Under attack

Jack's POV

My heart dropped into my stomach. “Kate, no—”

“Oh, it’s true,” Kate cut me off, her voice dripping with spite. “We’ve been sleeping together for months. The only reason I haven’t gotten pregnant before now is because I was using contraceptives. But this time, there’s no mistake. I’m carrying his child.”

I saw the light in Tamara’s eyes dim, the betrayal sinking in. She looked at me, crushed, her lips trembling. “Jack… is this true?”

I couldn’t deny it. “Yes, I had an affair with Kate. But it’s over, Tamara. I ended it because I realized I love you. I’ve changed. I wasn’t going to betray you.”

Tamara’s face softened, as if she wanted to believe me, but the hurt was still there. “Jack… how can I trust you?”

I opened my mouth to answer, but before I could, a warrior burst into the room, his face pale with urgency. “Alpha! The warriors… they’ve returned, but they’re badly wounded.”

Tamara frowned, confused. “Returned from where?”
