Kayla’s POV

I barely made it outside before I crashed right into someone.

“Oof—” I stumbled back, almost falling again, when a sharp hand caught my arm.

“Watch where you’re going, idiot,” a familiar icy voice snapped.

I barely had time to brace myself before I looked up into the cold, disapproving eyes of Candice.

"Oh, this morning just keeps getting better and better." AI thought sarcastically.

Just what I needed after humiliating myself in front of Adrian.

Candice released my arm like it was filthy, crossing her arms over her chest as she narrowed her gaze at me. She refused to move and I realized that she had something to say to me.

I sighed, already exhausted by whatever drama she was about to throw my way. “What do you want, Candice?”

She scoffed, flipping her silky blonde hair over her shoulder. “I wanted to talk to you alone.”

I raised a brow. “And what? Ask me about my well being? or congratulate me on getting engaged to Adrian?”

Her expression darkened. “Don’t be delusional,

Kayla’s POV After my infuriating confrontation with Candice, I needed to calm down. And nothing helped clear my mind better than helping Ingrid sort out the records at the packs store. As I stepped inside, the familiar scent of parchment, ink, and old wood greeted me. Ingrid was behind the counter, scribbling something in a ledger. She looked up as soon as I walked in, and a slow, mischievous smile spread across her face.“Well, well, well,” she drawled. “Look who survived her first night with the Alpha.”I sighed, already starting to question my decision to come here. “I’m not in the mood, Ingrid.”She ignored me, closing the ledger with a soft thump. “So?” She leaned on the counter, eyes twinkling. “How was it?”I rolled my eyes and moved past her toward the back of the store, where the financial records were stacked. “Nothing happened.”“Liar.”I groaned. “Nothing. Happened.”She gasped dramatically. “You mean to tell me you spent the entire night alone in his bed, and you didn’t

Kayla’s POV I barely had time to process what was happening before a strong, unyielding arm blocked Leo’s attack. The force of the impact echoed through the shop, making Ingrid gasp beside me. Leo stumbled back, his wrist locked in a firm grip. But it wasn’t Adrian who had come to my rescue. It was Hector. He stood between us, his expression calm—but there was an unmistakable edge of danger in his eyes. He gripped Leo’s wrist so tightly that the nobleman’s face twisted in pain. “You must be getting bold, Leo,” Hector said, his voice smooth but laced with warning. “Trying to raise a hand against the Alpha's Fiancee in broad daylight?” Leo winced and tried to yank his arm free, but Hector’s grip didn’t budge. “She’s overstepping,” Leo hissed. “Digging into pack finances like she has the right—” “The right?” Hector chuckled darkly, finally releasing him. “She’s engaged to Adrian. That gives her more right than you’ll ever have.” He stepped forward, forcing Leo to back away. “Yo

Kayla’s POV I stood there for a long time after Hector left, my heart pounding in my chest. “Because I’ve fallen for you.” His words played over and over in my mind, refusing to fade. Hector—Adrian’s stepbrother, the same villain I thought had tried to banish me away—had just confessed his feelings for meWhat was happening? Was this some type of trap? I let out a shaky breath, rubbing my temples. This wasn’t good. Not at all. I didn’t want any problems between Adrian and me. More than that, I didn’t want problems between Adrian and Hector Because of me. Their relationship was already complicated enough without me in the middle of it. The best thing to do now was avoid Hector. Yes. That was the only solution. I just had to keep my distance, pretend that conversation never happened, and focus on what actually mattered: the missing funds and helping Alpha Adrian. I turned back to the stack of storage records on the desk and forced myself to concentrate. The missing funds we

Kayla’s POV Adrian stormed into the room with a fury that made the walls feel smaller. Behind him, several of his men followed—Connor and Logan at the front, their sharp eyes scanning the scene. His gaze locked onto me first. Then it dropped to Hector, who was still holding me. “What the hell is going on here?” he growled, his voice dangerously low. Before I could say a word, Adrian strode forward and pulled me out of Hector’s arms. His grip was firm but careful, his hands brushing over my arms as if checking for injuries. “Hector, what the fuck did you do to her?” Adrian’s voice was ice. "I swear to the goddess, if you've hurt a single hair on her body--." His body tensed in front of me, like a wall between Hector and me. I quickly shook my head, stepping between them before things escalated. “Wait! wait no! Hector didn't hurt me, He just saved me.” Adrian’s brows furrowed. His eyes scanned me again, as if only now registering what I had said. “Saved you?” His voice softened

Adrian’s POV“Is there something wrong with your wolf?” I watched as Kayla’s face turned pink, her hands fidgeting slightly at her sides. She was flustered. That alone confirmed my suspicions. Something truly was wrong with her wolf. “Kayla,” I said gently, watching the way her shoulders tensed. “Talk to me.” She quickly shook her head. “I—I don’t know what you mean.” I sighed. “You know exactly what I mean.” Her eyes darted away. “I don’t.” I tilted my head, studying her carefully. “Logan studied your fight scene, You fought using weapons instead of your claws,” I pointed out. Kayla stiffened. “You didn’t heal as fast as you should have.” She swallowed hard. “And your scent…” My eyes darkened. “It’s not just different. It’s… incomplete.” Kayla sucked in a sharp breath. I stepped closer, lowering my voice. “Kayla, I need you to be honest with me. Is there something wrong with your wolf?” Her lips parted, but no sound came out. Adrian's pov Kayla was finally relaxing around me. Finally trusting me. Thank the goddess! That moment in our room—**her leaning into my touch, the way she didn’t want me to leave—**it felt like a wonderful breakthrough.I wanted her to feel safe with me. I wanted to be the one she leaned on.But then… I remembered something else. I remembered this evening with Hector. I remembered how she leaned in his arms earlier that night. And my blood boiled.I clenched my jaw, trying to push the image away. She had looked so vulnerable. And he was the one who had been there to hold her. Not me.I didn’t like that at all.In fact, the more I thought about it, the more I realized something I hadn't let myself dwell on before. And that was that I didn’t want Kayla around any other man.I didn’t want her leaning on anyone but me.And just like that—it hit me. I wanted Kayla as my woman. Not just as my responsibility. Not just as my pack member. I wanted her romantically, sexually and, wholly as mi

Adrian’s POV The moment I stepped into my room, I felt my body relax. It had been a long night—filled with fights, interrogations, and threats—but now, I was finally back where I wanted to be. With her. Kayla was already in bed, curled up under the covers. The dim light from the bedside lamp cast a soft glow on her face, making her look even more delicate. At first, I thought she was asleep. But then, her eyes fluttered open. "You're back," she murmured, her voice laced with exhaustion. A slow warmth spread through me. She had been waiting for me. I sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "You should be sleeping," I said softly. She blinked sleepily. "I wanted to make sure you came back okay." Something in my chest tightened. She cared. Even after everything she went through this night, after all the danger, after all the problems she had endured—she wasn't thinking about herself. She wanted to make sure I was okay. I brush

Kayla’s POV A soft warmth surrounded me, and for the first time in a long while, I felt truly safe and wanted. It took me a moment to register why. it was because I was in Adrian’s arms. His strong, steady breathing tickled the back of my neck, and his body heat wrapped around me like a protective cocoon. His arm was draped over my waist, holding me against him as if he had no intention of letting go. I should have been shy about this—should have been flustered about being this close to him. But I wasn’t. Somewhere between last night’s terrifying attack and the way he had held me afterward—something had changed between us. His touch no longer made me nervous. It made me calm. It made me feel home. I blinked up at the ceiling, my mind drifting back to the way he had touched my face last night, the way his thumb had brushed my cheek so gently. "You’re worth it," he had said. Those words had shaken me. I had spent so long being treated like I was disposable. Unwanted. A bur

Kayla's POV I hadn’t realized how empty my heart would feel until the silence settled in.Days had passed—or maybe just hours—I couldn’t tell anymore. Time didn’t move the same without Adrian. Every second felt heavier, like it dragged its feet just to remind me that I was far away from him.I sat curled up on the cold cot in the far corner of the cave, arms wrapped around my knees, heart aching in a way I didn’t think was possible. I hadn’t spoken much since Hector and Ingrid brought me here. The girls were kind, but I was distant. Lost.I missed him.Goddess, I missed him.His scent. His voice. The way his arms wrapped around me like I was something precious. The way he said my name like it was his favorite word.Sleep didn’t come easily, but when it did, I dreamed of him. Always him. Adrian's POV The torture chamber reeked of Xavier's blood, rust, and secrets. Xavier sat in the middle of it, chained to the chair like he had no care in the world. But his bloodied nose from where I punched him multiple times told a different story. His head was tilted back lazily against the wall to stop the blood flow.He had one leg bouncing, and that same smug smile plastered across his face like he wasn’t moments away from being torn apart again. “I’d ask if you’re comfortable,” I muttered, my voice low and venom-laced, “but I honestly don’t give a damn.” Xavier’s eyes flicked toward me, amusement dancing in them. “Adrian,” he said with mock warmth. “So tense. You really should relax. It’s not good for the heart. Or the woman you're sleeping with.” I nearly lost it right then. His casual mention of Kayla lit a fuse inside me, one I was desperately trying to smother before i personally drove out to burn down his entire pack house. “I’ll ask one more time,” I growled, step

My heart clenches at the memory, and panic floods my veins.I jolt upright, my breaths shallow as I take in my surroundings. The room is dimly lit, the walls made of rough stone. A few small lanterns cast flickering shadows across the space, illuminating the frightened faces of young women who stand huddled together near the far end of the room. Their eyes are wide as they stare at me, like they’ve been expecting me.“Where am I?” My voice comes out hoarse, my throat raw from screaming.A rustling sound to my right makes me turn. Adrian’s POV Kayla was trembling in my arms, her fingers gripping my shirt like she was afraid I’d disappear. I tightened my hold on her, pressing my lips against her temple, trying to ground her. "It’s okay," I whispered. "You’re safe." She didn’t respond. Her breathing was shallow, her entire body stiff. Something was wrong. Very wrong. I pulled back slightly to look at her face. Her pupils were dilated, her skin too pale. "Kayla," I murmured, brushing my thumb across her cheek. "Talk to me." She opened her mouth, but before she could speak, a howl ripped through the night. The pack alarm. Again! Shit. I snapped my head up, my instincts immediately on high alert. The howls multiplied, blending with distant shouts. My wolves were already gathering outside. We were under attack. For real this time. Earlier was just a warning from something that looked like Xavier.. but wasn't quite him. Kayla gasped, grabbing my wrist. "Adrian—" I cupped her face, forcing her to focus on

Kayla’s POV I slammed the bedroom door shut, twisting the lock with trembling fingers. My breath came in ragged gasps as I pressed my back against the door, my chest rising and falling in rapid, uneven bursts. What had I done? I had told Adrian I loved him. And worse—I had meant it. The words had slipped past my lips before I could stop them, before I could shove them back down into the deep, dark place where I kept all the things I couldn’t afford to feel. And then—like a coward—I had run as Adrian was forced to leave. But where could I run to? I belonged to him now. And that was the most terrifying part. I squeezed my eyes shut, my nails digging into the skin of my arms. I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t afford to need him. Not when I was changing. Not when I didn’t even know what I was anymore. The mark on my arm burned as if it could hear my thoughts, reminding me of what I was trying so desperately to deny. Lady Elizabeth’s words echoed in my head. "You bear their mark,

Adrian’s POVMy heart still pounded from my situation with Kayla, but I pushed the thought aside as I raced toward the border. Logan ran beside me, his jaw tight with frustration. The moment the border guards had sounded the alarm, I knew it couldn’t be anything good."Who the hell would be bold enough to get this close?" Logan muttered, keeping pace."I don't know," I said, my voice sharp. "But if they think they can just waltz into my territory, they're about to learn a painful lesson."The moment we neared the tree line, I caught sight of a figure standing at the edge of our land. My stomach twisted into a knot.Xavier.Or at least… I thought it was Xavier. The stance, the cocky smirk—it was all the same. But something was off. His face seemed… distorted. For a split second, his features blurred, like I was staring at a reflection in rippling water. My wolf bristled, sensing something unnatural."Adrian," Logan said warily, stepping up beside me.
