Takethe stairs. I don't want her filthy body near me," she immediatelyordered, and Cherry bit her lower lip. She slowly turned around to look atAvelina. "Please, let’s take the stairs," she said to her, but Avelina who was obviouslyunwilling looked at Lady Flora from head to toe with disgus
She screamed at him."What is wrong with you people? Why do you all hate me so much? I have been used all my life, and now it is to marry me off to someone I don't even know!""Yes, I made a mistake! But is it that big of a deal for you to decide to marry me off to him? Father, you know that the person I love is Ileus. I cannot marry someone I don’t love!" She yelled and turned to face Lucian."And you! You think I am just going to marry you because we slept together for one night. What do you think I am? A trophy that you can just grab from the shelf and make yours?""You think that just because you are rich, you can get whatever you want? hahaha." She laughed hysterically. "You see, that’s where you are wrong. I will never marry someone like you. I loathe people like you, and I would rather die than be with someone such as you!"She declared and turned around to storm away, but Lucian, however, grabbed her by the wrist and stopped her on her track. He stared at her, and his lips slo
Avelina, who had cried herself to sleep last night, awoke as the early morning sun hit her face through the open window. She glanced at the bright sky and recalling what day it was, she quickly sprang from the bed.She grabbed a hold of her phone and hurriedly dialed Ileus’s number.[The number you are trying to call is currently unavailable. Please leave a message.]"No! No! Please pick up Ileus." She bit her lower lip in anxiety and dialed the number over and over again, but just like she expected, he never picked up.A depressed expression emerged on her face, and she slurped down onto the sofa. She looked at the screen of the phone, and the urge to try one more time overwhelmed her.She did as her mind had told her, but as disappointing as it was, he didn’t pick even after trying a dozen times.A long, deep breath fled her nose, and sad tears slowly began to bubble in her eyes.Well, there is only one last thing she can do, and that is to send a voicemail to him."Hey…um… Ileus...
The door to the Ferguson mansion pushed open, and Lucian stepped in with Leon following behind him. They strolled towards the living room to meet a few unfamiliar faces, which he believed were family members and a middle-aged man with a few gray hairs seated with his hand clutching onto a suitcase. This man, he knew, must be the lawyer.Lucian adjusted his pristine white suit and sat down on the one-man sofa.He looked at Mr. Ferguson, who was staring at him with his pitch-black eyes."Where is she?" He asked.Mr. Ferguson glanced at the stairs and let out a soft breath. "She will be down in a minute." He replied. As the clock ticked and time flew by, Mr. Ferguson’s face began to darken as he was not sure what was keeping Avelina from coming down.‘This girl! She won't disgrace me today too, will she?' A grimace became apparent on his face as he thought. He took deep breaths and moved to order someone to bring her down, but just then, Lucian's nose twitched, and his eyes quickly shi
The lawyer announced, and a deep frown immediately ensued on Avelina’s face. She gazed at him with a deadly glint in her pupils, signaling to him that she shouldn’t even dare.Lucian, who understood the intention behind such a look, smirked at her and moved closer to her.He grabbed her slender hand and pulled her in, then gently held her back and stared into her gray eyes."Don’t you dare!" Avelina lip-synced, warning him not to even try it, but Lucian shrugged and kissed her gently the next moment. However, it wasn't exactly a real kiss.Per her warning, he had simply just brushed his lips against hers and stepped back away from her.Avalina flickered her eyes and looked at him in disbelief. To be honest, she didn't expect him to actually not try it when she told him not to even try it... but he did."I now pronounce you, Mr. and Mrs. Zvetch." The lawyer declared Avelina’s heart dropped to her stomach, and she shut her eyes.So this was real? She had really gotten married to someone
He chuckled, and Ileus arched his brow in confusion."What do you mean?" He asked."It’s really funny that you chose to disgrace a woman on her wedding day. Pretty petty, if I must say so." Lucian shrugged with his hands stuffed into the pocket of his pants."Disgrace?" Ileus scoffed. "It’s not a disgrace if I am telling the truth. I am simply trying to expose someone who does not deserve to be happy. She has hurt way too many people, and you will be next. Am trying to show you the kind of woman you just married, but you call it a disgrace." He half smiled, causing Lucian to shake his head in revulsion."It looks like you still love her." He suddenly spoke with a grin on his face."What?" A displeased look immediately occurred on Ileus’s face."Am I lying? If you say I am lying, then I really can’t understand why a grown man like you would want to disgrace a woman on her wedding day in front of her husband." Lucian cackled as he spoke."Though I believe you still love her, which is und
"Hmm... I don’t understand the point of your question." Lucian shrugged with a neutral glint in his eyes.Avelina gazed at him, and the anger she felt just by looking at him had her balling her hands into tight fists."I want my own room. Sharing the same room with you... that won’t happen." She declared and turned around to walk out of the room, but Lucian, however, grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back."Don’t make things difficult for the both of us." He said this to her, and his lips curled up into a smile. "We are married, and what do married people do? They sleep in the same room, not in separate rooms. That is just not good." He shook his head at her.A deep frown emerged on Avelina’s face, and anger flickered in his eyes. "I can choose whether to do that or not, and as you can see, I do not have the desire to share the same room with you!" She scoffed. Lucian chuckled softly and walked towards her.He tilted his head to one side and smiled at her. "You’re a tough woman. I
"You ungrateful child!–""You call it ungrateful?" Lucian began to laugh. "You are really funny, father. You and I both know that I am seated above you today because I am better and stronger than you will ever be. I am seated on that throne today because of my strength! and not because of you.""If you have the chance, you would want nothing more than my downfall. You have always hated me, and that hate will never change, that I never doubt, so I expect nothing from you." He took deep breaths, and with a cold look in his eyes, he turned around to leave."One more thing—" He halted and looked at his father with the edges of his eyes. "–See my wife. You better keep your filthy hands off her. I know what’s going on in your mind right now, so if you want to maintain your old head on your body, keep away from her. She is the last possession of mine that you would want to touch." He half smiled and walked away, leaving his father’s eyes twitching furiously in anger. He arrived outside the bu
