Ezekiel’s POV

It had been a few months since Kailey became fully integrated into my pack. At first, I didn’t think much of it. She was strong, a fighter, someone I could count on. But then something strange started happening. Or rather, something stopped happening.

For as long as I could remember, every full moon, like clockwork, I’d lose control. The curse forced me into my wolf form, making me nothing more than a beast. No thoughts, no control. Just pure instinct. It was something I had learned to live with.

But lately... it hadn’t happened.

For the past month, the full moon came and went, and I stayed in control. No forced shift. No blackouts. Nothing.

I didn’t understand why.

And that’s why, as the first rays of sunlight slipped through my window, I decided to find out. The priestess would have answers. She had to.

I got dressed quickly, pulling on a simple black shirt and dark pants. As I was fastening my belt, I heard a knock at my chamber door.

“Come in,” I called, tightening

Cecilia’s POV I was walking into the woods. My informant said he had news for me, and I couldn’t wait to hear what he had for me. I didn’t waste any time. I left the courthouse. At least now James has been injured, so there’s no way he can follow me around. Ever. I said this to myself even as I walked deeper into the woods to meet this guy. He was someone that worked at the priestess’s courtroom. The trees stretched tall and wide around me, their branches swaying slightly in the evening breeze. The scent of damp earth filled the air, mixed with the distant hint of pine. My boots crunched against fallen leaves, the sound almost too loud in the eerie silence. I pulled my cloak tighter around my shoulders, my heart beating a little faster than I’d like to admit. Then, I felt it.A presence. The prickling sensation of eyes on my back.I froze mid-step, my breath catching in my throat. Slowly, I turned my head, scanning the trees behind me. Shadows danced between the trunks, but there was

Kailey’s POV I sat down at the wooden table and lightly tapped my fingers on the top. My mind was restless, buzzing with thoughts I couldn’t shake.Auren. My boy. My only child.I had to make sure he was safe. I had to.I kept thinking about Ezekiel's promise that James would always be by Auren's side. That wasn't enough, though. Not while Cecilia looks on. Not with the way she carried herself now, like she ruled the pack with nothing but her look. She was scary. And if I had listened to Mage, if I had never stirred her anger, maybe things would have been different. But it was too late for regrets. The only thing that counted now was Auren’s safety. The door creaked open, and I looked up, my heart racing for a split second before I saw the familiar face.“Lydia,” I breathed, motioning her inside. “Close the door.”She did as I asked, her moves quick but quiet. She was one of the few I still trusted, one of the few who hadn’t turned their back on me when everything started falling apa

Kailey’s POV I reached across the table, gripping his hand.“You stay sharp. You listen to James and Lydia. You do not, under any circumstance, trust Cecilia. She will smile at you, she will act like she cares. But never forget what I’m telling you now. If she ever tries to get close, you walk away. If she tries to speak to you alone, you leave. Do you understand me?”His throat bobbed as he nodded.“Say it, Auren.”“I understand,” he said firmly.I released his hand, leaning back.“Good. Because if anything happens to you while I’m gone, I will burn this entire place to the ground.”He gave a small smirk, but I could see the seriousness in his eyes.“I’ll be fine, Mother.”I exhaled, forcing myself to believe it.“I hope so, Auren. I really do.”I sat there, watching Auren, my hands clenched on my lap. The candle on the table flickered, casting shadows over his face. He was fidgeting, his eyes looking everywhere but at me. I could tell he had something to say. Something he thought I

Ezekiel’s POV I was just standing at the door, even as I saw my love—Kailey—talking with our son. It gave me so much joy that I wanted to just go in and hug them both, but I restrained myself and was just hearing all they were saying, even as I smiled.Auren sat at the table, his little fists clenched, his jaw set like he was trying to be strong. Kailey sat across from him, her eyes sharp but full of something deeper—worry, love, maybe both."I need you to listen to me, Auren," she said, her voice low, serious. "You have to be careful while we’re gone. I don’t trust Cecilia, not for a second. And neither should you."Auren nodded, but I could see the hesitation in his eyes. He was just a boy, no matter how much he wanted to act tough."Say it, Auren," Kailey pressed."I understand," he said, firmer this time.Kailey let out a slow breath and leaned back in her chair. "Good. Because if anything happens to you while I’m gone, I will burn this entire place to the ground."I almost chuck

Ezekiel’s POV As I watched my son clutch the pendant, his little fingers tightening around it, I crouched lower until I was at his level. His bright eyes sparkled with pride, excitement dancing in them like flames. I could see it—the way he already felt stronger, more important. And he was.“Auren,” I said, my voice steady but firm. “Did you hear everything your mother told you earlier?”His head bobbed up and down quickly. “Yes, Father.”“Good.” I reached out, tapping a finger lightly against the pendant he held close to his chest. “This means something. This isn’t just a gift, son. This makes you an Alpha. This marks you as a leader. No one can control you now. They can only guide you.”Auren’s eyes widened just a little, the weight of my words settling on his young shoulders. “Only guide me?” he echoed, his voice small but steady.I nodded. “Yes. You’re not a puppet for anyone to move as they please. Not me. Not your mother. Not the elders. No one. You will listen, you will learn,

Ezekiel’s POV I was getting ready. Kailey had already left. She had to, because there were still things I needed to settle before I could leave.I sat in my office, my pen scratching against the parchment as I signed off the last of the festival preparations. The money budgeting had taken longer than expected, but it had to be done before the end of the day. My brows were furrowed in concentration, the candlelight flickering against the stack of documents in front of me.A knock came at the door."Alpha," James' voice was firm but cautious."Yes?" I answered without looking up, my focus still on the parchment."Some elders are here to see you."I sighed, rubbing my temple. "Tell them I’m really busy, James." I gestured at the documents in front of me. "I have to finish this up before I leave."James hesitated, and that made me look up. His expression wasn’t his usual calm. There was something else there—something that made my gut twist."They said it’s urgent."I set the pen down slo

Ezekiel’s POV As they left, the door slammed shut behind them, the sound echoing through the room. My blood was still boiling, my fists clenched so tight that my knuckles turned white. I took a deep breath, but it did nothing to calm me. My wolf was pacing inside me, restless, furious.James stepped in almost immediately, his eyes scanning my face, reading my anger like an open book. He hesitated at the door, then sighed as he walked closer."Alpha," he said, voice low but firm. "I’m sorry about what just happened. Cecilia… she’s becoming something else entirely. This is getting out of hand."I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head. "Getting out of hand? James, she’s been a problem for years. Now she’s just getting bolder because these damn elders are letting her."James ran a hand through his hair, his frustration clear. "Maybe we need to reconsider things, Ezekiel. Maybe—""Maybe what?" I snapped, turning to face him fully. "Maybe we let her get away with this? Maybe we bow our h

Ezekiel’s POV Cecilia laughed even as she sat down, crossing one leg over the other, her movements slow and deliberate. Her smirk was wide, her eyes glinting with a mix of amusement and arrogance."Since you refuse to have Kailey and her son out of my way, I’ll make sure the entire pack turns against you," she said, tilting her head slightly, her voice laced with venom. "Everything you hold dear? I will burn it to the ground."I scoffed, shaking my head as I leaned back against my desk. "Is that so?"She leaned forward, her fingers tapping against the armrest of the chair. "You don’t get it, do you, Ezekiel? I am your Luna. Not Kailey. Not anyone else. Me. And I will fight tooth and nail to make sure that stays true."I chuckled, the sound low and mocking. "I would love to see you try."Her jaw clenched for a split second before she masked it with another smirk. "You think this is funny?""Oh, I think it’s hilarious." I pushed off the desk, taking slow steps toward her. "You, sitting

I barely parried in time, the force of the blow sending vibrations up my arm. I twisted, countering with a quick strike aimed at his side, but he dodged effortlessly, stepping back just out of reach. He was fast. Too fast, I exhaled sharply, adjusting my grip. This wasn’t going to be an easy fight. We circled each other, the ground beneath us torn from previous clashes. My breathing was steady, my heart pounding in my ears. He feinted to the left, then struck from the right. I blocked, barely, his blade scraping against mine as sparks flew. Then he kicked me square in the chest, the strike was hard, I stumbled back, gasping as pain exploded in my ribs. JAMES POV. It was night time , The pack house was quiet, the kind of silence that came with a hint of unease. I sat in the lounge area, the dim lighting casting soft shadows across the wooden walls. Auren sat on the rug in front of me, cross-legged, while Lydia lounged on the couch, her head resting against the armrest. We sit out here this way, most of the time. The fire crackled in the hearth, it was the only sound breaking the quietness of the night.I watched Auren fidget with his fingers, his brows furrowed in thought. He had a lot on his mind,I could tell, We all did.Lydia sighed and stretched. “It's been a long day.”“Yeah,” I agreed. “But at least things are calm for now.”Auren looked up at me, his green eyes bright with curiosity. “James, do you think the pack is okay? I heard some of the warriors talking earlier. They sounded... worried.”I exhaled through my nose, leaning forward so my elbows rested on my knees. “There's been some tension, but nothing we can't handl

Cecilia's pov. How could he stand up to me? How could he challenge me? In front of the elders. The nerve of him. The absolute audacity.I stormed out of the pack house, my heart pounding with rage, my fists clenched so tightly my nails dug into my palms. James. That worthless James had dared to challenge me. Right before the elders. In front of everyone.I gritted my teeth as I pulled my cloak tighter around my shoulders, the night air cool against my skin. The full moon was high in the sky, casting long shadows over the forest path ahead of me.My boots crunched against the dried leaves, but I barely heard them over the furious pounding in my head.I was furious and mad, and right now, I could tear apart anyone who stood in my way.James had stood up to me, his voice steady, unshaken, he dared to step in when I was already close to my goal. I was just a step away, if the healer had proceeded with the blood test, they would have found out the Auren was not Ezekiel's so.This was beca

Kailey’s POV.How can this be?, yet again the forest had played tricks on me, I sighed, resting my back on a tree as exhaustion washed over me. Just when I thought I had found the relic, when I thought all of this was over, the forest had struck and the relic had disappeared. Now I was left with nothing. How would I cope? How was I supposed to go about this? What was I supposed to do now? Even with the coldness the mist brought, beads of seas gathered on my forehead. I wiped them off with the back of my palm, the mist in the air was everywhere , my throat was dry and it felt like I was going to pass out if I didn't get water to drink.Right now, it felt like I was losing my mind, thinking.Straight was more like a difficult task for me now. However, I knew I needed to move on, there was no reason to stick around,I still had to find the relic, I still had to save Ezekiel and return him to Auren. Ihaen idea how much time Ezekiel has left, same with Auren,I had no idea what was going

Kailey’s POV. It still baffles me how the altar disappeared into thin air, it was hard to fathom. Multiple questions flooded my ear, I was getting confused and it also felt like I was losing my mind. It was obvious that the voices I heard earlier, the voices of Auren, were just an illusion created by the forest to fool me, to deceive me and delay me from acquiring the relic on time. However, was the altar also an illusion created by the forest? Or was it something else.?While inside, I had felt a difference, a change in atmosphere and for a second I thought I had the relic already, I thought the relic was already in my hands. And then the next second the whole altar disappeared into thin air. I sighed as the thick mist curled around me, swallowing every inch of the forest in an eerie white haze. My boots sank into the damp earth as I trudged forward, my body aching from hours of searching. I was already tiring out, I could feel it in my bones, it felt like there was something

Kailey’s POV. The thick mist curled around my legs as I pushed deeper into the forest. According to the spirit, I have to get the relic to take the curse away from Ezekiel. I hated the fact that this was stopping Ezekiel and I from seeing Auren, from returning back to the pack house. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat a painful reminder of how little time I had left. Ezekiel needed me. I can't afford to allow Ezekiel to turn into a wild beast for the rest of his life. Auren needs his father, and I was not going to sit back and watch this happen to him.The mark from the forest spirit was spreading across Ezekiel's skin, dark tendrils creeping toward his heart. If I didn’t find the relic soon, I would lose him.I knew this and it fueled my zeal to find the relic. I clenched my fists and kept moving, my boots sinking into the damp earth with each step. The forest was somewhat quiet, save for the occasional rustling of leaves far ahead. I could see Shadows shifting in the

Ezekiel's pov.“To leave this place, you must have to complete a trial, a trial set by the spirit of the lost werewolf lineage, This is the only way you will be permitted to leave”I face folded into a deep frown and I could also see the shocked expression in the eyes of my comrades and also kailey. I had no idea what this was, what this spirit was, however I knew it was of no good. I hated the fact that I was in this mess with kailey.I hate to put her in this kind of a situation, one that threatens her life. In all of my years I have never witnessed anything like this, however I had heard stories from some of the older wolves mention something like this, a spirit which duels In the deep forest.Though I believed it, I still felt they were all myths, but seeing what was happening here, I was convinced that they were not just myths. The rest of my guards who were knocked down earlier had already gotten back to their position. I glanced at kailey, I reached for her hand and pulled h

JAMES’S POV“You’re coming with me,” I said.Jon nodded, falling into step beside me without a word. That was what I liked about him, he didn’t ask unnecessary questions. He just acted. He was quiet and very loyal to me, one of the best warriors I have trained. Together, we moved through the trees, walking toward the bar, as we walked, the crunch of leaves beneath our boots were the only sound between us. Of course there are many routes to take to the bar, however I had chosen this one, which was to make our movement more secure and unnoticeable. At this time of the night. The place was quiet , as most pack members were probably in their houses, carrying out one or two activities, some in the bar drinking away the stress they went through during the day. The bar sat at one corner, just a stone throw from the pack house, a small wooden structure with a crooked sign that swung gently in the wind. In no time I was already at the door of the bar, it pushed it open and at that moment
