Kailey’s POV
It's been a week since my breakup with Kyle, and it's ironic to say the whole world knows about it. I rolled my eyes as two ladies giggled past me. I knew they were laughing at me, so I secretly held up a middle finger at them. I walked into the kitchen, averting my gaze from meeting anyone's eyes since I was a low-ranked wolf and wasn't allowed to. I dropped the crate of apples in my arms to the floor, heading out. Shouts of people moving here and there as they hurried to decorate the packing halls filled the air. Laughs and giggles from men, ladies, and children made the atmosphere more lively than it would have been on Christmas. I shook my arm, my muscles aching in protest to the heavy lifting I was doing. Tonight was the final preparations for the banquet we were hosting. The alpha's son was returning from his training, and as the biggest pack, second to the king's, tonight's banquet was a huge one. Packs from all around were to come. I just hope that maybe the moon goddess will pity me. Everyone found their mates at the age of sixteen, but it was as if I was cursed. I sighed, preparing to lift the next batch, when I heard my name being called from across the hall. “Kailey!” I stiffened, the deep voice from my alpha sending chills down my back. Alpha Mark was tall, his huge form intimidating. Even in his fifties, his handsome face carried charisma that awed everyone. With his presence, the laughter died down, and all that was left was silence. “Sir!” I replied, sweat running down my temples, as he stopped in front of me. His chilly gaze rested on me. “My office. Now.” With that, he strode off with his long legs, leaving me to catch up to him. I jogged after him, hearing murmurs fill the air along with a few snickers as they wondered why I was being called. Wiping the sweat off my head with my shaky palms, I followed closely behind Alpha Mark as he led us into his office in his mansion. Once in the office, he sat on his chair, his palms interlocked under his chin, while I stood upright. His deep gaze bore into my skin, making my wolf restless. I fought the urge to shift, rubbing my palms on my pants. “I have been hearing a few things about you.” He cut to the chase, his voice with no ounce of emotion. Knowing what he was talking about, I winced internally. He was the alpha; of course, he would know. But I was tempted to ask if he knew of the things they had been doing to me. Unfortunately, his words sent a bucket of cold water. “Personally, I don't give a shit what happens to you.” He paused, letting his words sink in. “But let me remind you, Kailey. If you mess up this banquet, I'll make sure it's your last. Do well to behave, got it?” I nodded, “got it.” Thump. “Now leave my sight.” He dismissed, pressing his temples. “Just looking at you agitates my wolf.” Thump. Lowering my head, I reached for the door, feeling dread wash over me as I walked out of the office. Thump. My knees shook as my heart raced. I felt cold. Numb. Dread. Scared. Terrified, petrified. I hugged myself, my eyes stinging as my wolf whined at her leader's rejection. Lowering my head, I walked out of the mansion, heading to the woods to clear my head. With my head filled with thoughts, I failed to watch where I was going until I bumped into a person. “Sorry,” I hurriedly apologized, looking up with a blurry vision, refusing to let my tears fall. For a while, I didn't know who this person was, until they spoke. “What do we have here?” Recognizing the voice, I blinked the tears out of my eyes. “Kyle?” He sniggered, “You remember?” I turned to look at him, only to realize his friends were also around, and they were laughing too. I frowned, “Fuck off.” I made to leave, but he blocked my way with his huge body. “Where do you think you are going?” He sneered, signaling to his friends who surrounded me, blocking all exits. “Do you think I'll let you leave?” "You... what are you going to do?” I stammered, my heart racing. My eyes darted, looking for a gap in the circle they had formed, but I found none. “I heard the alpha called you.” “And?” I went back, trying to suppress my fear. “Do you regret it now? Want me to recommend you to the alpha?” This was Kyle's sore spot. He was meant to be the head warrior, but Alpha Mark didn't feel like he was fit for the position and was even considering giving the title to someone else. Furious, Kyle growled, his eyes flashing. “Do you want to die, Omega?” I whimpered, closing my eyes as he tried to force submission on me. I won't let you. “Since you have a death wish, then I'll help you.” He coldly said, his face red with rage as his submission failed to work on me. My eyes went wide as I took a step back, my heart pounding. Adrenaline pumped into my veins, fueling my need to escape. Laughs from his friends filled the air, their urging catcalls making my erratic heart beat faster than a cheetah. “Stop, please,” I begged, tears running down my face. I don't want to be raped. Kyle snickered, a sick, twisted look on his face as he finally got to me. Just as he was about to grab me, a lady's voice cut through. “What are you doing, Kyle?” Kyle frozen, his face going pale as he muttered a cuss under his breath before turning. “Macy, what are you doing here?” Folding her arms under her breast, Macy appeared unfazed. “I should be the one asking that.” Kyle gave a smile, scratching the back of his head while heading towards his mate. “I was just goofing around with my friends.” “Really?” She squinted her eyes. Her beautiful face said she didn't believe it, but Kyle talked her out of it, calling off his friends and leaving with them. Before leaving, he threw me a glare, one of his friends mouthing, “You won't escape next time.” Glued to a spot, my body shook as realization hit me. If Macy hadn't shown up, what would have happened to me? I covered my mouth as a muffled sob came out. Dear Moon Goddess, what did I do wrong? I crouched, tears pouring down my eyes, and I was glad this was a quiet area. My wolf whined as she felt my sadness too. She was as weak as I was, and in that situation, there was nothing my wolf could do. Still. I won't give Kyle the satisfaction. I brushed my tears off, heading towards the shack. Tonight was going to be a gathering from all around, meaning I could find my mate. Even if I didn't find them, giving my virginity to someone other than Kyle would be better. Picking out my best dress, I made my way to the stream to bathe since I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom. I let the cold water sink into my skin pores, temporarily washing my troubles away, and by the time I returned to the shack, it was already late. Classic music made its way to my ears, signaling the start of the occasion. Putting on the dress, I did my makeup with the little light that seeped in. Since I had no mirror to check out my appearance, I made my way to the banquet. I was putting on a gold dress, one that complimented my olive skin. The party was officially started by nine, but guests had started to arrive. I strode to the corner, avoiding the prying eyes of guests and pack members alike. They could smell the omega in me, but I didn't give a fuck anymore. What I wanted was my mate, or a possible one-night stand. I picked a champagne from the buffet table, twirling it as I watched every move the crowd made like a hawk. A few single wolves threw winks at me, but I ignored them. They looked like players. I was waiting for a reaction. From anyone. My mate had to be here. Moon goddess, please. There were about a thousand people or more in this hall. Or was I supposed to move around? But I was scared of angering the alpha or bumping into Kyle's friends. A few minutes passed, and I felt nothing change, so I decided to move to a new area. Dropping the glass on the table, I walked towards the end of the hall, which had huge entrance doors that were left open. I walked to the middle, standing awkwardly. I had never done this before. Suddenly, there was a commotion up front, which drew heads. A lady beside me gushed with her partner, “It's him! The alpha's son is back!” Immediately, the crowd grew restless as they swarmed towards the entrance. I winced, feeling a burn on my shoulder as I was roughly shoved to the side. Quietly, I moved to the other end, avoiding the mad crowd. Security was swift to take action, but that didn't faze the crowd as they continued to scream their lungs out. I covered my ears, a frown making way to my face. I shook my head, feeling my wolf going restless. She whimpered, clawing at the back of my mind. “Stop.” I let out a low growl, cradling my head as my head throbbed. What's this? Why was my wolf acting up? Just then, the noise grew louder, and I looked up. Standing in the midst of the crowd with a stoic face was the alpha's son, Ezekiel, and his beta beside him. They walked past me, but suddenly he made a glance my way, catching my gaze. His eyes flashed, and my wolf howled in my head. “Mate!”Kailey’s POVFuck, fuck, fuck, fuck! I cussed as I dashed into the bathroom, panting as I did.How could this happen? Why was the moon goddess always fucking me up? I gripped my hair, scattering the neat bun I had worked tirelessly to perfect. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. My face was red, and my makeup was smeared due to sweat and constant rubbing. What was I going to do now? My wolf whimpered as I paced anxiously. She wanted her mate, but I wish it were that easy. “Shit!” I whispered, annoyed by how much my wolf whined. “He is off limits, damn it!”That man was Ezekiel Bread.Future Alpha of the Blackwood Pack. My pack. Despite that, my wolf refused to listen. Repeatedly, she howled for her mate in my head, clawing at my mind and fighting for control—one I wouldn't give.Suddenly, the door opened, and I snapped my head to the door. I frozen, taking a step back as my heart pounded. What is he doing here? My breath grew frantic, and his powerful scent hit me. M

I turned to look, my stomach sinking when I saw who had entered.Alpha Mark stood in the doorway, his expression thunderous, his black eyes blazing with uncontained fury. His presence filled the room, oppressive and commanding, and even though I wasn’t directly in his line of sight yet, I felt the weight of his anger settle heavily on my chest.“What is the meaning of this?!” he roared, his voice cutting through the air like a blade. My heart jumped, and my wolf whimpered inside me, retreating into the back of my mind. Instinctively, I yanked the blanket up to cover myself, as if it could somehow shield me from the storm that had just blown into the room.Ezekiel didn’t budge, standing protectively in front of me like a stone wall, his eyes locked on his father.“Father,” Ezekiel said, his tone calm but laced with an edge. “You’re intruding.”“Intruding?” Mark snapped, his voice drippi
Ezekiel’s POVMy father’s words echoed in the room, the weight of them pressing down on my chest like an iron hand. For a moment, I thought I’d misheard him.“You heard me,” he said, his voice cold and unrelenting. His eyes bore into mine, daring me to challenge him. “Sever the bond. Now.”I looked over my shoulder at Kailey. Her face was pale, her eyes wide with fear, and her breathing shallow. The bond between us quivered, a fragile thread strained to its limit under the pressure of my father’s command. Her vulnerability struck me like a blow to the gut, but it only strengthened my resolve.“Father,” I said, my voice trembling as I fought to keep my anger in check, “you don’t understand what you’re asking.”“Oh, I understand perfectly,” he snapped, his words cutting through the air like a whip. “You’re the future Alpha of this pack, Ezekiel, and I won’t have you tied to an omega who will only bring us shame.”His words ignited a fire in my chest. My fists clenched at my sides, nails digg
Ezekiel’s POVI clenched my fists, forcing myself to focus as the bond began to fray. The connection between us, once so powerful, started to weaken. It felt like my chest was being torn apart, my very essence unraveling with every second that passed.Kailey collapsed onto the bed, clutching at her chest as if trying to hold onto the bond herself. Her cries were raw and broken, and they shattered what little resolve I had left. But it was too late to stop now.A searing pain shot through me as the final thread of the bond snapped. My wolf let out a mournful howl, the sound echoing in my mind as the connection between Kailey and me disappeared entirely.Kailey’s scream pierced the air, her body convulsing as the pain of the severed bond wracked through her. I rushed to her side, but the moment I reached for her, she flinched away from me, her wide, tear-filled eyes filled with a mixture of agony and betrayal.“Don’t touch me,” she choked out, her voice barely above a whisper.“Kailey...” My
Kailey’s POVI could barely stand as the guards dragged me down the hallway. My legs felt like jelly, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might burst. My breaths came in ragged gasps, each one laced with the bitterness of betrayal. Ezekiel’s face haunted my mind—his uncertainty, the anguish in his eyes as he stepped aside and let them take me.He didn’t fight for me.I had no strength to fight back as they pulled me along. I was too broken, too lost. My thoughts spiraled into a pit of despair, replaying the events that had led me here.I regretted it all. Meeting him in that restroom, letting him into my life, believing his promises—it all felt like a cruel joke now. If I had known the pain that would follow, I would have turned the other way, ignored his advances, and stayed in my quiet, uneventful life. But instead, I let him in, and now I was paying for it with everything I had.I glanced back at him one last time as they dragged me away. He didn’t follow. He didn’t call out to stop
Kailey’s POVThe darkness of the room had become my constant companion, pressing in on me from every side. It had been two weeks now—two weeks of isolation, two weeks of torment. I sat huddled in the corner, my body a shadow of what it once was. My arms were thin, frail. The skin clung to my bones, and I could see the sharp angles of my ribs whenever I glanced down. Hunger gnawed at my stomach, a relentless ache that never eased.Every day, the guards would bring a small portion of food—if it could even be called that. It looked like scraps, leftovers from someone else's meal. The taste was as awful as the sight of it, but I had no choice. I ate it, every bit, forcing it down just to survive.I had grown so weak that even the effort of chewing felt exhausting. My arms trembled whenever I moved, and my legs felt like they could give out at any moment. My reflection, if I had been able to see it, would have been unrecognizable.I shivered as the memory of a few days ago played in my mind,
Kailey’s POVA sudden splash of icy water shocked me awake. My body jerked violently, the freezing cold biting into my skin. My thin clothes clung to me, soaked and useless against the chill.“Wake up, slut!” a guard bellowed, his voice harsh and dripping with contempt.I gasped, blinking rapidly as I tried to process what was happening. The cold water dripped down my face, my hair plastered to my skin.“Get up!” he yelled again, kicking at the chains near my feet.“I—I’m awake,” I stuttered, struggling to push myself up. My body was stiff, my muscles weak from weeks of neglect.“Awake, are you?” He sneered. “Doesn’t look like it. You think this is some kind of luxury inn where you can sleep all day?”“No, I—” I started to say, but his sharp glare silenced me.“Shut up!” He barked, grabbing my arm roughly and yanking me to my feet. I stumbled, the chains around my wrists and ankles clanging loudly.“What did I do?” I whispered, my voice trembling.“You’re breathing, that’s what,” he snapped. “
Kailey’s POV"Order!" the sentinel’s voice boomed, I stood there trembling, my legs barely holding me up. The weight of the chains on my wrists and ankles was nothing compared to the crushing fear inside me. Every little movement made the chains clink softly, the sound echoing in the silence of the massive courtroom. I felt the cold bite of the metal digging into my skin, but that was nothing compared to the burning stares of the people around me.The dress I wore hung loose on my body. It was plain and worn, but it was the cleanest thing I had worn in days. It covered most of the bruises scattered across my arms and legs, but no dress could hide the fear radiating off me.Before me, sitting on a high platform, was Alpha Mark. His presence was like a storm cloud, heavy and dark. His cold, unyielding expression felt like it could slice through me, but it was his eyes that terrified me the most. Kailey’s POVHow fucking annoying it is to actually wake up to a text from Ezekiel.Meet me at the eating by 9 a.m. with Auren. Don’t be late! Who the hell does this fool think he’s talking to? I slid my phone onto the table and lay back down. I didn’t even know when I dozed off yesterday. I was so tired and scared that I just crashed, and now I wake up to this buzzing sound? So crazy. “Another crazy morning in this hell of a pack,” I mumbled, looking at the ceiling. I reached for my phone again to check the time. It was almost 8:30 a.m. I groaned, wondering whether I should even bother going to the diner. My wolf stirred, growling lowly, her way of nudging me to get moving. You should go. “Why? So he can piss me off even more?” I asked aloud. You know why. You care. I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, deep down, I still love Ezekiel so much. But what he did in the past? It’s always fresh in my mind. Every damn time I see him, I feel that pain. And it pisses me off so bad. Sometimes, I fe
Ezekiel’s POVJames’s eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t reply. “Alpha,” he said slowly. “I… I think you need to address this head-on. Call a meeting. Confront Remus and the others. Show them you’re still in control.”I scoffed. “Oh, that’ll go well,” I said lightly. “What am I supposed to say? That my house is in shambles but they should still believe me? That my son publicly insulted me, and my Luna and ex-Luna are locked in a power struggle, but I’ve got everything under control?” “You don’t have to say all that,” he answered, his tone calm. “But you do need to remind them of who you are. Of what you’ve done for this pack and the Alliance. They’ve forgotten, Ezekiel. And if you let this continue, they’ll change the story entirely.” I rubbed a hand over my face, tiredness sinking deep in my bones. He’s right, you know, my wolf said, his tone softer this time. You’ve been so focused on keeping the peace that you’ve forgotten how to lead. Maybe it’s time to tell them. And yourse
Ezekiel’s POVAs it stood right now, I was really losing it. Like, I was way too tired of everything. The feast Cecilia told me to plan? A fucking mess. Like, what the fuck? How can a fourteen-year-old boy talk back to me and Cecilia like that? Like, what the fuck?It shocked me to the highest level. You fucking caused all this for yourself.I could hear my wolf’s voice in my head, sharp and cutting, like he was enjoying my misery.“How did I?” I muttered under my breath, dragging my hands through my hair as I paced the room. You let Kailey down years ago, and you think nemesis won’t catch up with you?“You must be joking,” I growled back at him, my anger boiling over. “I have paid for my mistakes. Why the fuck is all this still happening to me?”Paid? Oh, please. You’ve barely scratched the top of what you owe, Ezekiel. And if you’re not careful, Auren is going to become something you’ll regret.“Fuck!” I snapped, striking my hand into the wall. My chest heaved as I tried to calm my

Is she your Luna or not?”He opened his mouth to respond but closed it again, his jaw tightening as he struggled to find the words. I shook my head, laughing bitterly.“That’s what I thought,” I said, my voice cold. “You can’t even make up your mind. And you want to come in here and yell at my son for speaking his truth? For standing up to that conniving bitch?”“Don’t call her that,” he growled, his voice low and dangerous.“Why not?” I challenged, crossing my arms. “That’s exactly what she is. And you know it. You just don’t want to admit it because it’s easier to keep pretending everything is fine. Well, guess what, Ezekiel? It’s not fine. It’s never been fine. And your precious Cecilia? She
Kailey’s POVI wanted to go and check on Ezekiel, but I didn’t dare. I knew right now he was really angry, so ignoring him felt like the best thing to do. Auren was in his room, and I told myself I’d go meet him instead. I guessed he was just frustrated—I know how much all this must weigh on him. As I walked down the hallway, I caught sight of Cecilia coming out of one of the rooms. She looked like she’d eaten something sour, her face all twisted and angry. Seeing her like that made a smile creep onto my face. I was so happy about what happened earlier that I couldn’t help myself. Cecilia turned, her sharp look locking onto mine. She noticed the grin on my face and stopped in her tracks, her eyes sharpening. “What’s funny?” she snapped, her voice cold and sharp. I crossed my arms, leaning slightly against the wall as I tilted my head at her. “What isn’t funny?” I said with a laugh. “You, Cecilia. You are the joke of the night. My eyes found Cecilia even as she was smiling, greeting all the guests like she hadn’t just flipped my world upside down.I wanted to grab her by the throat and squeeze until she stopped breathing. I wanted to see the panic in her eyes the way she made me panic all these years. But I couldn’t. Not here. Not now. My anger had spilled out for everyone to see, and now, I had given them all something to talk about.Ezekiel shifted beside me, his look heavy. “Kailey, take a deep breath.”I waved him off. “Don’t, Ezekiel. Don’t tell me to breathe, don’t tell me to calm down, and don’t tell me I overreacted.”“That’s not what I was going to say,” he said strongly. “I was going to ask if you’re okay.”I scoffed. “Okay? I knew he was trying to be gentle with me, but right now, I didn’t have it in me to understand
Kailey’s POVWhile the feast was still going on, a group of people walked up to where Ezekiel and I were sitting. "Greetings, Alpha," a woman from the group spoke, bowing her head slightly. The moment my eyes landed on her, my blood ran cold. My whole body stiffened. Memories—long-buried and unwanted—flooded back so fast they nearly knocked the breath out of me. This was my aunt. The woman who had raised me from childhood. The woman who should have been my guardian, my family. But when Ezekiel’s father banished me all those years ago, she turned her back on me. No letters, no words, not even a single look of sorrow. Just… nothing. And now, she had the nerve to stand here, claiming she didn’t know me? My hands clenched into fists on my lap. I wanted to spring at her, to choke her until she felt every ounce of the pain she had put me through. But this was a feast. Eyes were everywhere. I had to keep my cool. I had to swallow the storm raging inside me. But no matter how hard I tried
