Selena.
“Six years of marriage and still not a single child from Selena.” My mother in law Brinny snapped at me in front of the entire council, “a true Luna should know that without bringing forth an heir, she has failed her pack and her husband.” The entire room fell silent because they knew not to say a word to aggravate her whenever she started this conversation. “But how can she have a child when Lucian is away most of the time?” Katherine, my sister in law and favorite human in the pack house, tried to defend me, but her mother shut her up almost immediately. “Maybe if she found a way to make him stay back like a real wife should, maybe he wouldn’t have left. Maybe if she tried to capture his heart rather than focusing on matters that should be handled by the Alpha, she would have given us an heir by now.” Whispers and murmurs broke out among the council members who were mostly family of my husband, Lucian. I could tell from the look on their faces that they were panicking but unable to voice out their objections directly on the matter because they knew that it would only make things worse. Lucian and I got married six years ago, regardless of the fact that we were not fated mates, I grew to love and care for him. I adjusted easily in Crescent Moon Pack and was glad to fill in for him while he went off to training for the position of Alpha King. Things wouldn’t have ended up like this if Lucian had not abandoned me here and created a life for himself at the training fields. It has been almost two years since I last saw my husband, even though the training camps were only opened once a year, he has spent almost all the months of the six years we’ve been married there. It was as if he didn’t want to come back home to me. Even when he did come home, he kept his distance and returned to the camp after a day or two. Brinny always cursed me for his son’s absence. No matter how hard I tried, she just didn’t like me. The task of ruling the pack also fell to me. I kept the pack members in line and even though the task was demanding and kept me up late at night, I performed my duties without complaining because a part of me believed one day Lucian would return back home to me and he would have a reason to believe I was meant to be his Luna even though we weren’t mates. “I would send a message for him to come home soon.” I muttered under my breath, but that wasn’t enough for her. She scoffed in response. “Right, like my son would listen to you. I never agreed on my son marrying you. The mate bond is a gift given by the Goddess, and your existence is merely a stain to it. Maybe that’s why you couldm't give my son an heir!” “But we cannot overlook how immensely Luna Selena has contributed to this pack,” one of the elders spoke, “what would we do without Luna Selena? What would become of us? She has kept our borders safe, and our pack members have not starved in a long time.” “It’s not her task to protect our borders. Hers is to bring forth children.” She seethed angrily. “You can not even keep a man. How would you manage a home.” “What use is a successful Luna without a child?” Brinny became more excited when she spoke. I saw her rush into me after the last word, trying to slap me. But the sting never came. Logan, Lucian’s beta, came in her way, stopping her actions. “Mind your behavior, Brinny. Selena is our Luna. And she deserves some respect here.” “Who are you to talk and defend her? Did you two hook up or something?” Brinny pulled back her arm, her eyes wandering between me and Logan. “Watch your position, Logan. Even if my son didn’t want Selena, she still belongs to him!” “Enough!” I tried to restrain my anger when Brinny spoke. I did that because she was Lucian’s mom, and I couldn’t deny the fact that Lucian and I were not fated mates. But I would never watch her insult another man.,, Logan was the only reason I had survived ruling this pack without Lucian’s help. At first, he was cold towards me and didn’t believe in my abilities when I first arrived, but he soon warmed up to me. He helped me make serious decisions and pointed out what I needed to take note of. I was immensely grateful to him for everything. I was planning to say more when her past harsh words rang out in my head, but the door suddenly swung open, and a guard walked in. “Alpha Lucian is back!” He called out with a hint of excitement in his tone, and Logan and I both jumped to our feet immediately. Logan and I shared a glance. I wasn’t sure I had heard the guard right, but the reaction of the faces of the elders seated around us showed they had heard it too. My excitement was palpable. I felt like a child that had not seen her father in years and was about to see him again. My heart skipped a beat as it leapt for joy. I had imagined our reunion a thousand times, the way I'd run into his arms, the way he'd hold me tight and never let me go. My heart beat increased as the door flung open. It was racing with anticipation, unlike anything I had ever felt before. My breath got stuck in my throat as soon as my eyes landed on him. He was standing in front of me, with a thin smile on his face... and a girl beside him. My brows furrowed when I noticed how tightly he held onto her hand and the way his shoulders flared protectively and in a possessive manner when he saw me staring at her. The silence in the hall was deafening as all eyes fell on them. “There is someone I would like you all to meet,” Lucian said, breaking the silence as he turned to stare down at her in a loving manner, a way he had never looked at me before, “the mother of my child.” My eyes widened in shock as I took in the sight of her swollen belly, a clear evidence of her pregnancy. The mother of my child? What did he mean by that? His words echoed over and over again in my head as I stared at her belly in astonishment. Every other sound suddenly faded into the background. It was as if I was underwater. My hearing was now muffled, and I was somehow unable to release the air that was now stuck in my chest. At the realization of what was going on, the excitement and joy I had felt just moments before turned to ashes inside of me. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked right out of me. How could he? How could he do this to me? The pain was like a knife twisting in my heart as a painful lump stretched across my throat. I felt like I was drowning and unable to find a lifeline to cling onto. The smile on his face, the girl by his side... it was all too much to bear. I felt like I was living in a nightmare, a nightmare from which I couldn't wake up.Selena“Thank the goddess, finally an heir for my son.” Brinny cried out excitedly as she rushed over to the girl beside Lucian without even trying to confirm who she was and how she got pregnant.“You’ve done well Son,” she carressed Lucian softly before she turned to the girl and held her stomach, “this child is the future of this pack so from now on, everyone must accord you and this child with the respect you deserve.”“A true Luna indeed, unlike some barren ones that sit with their head so high up in the cloud that they can no longer get pregnant again,” she shot back at me.I remained rooted to my spot, staring right at Lucian without moving. Every single, hurtful word the Luna said didn’t get past me, and when I tried to move, I staggered and almost fell flat on my face if Logan had not helped me up.“Lucian…” I whispered his name softly as Logan helped me back down on the throne. Every single eye was now on me, I could tell they were all expecting a reaction from me while Brin
Selena“Step aside.” Lucian barked angrily at Logan, but Logan simply refused to budge. It was surprising that he could stand up against Lucian like that when he was the beta.“So mother was right after all, you’ve been whoring around with him and everyone else while I was gone right?” He glared at me above Logan’s shoulder.“How could you even think of hurting an unborn child? How evil can you be Selena? How much hatred can you have in your heart to be able to do that? All that negative energy is the reason your womb is still blocked.” He added angrily and reached out to hit me but Logan shoved him backwards.“That’s your Luna Lucian. Think before you act.” Logan growled but Lucian simply ignored him.“I didn’t do it, I didn’t ev-even touch her. I was about to leave when she fell on her own, why would you even think that I would be able to do that?” I asked, unable to stop the tears that was still rolling down my cheeks. The woman that caused all this commotion was still sprawled out
Selena“I guess it is settled then, Luna Selena stays.” Logan said as soon as he was done counting the number of hands that was raised. Out of all the twenty-four men on the table, twenty-one voted for me to leave, and twenty-three voted for me to stay. Lucian had only lost by one vote. “This doesn’t change anything. She must leave this house immediately.” Brinny snarled at me as she slammed her palm on the table, but I wasn’t even bothered by her reaction.“Staying doesn’t change how I see you, Selena. It would only make it worse. I would never see you as my Luna, and I promise to make your life a living hell until you walk out on your own two feet.” Lucian threatened while the pregnant woman beside him that I had heard him refer to as Cindy clung onto his arm with a grin on her face.Seeing them like that in front of me, tore at my heart, it made me ache with pain, but I took a deep breath and masked my emotions.“I am not afraid of you, Lucian, and I do not care what you decide
SelenaHe gritted his teeth angrily and his fist was clenched so tightly by his side that it was obvious he was trying to hold himself back from hitting me.Regardless of how Lucian treated me, he knew better than to lay a finger on me. My pack was a like a backbone to his pack and if my father got upset and pulled back his support, things could change for the worse. No matter how hard he tried to pretend like that wasn’t a fact, he knew it deep down and acted accordingly. He stared at me in silence for a few seconds before he reached out to grab my neck but I was quick to step away from his reach.“How dare you!” He growled in anger as his brows furrowed, he was so angry that his eyes shifted from their original form to his wolf’s blue ones, “so just because I have been away for a while you’ve grown wings.”“This isn’t about growing wings Lucian, this is about respecting my boundaries as much as I respect yours.”I shot back with confidence.I had no idea where my confidence was comi
Selena.“It doesn’t matter who I am staying for Logan. What matters is the pack.” I stated as I rose to my feet, knowing fully well that his attention was still on me.It was awkward and might have been embarrassing for him, but this wasn’t the time for me to start talking about another relationship with someone else. Lucian had hurt me badly enough. My life and marriage with him had inflicted a wound that was still wide open and hurting me so badly that I could barely think of another man.Logan wasn’t bad at all, but him and I wasn’t going to work out, not with everything going on. He deserved someone better.“Selena I didn’t mean to…” he began, but when I noticed the direction he was hinting at again, I decided to quickly change the topic entirely.“The recent attacks,” I blurted out, and he paused, “they have been becoming a bit of a situation these days. What do you suggest we do about it?” I inquired, and he sighed heavily in defeat.“Are you sure you want to talk about stuff li
Chapter Seven.Selena.“He is back.” Logan announced as he strolled into my study late that night. The study once belonged to Lucian, but after his return, he had ordered for another to be redesigned to suit his taste, and that was done. Not wanting to request another study, I decided to move into his old one and continue my task as the Luna, unbothered about what Lucian was up to.At least, until Logan started bringing me the details of what was going on.“Once again, he defeated the enemy’s army and has recovered more territories than the battalion we sent there ever did.” He added, and I sighed heavily as I dropped the document in my hands.“His success is my success, Logan. we are in the same pack, and I do not…”“Enough with the pretense Selena, I know how you feel and we both know that soon enough, the pack members and council members would not be able to deny him the right to do as he wishes when he tries to kick you out.” Logan replied, a hint of anger in his voice.I knew he
Selena.“What are you doing?!” I yelled at the guards that were throwing out my things from the study as Logan rushed up to him, grabbed him by his collar, and shoved him away roughly.“Are you insane?! How dare you touch the Luna’s things without asking for permission?” He growled angrily, and the guard trembled in fear.“But… but…”“But what?” He snapped.“Alpha Lucian and Luna Cindy ordered me to do it.” The guard managed to speak because Logan’s grip on him was becoming a bit too tight.Luna Cindy? How was she being addressed as Luna Cindy? She was just his mistress, and I was still the Luna, so what was going on?Before I opened my mouth to speak, I noticed Lucian and Cindy step out of the study with their arms entwined and Cindy looked like she was having a difficult time because she was wincing in pain and groaning out loud.“Hang on, baby, we would soon be able to clear out the place.” Lucian said reassuringly as he tapped her hand gently.“Lucian, what’s going on? Why are my
Selena. “What is this?” I turned the envelope over in my hand, but there was nothing written on it to give me a clue of what was in it. “Why don’t you open it and find out.” Brinny replied with a devilish grin on her face. She looked like she was enjoying every single moment of my apprehension, and it made me even more scared of whatever was in the envelope. My hands trembled lightly as I tore open the envelope and pulled out the note written in it, as my eyes flew over the words written on it, my heart began to race and my chest heaved heavily. Logan placed a hand on my shoulder as he glanced down at the note in my hands, before he could read what was in it, the note slipped out of my hands and fluttered slowly to the ground. “Rather than holding on to a Luna’s position that is not yours anymore, you might want to return home to your father and take care of him.” Cindy mocked while sounding as if she was worried. “I wonder what it feels like. His only daughter is barren,
Logan’s POV.It was difficult letting her head back home alone, a part of me knew just how shaken up she was by the whole thing and letting her head back home on her own might make things worse for her. I tried to speak to her before she left, and the way she just kept nodding and the fake smile she forced on troubled me.Lucian, that bastard always found a way to hurt her, and until I was able to eradicate him from her life totally, then I would always be there to protect her from him.“Turn the car around.” I ordered the driver just as we headed down the road that would lead us to the neighbouring packs where my investigation was supposed to start. The plan was to find out as much as I could about the raid that Lucian had carried out and get back to Selena, but I could not bring myself to do that when she was feeling that way.The look on her face was something I didn’t like, and I knew this was not the time to be away from her.“Sir that would be heading back to the…”“Just head b
Selena’s POV.“I would ask around and see what I can find. You should head back just in case anything goes wrong.” Logan advised as he led me towards the car and signalled for the guard behind the wheel to take me home.“Avoid talking to him until I get back, just in case he tries something stupid.” He added, and I nodded even though I had no idea what he was talking about. I wasn’t focused on what he was saying. What I was more focused on was what had just happened.I needed to talk to Lucian and I appreciated the fact that Logan wanted to stay back and gather information from the pack members that had witnessed what had happened because everything still made no sense, I needed to talk to Lucian and there was nothing he was going to say that would stop me.“I would be back before you know it. Just go up to your room and rest. As soon as I get back, we will talk to Lucian together.” He added, and I simply smiled up at him as if I agreed with whatever he had just said.It was just to g
Selena’s POV.“What the fuck do you think you’re trying to achieve Selena?” Lucian growled at me, “turning Logan against me isn’t bad enough but you dare to challenge my authority before my Luna, elders and guards.”“You should have thought of that first before you tricked my father into signing away the pack to you and as if that wasn’t bad enough, you lied to him about me being pregnant for you and even went as far as poisoning him. You crossed a line Lucian and I am not going to let this slide.” I yelled back at him.He looked taken aback to hear me say that but he was quick to recover from the shock and acted like I had not just said something.“Do I look like I care about what happens to you and your father? He was dumb enough to believe your barren womb could ever conceive plus you and I both know that this is how it should be. I should be the Alpha of both packs and my territories should only expand. He was stupid to think he could outsmart with that useless rule of his.”It an
Selena. “Luna Selena, Luna Selena, Luna Selena,” someone called out to me as I stirred awake on the bed. It was my maid’s voice and at first, I thought she had just stopped by to check on me but when she kept shaking me and forcing me to wake up, I opened my eyes slowly only to find her staring right into my eyes. “What the hell…” I grumbled as I sat up on the bed. I was surprised to see her so early in my room. I didn’t have any appointments today except with Logan, so why was she here? “I don’t need to take a bath so early so you can go, I still want to get some sleep.” I said to her but she still didn’t leave, she kept calling out to me to wake up and it was when her voice became unbearable and making it really difficult for me to sleep before I sat up on the bed with a frustrated grunt. The moment my eyes rested on her, I noticed something was wrong because I had just noticed the expression on her face. It got me curious and worried at the same time. “What happened?” I as
Selena. The elders quickly called the people together as soon as they heard. I had somehow managed to gather enough food for the entire pack, and word about my achievement spread like wild fire. I knew Lucian would be hell-bent on embarrassing me in front of his pack members, so I was expecting the worse as I joined him downstairs. As soon as I stepped on stage beside Lucian and Cindy, the people clapped and cheered their appreciation for what I had done, and that did not sit well with Lucian and Cindy. They both looked pissed. So, as expected, Lucian found away to inch closer to me and whisper into my ears with a sinister tone, “I must admit, I didn’t think you would be able to pull this off, but to stoop this low to get the people to like you and make me jealous is just disgusting Selena. If you’re truly a Luna, you would act like one and not a pitiful omega that was picked up from the streets.” His voice carried just the right amount of contempt that he had for me. "If all
Selena. “If you really want me to do this then there is something I would like you to agree to,” I suddenly called out to him just as he was about to start ascending the stairs back into the mansion with Cindy, “if I can solve this problem and fill the reserve back up with food, Cindy would never get involved in the pack affairs again and you would always respect whatever decisions I make regarding the pack.” “What??” Lucian seemed taken aback to hear that. He turned around sharply to pin me with a glare, “this was an order from me, not something you can bet about.” “On the other hand, if I can’t do it, then I would agree to the divorce and step down from my position as Luna so that Cindy can step up to it.” I added, and I saw the look on Cindy’s face, I knew she would love to hear something like that. In a manipulative manner, she whispered something to Lucian, but he wasn’t listening. He was staring right at me, and before I could open my mouth to say anything, he beat me to
Selena. After the whole thing with Father and Cindy, I retired early to bed because I was so exhausted and before I knew what was going on, I was fast asleep but the sound of hurried footsteps outside my door woke me up and I rushed out of bed. It sounded like something serious was going on because I could hear people screaming so I hurriedly threw open my door and stepped out into the hallways just to see guards rushing up and down to help the maids that were bringing out huge jars of water. “What’s going on?” I grabbed one of the maids by the arm, and she looked up at me with panic, “what’s with all the commotion?” “There is a fire!” She screamed as she struggled to free herself from my grip and rush down with the others. My brows furrowed as I held on tightly to her, “Fire? Where? How? I thought there was a party going on and…” “At the reserves. It caught fire a while ago, and everyone is trying to stop the fire from spreading because the last batch of the food is hidden
Selena. “Three days! Three good days, Beta Liam, and we have found nothing. At this rate, we might never be able to find whoever did this to my father.” I said to Beta Liam as I paced the length of his study, anxiously bitting at my nails. “The council meeting was just like the others. The council members are worried, and the people are already spreading rumours that he might die soon. I am sincerely confused Selena, who would want to harm your father to this extent?” He sighed heavily as he eased into his seat. We have been like this for the past three day, desperately going through every single detail in hopes that we would find whoever it was that tried to hurt father but no matter how hard we tried or how many people we interrogated, we ended up with nothing. “Maybe we should go through the information about the people that visited him up until he got poisoned. We might be able to…” “It’s useless Selena, that was the first thing I did when I found out about what happened,
Selena. “The healer suspects it to be poison.” One of the elders on my father’s council said to me as we made our way inside. It has barely been up to five minutes since we arrived at the pack house. “What?!” I stopped dead in my tracks and stared straight into his eyes, “what do you mean by poison? Who would dare to pull off something like that?” “We are not sure yet, but your father’s beta is already working on it as we speak. For now, we suggest you leave things to us and focus on spending time with your father. He has missed you a lot.” The elder advised, and I sighed heavily because I knew he was right. It had indeed been a really long time since I saw him last, and I felt nervous about seeing him again. Katherine must have noticed it because she stepped forward and held my hand in hers, I smiled at her, and we made our way upstairs. The maid accompanying us stopped in front of his room and pulled Katherine aside, “The Alpha would like to see his daughter alone.” She s
